The 76ers without Joel Embiid are GOING NOWHERE! – Stephen A. Smith | NBA Countdown

Look The Hope remains in Philadelphia that they can get Joel embiid back before the end of the regular season and then what kind of condition is he in right uh how quickly can he be back to a dominant MVP level form he was the MVP in this league until he got injured and

Listen they’ve added buddy heeld at the trade deadline they picked up Kyle Lowry uh in the buyout market and this is a Philly team just one and a half games up from the play right now in fifth place in the East can they stay out of the

Playin uh their time and get in back and still be able to make a run in the East so let’s say that they do get Joel embiid back but realistically they’re not going to have much time if any at all before the playoffs start to sort of

Get him back into the mix with those pieces that wo just mentioned so realistically what can the 76ers do what’s their sealing in your mind this season well first of all understand this without Jo andb they’re going nowhere they’ll be home watching the postseason with you and I okay that’s just the

Reality of the situation they might get to play or whatever the case may be but they ain’t going to do much that’s that without him period with him I would like to remind the audience they’re one and four against the teams above them in the Eastern Conference this year and so it’s

Not like they can’t be beat even with Joel and beid on the court having said all of that I know that perk is at least before months ago may have disagreed with me when we had this discussion on first take but I’ll say this whenever embiid is available play because his his

History of injury I can’t trust that oh I’m going to sit you down for the rest of the season and you’ll be healthy for next season and the season after that and the season after that he’s been perpetually injured he’s come into the league injured miss

His first two season in the NBA because of injuries and it’s a plethora of them you can’t trust that he’ll ever be healthy so you take what you can get because he’s so great whenever he’s available play him and roll a dice you know what I I I can’t agree with that

And and I wouldn’t even think about bringing him back because the fact of the matter is they could be in the eighth spot or in the playin tournament and they could possibly face the Milwaukee Bucks or the Boston Celtics in the first round that does no justice for

Joel and B we’re talking about a 7 foot guy that’s 270 to 280 lbs like have a plan in place the plan could be rest this season go into the off season get healthy lose some weight come back next season and come back 100% healthy or

Close to it you know what I was sitting here tonight before the uh MRI results when perk said he he’s done sit him down and I was not persuaded but I was persuaded as we went along perks been right about embiid all season also in terms of the look ahead Stephen A I

Understand the desire to do that you’re right he’s hurt all the time how do you know but without him you have no chance yeah and because it’s zero chance just like you said they have no you’ve got to have some plan in place for how to proceed with embiid unless you see

Something that suggests to you when he comes back W that he is ready to go and really be the MVP we saw in November December January I I don’t know how you and this isn’t going to just be a team decision Joel ID is going to get to

Decide whether he feels like he can play and play at a high [Applause] Level

On NBA Countdown, Stephen A. Smith, Adrian Wojnarowski, Kendrick Perkins and Michael Wilbon join Malika Andrews to talk through Joel Embiid’s absence for the Philadelphia 76ers this season after missing his 11th-straight game.

  1. Im not risking embiid this year ,ill bring him back next season with ja morant in memphis and find out who i will keep on this team and who has to go .

  2. loose some weight . . .LOL .. . can we get rid of skinny Perk already. Dude parrots what he hears from others , can't come up with an original thought, let a lot original idea, and has NO basketball IQ.

  3. Even with embiid I don't like him ina 7 game series. He doesn't have a good playoff Game, body or speed and he gets exposed. I love when they talk talk talk about these boys and ignore that Boston Milwaukee New York Miami would clap them with Joel or not

  4. In his first year playing Joel Embiid played 31 games, but in those games he scored 20 ppg in 25 minutes. That's so wild to look back at

  5. He's not going to play this year to get better. Next year he's going to come back and get re-injured. This will happen until he eventually retires and puts Philly fans out of their misery. They will never win a chip until the owners decide to sell the team. The first year of the new teams existence, the team will end up winning a chip and hang Embids jersey in the rafters. Philadelphia fans will then turn their attention to football and hockey because they'll never win an NBA title.

  6. have any of you paid any attention of embid's playoff record..?? he was on the floor with Ben Simmons, when that junk happened.. his playoff record is pitiful

  7. Joel is a sub 50-game regular season player. He is not playing post season even 80% healthy if he plays more. Sixers can’t afford to play him sub 50-games. REALITY CHECK. FIND ANOTHER BEST PLAYER 😊

  8. Nah,. just traded Embiid and get as much picks. The guy couldn't stay healthy for a full 65 games. Apart from that he always disappear in the playoffs.
