Are the Suns the NBA’s most DISAPPOINTING team? 😦 JJ Redick blames injuries & depth | First Take

There’s a huge showdown in the association tonight between Katie’s Suns and the defending Champion Denver Nuggets Phoenix has lost four of their last six games currently on a two game losing streak and are only a half game out of being in the playin tournament during this first season together their

Big three of Beal Booker and KD have only played 23 out of possible 61 games Stephen A Shannon and JJ here Shannon I’m going to start with you on this one have the Suns been the most disappointing team so far in the NBA for me they have and I understand

Like when ktie got there last year he gets Nick and then he and Booker really didn’t have an opportunity to play together and then they had so much anticipation with Bradley Bill coming over but for whatever reason each guy takes a turn getting injury Bradley Bill started he was Nick during the season

Book has been in and out of the lineup the only thing that’s kind of been consistent is KD but for me they’ve been very very disappointed given the expectations that of what was placed on them so for me I’m going say it’s the Suns the disappointing in me J Shannon

And JJ for a different reason number one 21 turnovers the other night against OKC on Sunday I believe third biggest jump from last season and this season in terms of turnovers committed not just that Bradley Bill dein Booker KD can’t get on the court together 23 of 61 games

They played with one another just 38% of their games okay and 15 of their final 22 games are against the top eight teams in the NBA not to mention I even bring up their fourth quarter Wes and how they struggle in the fourth quarter and so I

Look at it from that standpoint and I got reasons to be concerned about them again offensively they can explode at any moment if and and beat anybody just watching them this year JJ you don’t get any impression whatsoever that they’re going to make a run you see them falling

Before you see them ascending that’s how I view them you know you guys both bring up great points I think the disappointing part to me is that we haven’t seen enough of them all healthy and together Durant’s missed seven games Booker’s missed 11 games Beal has missed 29 games Shannon your point about

Expectations is a fair point I I I would say this coming into this season we talked a lot about how there were 10 really good basketball teams in the Western Conference so given the amount of injuries they they’ve had the fact that they’re sitting in sixth place to

Me that’s not a disappointing thing if you look at this data and again I I hate I hate Sometimes using stats but sometimes you have to uh if you look at the data there have been a bunch of teams that have had fivan lineups play 250 minutes or more together only five

Of those lineups have outscored opponents by 10 or more points per 100 possessions Phoenix is one of those lineups their starting five is one of those lineups when they go small with Durant and Eric Gordon and Grayson Allen and Bradley Beal and Deva Booker they outscore opponents by 19 points per 100%

When they’ve been on the court together they’ve been a damn good BAS basketball team so the disappointing part is the injuries it’s not necessarily in the performance of The Big Three when they’ve been together and I still think I’ll say this we knew this coming into the season this is the problem with

Building super teams you are not going to have the depth to withstand one of your main guys getting hurt especially in this conference so again relative to expectations I’m not disappointed given the injuries even though they’ve only played 23 games together they’re still only five games over 500 so if you tell me

They only played 23 games together and let’s say they’re 17- six or they’re 18 and five then I was like oh man if they really to get it together but are we like going to jump up and down like when they get together because it’s still

Going to take some time and what we thought was going to be able to be built in training camp or in the summer it hadn’t materialized and so I I think they should be disappointed considering you got Devin Booker who’s an Allstar you got Kevin Durant who’s an Allstar what I look like [Applause] [Applause] bra

On First Take, Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharpe and JJ Redick debate the Phoenix Suns’ ceiling after falling to the Houston Rockets the Oklahoma City Thunder in back-to-back nights.

  1. KD did this to himself. He decided to leave GS for the nets with Kyrie???? That was the DUMBEST move thinking Kyrie is anywhere close to Steph

  2. KD is a great player but that man cannot operate when teams get physical and throw a double his way. Physicality bothers him and he gets knocked off his spots such as below the elbows where his middy is lethal or he makes horrible decisions and commits turnovers. In GS, the movement of Curry/Thompson along with Greens IQ allowed him to opearate where it was nearly impossible to double him or body him. Since then he’s done nothing. I know some of y’all bring up BK vs MIL where he was indeed stellar. But if you recall, MIL mostly played him straight up with Holiday, Middleton, and Tucker, which was silly, and it almost cost them a chip in MIL.

  3. These topics are getting old we hear it once a week. Suns most disappointing, Lakers are they the a threat in the west, Warriors primed to turn it on the playoffs are near, Clippers are the biggest threat to the Nuggets and will come out of the west. They never talk about OKC, Twolves, or give the Nuggets credit for doing what they have done.

  4. ESPN and their suns/durant hate is absolutely ridiculous. How are the suns more disappointing than lets say…. the lakers, ESPNs only team they actually cover completely. The lakers core have been together at least 2 more season than PHXs and the Lakers are currently just as awful and inconsistent coming off being in the WCF last year, but yea the SUNS are the most disappointing… this shits laughable.

  5. Maybe stop overhyping "super teams" when their 3 best players are all 100% interchangeable midrange shooters?

If you want to be dominant you need 2 stars who complement each other, they can't be nearly identical players or some other team can exploit their weaknesses.

