What is the update on Scottie Barnes?

All right here’s our Raptor reporter Josh lenberg Josh nice win for the wraps that’s all well and good but the bigger news is it looks like they’re going to be without their young All-Star Scotty Barnes for an extended period what can you tell us about that yeah the recovery timeline is going

To depend ultimately on their plan for treatment which it sounds like is still TBD they haven’t ruled out surgery and if it does re require surgery that will almost certainly end his season and even if it doesn’t require surgery I would still be surprised to see him again this

Season the average recovery timeline for nonoperative fractures is still 3 to four weeks there’s six weeks left in the season so it’s not impossible that he’s back for the last two or so and the fact that it’s on his non- shooting hand is maybe a sign of optimism there but

Remember there’s not a whole lot at stake here this is the future of the franchise so it wouldn’t surprise me if they opt to play it safe especially considering this is a really important summer for his Development coming up here so maybe they prioritize going into

The off season with him at full health okay well and let’s talk about that you know you mentioned it you you got six weeks left in the season I think they’ve got about 20 games left 20 21 games left they’re still within Striking Distance Josh as you know of a playoff spot so

You know if Scotty is indeed out for the rest of the season does it change the way they approach that approach to the playoff well up until this point they’ve been prioritizing getting back into that playin race and getting Barns and some of their young guys some high leverage

Game experience towards the end of the season now they’re just three and a half games behind Atlanta for that t seed the Hawks are without Trey young also dealing with with a hand injury so again not impossible but on the other end of the standings they’re now three games

Ahead of me Memphis for the sixth worst record in the NBA and what would be a nearly 46% chance of keeping their top six protected pick so yeah it’s possible at some point here depending on how the next few weeks go that the Raptors could change course and maybe alter their

Priority and listen it probably wouldn’t take much manipulation on their part if they did decide to go for that pick because wins are going to be hard to come by for as long as Barnes is out of the lineup and maybe now yakob purle as well can’t play Charlotte every night

That’s if only you could if only you could uh Josh lenberg you’re the best and you look terrific without the tie I like that look you should keep going with it thanks Jay uh next time you’ll be able to see the Raptors on this network will be Saturday when they visit London

Ontario’s Shaden sharp and the Portland Trailblazers Portland the city where young people go to retire it begins Saturday at 9:30 p.m. eastern time

TSN’s Raptors reporter Josh Lewenberg joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss Scottie Barnes’ injury, what his timeline to return could look like, and what this means to this young Raptors squad for what direction they will go in.
