This team’s roster is as dead as I feel inside. Even when we had a good thing going the basketball gods noticed and decided it was time to suffer again. No end in sight….
Copium is hitting. At least Maxey is getting much deserved rest for his legs
so we are currently a half game up on indiana, sitting in 7th. finishing top 8 is the absolute priority, as that would assure us of not having to play boston if we win the play-in game, and at worst, having two cracks to get into the playoffs. chicago is what worries me, as they are 5 behind us in the loss column
in terms of remaining strength of schedule, according to tankathon:
philadelphia: 14th (19 games left)
indiana: 11th (18 games left)
chicago: 28th (18 games left)
chicago has a cakewalk schedule remaining. we are approaching a nightmarish road trip.
if maxey continues to miss time and his symptoms linger, i fear that chicago will be right on our heels in 10 days
Game-plan the next few weeks
My only consolation is that Thibs will play his starters 47 minutes tonight against our hospital squad and continue to run them into the ground before the playoffs start
35-28 right now. 12 more games until the end of March when perhaps Embiid comes back. Of those 12, only two look like possible wins (Hornets and Raptors) and they barely beat the Hornets at home. The rest are against playoff teams. 2-10 seems realistic over those 12, especially if Maxey’s concussion symptoms linger. That puts them at 37-38. Yikes.
At this point, the 8 spot seems generous and optimistic. They do end with five games that are theoretically winnable if Embiid is there (Spurs, Pistons, Magic, Nets, Grizzlies). Realistically, this season ended as soon as Embiid went down. If they are truly planning on resetting the roster in the offseason with all this flexibility, maybe it is better to lose in the play-in and get as high a pick to trade at the draft. It’s not like they are beating Boston anyway.
