Today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel make every moment more right now new customers get $150 in bonus Bets with any winning $5 bet that’s 150 bucks if your bet wins visit fanduel.com lockon to get started let’s get into the mailbag question here I threw this out
We’ve had a couple of days of a break here so this has been really good to hear what you’re interested in learning about with this team what I can answer for you we got some great questions here so let’s jump into it right this one comes from tedra Covington at Covington
_ tedra T he says come playoff time who will get our final shot I don’t see anyone with the Gan on our roster sorry to say who do you believe will grow into that role will be important in the playoffs so you were right you know this
Team has struggled in the clutch this season they’ve struggled kind of in the clutch the past couple of years I’ll say this right even Kobe Bryant even Michael Jordan when you get into some of the data on like clutch statistics making shots all of those things the guy gets
Better as the game gets closer there isn’t a lot of stuff that actually proves that it’s a lot of just kind of feeling eye test that isn’t backed up by the numbers so there’s a bit of uh separation between those two things not that I’m saying I don’t think it exists
But when you go like that dude was clutch like H or did they just play more clutch games and have the opportunity to do some of that or how many did they miss that we just don’t talk about right there’s also that sort of thing we kind
Of you know look at the guys who make the shots and don’t realize maybe they missed just as many times right how many game winning shots did Michael Jordan Miss versus m same for Kobe and some of these other guys keep that in mind a little bit right we’ve also seen guys on
The Pelicans deliver clutch wins Zion earlier this year we’ve seen it with Brandon Ingram in years past so they’re capable of doing that but the postseason is different and you’re going to be defended differently and it’s ramped up a little bit so what does it look like
In a playoff series let’s say it’s just to win game one or even to win game seven you’re down two let’s not make it a three because that dramatically changes things right you’re down two points or you’re down one point doesn’t matter so either to tie and send it to
Overtime or to go and get the win if you’re head coach Willie Green who are you drawing the playup for let me know what you think in the comments Down Below on YouTube or on Twitter at nolee I think a lot of y’all are thinking I would say Zion Williamson here but
That’s not the case if it were a clutch shot you need in the playoffs it’s brain and Ingram and I’m not saying this because I don’t think Zion is clutch or that I think uh brain and Ingram is more clutch than him it has nothing to do
With that to be perfectly honest it’s really just we’ve seen how teams defend Zion Williamson and when they throw bodies at him it’s tough he’s not going through contact the way that he has in the past if it’s a final shot like this are they even going to give him a call
If there is contact I would say probably not given how the season has gone so you know that if you give Zion the ball if Zion gets the ball it’s at the top of the three-point line 7 seconds or or less and the clock is like ticking down
You know what he’s going to do right he’s going to attack the basket and you just wall him off and you kind of hope for the best and you know not that that’s a good strategy that he wouldn’t make it you know what’s happening and you can kind of account for that
Accordingly and force Zion to kick it out and you know who knows what happens there with Brandon Ingram being a multi-level scorer I think there’s just more options there to keep the defense off balance and to keep them guessing and hope that they make a mistake if
Brandon Ingram gets the ball at the top of the three-point line with 7 Seconds ticking down you know if he doesn’t see any room to drive does he take a three it’s assuming they’re not going to pass right and that’s not an opportunity here or would it be even if there’s a little
Bit of room puts the ball on the ground drives to the basket where he’s been very good this year where we want to see him doing more of right this season you saw it against the Indiana Pacers there that was probably the best version of him that we’ve seen kind of being
Aggressive getting to the rim gets you to the Line opens things up more and opens things up more as the game goes on too so knowing that he is shooting incredibly well at The Rim here right he is where’s the number here shooting 74.4% at The Rim that’s higher than any
Other point than his career so he’s attacking the basket at a high level he can do that and if teams are worried about him scoring at The Rim they take that away what’s he going to do then he’s going to have that mid-range open and I think that can work there right if
That’s what they’re going to give you for the final shot you need to put the ball in someone’s hands who are go who’s going to at least make that shot or you feel comfortable I should say taking and making that shot that’s not Zion Williamson right if they wall off the
Rim there we’re a little bit worried and it’s more about him playmaking for someone else so if I had said CJ McCullum I could say you start it with Zion and then he kicks it out to CJ and I don’t think that’s a horrible option
You might trust Herb in a situation on a kick out like this as well I don’t think they would have another big man out there on the court I think it would be Zion Trey herb bi and CJ McCullum would likely be the lineup that you would see
