RAPTORS CHOPPED DOWN A 21 PT LEAD BUT FELL SHORT IN OVERTIME| RAPTORS VS TRAILBLAZERS RECAP

Happy Sunday everybody I hope all is well it’s going to be a long day of basketball it was a long night of basketball a long day yesterday for me we played damn near tomorrow we damn near played today going into overtime in Portland I love what I saw no matter

What the situation was we kept fighting we kept competing we didn’t have we didn’t have Scotty we didn’t have RJ we didn’t have Yak we still kept hooping we came there to play with what we came with and we came there to who we came

There to work you know what I mean and and even after we went down by 20 21 points we never we never stopped working we and once we started hitting threes it it became a real conversation cuz they couldn’t despite the fact that they took control over the game they couldn’t close the

Deal and we just kept fighting we kept chopping at it and chopping at it and we never gave up and that’s all I can ask I can’t ask for any more than that we come there and we compete we take advantage of as many opportunities as we could you

Know what I mean and I think the fact that that we came in there and we didn’t give up spoke volumes cuz now you could tell that some of the things that Darko is is is teaching is starting to get through to them mentally because it

There was no there was no giving up like you can tell the energy was there God wanted to win that game and no matter how big the lead was how big the deficit was guys wasn’t stopping we just felt like we could pull it off cuz Portland

Is just you know they’re in the same situation we’re in maybe even a little bit worse because they got the number two pick and DeAndre Aon and they’re in the position that they’re in but um we did what we came to do man we came and we competed I didn’t the only thing

That bothered me a little bit was the fact that we’re still we were a little too conservative shooting like 91 shots I wanted us to get up around 100 cuz Portland got up around they got 128 points on 103 shots they they shot 12 more shots than us there’s no reason for

Us not to go for 100 shots at the least right now at least right now we don’t have to be conservative because we we’re not that efficient yet so we have to keep throwing pasta up against the wall to see what sticks I wish we were a

Little bit more aggressive in in our shot attempts if we would have got it up around a 100 we would have won that game that’s a fact you know what I mean we hit 16 threes impressive they also hit 16 threes the rebounding was similar you

Know what I mean the assists was similar the only thing that like the major like the major thing for me was we could have had more fast break points as well like we had 20 fast break points if we would have got out and RAM more because DeAndre Aon ain’t trying to

Run if we would have quickened the pace a little bit more I think we played more to their Pace last night they they had 11 fast break points they really were they were moving they were moving more so trying to slow the game down because they didn’t want it to be a running

Thing like it’s like i w I wish we would have you know I mean we only got 11 points off of the 26 turnovers they were trying to be you know within a certain space aggressive but not to the point where it became a situation where their their turnovers became a real Factor

Because we we committed 22 turnovers they they committed 26 turnovers and it was like still in close proximity but it’s one of those things where if we would have quickened the pace we would have forced them to play faster and they would have made more mistakes cuz they’re not without flaws

Just like we are you know what I mean I think the fact that we we didn’t push the the the agenda a little bit more so I think we should have got out and ran more you know I mean they they missed they missed what 52 shots you know what

I mean but they got 18 offensive rebounds that’s where the running could have came from we didn’t box out and you don’t have to be the biggest guy on the court to grab a a defensive rebound just box out get position you know what I

Mean and a lot of guys don’t box we still have a small problem with boxing out and making sure that we collect the rebound defensively we only got 38 defensive rebounds no 34 and they got the other 18 in offensive rebounds they missed 52 shots we could have that was

The difference somewhat of a difference right there but the performances we got from the players that we have and the production that we got from the players that we have was it’s all what could we ask for you know we couldn’t ask for any more than

That we went we went down by 2021 early and they were just chopping away at the lead you know what I mean we we’ve Allied a little too much on the three-point shooting outside of quickly taking into the basket and Grady dick and and and at times um at times um Kels

Going to the basket he had he almost had a triple double but we I three-pointers got us back into the game I wish we would have attacked the basket a little more attacked the perimeter a little more because they we they were Portland was ready to tap out

