Pao Ben Caro is routinely doing in such a long time it does really feel like that a lot of things are just different with B Caro a lot of things are just just just things we haven’t seen from a magic player in a long time and
And it could be something as simple as his ability to get downhill you know Miss a shot and just have that look in his eyes like oh he’s gonna fight his way to the basket and score and having every faith that he’s going to do that
It could be something as simple as him turning around for fade away looking at the ref for the call and then realizing oh the shot went in or just the regular it that b Caro is sitting turnaround fadeaways and the Comfort at which he’s doing that look I’m not going to sit
Here and tell you that Sunday’s win over the Detroit Pistons 113 to 91 I is indicative of anything larger um the magic dominated this game the starters dominated this game and the Pistons are the Pistons they’re not no offense go listen to lock on pistons for their perspective on things I’m sure
It’s not pretty um they’re 9 and 51 they’ve got the worst record in the league uh this is a this is a team the magic should be and we’re going to talk about that in a minute and so the fact that Pao banero had 29 Points 10 for 16 shooting eight rebounds five
Assists that’s that’s not necessarily the important part today like the stats are great they’re they’re star Starline stats but what’s important is the consistency of it the fact that this game called for pao to play this way and it didn’t feel like it disrupted anything look we’re getting ready for
The playoffs we are getting ready for the postseason we’re getting ready for the games that matter and and we’re going to learn a lot more about Paulo in in those sevenish games then then those four to seven games then we’re going to learn about him right now um you know it the stuff’s
Important it’s building toward that postseason battle those postseason games this stuff matters and like all star players everything revolves around him you see that when and the way that the magic dumped the ball down to him the way that he eats up shot attempts 16 shot attempts as my cousin would note and
France wasn’t super involved he still had 10 this this was a low possession game by the way um everything starts with Palo banero and as we begin thinking about the playoffs it’s not just Paulo’s ability to step up his game to beat defenses that know he’s going to get the
Ball and get a lot of shots to know how to attack and read the double teams in the diff different coverages again Detroit’s not a good defensive team he was able to beat it pretty easily um Good Luck to Isaiah Stewart good luck to Simone fono they they had no chance if
Pal you know Paulo missed his first jumper and then proceeded to attack the basket the rest of the game and and and it just and then found his Groove and it didn’t matter that’s what stars do and we continually watch Paulo banero be a star with everything that he does
But what stands out now what feels important now is that the magic take their cues from him the Poise the calm the confidence starts with their star player and that’s always the case like your leader set the tong but what’s impressive is that it is
A 21y old doing it what is impressive is that the magic and Magic teammates are always urging this young player this young man to lead them to be their North Star to be their Guiding Light to be whatever analogy or metaphor you want him to be and that he
Produces is just a sign of the amount of trust the team has in him and that’s the real story of The Magic yes they’ve had a lot of players emerge and grow and develop they’ve had a lot of players make this huge leap that is big it’s a young team we
Expected them to get better but why the magic are game out of fourth in the East why the magic are in the thick of a playoff race that could very well see them miss you know Skip the play in entirely could see them have home court
In the play in could see them in a in a winnable playoff series is because of the growth in leadership and the growth in Poise of their best player the Pistons had to throw double teams at him and benero was unbothered by them benero was attacking them aggressively he was Finding teammates
And yeah he still makes mistakes he had four turnovers in this game it’s it’s there’s still a lot that he can get better at and there’s still a lot he will get better at but he’s also really really good right now and like I said
The magic have not had a player of his quality or his caliber in a very long time certainly since Dwight if we want to exclude centers just go Wings probably since Steve Francis maybe you count Vince Carter Vince was not this Steve defin steo was definitely not
This uh it’s really Tracy McGrady like that’s that’s again like I know I’ve if you’ve listened to the show a long time like everything we do with poo banero we compare him to the all-time greats in this this franchise and that’s the level that Ben Caro and this magic team are playing
At everything does revolve around your star around your star that that that is just fact you go as far as your star can take you and again not no one outside of Orlando and if you’re listening from outside of Orlando welcome this is this is the Palo vanan Caro show um no one
Outside of Orlando was talking about how good this dude is and yeah this was against the Pistons yeah this is not the opponent to draw conclusions on but B Caro still dominated them and even just his presence and his threat was enough to open space up for for everyone
Else the magic know their star will deliver for them and they trust their star to deliver for them just is he trusts them to deliver to and that’s the other lesson we can take from this game because really this whole homand because the magic continue to show the Poise and