For a final shot type situation you know maybe her with how he’s shooting would be a good one too and he can inbound the ball for you as well but it’s bi who there’s a mid-range option if that’s what the defense is going to give you and like would be that you feel
Comfortable with that I don’t think that’s exactly the shot you’d like you’d like a shot at The Rim certainly a higher percentage shot you know Brandon Ingram from 3 to 10 feet is shooting 44.7% this season so you have an under 50% chance of him making that shot that
Would worry me a little bit right you know that’s not something that I would feel great about 10 to 16 feet he’s 51.8% so it’s slightly above Round Up called 52% slightly above that you know 16 feet to third uh threep Point range you don’t want that that’s
45.5% that’s probably one of the worst shots you could take but if that’s what the defense is going to give you you take that but you do that by creating space so it’s a more wide open shot than a contested mid-range shot or something along those lines you know CJ as a
Kickout option is good so is Herb Jones I think but again that’s not what we’re trying to look at here I would design a play for Brandon Ingram for him to probably isolate drive and try and attack the basket that way with some off ball move movement with options open for
Him as well and I would also make it look like you run a pick and roll with Zion to see if he can draw two Defenders right to see if you can create a little bit more space for him and get them sagging off so that you can get Brandon
Ingram very comfortably into one of the mid-range spots that he wants that’s the final shot that I would use what I would look for here and I think gives the Pelicans the best chance of winning a game assuming assuming they’re not going to let Z score at The Rim and they’re
Going to throw three bodies there so it forces something else and no that’s not exactly what I want to see so it would be brand inam that I give the ball to for the final shot of the game do you agree do you disagree let me know in the
Comments Down Below on YouTube so we’ve talked a lot about data points this season Gathering data to make moves this off seon got another question for you what’s the most important data point for this off season this kind of ties into the next two things that we’re going to

Free Fire TV channels app it’s also just on like YouTube too running 24/7 it’s awesome I keep it on in the background during the day so let’s keep getting to your questions here because y’all had some really great ones like I loved the clutch question there this one comes
From Brett atgo Ingram and he says front office has been Gathering data all year which data point do you think makes the most uh which data point do you think will be most impactful to their offseason decision-making process this is a great question as well I’ve talked
A lot about data and Gathering right a lot of y’all are probably like shut up nerd something along those lines but it’s important right and that’s how front offices operate they’re going to gather a lot of data then they kind of analyze that data try and make sense of
It and it informs on what your next steps are going to be it informs trades it informs the draft right the salary camps a big part of that too all of these things the Pelicans are in a unique position where it’s tough to evaluate this team and they haven’t had
Years of the data they’d like right there’s one playoff experience to show for this and Zion Williamson didn’t play in that and this is also going to tie into something that I’m going to talk about in the next segment when we talk about coaching growth Willie Green
Changes or lack thereof at times that he’s made this season this is really really important stay tuned for that in the next segment here so you could say it’s the position right like how’s yonas Val chunis looking the playoffs but it’s clear they’d like to go in a different
Direction than Jonas right like that was all the talk from them during the trade deadline the leadup to that they want to go in a different direction like that’s been the case for about a year now right and I truly do think that jonis funis very much could be a liability in the
Playoffs even if I said don’t trade him during the regular season he can get pick and rolled to death here and that could really impact this team in a negative way so I don’t think it’s that right like I think they’ve kind of made up their mind on that you know honestly
The most important data point for this offseason and subsequent offseasons is this one right it’s got to be the brain and Ingram and Zion Williamson pairing and how they do in the postseason when things are truly different that’s what’s going to chart the course for this
Franchise in the future so part of it is just how they play do they work it’s worked at times this year it’s been clunky at times this year right brand Ingram’s playing better right now than he has been at any point this season they’ve tried to go with Point Zion a
Little bit more that has looked good too Zion is kind of rounded into form but does it work in the postseason or do you have just two really good players that just don’t complement each other the starters haven’t been particularly great and look the first decision they’re
Going to make here is moving on from the center position before they break up the Brandon Ingram Zion Williams and pairing but that might not necessarily and bear with me for a second be the right move here part of that is because of contracts and the return on players in
