Always going to be the Rose Garden uh I’ll talk about that later we’ll talk a little bit about the assists in the defense and all that stuff let’s just dive into Jaylen Brown who continues his post Allstar domination uh since the All-Star game he has been uh his his numbers have been

Fantastic uh he’s averaging six more points he’s up to 28 points a game he’s shooting 4% better uh 41 4.1% better from three although he was one of eight from three in this game but not a big deal he’s rebounding better he’s turning the ball over less you the free throw

Shooting has been an issue since the All-Star break talked about that recently but Jaylen has been uh just overall efficient dominant as as an uh on both ends of the the floor and uh it’s this was another game where he kind of set the tone he did say after the

Game that uh the eight eight three-pointers that he took he said I didn’t need to take any of those that He settled for a few of them and you know he’s going to be critical of himself but Jaylen got to the rim he was aggressive from the beginning he bullied his way to

The rim he he knew he had the matchups he knew he could get there he knew that Portland didn’t have any Rim protection and you know I will say as a side note I keep saying Missoula ball is not just jacking three-pointers this is a great

Example of why Missoula ball is not just them jacking three-pointers because when there’s no Rim protection when there’s an opportunity to get to the rim they do it so if this was if they were just a Jack a three kind of offense they would have taken 63p pointers in this game not

62p pointers they did take 40 three-pointers which is right on par for them uh the last place team in the league is the Lakers I believe and they take 30 three-pointers a game so just wrap your head around the league as a side note wrap your head around the

League 30 to 43p pointers is going to be about what you get and the Celtics have a bunch of good three-point Shooters they’re going to shoot a bunch of three-pointers but Jaylen admitted eight was a few too many he could have got he could have stayed aggressive but also at

The same time you know I’m going to cut him some slack being as aggressive as he was you know he was 11 of 16 in the paint he was six of seven at The Rim you do have to balance that right you do have to take a three-pointer here or

There because you want to keep the defense honest if you just drive drive drive drive drive they’re gonna play the drive and hey you send a little bit of help and then you get into some sort of trouble so I am gonna cut Jaylen some slack you know he’s going to be

Self-critical and I appreciate that that self-awareness I talked a little bit about the self-awareness that he has yesterday I appreciate that in him but you have to take some of those three-pointers because the defense has to respect that and he’s capable of hitting those there are a couple that

Were kind of close Inn out so I I I didn’t sit there and think oh geez jaylen’s really going overboard with the three-pointers I thought Jaylen was was really good with the I thought his shot selection was really good and after the game Joe moula looked at the box score

And he said man this is a shot selection dream Celtics got a 100 shots up they took 62 pointers 43 pointers they got to the line 12 times that’s just beautiful it really is beautiful they got to the rim they got to the paint they took a

Little bit a tiny bit of mid-range but not too many they took good three-pointers for the most part um I thought generally speaking I I come out of this game with no real kind of issues no kind of complaints no nothing I thought they they drove and when they

Had the opportunity to drive and finish they finished a couple of stretches where Tatum missed a few bunnies and Jaylen missed a couple uh you know it’s it’s never going to be perfect but against this Blazers team with Aon as your main Rim protection they don’t have

A lot of Center size they don’t have a lot of shot blocking uh I feel like you can attack that and they did this without porzingis and without Drew holiday imagine if they had porzingis in holiday that would have been just uh I think it would have been a bloodbath

Because then then Aon would have just been hanging around the perimeter and and I also don’t think that Aon would have stepped into as many uh mid-range shots as he did Aton was 11 of 19 he had 22 points 15 rebounds he had six offensive rebounds if there was a there

Was a little bit of a Down uh thing in this game it’s how cleanly they let Aon step into those shots however I I’m gonna just uh refute my own thing there and and counter with defensively hey if you want to let Aton step into a bunch

Of mid-range shots kind of go for it let let that happen because Boston took 43p pointers and Portland took 28 you hold the Blazers to 28 three-point attempts you’re going to minimize the damage that they do from three that minimizes their ability to come back you’ve built throughout this game they built 15o

