Straight wins baby if you don’t mind me saying like it’s like Phoebe on Friends you got that raspy voice it’s pretty sexy we got late night V early in the morning it’s fantastic um yeah we are going to talk all about the the Toronto Raptors winning over the Indiana Pacers in this

Game we will talk about darkar rakovich cooking up some fun stuff in the lab we got The Good The Bad and The coming up later on there’s a little tease uh but let’s dive into I think my big takeaway from this game big V which

Is that the team now seems to be after all of the turmoil and the uncertainty and the trades that we liked and didn’t like the end result is a roster that makes sense around Scotty Barnes and ultimately that is the key thing here for this team setting Scotty Barnes up

In a position to succeed last night of course 21 points 12 boards 12 assists his fourth triple double of the Season uh franchise record most in a season yeah I almost got there five blocks a couple of block threes pretty ridiculous stuff from Scotty Barnes in this one on

A night where he actually didn’t shoot all that well eight of 18 0 of three from Deep eight of 15 on two he’ll take that all day um but overall I thought this game was just a really great example of how this roster is now suited to help Scotty Barnes become the version

Of Scotty Barnes it seems like most people both in Toronto and Beyond think he can be and in particular it’s the little three-man combos in the two different lineups that he’s heavily featured the starting lineup the Emanuel quickly yaka purle Scotty Barnes Trio they run all sorts of actions with those

Three guys involved of late and they are getting good stuff out of it every single time it seems and then you go to the bench lineups you have Grady dick we’ll talk about Grady dick holy God that dude is on fire Kelly oin his beautiful passing his sort of change of

Pace element from yaka purle both of those guys work beautifully off of Scotty Barnes in his ample skill set and the result is a g a team that can play really sound offensive basketball whenever Scotty Barnes is on the floor those other guys also make it so you can

Survive when he’s not on the the floor too they did that very well last night uh overall thoughts on the way this roster is fitting Scotty Barnes because I was just blown away by some of the stuff they were running last night to great effect yes against the Pacers

Defense but you can only play those in front of you and the process for the offense has looked really really beautiful coming out of the All-Star break yeah I think things are starting to crystallize for the individual guys in terms of annoying their roles and what brings out uh the best in Scotty

What brings out the best in the team we’ve talked about you know Emanuel quickly needing to be more aggressive we have seen that coming out of the break where he gets even a sliver of daylight that shot is going up and that’s exactly what we want um and you look at yaka

Purle the way he fits it with Scotty with his ability to see the floor make passes uh finish at The Rim unfortunate injury hopefully he’s okay uh we’ll we’ll see how that goes you look at Gary Trent Jr uh the way he’s sort of come on

And really uh hit his stride and then RJ Barrett you know you kind of need uh that guy we talk about Quickly’s aggressiveness we’ve needed RJ Barrett uh to sort of be like hey at some point someone’s got to take the Reigns here and he is a guy who will consistently do

That and he will Barrel his way to the rim and uh he’s been finishing great as a raptor he’s uh creating looks for his teammates and then probably you know the thing that stands out is when you see the Scotty bench lineup now compared to

What it was at the start of the season and you’ve got Kelly and oai and uh Bruce uh and Grady dick and the way those guys complement each other you’ve got oai who gives you um a bit of a power game can knock down an open three

Uh makes Smart Cuts to the basket has that chemistry with Kelly linic already built in then you look at Grady all the movement shooting that he provides and all the smart plays that he makes um Bruce not not a strong night for him I I I think it’s hilarious that he’s pretty

Much the only one that comes into uh this Pacers matchup saying hey it’s me versus SE yakum tonight and then uh and then yeah with Scotty I think it works so perfectly between him and Kelly because again pretty much since he’s joined this team we’ve been saying get this a spacing big

Get this team you know get him someone like that get Pascal someone like that and now you see how they’re both kind of thriving in having that um and and I think Kelly’s ability to see the floor um also helped Scotty because when you know those little moments where it’s

Like okay we’re you know starting to get stuck in mud a little bit here I can kind of throw to Kelly for a reset or I and I can cut myself and that keeps the action flowing so uh there’s a lot to like right now no doubt man and you know

Kind of further to my point you know you go through the roster of guys who are playing right now outside of maybe Bruce Brown who they’ve yet to figure out the fit with alongside Scotty um I think everybody does something that is complimentary to what Scotty does or

Doesn’t do right like we talked about purle right the you know the ability to have that roll Gravity the the passing from the elbows the ability to leverage Scotty Barnes as a guy who can kind of barar his way to the rim and catch those

Passes from Yak uh you know I think on defense we saw last night those two were just like a killer tandem at The Rim just shutting everything down that the Pacers were getting there they C met each other you talked about Kelly Grady dick coming in and just like ghost