Still think that is true but um oh actually no they don’t they have the third easiest schedule now that Detroit’s off the schedule Miami and Boston have the easiest schedules remaining Orlando though still a very manageable schedule and we expected that you know we still got two more games
Left in this seven game stretch of games against teams with losing records and so far the magic are four- one they have guaranteed a winning you know winning record on that stretch but we expect them to be five- two six and one in this stretch one of the Magic’s great
I won’t say superpowers but one of the things they have grown and shown us this year is they will take care of their business against weaker teams against the sub 500 teams and that is that’s not something to look past especially from a young team what the magic showed
Throughout this home stand they played Brooklyn Utah and Detroit is a level of maturity and poise that young teams like them typically do not show um this is a confident group they’re playing really well but they’ve never won at the highest levels before they’ve never won games consistently
Like they’re doing this all for the first time and so the impressive thing is that the magic are doing this that the magic are able to have a high turnover game against Utah and still come out on top still make the plays down the stretch to win that game it is
Impressive that a week after giving up a 10-point halftime lead and being in a close game that they did win by the way against Detroit last last week that Orlando came out with a nine-point lead at the half and put the hammer down scored the first eight points of the
Third quarter and essentially ended the game there it says something that despite again a lot of turnovers 22 turnovers in this game uh and letting their 27-point lead slip down to 13 that Orlando brought the starters back in burned off nine straight points and we
Back up 22 to put the game firmly Out Of Reach honestly what was impressive about Sunday’s win against the Pistons is that the magic were never bothered the magic were it never felt like the magic were going to lose that game yeah the turnovers were kind of high but they
Were destroying them in the paint they were stopping three-point shots they weren’t giving up a ton the thre they they were doing all the things they typically do to win games and the score did not quite reflect it and it was just like okay the magic will be fine they
Keep doing these things it’ll eventually pull away and that’s exactly what happened the magic are learning how to win and learning how to put these games away we talked about last week how the magic need to learn to go for the kill that these were the kind of games where
The magic had to put their foot down and dominate they had to they had to put these teams away and that’s what the magic are doing more and more and I know we got two more games and they’re on the road in this stretch and beating Charlotte beating
Washington are musts with how tight the standings are you can’t afford to lose to those teams at the stage of the season um they’re not going to be easy Charlotte’s playing a little bit better I know they’re on a four game losing streak Washington is Washington on the
Back toback not easy thing to play not an easy team to play um but these are the game but these are the games that young teams don’t put away these are the games where you can get caught playing with your food so to speak and these are the games where
Continually not that the magic are free from all those mistakes the magic are not getting burned on any of them continually the magic put these games away and to view Sunday’s game against Detroit as being as important and as necessary of your focus as a game against even Brooklyn a game where the
Magic also played really good defense that says a lot and there’s honestly a lot of trust within this group they’ve talked about it a lot and they talked about it a lot about a lot about it a lot Sunday they trust each other they trust that they
Will step it step up that that players will fill in as needed they trust every to get their job done and honestly like if you watch the Pistons it’s not that the Pistons are devoid are completely devoid of talent they’ve got talented players um Kate Cunningham did not have
A great game we’ll get to his box score here in a minute one of his probably his first Bad Games since the All-Star break but they have guys who play really well they have talented players the difference between Orlando and Detroit is Poise and attention to detail it’s being locked in and on
Target defensively because Orlando just cut them to death just we cutting behind the defense running along the Baseline just making easy interior passes for easy baskets that stuff the magic mostly did not give up um that stuff the magic are really good at stopping um they were able to make plays
And set a physical tone to put Detroit on their heels the the difference is just that level of execution and what the magic have established here what the magic have done over this last week at the Kia Center is that level of execution it is that ability to take what the defense is
Giving them and play that way and and succeed that way and not be bothered by the the runs that that they may give up or the mistakes that they might make but to stick to the game plan and still come out comfortably on top what the magic did
Here and and and you know again this this home stand was not full of great teams but to sweep it and sweep it convincingly these last three games and yeah the game against UT was close in in the last two minutes it qualified for the last two minute report you get what
I’m saying to sweep it like this is a sign of maturity and as we get ready for the playoffs and and there’s a lot more maturity to come as we get ready for the playoffs because that’s what we’re focused on this Poise this maturity is going to be the difference
For them because as as poised as they look now the team that they’re going to face in the playoffs because no every team that the magic could face in the playoffs save for maybe Indiana um has more experience than them they’re going to learn the next level