They they was in that space where they wouldn’t if they would have lost that game they they would have been all right with it you know what I mean I think we could have pulled it off I think the overtime they jumped out to a early lead

Delan o Bon sealed the deal with some real clutch plays down the stretch he end the game with 25 points on 16 shots you know five eight from three seven rebounds four assists he’s the he’s he’s starting that point I’m looking they got the number two pick coming off the bench

That’s crazy I was like wow they got they got they got goggles coming off the bench okay they got the young man coming off the bench so I’m like okay I I’m thinking you know maybe he’ll start against us cuz Delo put in the work the night before n Delo started phenomenal

And and he had a great game he had a better shoot night against us than he did you know against the team the night before when he had what 30 points on like 27 shots some [ __ ] like that but our guys did well you know quickly

Quickly stood tall I the more I see him the more I like him you know what I mean 29 Points seven assists G money had 23 points on 26 shots I I mean somebody had to be the aggressor like I can’t even cry over spilled milk on that one cuz some we

Needed some we needed the aggression from as many players as possible Chris has 16 eight rebounds and three blocks but he was clearly no match for DeAndre a and there was no answer for aan you know what I mean it was just mostly DeAndre Aon them hitting threes

And that was like the the core of what they were trying to do but regardless of that we came to work that that’s all I care about like there’s not much we could really talk about outside of the fact guys came to do their job that first quarter like the first quarter our

Players have to understand that the first quarter is very important like especially with us having a young team and a new team the first quarter has to be the most important quarter for us because it sets the tone teams are trying to get control over the game in

The first quarter and then fight to remain in control the back three which is what they were hoping that they could do which is a old game plan teams been using against us for years but some teams just can’t really hold on like others the minute like I think we have

To put a more of an emphasis on either either matching the energy and the production of our opponent or coming out with a sense of UR urgency and taking the fight more so to them dictating the pace and and production ourselves because we fell behind 17 points and we

Didn’t have to they’re they’re on the backto back they’re the port in tril Blazers they’re in the same position we’re in and there’s no reason to fall behind like that they’re coming off of a back to back this is the second game of a back toback we’re a little bit more

Rested we should have known that they were going to try and take control over this game and and dictate the pace and the conversation as much as they can before they run out of gas they started to run out of gas in that fourth quarter

But we were just as you know gas going into the OT after coming back from that deficit but I’m I’m impressed though there’s no reason you know to be this that like upset about the loss nonetheless it was like it was one of those situations where we had to fight ourselves out of

Out of the situation we put ourselves in you know what I mean and we did the best we could we did as much as we could you know what I mean and on to the next one pretty much just on to the next one God I’m seeing better habits from certain

Guys I’m seeing certain things start to take place certain mentality are starting to be cultivated and you’re seeing it expressed through their Play It’s just now it’s getting down to you know building and and paying attention to the little things so I’m I don’t know man like I I

I hate losing I’m not going to lie to you I hate losing but this was one of them games where we fell behind we made it a g we got in the overtime and we kind of just there there’s this thing where we we have to start out stronger

Regardless of the every quarter I think we there should be an emphasis on us starting this the quarter off strong cuz we can’t we can’t fall behind and production and energy and effort in in every quarter in the beginning of every quarter and then try to fight our way

Back in the back six I think there has to be an emphasis on us becoming more aggressive in the first six minutes of every quarter that should be the most the first 6 minutes cuz then that enables us to have a really solid 24-minute base to

Build from as opposed to fighting on the defensive we’re fighting on the offensive which is a little more accommodating especially with us having a young group of guys it’s just a a matter like just tweaking you know the mentality and understanding the what time the the time

Frame that you’re working in you know what I mean guys have to understand that time is a factor in this game you don’t have all day and you have to be you you’re going to be held accountable for what you do in the time that you get so

You have to put your the best foot forward and us as a team I think the first six minutes of every quarter has to be the most important minutes of the game for us because like I said it’ll enable us to have a solid 24 minute Foundation to build from and it’ll Force