Point lead or so was right around 15 for the whole game and to let sort I I say let but to to kind of give up eight in mid-range shots as the thing you’re going to live with like sure and if he hits him yeah okay fine you’re he’s not going to hit

All of them and if you’re going three for two or matching two for two then your 15-point lead is pretty comfortable once you start hitting a few three-pointers then you’re gonna you’re going to start to take off and that’s kind of how this went so as much as I

Sat there I’m like can somebody step up on eighton a little bit and yes they should have stepped up on eighton a little bit he was a little too comfortable but at the same time that strategy kind of was what they were willing to live with and and it actually worked out really

Was comfortable but not so comfortable where uh guys didn’t play like if there’s one kind of criticism we could have uh it’s like and I would even say I won’t I won’t even go down this road with criticism the guys played 35 minutes T tayum played 35 minutes Derek white

Played 34 that that’s fine it’s fine you know you’re were hoping that on the front end of a back toback maybe you could have you know wrapped it up a little earlier but that’s nitpicky stuff they they did fine um shout out to Joe for starting d uh Payton Pritchard in

Place of Drew holiday uh normally they go with Sam Hower but they went with Pritchard in front of his hometown crowd in Portland that’s a that’s a just a nice little coaching move that’s something that I think the guys appreciate and you should do that when you have the opportunity and Payton

Pritchard delivered by the way 11 points eight rebounds eight assists uh he did a great job across the board uh did a good job defensively just a good job by pton Pritchard but that fourth quarter four three-pointers by Sam Hower Drive kick uh he did a good job

Relocating good job uh fake sidestep three-pointer it’s a progression in his game this season especially where it’s not just catching shoots for Hower he’s he’s expanding his his game within the role that he has which is the important part right he’s not trying to do too

Much with the G with his game you know he caught another alleyoop to lay in not a dunk but you know gets the rim when he needs to but the the shots off the move the fake side step uh shoot th those types of three-pointers are important and the

Better he gets at those the the just that much more dangerous that he’s going to be so but this goes along with the strategy right you Tatum was very good driving now he shot nine of 23 but again he was two for eight from three so that means he was what seven

Of 15 from two so and then he got to the line six of eight from the line so uh very good aggressive Tatum he didn’t settle he didn’t take too many fadeaways he was aggressive drawing fouls the big sweep through moves and that stuff so

Tatum did a good job uh he had eight assists Jaylen Brown had five assists the Celtics had 34 assists and just three turnovers which is amazing that’s that’s something that I I bottle that up somehow uh which means playing the Blazers all the time which every team in the NBA probably wants to

Play the Blazers all the time they’re not a good team but uh the the ball movement driving kicking understanding uh what you’re trying to do to the defense uh that was that that’s how the game kind of broke open uh the defense overall was really good the Celtics

Blocked 10 shots they got three from Al Horford they got three from Derek white uh they got two from Luke cornette I I continue to take some heat uh when I make a joke like uh Luke cornette is much better when he actually contests shots than fake contest shots uh because

I’m not a fan of the Cornet contest or the eclipse or whatever he calls it but whatever I know fans love it that’s fine you can you can love it I’m not telling you not to love it I just don’t think it works but whatever it’s fine Luke

Cornette has been really really good he doesn’t need to do that little fake contest thing he just can play normal basketball and he was he’s consistently available for like alley oops and put back dunks and he’s just kind of there as an out he’s very good at getting into those

Spots and when somebody drives if the defense steps up cornett’s really good at finding that little seam somewhere behind the defense or down the middle uh and he gets to where he needs to be to be available for the putback or the alleyoop he like I said blocked a couple

More shots he is actually contesting shots at The Rim he had a gorgeous pass to Jason Tatum for a dunk uh that was really good um he he’s an very underrated passer offensive rebounding very good from Luke cornette so he did he did a really good job uh Derek white