They have to go to but for now this magic team shows a lot of trust a lot of poise a lot of maturity that justifies their record but also um but also shows how much they have grown to we’ll go through the final box score talk about individual performances we’ll

Night first magic sweep the Detroit Pistons in a season series for the first time since 1999 that is the lockout shortened 1999 season when of course the magic won a split of the Atlantic division ended up the three seed and then we don’t talk and then the playoffs
Just didn’t happen it was it was really weird that the playoffs didn’t happen certainly the magic didn’t think the playoff happened that year second the win tonight moves the maner to 21-8 on their on the floor at the Kia Center or 21- S at the Kia Center 21
And8 at home because one of their games was ported out to Mexico City that guarantees the magic a winning home record for the first time since the 2020 season but that includes games in the bubble it is their first winning home record in an 82 Game season since 2019
Obviously the last two times imag made the playoffs um obviously there is more to accomplish in a 21 and8 home record is something fun to celebrate I know last year we really wanted to get that 21st win or I did the magic really didn’t in the end um getting but such a
Huge step and again the other fun note from tonight the third highest attended game in Kia Center history 19,4 59 it was a great crowd seeing a sellout like that for for a team like the Pistons that tells you people are really bought into this magic team I will say this
Throughout the entire week I know we got three games before we get there Kia Center needs to be playoff ready playoff atmosphere next Sunday against the Indiana Pacers is such a humongous game we’re gonna talk about those games um probably third on Thursday for Friday’s episode of lock down magic as the magic
Get ready to play the New York Knicks in the other big game of the week again magic got charlot on Tuesday Washington on Wednesday before we get to the Knicks before we get to the Pacers next week let’s run through the final box score though um fun fun fact Joe P benol said
After the game that Joe Engles said uh that he want that Joe Engles wanted poo to make sure everyone understood the starters bailed the bench out this game unlike previous games when the bench kind of bailed the starters out the starters bailed the bench out and again
Like numbers that I’m about to share with you say more about the Pistons and they do about the magic but again like the magic did the job like you know say what you want about beating bad teams you’re supposed to win these games you
Still got to do the job and you know you know just because we’re not like unfurling the banner or you know raising a banner to the rafters for beating the Pistons you still got to do it every win counts the same and the magic did the
Job so here are the numbers no magic starter had a plus minus of less than plus 29 the starters owned their minutes just completely destroyed Detroit completely decimated them anytime the match needed to push the lead out it was the starters that did the job Paulo banero 29 Points
10 for 16 shooting eight for n from the foul line eight rebounds five assists did have four turnovers just super aggressive all game just you know something got into him like he got got a little angry at times and got to the basket just willed his way to the basket
No one on Detroit was stopping him Isaiah Stewart’s not fast enough to deal with him Simone fonio is not strong enough to deal with him the magic really worked well to find mismatches and create mismatches wend Carter did a great job dumping the ball down to him
From the high post it was just point after point after point you know pal ban Carol has gotten so good at that turnaround Fade Away um it’s it’s money you just believe it’s going in every time because he’s just that reliable it’s just Ben Caro is such a reliable
Player now and it just feels like things are really getting started really getting started for him and like this is gonna be normal like we won’t have to pause and say like man what a star we have in poo vano we’re gonna we’re gonna be pass that here very very soon because
He’s he’s gotten so much better wend Carter had 19 points five for seven shooting seven for seven from the foul line eight rebounds three assists again a lot of fouls from Detroit that was a big factor in this game but Carter was really good just really aggressive finishing around the basket really
Strong finishing around the basket you know having to deal with Duren having to deal with Isaiah Stewart um that’s a big team from Detroit they do a great job on the glass but Carter was really really good around the basket he did a great job again just defensively just being
Big and challenging shots around the basket um had two blocks as well but just just an excellent excellent game from Wendel Carter again this is the game that really shows why wend Carter has value he had a couple threes he was able to work and pass from the high post
He worked around the basket just that versatility is why wend Carter is valuable and he had a really really I thought really really nice game fron voger relatively quiet 13 points Five for 10 shooting second most shots on the team by the way uh three for five from
The foul line eight rebounds um did two blocks did a great job getting the basket finishing around the rim like he he found his pockets to score it wasn’t a heavy usage game for him um the magic were just able to just Feast with Pao all night long and that’s all they
Needed to do you know fron missed his threes you know there there’s some places where you could have gotten some points but again just did exactly what the team needed to do like let’s let’s not pretend otherwise Detroit was real still really focused on him after what