Teams to either either you hold your own against us those first six minutes and then we’ll we’ll be able to carry the momentum into the back six or so or the back three and then we can fight our way the back three and you know run solid

Plays and but the momentum has to carry us from the first six into the next three to give us a better Fighting Chance regardless of the you know the roster that we’re going to have as the end product there has to be an emphasis on how much time we have and what we

Should be doing within that time frame you know what I mean so it’s just small things at this point you know once guys get back into the summer work on the individual skills come back next year then we’ll be able to implement a little more of the nuances of the game but this

Is I like what I saw this was more interesting than I thought it would be I thought I thought it would be a very uneventful game it was a little more interesting than I thought it would be you know I mean quickly is he’s starting to understand a lot more what the

Situations are on the court you know what I mean sometimes he’s going to have to score sometimes he’s going to have to facilitate he’s starting to find that that that even ground you know what I mean and it’s going to be dope to see him

  1. I turned my TV off w/21s left on 2Q. Tired of seeing this team.all season long down double digits by half time. This says a lot about Darko & his coaching. I repeat Masai needs to hire an experienced defensive minded coach who will hold Darko & players accountable. Sorry I am not sold on Darko as the HC for Raps.

  2. I thought Boucher was done when his leg was landed on at the end of regulation. It was a relief that he was able to keep going. Last thing we need is more injuries.

  3. I loved the effort as we turned a hopeless game in the first half into a good game, I think the problem we had was that our chemistry had to adjust, this has been the story all season with the new faces. Guys haven't played with each other long enough to know where everybody is going to be on the court. The Portland announcer kept saying the Raptors lead the league in the passing catgories, so our system works when it comes to passing the ball. I think it comes down to chemistry more than anything else and these guys needing to play with each other longer. Quickley has established himself as our future PG and let's have this convo about G-Money is making it hard to get rid of him. This is the true first time since we got Gary in 2021 that he's actually got a legit starting role where he's one of the feature top 2 options on the team right now. His consistency is starting to go up, I think that's been the main problem with G-Money, all of our younger players except for Scottie suffered from that last group, and that's why I'm glad looking back on it that Masai broke that team up. We needed to make these moves to get our future more playing time. There's no doubt with Scottie, RJ, and Poeltl we'd beat Portland with ease, but I'm glad they fought back with what we had and made a game out of it. Just onto the next one, I'm enjoying watching this team right now, anybody being hard on this team or Darko, don't know basketball and doesn't deserve to be a fan of this team now and going forward.

  4. You know what's crazy right now?! Scottie getting injured might've been a blessing for everybody else on the team and Masai. Let me say why it is although it's obvious none of want to see Scottie get hurt, but I'm seeing some things that we wouldn't have seen if Scottie was healthy right now with the main thing being the fact that Quickley is learning how to be an actual point guard in this league passing the ball, this time he's got being the floor general is going to help him quite a bit. Also, look at Gary Trent as well this dude is actually playing like the dude we thought he should be because he's a top scoring option now. Masai can see better what he's got now before the season wraps.

  5. Watching Banton just cheeses me more about decisions made prior to the big OG and Siakam trades.

  6. Raptors did the best with what they had, but right now the wins and losses don't matter just yet for this team. I'm more interested in seeing the chemistry build and see what the young guys are doing individually. We see G Money coming on lately and Quickley as well. Olynyk has been a huge pickup for us, I feel guilty he's not on one of the playoff teams where he can really help them at his age. I see we still got some clowns who are being way too hard on Darko for no absolute reason and it's sickening.

  7. These are reasons alone to fire Darko….keeping Boucher in the doghouse when the team lacks size…
And Boucher isn't a D-anchor he needs another 6'8+ heavyweight to clog the paint while he does his thing…miss Boucher/achiuwa/siakam block party and u can swap Barnes in for the other 2 but neither nurse or Darko wanted to see it

Def miss the Banton Barnes Boucher siakam +1.

Worst part is the best positive 2-3-4 man combos features Boucher.