Even though the numbers don’t jump off the page 11 points six rebounds five assists two steals three blocks uh pretty good five stocks out of him the numbers the shooting numbers not great five of 14 one of five from three Celtics just an average night 15 of 40

From three so 37.5% nothing special but effective enough because you shot an average amount and you made 15 of them that’s pretty good uh 15 made three-pointers is going to do well when you’re getting to the rim and mixing everything up that’s really really good so uh but Derek white just kept feeling

Like he was in the middle of everything whether he registered a statistic or not it just felt like especially in the first half white was just in the middle of everything they played with great Pace in the first half that was really important they didn’t play Slow they

Didn’t just settle they really played at a good Pace they pushed the ball they got into transition they won the fast break point battle by I want to say like uh 145 it was a significant amount uh and and Derek white was at the heart of that so was Al Horford Horford kicked

Things off just a great game from Horford because he took what they needed what the defense gave them at at first which was Al Horford three-pointers and he hit three in the first quarter and then he just took one made one the rest of the way uh and simple 11 11.4 rebound

Four assists three blocks and a steel for him 10 10 blocks seven steals for the Celtics the defense was really I think on point for the most part little lapses here and there uh you know I didn’t like the eight and six offensive rebounds um and I talked about the other

Stuff there but as far as eight goes but the defense was on point the offense was on point the 34 assists on 49 makes shows how aggressive they were on getting to the basket and just I got nothing to complain about this game this is just a nice solid comfortable win

Over a not so great team but a team that could make some shots right aon’s capable of making shots Anthony Simons is making shots uh Delano Banton held in check after two amazing games for him but Jeremy Grant is capable of making shots so um it if you if you’re not

Careful if you’re not careful any team in the NBA if you just let them shoot any team in the NBA is capable of torching you that’s ESPN just did a whole big story on how 20-point leads are not safe and no 20-point lead should be considered safe in the NBA because

Even a team like Portland you saw they had what a 155 run at one point in the third third quarter the Celtics responded nicely they closed the quarter that’s another thing they did in this game they closed quarters well they closed the third quarter well Sam Hower

Got going at the beginning of the fourth quarter it was an extended 17-6 run and at that point the game was basically in complete control so this was it’s kind of what you look for in a win a road game in Portland uh after you know kind of a a rocky start

To the the the road trip uh people not feeling great you should feel good about this game and the Celtics felt good about this game the Celtics feel good about winning 50 games it’s okay to stop and smell the roses which the Celtics kind of did and I’ll talk about that

Appreciating having won 50 games they they March 11th uh at that point where on the west coast they on March 11th they won their 50th game of the season they are uh comfortably ahead they have eight more wins than anybody in the East five more

Wins than OKC in the west they’re 50 and 14 at a 78% winning percentage they are on Pace for 64 wins which would mean when when Phil Jackson talked about being a true Contender you have to had 40 wins before you lost 20 games well the Celtics have 50 wins before they

Lost 20 games they could get to 60 wins before they lose 20 games they might not even lose 20 games this season because they are on Pace for 64 if they get to 63 uh there you go now if it’s 62 and 20 so be it but that would be uh still

Pretty amazing to get to 60 wins before you get to 20 that I think makes you a Contender and Jaylen talked about like every year he kind of makes the same speech to his team right around this time of year right around the time they they clinch a

Playoff spot or or basically clinching a playoff spot their magic number in the East is 10 nine um so they’re they’re very close they’re gonna they’re gonna clinch that top seed and it’s very likely they’re going to clinch the top overall seed number one throughout in home court throughout the course of the

Playoffs which is going to be really nice that’s something that um I think all of us appreciate and the potential to win uh perhaps a championship at home but 50 wins is 50 wins and and that’s a 50- win season is a good season all right 50 and

32 is when you go back and look through the annals of history and you say oh that was a 50- win team that’s pretty good oh that was a 50 that all these 50 win teams are all pretty good and the Celtics are at a 50 wins and they still