He did to them a couple weeks ago at the beginning of February about a month ago now um so just a really solid game from fron a lot to be happy about there uh Jaylen Suggs had 11 points five for eight shooting five rebounds three assists for him Gary Harris had eight so
The Magic’s bench did starters did really well the bench among the Magic’s regular rotation bench players um no player on the magic bench had a plus minus a better than minus eight and a lot of that came with the Pistons cutting the 27-point lead down to 13 but even at halftime everyone was
Like minus two minus three like the bench was struggling a bit and again some of that is the P you know some of that is the magic had such a big lead that that bench doesn’t have a lot of creators and so they got loose with the
Ball they turned the ball over a lot um you know again starters had their fair share of turnovers Joe Engles had three turnovers Marquel fultz had two turnovers Co Anthony had two turnovers you know it was it was not a strong game you know if the magic are going to look
At the tape and be critical of something they were way too loose with the ball and and as we said with the two previous games against Pistons the Pistons give you such a wide margin for error because they’re not going to always take advantage of it um they’re going to
Struggle in the half court especially uh you know the m and the magic defense was really good when it could get set up um just nothing in the paint Detroit shot uh only scored 40 points 20 for 37 in the paint Orlando Orlando just did a good job just keeping Detroit from
Scoring easy baskets and getting back into this game but the start the bench did let the lead get down to 13 from 27 Detroit stuck with that bench with their bench group because the starters weren’t doing anything um and then Orlando just reasserted themselves they burned off
Nine straight points for up 22 and that that was that was that was the end of that game um Orlando shoots 59.7% from floor um coming off the bench uh let’s talk about Mark elel 16 points8 for eight from from the floor um just a really excellent game and I have to say
Like he played great against Utah as well the lifts team seems to be back like he seems to be shooting jumpers more normally now he’s getting off off the floor a little bit better you know the timing on a shot still is is right there I I really love the way that
Markel played um he was aggressive getting the basket creative finishing around the rim like he’s just so athletic around the rim um he played you know maybe turned the ball over a little bit you know maybe got lost a few times which he can do uh but just it it the
Last two games have looked like Marquel folz looking like Marquel fultz like that this is who Markel folz is um and so that is that is so encouraging especially going to playoffs now again no one’s gonna be worried about his three-point shooting and that that might ultimately be the downfall it might
Ultimately be the big problem but for now especially coming off the bench he looks really fresh and looks really good and and and looks like he’s moving around a lot better and that is that is a a really really really really really encouraging sign um Orlando shoots 59.7%
From Florida 7 for 23 from Beyond The Arc not a great three-point shooting game second straight bad three-point shooting game so maybe the three-point uh Buzz is is going down the 20 to 25 from the foul line so they got to the free throw line made their free throws
Um seven offensive rebounds they scored 68 points in the paint they just 34 for 44 in the paint they just did whatever they wanted in the paint they got downhill got to the basket made interior passes Detroit’s defense was swiss cheese the magic ate up and and and
That’s that’s quite simply what it was um Detroit’s L scoring by our guy Evan forier 17 points six for 13 shooting Simone fono had 15 Off the Bench again the Piston starters really struggled Kate cting him only nine points on four for 12 shooting big credit to Jaylen
Suggs and Gary Harris and again it’s a team effort they switch a lot France vogner got his turn they did a really good job forcing Kade into tough shots challenging his runs at the basket making him a passer he did have seven assists uh but I think six of them came in the
First half um the magic just shut him down and when you shut him down the Pistons just don’t have scores you know Duran had 11 Ivy had 10 on three for 11 shooting assar Thompson had eight on two for 10 shooting they just don’t have enough offensive Firepower to to manage
A game when their star struggles like that Orlando does like fron can step up Dell can step up Jaylen can step up when Pao struggles like they did last last week Detroit um but Detroit does have that you know if Kade if you cut Kade off this team just kind of Withers and
Dies and that’s what the magic did well this this game as much as it’s about their poison offense and their ability to find ways this game is about the Magic’s defense continuing to reassert itself we’ve seen that we’ve seen that happen here over the last three games even against Atlanta they were good
Defensively they weren’t good defensively against Detroit uh uh last week they had a good game against Atlanta I know I know they lost that game and lost it running away but Atlanta only scored 112 points for 100 possession a good defensive game for them um they demolished Brooklyn held
Brooklyn under 100 points they did a good job against Utah who was averaging 122 points per game after the All-Star break entering their game Thursday and then they hold the Detroit Pistons under 100 points again this is this defense is really starting to assert itself and
Yeah the opponent sets them up for that but you still got to do the job and it’s better know that you can do something then you can’t the magic can do this they are doing it and we’ll see how much it translates when we get to some tougher competition here in the next
