[Finger] I say this without an ounce of exaggeration or hyperbole: I talk to people about the Spurs every day. And of all those people, there is one who is, by far, the most forward-thinking and relentlessly patient when it comes to the plan. It’s the 20-year-old kid. And it’s not close.

The 20 year old kid has been living the plan for years. It’s his whole life.

It’s crazy how despite Wemby being a physical anomaly with the skills and talent to match, it’s his mind and personality that a lot of people close to the Spurs and his career are amazed by.

  3. Saw the clip this is referencing and we are doing far, far, far too much talking about Wemby putting pressure on the FO to improve the team *in his rookie season*.

  4. No shit, he’s got the most time to be patient with. I’d be hella surprised if Devonte Graham, for example, was the most patient when he’s approaching 30 and seeing his career circling the drain.

  5. AgadorFartacus

Dominick Barlow? Blake Wesley? Jeremy Sochan?

  6. LeJalenJohnsonMVP

Being a rookie with hopefully a long career ahead of him, it makes sense that he’s being patient, right?

Vets might be more impatient if they’re nearing retirement and haven’t accomplished what they want to yet, but it’s not like Wemby has to rush.

Dude just sounds like an ultimate glazer here

  7. Probably worth noting this is in response to ESPN pushing the narrative that the spurs need to build a competing team around Victor right now or they’re going to start putting photoshops of him in Knicks and Lakers jerseys. This isn’t some random 11am glazing lol

  8. NegotiationNatural98

He’s a rookie, no way hes demanding shit rn

I say this without an ounce of exaggeration or hyperbole: I talk to people about the Panthers every day. And of all those people, there is one who is, by far, the most forward-thinking and relentlessly patient when it comes to team dinners. It’s Kelvin Benjamin. And it’s not close.

It’s actually gross what the media is already starting to do.

Wemby is a rookie in an extremely well-run organization. He’s already leading let’s go spurs chants after games and is completely bought in, there’s nowhere else he wants to be. The media need to leave San Antonio the fuck alone.

  11. jumboponcho

Wembys is similar to Lebron in that they both were expecting this since they were teenagers. Sure he hates losing, but he knew it was another part of the journey being a #1 pick

  12. Aladdins_Camel

The media wants Wemby out of San Antonio. Just leave him be

  13. JurgenFlippers

The clip on ESPN is such a joke.

Ya I’m sure Wemby will put pressure on the FO to bring in winning talent. As all top tier players do.

But, you can just so clearly tell the angle ESPN is showing is: “Well if they are losing still in 1.5 years what does this mean for the Lakers or Warriors?!?!?!?”. Danny Green was tryna downplay it the entire clip but the other 3 were just being such shitters lol. Reminds me the Giannis conversation from 4 years ago only somehow even dumber.

Isn’t Ramona Shelburne the mouthpiece for Jeanie Buss? Not surprised she’s trying to drive this narrative

  15. RandorMan12

This is honestly the best case scenario for Wemby, let him adjust to the NBA fully before you load up crazy minutes on his body in some hopes of “competing”. I think building him a competitive roster right now would not only be difficult, but it’d probably be a pretty bad idea if you’re talking about his long-term health as a player.

  16. Titronnica

Wemby has shown himself to be mature beyond his years already, and wants to set himself up for success.

Rushing a rebuild, however frustrating, is not going to give him results, and it’s obvious to him, as well as anyone with an attention span.

This “rushing rebuild” is a forced narrative. The Spurs may test the market, inquire about trades to do due diligence, but they aren’t going to sell the whole farm right off the bat. There’s no reason to.

  17. kingofplasticbeach

Wemby genuinely has the attitude and ability to change his franchise forever.

Couldn’t happen to a better franchise either.

Never shied away from international talent, play the right way and have a great fan base even if it’s a small market.

  18. RoscoeSantangelo

Muad’Dib will lead them to paradise 🙌

  19. qpwoeor1235

You mean he is not going to demand a trade to the lakers or Knicks? What am i going to do with all these photoshopped pics in a different jersey

  20. Hiitsmichael

As it is written. Only lisan-al-gib would be so humble in losing!

  21. Wemby has been in the league for less than a year. I’m sure he doesn’t like losing, but I am sure he is more patient now then if he were on a similar team when he is 27+.

Lets use Durant as a example. He made comments that were anti-super team when he was younger. He signed a deal without the player opt out. And look what happened since? Multiple short term deals with opt outs. The superist super team ever.

  22. ContributionOld2338

Yeah, I just wish they had a good point guard to help him develop… Freddy would have been perfect but I don’t think anyone could match that bag he got from the rockets

  23. SquirtDoctor23

I don’t think there any pressure until at least next year. We need this years lotto pick/s.

Wemby is a really smart kid. I’m sure he’s sat down with pop and the fo and talked about this.

Team building in the nba is a complicated process to navigate. I’m sure the spurs know what they’re dealing with and have a plan.

  24. EchoLooper

ESPN basketball “analysts” have been pushing the false narrative that Wemby HAS to win right now and that the Spurs could lose him. Yes he wants to win but he knows it’s a process. ESPN is trash.

  25. Thunderhorse74

It is in the media’s best interest for Wemby to be front and center as soon as possible, not going on vacation when the playoffs start. Every move the Spurs could potentially make is another excuse to talk about Victor, how the new addition impacts him, the team, their fit, etc. They are projecting.

They have an obvious agenda to push this narrative. It coincides with the view of many fans, Spurs fans included, who are thirsty for a win-now shift and don’t have time to watch draft picks be made and developed.

Further, player movement is in the media’s interest. Whether it getting Victor out of San Antonio or getting additional stars to join him there, gives them something to talk about endlessly and lots of fans tune in for that, hanging on every rumor and detail of such moves.

  26. MikeyBastard1

But some people in our sub want to blow everything up and go all in on Trae Young immediately. Iorfeiting prime draft assets and hindering our cap space just to be annual first/second round exits. They are saying this on the INTERNET. They can’t be wrong.

  27. ShichikaYasuri18

Which one … Sochan? Wesley? Branham? Barlow? I think they have to be talking about Dominick Barlow here.

  28. rabidantidentyte

I’m so glad this kid landed in San Antonio. Best organization in basketball, and you know he’s gonna put on some weight down San Antonio.

  29. CradleRockStyle

I mean, it makes sense that the person with the most time left in his career would be most willing to wait and build, right?

  30. The clip this is in reference to is so annoying. They said the same shit about Zion when he was drafted and basically ran with the narrative that he should leave for New York. It took a bit but we built a solid team around Z. Luckily they haven’t mentioned wemby around other teams but this stuff takes time. Spurs are building and wemby is already improving. I’m also sure they’ll have a better time of attracting free agents now and Pop is locked up long term.

  31. Sure_Station9370

This is the most exaggerated bullshit. People trying to win imaginary arguments out here. Generational big man on the Spurs has been both the fan and media dream since before the kid got drafted. He’s right where he belongs as we all know…

  32. thebiggestgamer

Luckily the spurs and Pop have never given a single fuck about what the bullshit media has to say.

  33. They want him out of San Antonio so badly. They think he’s running out of patients and he hasn’t even finished his first year? They act like building a permanent contender is so easy.

Would he rather wait and build a dynasty around him or rush and be a middle of the pack playoff team with no hopes of ever winning? Those are probably the options.

  34. Repostbot3784

All these laker fans need to fuck off with tryng to make us trade for trae

  35. This is why I believe the NBA influenced the draft to get Wemby to the Spurs. With how good this guy is and how planned out his career has been up to now, there’s no way either the NBA or Wemby would have let someone like Charlotte or Detroit get him.
