ESPN reacts Mavericks loss to Pacers 137-120 despite Luka Doncic putting up a 39-Pts Triple Double

Point triple double for Luca it is just a disappointment for Dallas welcome to the postgame show Dana Larsson along with Brian dearis in this tough stretch Brian just got even tougher and they are very focused on one side of the ball right now that has got to get things

Turned around yeah even been playing in two of the last three games the top two teams that have ever had offens efficiency in the history of the NBA in Boston and Indiana you give up 137 to1 and 138 to the together this team since the All-Star break has given up under

120 points to an opponent once that was Phoenix in the very first game out of the break since then it has been tough defensively and when you have a game where Luca and Kyrie scor 62 points combined you have four players in double figures you had a third score in PJ

Washington scored 20 you shot 48% overall you played well in the paint you got fast break points it’s the defensive side of the ball that’s going to cause the issue if you’re giving up these kind of points it doesn’t matter what you’re doing offensively you’re just not going

To win ball games so where do we start to focus on the issues on that side of the ball you look here at uh Indiana and they came in uh obviously we all know their highest scoring team in the NBA but they were struggling just 103 points

A game in those last two well under their averages across the board unfortunately they got right tonight and where is it that you focus your attention on what needs to change what needs to happen for the Mavericks to get back on track defensively well they’ve got two ways they’re playing they’re

Playing with with bigs Gafford and Lively and they’re playing kind of what I call a smaller lineup with maxi and PJ Washington Maxi at the five when they’re playing Maxi they can switch everything the problem is that gives up the rim protection so then you have the layup

Line and you have a rebounding issue there when you’re playing with The Bigs then that big has to switch out on the pick and roll between halberton and Turner and then that’s giving you problems because that big has got to guard in space he’s getting blown by and now there’s nobody underneath otherwise

Sometimes when he rotates back to get back to the rim the rotation of the other player is supposed to pick up the guy up at the three-point line isn’t happening so it’s a pick your poisoner getting laate on their rotations so they they’ve just got to tighten it up and

The perimeter defense you know sometimes is lacking putting a lot of pressure on those BS at The Rim as well well they they talked about this this film session this really intense and detailed film session after practice yesterday and to then go to put that work to test against

A team as good offensively as this very difficult Challenge and the Mavericks unfortunately could not step it up and they were only down four at half they were in this although it was trading shot for shot and that was the concern that if the Mavericks offense faltered

At any point uh Indiana would run away with it and that is basically what they did in that third quarter especially as Tyrese halberton who had been sputtering offensively found his shot again yeah you knew he was going to find his he gets 19 points well under his

Average but he was going to make the shots when he needed to and really stepped up there in the in the third quarter really kind of when this as you saw when this game was put away able to hit a couple of three-pointers actually

Three of them he was 0 of I believe 14 going into that stretch in the last couple of games uh getting his shot and then listen you have to pay attention to because that Turner H role that really made things hard and when you focus a

Lot on that then it was the people like Shephard and McConnell and SE yakum who are able to get their shots as well offensively um the problem is when when that third or quarter and things start getting away and you’re letting them have the points off turnovers 9 to zero

You’re letting them get the fast break points you’re letting them score in the half court then as we talked about in pregame of what’s happened over here over the last few games since the All-Star break then you’re pressing offensively you’re bringing the ball out of the basket you’re having to go and

Make a contested shot or Force something get a turnover not get an optimal look it doesn’t go you’re putting up one quick three you’re going back the other way in transition giving up a bucket and that next thing you know you’re down 14 points and you’ve got a team playing

With so much Freedom so much confidence so much flow and from top to bottom uh the Pacers were doing that that every shot it felt like uh that they put up was going down and you this guy is really skilled a really young talented player and then a veteran like McConnell

Who’s so smart uh knows how to find those little crevices and find guys take advantage of some you know sloppy passes we saw that happening as well Shepherds had his two highest scoring games of his career in the two games against Dallas 69 points for this bench the bench does

Leave the NBA in scoring imagine that they had a season High 78 in one game that the 69 wasn’t even their most of a season but it was certainly the most uh to put an end any Maverick’s threat here today yeah if you want to look at Stats

That really uh tell the story of this game that’s it right there a 6932 Advantage from the bench and a lot of times when we talk bench points it’s a little misleading because it’s not like all five players on the bench are playing at one time against the the

Second unit from the other team it’s how those role players fit with the Stars that they’re playing with and it’s what’s interesting in IND in the first game last week they actually played a lot of their bench minutes without seak halberton or Turner in the game in these

Bench minutes you saw a lot of it was with just cakam in the game so it was in a large case their bench mainly making those moves and in the case of the Mavericks uh 16 from Gafford who basically played starter minutes because Lively was in effective tonight outside

Of that you had nobody scoring over six points well and Gafford was a real bright spot and we will talk about his energy that he brought in this one we’ll also talk about the historic run that Luca donic is on right now despite the fact our base is under attack

I’m ready to fight for a better future an enemy has deated an enemy has defeated yeah what’s an enemy always an enemy en an ally has defeated people be the you have defeated an enemy everyone has a weakness enr trust is we Can come on I’m ready to fight for a better future has been Defeated executed an ally has been defeated I’ve got eyes and ears everywhere your you have been defeated J sh me surrender to me you fragile Soul me dominating you have defeated an enemy nothing nothing can hold me Down but you have been defeated be back surrender to me you fragile Soul an ally has been defeated El our base is under attack legendary enemy Ultimate an enemy has been defeated well shut down a legendary you’ll remember me when I’m done with you

  1. First quarter, Luka went off to the bench too early and replaced with THJ and Maxi as center. Then everything went south. Again, called time out in third quarter and insert THJ again then everything fell into pieces. THJ can’t shoot and can’t defend. Kidd’s line up is so obvious and so predictable. This coach needs to go ASAP!