Trades right Brandon Ingram is eligible for an extension he’s got one more year left on his deal and when you look at this in terms of the Contex let’s say he doesn’t sign an extension this offseason and goes into free agency where the Pelican can still offer him more money than another
Team you know but maybe he wants to kind of explore all of that right so let’s say he doesn’t sign an extension if he signs an extension usually the rule is they can’t trade him away for one year depending on the type of extension that
It is so that kind of makes this a moot point say he doesn’t sign an extension you know when you look at it in the context of trading away All-Star level players and he’s a borderline All-Star level player he’s only made one All-Star team you know it’s always better to do
It sooner rather than later look at what Utah got for proactively trading away Rudy gobear Donovan Mitchell in the same off season compared to more recent trades like Pascal SE yakum this year got you a couple picks but no players that were truly exciting OG anobi didn’t
Fetch nearly as much as he would have fetched for this team last for the Raptors last season right and look at the the um Atlanta Hawks and their inability to move to jonte Murray there were just no real good offers coming in Pelicans try to get in there and get
Them for cheap and Atlanta was like no that’s like not enough for this guy the offers like the longer you hold on to these guys the the value just starts to go down right and that’s not a good position to be in particularly in a small Market you’re not going to get a
Anthony davises return for Brandon Ingram one because Ingram isn’t as good as Anthony Davis but also just because of the contract stuff right like well if he’s only got one more year it could be a rental that drives the price down so if you go into next season with him on
The roster and then just realize like we got to trade this dude well it’s going to be tougher to do during the off season when he’s out of contract and if you do it at the trade deadline when there’s only 3 months left that a team
Has them for say 25 games right 30 games it would be maybe something along those lines your return is going to be poor and you end up just getting Pennies on the dollar for a really good player so if you go into this postseason and these two just don’t work Brandon Ingram and
Zion Williamson for whatever reason you at least know okay we got to do a decision now we’ve got to pick one of these guys and we’re going to build around and I’m not saying they should trade trade away Ingram they could easily trade away Zion and go we’re
Going to give Ingram an extension Zion’s got a bunch of years left on his deal that makes it a perfect time to trade him away particularly after a healthy season but that then charts the course you’d get a much more massive return on Zion for doing that now than you will at
Any other point in the future that means it’s better to act now compared to later so if you go in and these in the the team gets swept in four games they’re not even close in any of them because Zion and bi just don’t work go in a
Different direction and try and maximize your return on one of these players one of them whichever one we can debate that in the offseason right because things only get worse from here on out if you know they don’t work I think it’s better to make a decision
And go down that road than it would be to let’s try and fix the center position which will help which will help but that’s not necessarily going to win you a playoff series if your two star players aren’t clicking and aren’t able to make it work in a postseason
Environment yes Jared Allen on this team would make them better in the postseason than yonas valunas but it doesn’t mean you’re going to win a series if Zion and Brian inam just can’t coexist and the spacing isn’t there and it’s all mucked up and neither can score that’s going to
Be a problem so it’s better to make that decision sooner rather than later the playoffs will tell us this I think we’ll get a much better idea in the postseason seeing how they do and being able to get some more data points to kind of evaluate all of that right that’s why I
Think making the postseason is imperative for this team getting bounced out in the playing tournament says well we don’t get to see him in a postseason environment that might just have been a fluke it might not be indicative of what they’re capable of doing because in a
One game sample anything can happen but over a seven game series four game series you at least get a little bit more consistency it’s why I really liked the Indiana Pacers games being back to back right we can kind of compare apples to apples in that look at how they
Played in the first game versus how they played in the second game and you can see the changes and why those things happen really easily and that allows us to understand this team more about what they need to do so getting four Gam games even if they’re not great well you
You understand that you can’t necessarily be like well it was a one game thing whatever right okay it was four games and it didn’t work we have a better idea or it was four games and it really worked if they sweep a team let’s say that’s really really important to
This franchise because they haven’t gotten any of that before so the biggest data point to me is the Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson pering and nothing else because it then charts should in theory chart the course for your franchise going forward but to do that you need to get into the postseason that
