Leon Powe appreciation post

Leon Powe does not get enough credit on this as he should. If this guy didn’t have knee issues he would have played longer than 5 years in the NBA and we would not have let him go. People forget how big he was for us when KG got hurt in the 08 season and 09 season. He was a 6’8 undersized Center but he would hold it down. He could play the 4 and 5 position and was strong af. We always rave about how if Perk didn’t get hurt in 2010 we would have won game 7 but the thing is if Powe didn’t get hurt we would have still had him on the roster and we probably would have another championship.

As crazy as it may sound I know he won us game 2 in the NBA finals and was a huge part of our success in his minimum time in the league, but he could have went down as one of the best role players in Celtics history especially if he had a longer career. Lastly, even when we let Perk go I would have no problem with Powe being a starting center. Ain’t no way I would wanna face a KG/Powe frontcourt that’s a wrestling match for opponents. He was tough!

Big shout-out to Leon Powe. I know he’s a community ambassador for the Celtics, but he will always be a fan fav in the city of Boston.

There is your 2008 championship. Everyone talks about the Big Three, and for good reason…but Powe was a big body, off the bench, critical minutes. 17 min/game getting 7 points and 5 boards. In the playoffs, slightly lower stats, but every single thing that Leon contributed helped.

Never forget that condescending, bitter ass Phil Jackson referring to him as “POW” during the post game press conference after game 2 in the Finals. I loved it, he was so upset Powe was a beast in the paint, getting to the line 13 times, out scoring Gasol in that game.

The Game 2 of the 2008 NBA Finals will forever be known as the “Leon Powe Game”
