Decisions this Off-Season: Should the Spurs trade for a star or take it slow?

Hey guys,

First time poster here. Just wanted to link an article I wrote about Wemby, the Spurs, the Trae Young conundrum and what GM’s should and shouldn’t be aiming for when they’re building around someone like Wembanyama – check it out and let me know your thoughts!

I was down for us trading for Trae but his contract is expensive.

I’m really not convinced that Trae would fit into the Spurs org and mentality as a whole

Trae young is not our guy. We need to double down on having the best defensive player in the league, by putting a real defense around him.

  4. As fun as Trae and Wemby would be, it’s not the way

We don’t want to be the Mavs or LeBron Cavs that splurge right away because if Trae and Wemby isn’t enough (which is likely considering we don’t have a good supporting cast yet and the West is stacked) then we’ve used up most of our assets and obviously we won’t have high picks coming in anymore. No real way to get out of purgatory (Like the Mavs rn)

We want to be Denver, Warriors, Celtics, OKC and build naturally and slowly. Get your core through the draft and develop them and then use your picks to add pieces around them