Ties to coaching in a way that I’ve talked about on the show before but I want to talk about again that’s coming up here next in today’s episode of Locked on Pelicans right now though I’m excited to tell you about fanduels because you can get buckets with your first bet on

Friday the number one Pelicans podcast breaking down everything you want to know about this team today we are answering your questions a mailbag episode we had some really great ones sent in we might be using more of these a lot of y’all were like what’s the the favorite opponent for the Pelicans in
The first round we can’t pick the Sacramento Kings we’ll get into that as we get a little bit closer to the playoffs because I think that’s an interesting question too and I kind of pose that to y’all on Friday’s show but I want to answer a question here in a
Moment about coaching and growth because Willie Green has been the center of a lot of discussion this season and I think it’s worth pointing something out and it ties to what we just talked about in the last segment so I think this is super important for your second listen
Today though go check out locked on Saints host Ross Jackson making all sense of everything black and gold but also marshan Latimore trade rumors what would the return be is that a move that the Saints should do Ross Jackson’s breaking down everything you want to know over the locked on Saints podcast
Okay this one comes from pels and Saints fan great at Saints pels one very simple goes how or this person goes how much do you think growth plays a role in coaching I hear people screaming for Wily’s head but I feel like as with players sometimes they need time and
Patience might be practical I agree with that statement I agree very much with that statement growth as much as we’d like it to be linear with players where it’s just okay you were here this year next year you’re this next year you’re this basically a straight line shooting
Up doesn’t always work that way right look at a guy like Kobe white and how many years it took him to kind of figure it out same for Tyrese Maxi and some of these other players sometimes it can be a little bit up and down and then they
Take off when something clicks or the right situation arises I think the same thing is with coaches it’s not always just linear they are constantly trying to improve in some years it doesn’t necessarily work in some years it does one thing I will say that if you want to
Look at Willie Green and what’s going on with this team right they’ve won more games every single year in his tenure right like that is if you’re looking for linear growth right like that’s it the first year he was here in New Orleans he had a winning percentage of
43.9% they were five games under 500 they were 36 and 46 That season the next year last year they were 42 and 20 that’s a winning percentage of 51.2% right that’s essentially like a 8% jump in winning percentage that’s great they were one game above 500 at 42 and
40 this year right now they have a winning percentage of 59% they’re almost winning 60% of their games right that right there is a jump of another 8% so from his first season to his second second season here he’s jumping about 15 16% in terms of winning percentage
They’re five and a half games right now above 500 there’s a lot of growth there right winning games is ultimately what you are judged upon it’s a results oriented business so I think there is some for Willie Green is he perfect no because there could there be more
Absolutely is this team reaching their full potential even though they’re 11 games above 500 not at all that is both a good and bad thing means there’s room to grow you want that I don’t see room to grow on a team like the Kings but also not Reaching Your Potential is
Disappointing annoying and not something that you want right and that’s where I think a lot of the frustration with Willie Green comes in we’re seeing a lot of some of the same mistakes trending to defensively with some of the lineups right not playing some of the younger
Guys that we think could help in Jordan Hawkins where’s Matt Ryan if you need a little bit more offense why are you relying on guys like Naji Marshall and all of those things I agree with all of those points points but it is also a fine balance of
Trying to develop guys solve problems while still winning games and I devoted a whole show to this I believe a week or two ago if you’re in every day or let me know what day it was CU I can’t even remember the ultimate goal here is to
Get into the postseason we just talked about in the last segment how getting both Zion and Brandon Ingram into the postseason I think is the most important thing that we can get from the team this year to evaluate for this off season in subsequent Seasons you can’t do that unless you get
Into the postseason in the first place right now the Pelicans are the fifth seed when I’m recording this show that’s good that means you’re solidly in the postseason and not going through the play in tournament right that gives us an opportunity to evaluate what we want this team to
Evaluate you can’t do that if you’re not in there if he makes tweaks and plays a guy like Jordan Hawkins Matt Ryan and others there’s no guarantee that you’re going to keep winning and it might cost you and maybe you don’t get into the postseason season so while yes good job
Playing those guys if it doesn’t accomplish your ultimate goal here which I think is just getting into the postseason it’s not doing you a whole lot of good for all the faults that Willie Green has and there are some this team is 11 games above 500 what they’re doing is working right