Screening for Scotty Barnes to death and all of the beautiful stuff coming out of that because already teams are horrified of Grady dick he’s shooting 56% from the field 50% from three since the start of February averaging over 11 a game game and you can see the Scouting Report is

Already out on him oh God you got to track this guy when he’s screening cuz he’s going to pop and they’re going to be wide open looks there and that Scotty Grady chemistry is so tantalizing as far as what that can be like we’re seeing the infant stages of it right now

They’re that’s going to mature they’re going to add so much more to that but even last night there was the play in the second half where Scotty or Grady goh screens for Scotty he kind of Pops quickly and then instantly slips to the rim you have that beautiful contorting

On the lob from Scotty first half you have a play where Grady go screens for Scotty he pops out and on in that play kind of moves into a screen from Kelly o linck two Defenders go with Grady dick because they’re horrified of his shooting Kelly slips into the middle

Easy dunk for him it’s just really really beautiful to watch complimentary skill sets and then you go to like quickly and Barrett you know Scotty right now he’s not someone who’s going to go average 30 a game right you need someone who can kind of just sort of say

Okay it’s time for me to go and score and the way quickly has been shot out of a cannon in these last few games the way RJ has just been this wonderful play finisher that helps augment the lack of high-end you know super duper Star scoring punch that Scotty brings and is

Maybe not the most natural thing to him you know you talked about aaji his cutting his extra defense it’s all really really coming together that pass that Barnes made to aaji in the fourth quarter out of like a triple team crosscourt to the weak side in the

Corner for aaji right in the shooters pocket for three it’s beautiful we love it it’s just been super fun to watch and yes we’re getting excited about a 22 and 36 team going on a three-game winning streak but it does tangibly look different than it has for much of this

Takeaway from this game I was asking you before yeah what what do you want to talk about where you at and you said what about a little Darko talk and I said let’s do it that sounds great take the floor what are your darker rakovich takeaways coming out of this game

Against the Pacers and I think probably the last few games as the team has looked a little bit more cohesive and sort of pulling towards something all together yeah I was interested to see what uh you know the direction of the team would be post All-Star break you

Know what is the goal and he comes out out of the break first practice and says hey the goal is to play and the goal is to compete um and I was kind of like like okay let’s see it and so you come out and you you play great these first

Three games but there’s these little moments where you see um he’s holding players accountable like for example Gary Trent Jr against the Brooklyn Nets has an outstanding first half three minutes into the second half he benches Gary Trent Jr because uh he missed his assignment on defense had uh a bad a

Floater Miss in the paint um caused a turnover um on a Scotty pass that was very avoidable and it was kind of like takes him out and Gary reveals later it’s he was basically like get your head in the game um and so we’re seeing that accountability that he’s

Demanding um when we talk about the development of the players what was darko’s big strength coming into this job it was the ability to work with players and help them develop and so when you look at the way Grady dick has come on um over the last you know month

I would say um he has uh taken that program and run with it he he he has taken um you know quickly and said hey we need you to score the ball we got Scotty doing all this passing we got Yak doing all this passing RJ is aggressive maybe you can

Take a page out of that and and now we’re seeing quickly be really really aggressive and when you’re watching these games you can see these moments where Darko and Emanuel quickley are having these little conversations um and going back and forth on different things and I I think that that chemistry is

Building between the two and Darko growing up was a point guard and so you want to see that relationship build as well so um I think all these little things are coming to fruition now and when we talk about all the passing the movement this has been his vision ever

Since he joined the team right this is the type of basketball he wants to see and the pieces is fit for Scotty the piece is absolutely fit for Darko 100% like you nailed on that was just about to go there right like just the way the roster is fitting Scotty the

Roster now is you know set up to play the system dark rakovich wants to play and the Buy in on offense has been remarkable right like everyone seems to kind of get it okay this is what we’re doing you’re not seeing these commandeering possessions that we saw

From maybe a Dennis schruder earlier in the season or even like an OG or a pascal right who I think were more difficult fits within the system and look you know I still have my misgivings about the Pascal trade but again you can’t argue with the way things have

Ended up roster wise and you know that’s fantastic like you can now spend this last quarter of the season third of the Season whatever it is building around darko’s principles for the first time in Earnest all season long it just was not a thing they could really do with the

Amount of uncertainty with the early trade of OG basically the entire month of January being a lost cause for any sort of continuity it it was just a really challenging situation for a firste coach to sort of instill his principles and you’re seeing now he’s had the same group for six seven eight

Games whatever it’s been and things are snowballing now and looking way more cohesive way more connected way more you know sort of with a directive an intention of what they’re doing and even defensively right like in the last day games the Raptors are 15th in defense

