You uh the basketball that Victor wi Bama has been playing is absolutely incredible now I personally think Victor with miyama is pulling away with the Rookie of the Year race he’s kind of creating that separation 60 games into the season only a quarter of the Season left it’s time to start to

Create that separation if you can and I think he’s doing that um mean as you know I’m not really one that’s really big on one-on-one matchups uh but sometimes they do matter based on when they are in the season and there was just a one-on-one matchup between Chad hren and Victor

Wiama and Victor wiama handled that uh he hand handled that pretty handedly and some would say he was sending us making a statement and sending a statement around the league and to voters um as you know that’s probably one of those ones that matter a little more with

Where we are in the season with the Rookie of the Year race quite frankly um by all means I I think Victor is pulling away uh his last 20 games he’s still averaging 29 minutes per game 23 points 10.4 rebounds 4 and a half assists uh almost two Steals and four

Blocks on 49% from the field 40 from three and 83 from the line he’s currently second in odds to win defensive player of the year although I can’t quite agree with that because they have the 24th best defense in the league now that’s where you kind of get into

Like his team team is not that good they’re young and blah blah blah but what he’s doing is incredible but you just can’t move the line like that like you’re not allowed to just because he’s Young and the team is bad a guy on the 24th best defense in the league can win

Defensive player of the year I don’t agree with that that’s moving in line too far and if you’re moving in line that far on Defensive Player of the Year like Rookie of the Year yes I I’m not worried about cck homr team being first in the west and the Spurs

Being 14th or 15th whatever they are um I don’t put much into that because your rookie like to come in and say oh this rookie is gonna win a bunch of games especially a team that get the number one pick probably means that team’s not very good that shouldn’t decide the Rookie of

The Year and I don’t and I don’t think it will but defensive player of the year is a different thing uh your team that does require your team to have a great defense and they just don’t um with you know like I said with being he’s uh whatever their record is that in

24th best defense that just doesn’t work um but you know Wy is 12th in the league and Steals and first in blocks and those are great numbers and as he continue on in his career and that team gets better I don’t think those numbers are going

Anywhere I don’t think Wim is going to block less shots um I don’t think wimy is going to get less steals with his length and so he’ll have these numbers and he’ll have opportunity to win defensive player of the years I personally don’t think that is this year

Um even if Rudy Gober wasn’t having the season that he’s having and their team having the season that they’re having I still don’t think you can give that award to somebody who’s on 24th best defense in the league um if you are doing that but then you got to move the needle back

For Jason tatato it can’t be oh man they they gotta win a championship before Jason tat can win MVP you got to move that needle back because clearly we’re just moving the needle whenever we may whenever we feel like we can if you’re going to give Victor when Bama the the

Defensive player of the year war however I think he’s definitely running away with the Rookie of the Year award if I’m being quite honest I want to see him run away with the Rookie of the Year award no disrespect to ch hren I think CH

Hongren is going to be a star in this league but I just have an issue with second year guys even if they missed the whole first year win a rookie of the year get in on the action with the draftking sports book an official sports betting partner of the NBA new customers

Who deposit $5 or more can get a no sweat bet up to $1,000 back in bonus bets how cool of a deal is that all you have to do is download Lo the draftking Sportsbook app now takes 90 seconds and use the code Colin C L I N this is the best deal

You’re going to find new customers it’s a no sweat bet up to ,000 if your first bet loses how cool is that only at draftking Sportsbook code is Colin the crown is yours because when you train with an NBA team when you live an NBA life when you learn NBA defensive

Schemes when you’re practicing with an NBA team you’re traveling with an NBA team you’re doing all of these things that NBA players do for an entire year that makes a difference makes a difference in your body makes a difference in your mind makes a difference how this how you see the game

It makes a difference and so I just can’t agree uh with second year guys winning Rookie of the Year um I would like to see Victor wiama win win it uh we had the same situation with Ben Simmons actually won it if I’m not mistaken um coming around his second

Year which didn’t quite feel that great and then we also had the situation with Joel embid that I think he was actually three years in and he was up in the race against Malcolm Brogden didn’t ultimately play enough games and still came in second place Malcolm brogon end up taking it