Have uh what did they say 50 and 14 so they still have 18 games to go so it’s okay I and I know I know I hear you some of you who were saying I don’t care about 5050 wins I care about that one last win in June that wins them a

Championship and yeah we all do that’s that’s we get it I don’t want the reaction to be like as I’ve said before cross armed I don’t care I don’t care about 50 wins I just care about a championship well yeah they’re the CH they can’t win

A championship in March but they can get to 50 wins in March and all of these little Milestones all of these little victories are worth celebrating because they’re the little carrots that keep you going through the course of a regular season I compare it to like a weight

Loss Journey right like I’m trying to lose weight and and every time I lose 10 pounds I’m like hey look at me I I just dropped 10 pounds what a great day this is I’ve I’m I’m getting closer to my goal you don’t sit there and be like hm

Yeah that’s fine you won you lost 10 pounds you’re supposed to lose 50 so who cares you know you can’t have that attitude any long journey that you any little victories you get along the way of a long journey they make that Journey a go by faster they make it a little bit

Easier and it’s good to make progress you celebrate your progress so I choose to celebrate 50 wins I think these guys taking a second I’m not talking about champagne or going crazy it’s like at the end of this game 50 wins hey you know what guys this is

Pretty good let’s let’s take tonight and feel good about ourselves because 50 wins is difficult and we got the 50 wins already so you know good for us good job guys feel good about yourselves and I think that’s it’s important to have those moments it’s just like it’s important to have those self-critical

Moments it’s just like it’s good to have the Cleveland moments where it’s like all right don’t get too full of yourself buddy the very boss and like you know like one thing bostonians love is to say don’t get too full of yourself all right like there’s a there’s an appropriate

Level of confidence and if you cross that level of confidence oh you’re getting cocky that’s you can’t get cocky so we love a good keep yourselves in check moment but also you got to have those celebratory moments you got to have those pensive moments you got to have those reflective

Moments you got to have all of them together so mentally you can properly keep yourself in the right place it’s all now as a fan as a fan hey scream and yell and do whatever you want you know as a fan you can sit there and be like

Angry and talk about like Championship orust like that’s fine let’s whatever you but the players this this is important this is important stuff for the players because the season started back like they came they came to Boston back in October right it’s been like six months

Right we’re in March April is around the corner right this is this is a long long journey and so to hear these guys talk about um being grateful for being on this team like they should appreciate being on a good team and they understand the goal is to win a championship but as

Jason Tatum said it’s okay to Pat yourself on the back every once in a while you know as long as that pat on the back isn’t like you don’t strain your shoulder doing it because you’re patting yourself too hard like that’s that’s the important thing like proper perspective so Celtics are 50 game

Winners good for them I think that’s great um I think it’s great to celebrate it I think it’s great to have like a day where you just say ha okay great this is this is fun now you move on to Utah and I don’t know who’s going to play they

Had guys questionable like half the team the all of the starters were questionable I assume that holiday and porzingis are GNA play I know Al Horford will not play I’m gonna bet that one of the Jays has some sort of strain that keeps him out which one’s it gonna be

Maybe it’s Jaylen with that lower back pelvic strain uh not that it seemed to bother him at all in this game but I assume there’s going to be some level of missing guys here in against Utah which is fine which is fine as well because again I I like the fact that

Against these lesser teams mix in some of these other guys you know starting Pritchard start you know get Hower extra minutes get the because those guys are gonna play hard and you’re gonna get a little bit of a rested holiday and a little bit of a rested porzingis I

Assume I don’t know maybe not porz I don’t know that that that hamstring tightness uh he was ruled out pretty early so I don’t know how how long uh I’m I’m just guessing that he’ll be back but maybe not maybe not so we’ll see how they do this is always

I’ve always chalked that Utah game up as a loss we’ll see if they if it remains that way maybe they don’t maybe they maybe they win this game maybe it’s G to be different because of how they they mix up the the Personnel we’ll see I’ll