It’s not great shakes but it’s also not where they’ve been most of the Season which is bottom 10 and just kind of getting bludgeoned on that end of the floor they’ve been passable I think yaka purle has done a really a nice job as that backline rim protector of late they

They seem to be using him a little bit more as sort of just like a straight drop big and it’s really working for him um you know he also had times where he was dancing with tyres halberton on the perimeter last night to great effect

That was pretty wild um you know I think and you know I think just the general Vibe of connectedness and feeling like there’s something you’re playing towards and knowing this is the team it almost certainly plays into the effort level you’re getting on defense as well and so

Uh yeah credit to Darko man and the offensive system he’s running is like extremely extremely exciting especially as they continue to kind of layer more stuff on what they’re already doing they’re very few games into this version of the team and you would assume it’s only going to get more potent from here

On out as they continue to sort of Leverage The Many skills they have and the diverse sets of skills they have on this roster too this was a game too big V where I thought Rick Carlile was kind of coaching his ass off a little bit and

It was like a pretty good sort of chess match back and forth and I thought Darko pulled the right levers in cranks right like I think down the stretch not having yaka purle there was the decision do you play Kelly o linic at the five do you go

Small with Scotty and he did both right like he ran small with Scotty with Grady and Gary Trent Jr both out there a risk defensively but they held up and then you know the Pacers start to get a little closer and they bring in Kelly oin to close it out settle things down

Little extra ball security and playmaking on the floor and I thought that was a really nice small little adjustment he made down in crunch time to put that game away um did you have any other things from this game that really stood out to you as far as you

Know darko’s coaching Acumen being on display and sort of the micro single game sense um I I again we go back to the plays you were talking about before right some of the sets that the Raptors are running are just gorgeous like sophisticated as hell they got a freaking

Monocle like I I think the play of the game for me was the one where uh Scotty is handling the ball and uh Yak comes and sets a screen on the right side of the floor and rolls and uh quickly is setting a back screen uh into Miles Turner and now Yak has

Just got the lane uh for an alup dunk and that was just beautifully orchestrated um you mentioned you know the play actions with Grady and Scotty and what really breaks defenses in that play is having Kelly on the other side of it and it’s like okay what are we

Gonna do here you know um so I think that’s been a big plus I think when we talk about uh The Cutting between Grady and ochai uh that that’s a big thing that Darko has wanted to implement right and the consistency of that and you think about you know how stagnant the offense

Was last year the lack of uh cutting that we saw the last couple Seasons frankly and so to see that from these guys um oai by the way I just want to shout out there was one where he got closed out in the corner and drove

Baseline and uh got all the way to the rim and then kicked out to Grady with the left um and that was just such a wicked play to see um and so if you’re seeing plays like that uh it gets you more and more excited um and yeah so I think the

Play the play calling uh has been on point from Darko and I’ve Loved some of the sets that I’ve seen and I’ll bring it back to the accountability just because you think about what The Vibes were kind of going into the break right you had these kind of

Miserable uh losses to in New Orleans in Houston um home against San Antonio uh then you had you know a heartbreaker against the Pacers um to go into the break so for for it to look this good in these three games is really encouraging um it’s similar Vibes to right after the

OG trade um and let’s see how long it goes yeah for sure uh you know taking 38 Point losses will certainly knock down the Vibes if it happens but hey they’re not playing in a way that is conducive to getting blown out by 38 points right now they’re actually playing with like

Uh some pride and that is very cool they’re also playing uh in the open court like maniacs and that seems to be another very sort of directively um you know assigned thing by by Darko and the coaching staff like they are back since February 6 they had

A bit of a dip after the seum trade in January where they just weren’t quite running as much in those losses against New Orleans and and Houston in particular they were just kind of walking it up and getting into the half court game which that team just was not

Fit to do all the time uh since February 6 so the last eight games in which they’re five and three by the way uh 18.9% transition frequency per clean the glass that is by far number one in the NBA the next highest is the m Mavericks at 17.5 their Wednesday opponent might

Be a bit of a runny game on on Wednesday um but yeah I you know they’re doing stuff that is fitting their strengths specifically on offense and that to me is the sign of a good coach who puts guys in positions to succeed by doing things they’re good at not asking them

To do things they’re not good at um so yeah awesome stuff from Darko really enjoying it all and also I love that he’s just sticking with a a bench rotation that is the same every game like there’s some value to continuity and just getting some reps with a group

Even if the numbers aren’t killing it that bench lineup is still a minus three per 100 possessions at the moment but I don’t care they are really really playing pretty basketball and you would think that the results are going to start to turn around considering what they’re doing even if the defense and

The sort of defensive rebounding are kind of weak spots for that group Scotty got to be big in those lineups and help the help on the defensive glass because Kelly getting a blung it a little bit either way we’ll come back on the other side big V and round it out with our

