There are a lot of tongue in cheek comments on this Jazz Instagram post about drafting Caitlin Clark, but here’s a fun fact…

The Jazz are the only NBA franchise to have ever successfully* drafted a woman.

In 1977, the then New Orleans Jazz drafted college legend and future hall-of-famer Lusia Harris in the 7th round (136th pick overall). Lusia was not interested and declined to try out and it was later revealed that she was pregnant at the time and therefore physically unable to attend training camp. She did go on to play professionally for a short time in the now-defunct Women’s Professional Basketball League.

Lusia passed away just a couple of years ago in January 2022.

*The Golden State Warriors attempted to draft Denise Long in 1969, but the NBA commissioner disallowed the pick.

I mean I could see someone inviting her to camp for some good publicity. I’d be all for that. Using a draft pick? Nope.

    Step 1: Draft Caitlin Clark

Step 2: Start her right away, get absolutely *wrecked* on the guardline

Step 3: Make counter-accusations of sexism and backwards thinking when accused of tanking.

Our guards are a sieve defensively already. Clark could be an even less athletic Kyle Korver for us I suppose /s