  6. The problem with first take is that Shannon and Stephen A clearly don't watch %99 of the things they discuss whether it's nfl or nba. They just read a stat without any context and get louder and louder about defending it.

  7. I only feel bad for the Suns fans seeing how their team is still without a title, but I don't feel so bad for the Suns players. After all, KD got his 1st two NBA rings much too easily, Bradley Beal's recent injury history + huge contract should've been a red flag for the Suns management prior to them acquiring him, and I'm ok with Devin Booker as long as he's not being arrogant and trash-talking like he was vs. the Mavs in the 2022 playoffs which lead to him and his team getting humbled by the Mavs during the 2nd round of the playoffs.

  8. suns are gonna be fucked for years to come theyre gonna have to trade devin booker and rebuild after this shitstorm. this is what you get for trying to build a big 3 in this era instead of building through the draft.

  9. I saw the Suns being underwhelming from a mile away. Never mind the fact that Beal (and lowkey Booker this season too) is often injured, even when healthy, the Suns don't have a real point guard to help the big 3 mesh offensively – they can all score but none of them are high-level ball-handlers/playmakers which shows a lot in turnovers and stagnant offense especially down the stretch.

That's just the offensive side of things – defensively, their POA defense SUCKS

  10. Lmfao this dude really had a sit down interview with his agent during the middle of the season talking nonsense. Suns are a joke. KD is just like melo minus the rings

  11. Should've never traded Chris Paul. Give it one more run with a whole season and they would've won the chip. He was the table center and was more available than Beal.

  12. The overhype for the Suns to start the season when you have 3 players who can't stay healthy. The question will be asked if only they could of have stayed healthy for a consistent amount of time.

  13. They Talk about the Lakers everyday, Lakers got 2 top 75 players of all time some people say LeBron still top 5 or 10 lol, they Literally traded half the roster Last season and There at 10th Spot 😆 BUT Phoenix SUNS ARE THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!🤣

  14. Its wild how the media and fanbase talk about KD. No one ever had standards this high for Kobe after he tore his achilles. The fact we get to see KD average 28 on 50-40-90 at 35 years old after all the injuries he has had is a blessing that people are taking for granted. Everyone is so quick to say he can't lead but that just simply isn't true. Bro doesn't want to be a player, coach, and GM. He just wants to hoop

  15. with the softest move and easiest back-back rings, the basketball Gods are taking the compensation now

  16. Of course JJ blames injuries and bad luck.

He never holds players accountable for anything, ever.

He's the biggest player ball sucker on TV nowadays.

  17. I don't know why anyone is disappointed. Disappointment comes from expectations. This is the same amount of injuries that all 3 guys have had for the last 5 years. They aren't all going to be healthy consistently. These guys aren't LeBron; they're humans largely over 30 with injury histories

  18. What about Lebron and steph? Currently, cause Kevin Durant has a better team than both of them.

  19. crazy to think that as good of a player KD is, he would have zero titles if he didn't join the overpowered Warriors. We'd be talking about him being the best to never win and how his career was a failure relative to how good he is. Says a lot about KD and you'd have to take that into consideration when comparing him to other greats.

  20. They need a floor general and veteran leader like a Mike Conley. Lest people forget, before CP3 went to the Suns, Booker was perennially a 20-win team. KD is plug and play but doesnt direct and coordinate on the floor. They should have picked up Tyus Jones or Mike Conley instead of getting Beal. They'd have more depth as well.

  21. They failing because KD is playing second fiddle to a player that’s never been better than him. KD shoots 18-19-20 times a game and has 30 almost every night. While booker be shooting 25-30 times a game mostly mid range jumpers all game. Can’t win a ship like that

  22. So the Suns are descending at the 6th seed but the Lakers are on a tear at the 9th seed the same seed they was at Christmas 😂😂 the problem is Beal dude looks for every excuse to not play they can explode at any moment they are on cruise control that is it

  23. Healthy Kd and Booker can beat any team still and i am not even a suns fan.
Wouldn't want to face them in a 7 game series

  24. This is what happens when part of your big 3 and salary is tied up by half man-half a season Bradley Beal. He can play, but barely plays for the last several seasons.

  25. Coming from a Suns Fan, once we made the KD trade we messed this team up. Not to say KD isn’t a great player but he’s 1 dude and you had a “Team”, now you just have 3 dudes that can’t stay healthy and play one on one on every position. Teams win championships plain and simple

  26. Denver has one main star, and a very skilled group around him, that includes a good bench. That's how you win a title. Look at the team with too many mouths to feed. It's injury after injury with little back up, and players so used to handing off the ball to the stars, that they freeze up in vital moments. It sells tickets but destroys your future, and you have zero left to show for it, except the if's. Let the stars play and carry a team alone, with good players around them, or lose with an exciting team that flouders because they need rhythm to operate. It' the rhythm that brings this team to a level around what the Nets were. It ain't KDs fault, except he demands going to a ready Championship contender. He could lead a team to a title, he's that darn good, but not on some all-star team. Look at how bad the Olympics went. We barely beat teams we should have clobbered. Look how bad Dame looked playing with guys like KD on that team. It's telling and you can make excuses all you want, but it's clear, this doesn't in today's NBA. They had a far better chance for a title before they blew it up. They should have built the bench instead, and became solid.