Basketball game played by your local Toronto Raptors basketball team I don’t worry I was muted you while you had that mic fumble so uh no harm no foul we both screwed up well thank you um you know I have probably uh been excited from excited about the prospect of oai from the

Beginning so you have been you are the we gotta get you a hat as the conductor of the oai abaji fan wagon fan train I don’t know fan fan bullet train at this point All Aboard All Aboard we gotta get I’m gonna mail you a train [Laughter]

Whistle but yeah I I think um you know the reasons I liked him was because honestly watching him before he came to the Raptors I just felt like he had a nice clean jumper um he obviously has uh a really strong ability to defend uh which is something this Raptor team

Needs um I think he’s got in good instincts when it comes to his cutting ability uh and so we we’ve seen some of that um over the last couple games especially and I think the way he’s starting to fit now you you start to see him as a piece um obviously he’s going

To have to do it over a longer stretch to really see it as a long-term piece and a part of the core so so to speak but I think we’ve seen the the fragments that would you know lend towards thinking that he could be that totally

Man like I have been I think a little cooler on ochai and you know sort of more like wait and see let’s see if he can kind of sort out some of the stuff that rendered his time in Utah pretty short but I mean the thing I love about

Him is is he is just like a smart heady basketball player obviously he knows where to move he knows where to cut he knows where knows where to stand and you get that when you’re a four-year college player who wins a national championship right like that’s the type of dude I’m

More than happy to give some time to and bet on because he knows how to play basketball and the combination between him and grd dick off the wing Off the Bench is pretty fun overall and that leads me to my good here big V which is

Grady dick I I’m mean this guy is so fun to watch right now you can have a wonderful time watching the Toronto Raptors just watching what Grady dick does away from the ball he is constantly moving constantly head on a swivel to say okay where can I move next to help

Leverage this offense in a way that’s going to create a good shot for somebody whether it’s me or somebody else he’s always cutting to the right spots and it was you know we the three-point shooting obvious last night right four or four from Deep he’s been blisteringly hot of

Late it’s wonderful to see but it’s the little things he does in between right the offensive rebounding AC which we’ve known as a thing but last night felt like it really kind of sha through he had that play where he cut in Baseline after after the sort of broken play

Between Scotty and RJ saves it dishes it right back to RJ for a bucket and you know the the Pacers broadcast I was watching back the all possessions recap this morning just glowing with praise for Brady dick and what he was doing and when he missed that uh pull up Jay in

The fourth after he was seven for eight I think at this point he misses the pullup Jay they’re like God thank God he missed this guy’s insane um like he’s he’s turning heads man and it’s really really encouraging to see the defense I think I I think I’m maybe on the side of

Grady dick is gonna net out as a plus Defender someday down the line not yet he’s still not strong he’s gonna get blown through by guys but I do think that as NBA offenses maybe skew to a more European style which I think we’re starting to see incrementally happen

Here the Raptors obviously are part of this um and I think as teams realize that even in the best of situations sort of isoing and picking mismatches it’s just not great offense anymore teams are prepared for that they have scram switching they have extra help all that

Stuff to go and counter just pinpointing Ma mismatches and scoring and and I think as that maybe becomes Less in Vogue and team defense is more prioritized I think grd Dick’s team defense is awesome he moves beautifully he knows where to be and I think he’s like a sneaky good shot contester

Because he’s pretty long and he’s usually taller than the guys he’s guarding and that can create just like a pretty he’s good at that sort of side close up that the Raptors have been really good at this season as well Scotty with a couple of bangers of the

Side close out persuasion last night too um and yeah I I’m very very keen on the little things Brady dick does on top of uh again shooting lightning out of his fingers as he has been for the last month or so what you got for your bad from this

Game um yeah I’ll probably go with Bruce Brown um struggled in this one I know there were maybe a couple moments when that bench unit was rolling uh that you felt it was fine but I think on the whole I think he just came in with that

What I referred to before you know with the hey this is about me too and the trade that went down and I think you know he’s a role player and he excels in being a role player and and wasn’t quite in a Know Your Role uh

Mindset um my bad it’s just yaka Perle getting hurt man he was playing an awesome game uh you hope it’s not a long-term thing again obviously he missed like a month last time he he sprained that ankle it’s the same ankle as well um you know it seemed like it

Wasn’t a foregone conclusion right away that he wasn’t going to come back in the game oh he’s being taped up and maybe he’s going to be back out obviously they held him out I think probably the right call they closed admirably and look they can survive a yach absence more now that

Kelly oenux on the team than they could before but still his Rim protection of late has been fantastic and uh they will feel the effects if he’s not there for sure so hopefully a quick recovery for yakob purle we should get some Intel on that today I would assume uh instead of