Away but it just don’t feel right because again I know the benefits of living an NBA life whether you’re getting in the game I didn’t play a ton my rookie year coming into my second year even the little minutes I did play but more importantly the life that I was living

And training that I was getting makes a difference and so I just can’t agree um and I think that’s a rule that been needed to uh should have been changed uh from the NBA rookies should be in line for rookie out of year and that’s just my opin opinion I’ll leave that there

But it don’t look like we’re going to have that issue because the way Victor wiama is playing he’s making the decision easy for everybody so Chad being in first Victor being in 14th does not decide that award the play of those players decide that award and Victor is making it very clear

I deserve that award that’s going to be a wrap for this episode of the Draymond Green Show make sure you all tap in this we got a interview coming your way don’t forget to check the Twitter of the volume check my personal Twitter for the giveaways so just tweet us your

  1. If DPOY award is for the DPOY and not the DTeamOY, it is for Wemby. Else, it is 100% pure BS !

  2. Worst defense in the league without wemby. Top 5 defense in the league when he's on the court. That's fact. He IS the ONLY player to transform his team THAT MUCH on defense.
That's way higher that any other defender, what's the point to give DPOY to a good defender when the team is still good in defense when he's not on the court ? That means he doesn't impact the game that much

  3. What matters for DPOY is defensive impact and the one that has the biggest impact this season is far and away Wemby.

Had he played 38 min his team would be much higher in the defensive team ratings.

  4. Its called Defensive *PLAYER* of the Year for a reason. If they make a defensive team of the year award then Minnesota will win, but for now Wemby is just too good to not give the award.

  5. defensive PLAYER of the year. THE BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER. What does team have to do with the award. I dont get it, ive heard thie same thing metioned multiple times

  6. Agree 100% with his 2nd and 3rd year “Rookie” argument. Doesn’t matter if you don’t play the first year, the year still happened lol. People are hilarious.

  7. i think the DPOY should be to the best defensive PLAYER, not the best defensive team, what i mean by that is that the biggest difference in defensive rating for a team when a player is on or off the floor is the spurs, they go from 24th best defense to 8th when wemby is on the floor. one guy having this much impact is crazy. thats why i really think we should consuder him for the DPOY, but i will not be mad if rudy gobert wins it.

  8. Draymond, you’re smarter than this.
He’s not going to win DPOY due to his team but no one is moving the needle. When he’s on the floor the spurs have the 8th best defense, when he’s off the floor they’re dead last by a wide margin. That’s the reason he’s getting consideration.

  9. If the fate of the entire universe was gambled on one single basketball play. If I was selecting the defensive team. Wemby would be my first pick.

  10. Move the needle. Finally give it to the best players instead of trying to insert team dynamics into it. Because they use it both ways, as a credit to a player on a good team and as a liability when it's between 2 players on 2 good teams (he's only slightly… because better team). Wemby deserves minimum 3rd team all defensive. I'd never thought I'd see someone that could challenge Mt. Mark Eaton numbers.

  11. Is it not defensive player of the year? Not defensive team of the year? I thought the award was based on what player plays the best defense and has the most impact on defense. Wemby single handily makes the spurs defense rank number 8 simply by having him on the court. Just my thoughts idk.

  12. You'll probably never see this comment, but here's my question. Let's assume Wemby keeps his current standings and averages 5 blocks and 2 steals per game until the end of this season… wouldn't he deserve DPOY even with his team bad defensive record ?

I understand DPOY is related to your team's success but at some point we should also not forget it is an individual award. Wemby is having historic numbers defensively. If he finishes the year with 4+ blocks per game and 2 steals I think he would deserve it regarless of the team record.

  13. New media is terrible because it becomes an echo chamber… everyone getting told what they want to hear and nobody challenging each other or asking the tough questions.

  14. Wemby is definitely defensive player of the year. Pretty obvious via the eye test and the numbers support it. I haven’t seen this kind of presence since Ben Wallace. It’s funny how some of these NBA player podcasts want to be different than mainstream media, but then buy into the same narratives. “Gotta be on winning team”. “Gotta have top ranked defense”. It’s just more of the same.
