My fun theory about Alperen Sengun’s free-throw (70.7%) and 3-point (28.4%) struggles: Perhaps, he needs LASIK

The following is absolute pure speculation and based on my own casual observation. Al-P probably also had an eye exam and everything so good but I just noticed Al-P seems to frequently squint at the scoreboard and I’m reaching for ANY EXCUSE or REASON to explain this besides the obvious mental lapses. This is just my own viewpoint so go easy, *gulp*.

To me, the squinting indicates either (a) an emotion of frustration, or (b) a need to squint to see far. Now I have no empirical evidence nor will I spent a nice off-day counting the number of times that he has squinted but I find it unusual that someone with such a soft touch and fundamentals can struggle so badly at the line and from distance. The line may be and is more likely mental since you should technically be able to shoot these with your eyes closed after the requisite lifetime, successful reps. Dwight Howard famously could make most (80%) of his practice free-throws as evident by the [whiteboard in the Lakers practice facilities](http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/dwight-howard-actually-makes-80-percent-free-throws-002057899–nba.html) but struggles during games. This was attributed simply to mental lapses.

Al-P may have great court vision because relying on your peripheral may also have been practiced to compensate for lack of direct vision whether consciously practiced or not.

We, Rockets fans, are used to conspiracy theories including the puzzle mystery surrounding why Ryan Anderson seemingly shot so much better in away games versus home games (where there was a lot red in the background) inspiring some to suspect that he’s colorblind for which I never fully investigated the logic, lol.

Chris Paul famously teased attributing to his improved three-point shooting to an off-season LASIK procedure:

I’m sure I’m just throwing out baseless guesses and he’s all checked out and he needs to get to the mental game down but thought I’d throw out my idea since that’s one of the many things that Reddit is for.

Have a wonderful weekend. 🤘

  1. Oh yeah, and personally I got LASIK about 6-7 years ago and it was a game changer for daily life and on the court, as a weekend warrior, it unlocked my range. It was so liberating. Since then, my vision is still near perfect and I love that after going many decades with terrible vision and constantly wearing contacts. This isn’t a promo 😂

Nonsense. Why have lasik when he can just play with Harry Potter glasses?

  3. He generally squints his eyes after he gets slapped/poked in the face.

Isn’t this what Chas got during the beginning is the Astros season last year?