Now this Pelicans team has the 12th best offense the seventh best defense they have the sixth best net rating that rating is important for trying to evaluate how far a team can go in the postseason six post is good it’s not the number you want to see it but it’s good
Four plus 4.6 is a solid number so there might be changes that he knows he can make or would like to try and the front office probably knows this too but if you’re winning games why mess with what’s working when you look at this team and in terms of losing streaks and
Things like that they had that five-game losing streak at the start of the year right they were four- one then they went on a five-game losing streak they only only have one other losing streak of three or more games and it’s just three games and that happened in um the end of
January you lost to thunder you lost to Milwaukee and you lost to Boston right like and they didn’t look particularly great in some of those games they came back against Boston a little bit had a win had had a big lead against Boston and blew it away but the fact is they
Have two losing streaks this season of three or more games and one of them is a three-game losing streak other than that it’s like do they even have they have one two game they have two two game losing streaks I think and that’s it right like that’s pretty impressive to
Me so doing this the way you’ve been going with no other changes should get you into the postseason there you can tweak things up big time and make more changes in a playoff series that you really want to see that you think will work but right now maybe don’t mess with success so
Much so I don’t think it’s so much that Willie Green isn’t growing as a coach or making some of the changes that we want I think he knows there are changes to be made I told you that quote from the first quarter of the second quarter in
Between that in that first Indiana game where he was talking about yeah it wasn’t that our defense was bad and gave up 40 plus points it was that our offense was bad and that killed our defense that to me is very telling on the mindset because I’ve been screaming
That what feels like all season long I think he knows a lot of what needs to be changed but let’s not go on a three- game losing streak a four- game losing streak a game losing three because you need to make changes and give them time
Out there but you’re running out of time to do some of that there’s just 21 games to go and while yes you’re fifth in the Western Conference and that’s good I love this we want them to stay there you don’t have that much margin for error and I think that’s worth mentioning here
Right they’re a game up on the Sacramento Kings for six they’re just a game up on the Phoenix Suns also for seventh right they’re only two games up on the Dallas Mavericks for eighth they’re in theory just three and a half games up on the Golden State Warriors and the Lakers for
9 and 10 three games is a lot with 21 left to go but if you lose three straight games you can get to that spot if you lose five straight games you could be there I don’t want to mess with that right like I don’t want to mess
With that at all just get into the postseason do your best and then we’ll figure it out this offseason and go into next season with even higher expectations because we have what we need so I don’t think you’re seeing a lack of growth from Willie Green here I just think you’re seeing them
Accomplishing what they want to accomplish so don’t rock that boat right now rocket in the playoffs I don’t have a problem with that really change things up there totally cool with that right now just win games Win games get into the postseason to give yourself a position uh to be in position to
Evaluate what you need to evaluate do you agree do you disagree do you just think Willie Green’s a bad head coach let me know in the comments down below all right game tonight Toronto Raptors we’ll recap it into marrow’s episode of lock on Pelicans maybe live maybe not

Jake, stop it! You starting friction that the Pel's do not need. Like LBJ said, it does not matter as long as it is the right play. Pel's have no Kobe's or MJ's to asked those questions. BI just had one good game in the last 12!
Jones last shot
Would trust BI to make clutch FT’s before Z. Oddly enough I trust Herb to make clutch FT’s before literally anyone else though
BI he have plenty of game winners y'all forget.
It should be decided by who is having the better game & who has the better defensive matchup. CJ should be on that list of options too.
But, the real truth is until Zion can shoot 78% of above from the FT, BI or CJ take that last shot.
The Pels cannot have a liability on the FT line down by 1 with 0:00.8 seconds on the clock.
Zion is an amazing creator & scorer, but he needs to develop a consistent jump shot & be more consistent on FT before he is the Pels closer.
Seeing that zion can shoot from anywhere outside the key it has to be BI that takes the last shot

POINT GUARD!!! POINT GUARD!!! POINT GUARD!!!
It will make BI and Zion even more effective. Ingram is spread too thin and Williamson was at his best when he had a PG (Lonzo Ball) setting the table for him. Point Zion is a gimmick that will only work consistently against bottom feeders (if at all).
B.I. easily Zion can't get a whistle nor has a middy
BI is the easy answer as he has the more versatile offensive game..I'm glad bot are Pels .. but with Zion a team could just pack the paint on a last-second play
Zion is a dog…. BI has not been as of late…. Z is the guy unless BI is hot…

How bout that 3 BI hit against OKC in the play in game? He was fouled & it should have went to overtime
