J.B. Bickerstaff | Cavs vs Knicks Post Game | 3.3.2024

Coach they make it really hard on the boards even without Julius Randle and those players Josh Hart being on the boards as much as he was what makes them difficult in that area effort that simple um you know Josh Hart is a winner and he’s willing to do whatever it takes

To win basketball games you know and uh you you got to give him a ton of credit you know to play the amount of minutes that he played um you know and go out and be as effective as he was um um you know he he’s a heck of a player but that

That’s what it came down to is you know too many plays um and it’s set that set the tone with the first play right they get an offensive rebound on the first possession um so you know we just we’ve got to be better and understand how

Important it is to us Sam Maro being as effective as he is every time he gets an opportunity with you guys how difficult is it for you guys to find time for him but how important is it for you to do so as well we we got to keep working at it

And you know again he’s proven that when his minutes comes um you know he helps us win basketball games so we know we can count on him uh we just got to keep trying to work him in Get Him minutes Jeff uh so you mentioned effort were you satisfied with your team’s effort

Tonight um you know I thought we played in spurts um I thought we had a good second quarter I thought we had a good fourth quarter effort wise um but you know again to come out of halftime and give up 36 points um you know to a team

That was down as many guys as they were down that’s disappointing um defensively you know we’ve got to be better than that um and what it came down to was a lot of one-on-one and holding your man up um and them attacking our paint and then creating for each other that

Happened in the first quarter and third quarter but um we’ve just got to be better anything else James from 92 Fame you guys seem to struggle with d dribble penetration and keeping them off the pain and and kicking out how do you guard against that and you know with them being under

Man how do you kind of force them to have to play D perfect toach I mean you got to stand your ground at some point and that’s what I think you know in those quarters we didn’t do a good enough job uh I just watched us you know

Backpedal as we were guarding guys oneon-one and allowing them get to the paint and when you allow them get to the paint now you know you got to protect the paint you’re in rotation they end up with you know open shots and you know they made their shots and guys you know

Had their opportunities to step up uh you know bonovich de venzo like those guys stepped up and made plays Miles McBride like they made plays when it mattered most and you know again Josh Hart is a winner he had a hell of a step back three in a corner but he seems to

Make those plays all the time so you know give those guys credit um but you know again we can’t pick and choose when we’re going to be at our best and you know we did it in the second quarter we did it in the fourth quarter uh but we

Got to play four quarters Cavs basketball do you feel like you guys might have lost a little focus in the first quarter when Jaylen went out I think so I think we let our guard down um you know we assumed um you know we prepared for a matchup one way and you

Know I think uh without him we thought you know that it was going to be a little bit easier um and let our guard down and again what they did is they stepped it up they had different guys contribute and make plays and you know you give NBA play players with talent

And opportunity late uh they’re going to bite you in the ass

Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff spoke with the media following a 107-98 loss against the New York Knicks on March 3, 2024 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

  1. Gotta be tougher and willing to take the fight. Last 10 games or so has been a disturbing trend of being down 4-9 the entire game. Can't find ways to play in front. Also been nights where opponent's role players hit big shots late.

  2. BOOOOOOOOO LOL 😅 PUMP YOU UP TO LET YOU DOWN FACTS OIC OIC CLEVELAND STYLE DON'T BE MAD WHEN YOUR DISSAPPOINTED AT THE END OF THE YEAR OIC FACTS I AM GLAD I MOVED YEARS AGO LOL 😂

  3. It's not too late to fire him. This game is a precursor to what a first round playoff series will look like against Knicks (loss), Sixers (loss), Pacers (loss) or Heat (definite loss). JB will be outcoached for sure, these teams coaches are elite. A better coach would figure out how to create a consistent offensive system, and hold players accoutable to running it. If something works 18 out of 20 times, you don't forget about it and go back to what didn't work. Garland is struggling because the leadership and strategy from the coach is not there… It's not too late to replace him…

  4. Been watching bball for 50 yrs soft teams that dont hustle and rebound dont win ships, team will be reconstructed next yr with new coaching staff

  5. Cavs are a good solid team not great don't overestimate there talent let's hope they get past first round

  6. I’ll give JB credit, he didn’t blame the officials per usual this time. Mark Jackson stage the last 2.5 years and needing a Steve Kerr 😢

  7. Niang and Dean Wade really should see less minutes. I wanna see Emoni Bates and Sam Merrill. Also gotta see Craig Porter Jr. Those guys are too talented to be warming up the bench. Get a grip JB.

  8. "Effort" is not an excuse. Do you mean we only don't give effort on the Knicks, but not other teams. That's why we can't beat THE Knicks? F**king BS.

  9. The Cavs struggles are all related to being soft up front. That's why teams get physical with them. Look how badly they got out-rebounded in Chicago. They're definitely gonna get JB fired. Trade Mobley next year

  10. Not full court pressure, never play a little zone, dont show different looks on defense when other team player is on fire.

  11. The best thing about that game…ex-Bucks head coach Coach Mike Budenholzer is good candidates for the Cavs.
Nevertheless, ` the Brooklyn Nets interest in securing his services. Altman should proactively explore possibilities, I'm see the same issues from the previous year.

  12. The Cavaliers' sole chance lies in TT restoring order to the rebounding game, as they were dominated once again. The team appears vulnerable without TT.
Additionally, I advocate for reducing the playing time of Niang, Strus, and DG, while increasing opportunities for CPJ and Merritt. Niang and Strus may be streaky shooters, but Okoro instills more confidence in me than both of them combined.

  13. J.B Bickerstaff is he related to Bernie Bickerstaff? The NY Knicks with all the injuries they play courage and Hart; not the kNicks of the 2000s these are the 90s they will be a tough out 4 anyone including Boston

  14. Mobley and Allen need to do a better job of being physical.

Jb continues to play Niang who takes awful shots on a nightly basis. Some shots even hit the side of the back board. He doesn’t defend and if he’s not hitting 3s… what does he offer.

Garland needs to be more aggressive.

The win streak and play before the all star break hid a lot of flaws but the team still has a lot of the same issues as last year

  15. How about some toughness for a change
How bout you don't get moved around like a punk and start fighting thru screens hold your ground in the key
    This team needs LEADERSHIP!!
