The narrative shifted last year when we missed the Playoffs. Now people see Luka as a problem because we are at #8 seed.

I genuinely had no clue what they were talking about lol. They barely mention Lukas MVP case

They move on from the Luka conversation just after the 6 minute mark. Basically they only make 2 points.

    1. Luka isn’t getting love for MVP because Mavs record isn’t better.
    2. That there isn’t a steep +/- drop-off between the Luka and non-Luka minutes. (unlike Denver who has a steep drop-off in +/- when Jokic is on the bench)

The only thing I took away is the Luka is averaging 35+ pts / 10+ assists / 10+ rebounds over the last 25 GAMES.

There’s nothing more i want in this world than to see Luka in the playoffs this year. When he gets shafted for the MVP, he’s going to create some iconic moments and hopefully go to the WCF at minimum.

Pissed off Luka in the playoffs. That’s all i want

I think the last road trip being awful was the nail in the coffin as that made the 4th seed pretty unrealistic to achieve.

I wish there was more acknowledgement that Kyrie missed so many games he was out of award consideration as early as January, Lively missed like 18 games pre-Gafford and Maxi was out too so we just didn’t even have a functioning center half the season before the trade deadline.

It makes sense that Luka doesn’t have as big an on/off as Jokic though. When Kyrie is out Luka plays like 90% of the game time, when Kyrie is available him+our bench depth should beat other team’s benches. Meanwhile Jokic is playing both of the most important positions on a basketball team at once (and their bench is pretty weak)–how can you possibly replace that?

If the Mavs can get to 50 wins, I think he has a shot. He still probably won’t get it, but he’ll 100% deserve it.

  7. Luka leads the league in scoring, is third in assists and second in minutes played.

It’s gotten pretty comical that the better Luka has played, the more irrational criticism he’s gotten to the point that people are making up arguments like THJ not being fed enough. Like at this point he probably has to average 45/15/15 on a 65+ win team to even get consideration.

  9. It’s crazy to me that 7(?) games difference and “seed” have such an impact. MVP is an individual award, not a team reward. The only player having a season I’d be okay with being above Luka is Jokic. And that’s fading fast with Lukas current pace.

I generally dislike the narrative that the player that wins MVP has to be on a 5th or better seeded team. If that’s the bar we’re using then we should rename the award.

But what annoys me even more is that it seems like journalists and talking heads aren’t really taking a close look at the standings. We’re 1 game back from 6th. One single game. We have the same record as other teams that are either actively getting praised or are not being chided for poor performance. I get that the expectations are higher for a team with this level of talent but it seems like narratives win the day and numbers or stats don’t really matter.
