It yet we haven’t gotten an update other than he left with a left knee hyper extension really as simple as that there was a video of jiren Collins I saw rod Walker of nola.com the times picky you and The Advocate share this out of jiren Collins assistant coach talking to head

Coach Willie Green saying left knee hyper extension that’s all we really know right now we don’t know if it’s season ending he could be back I doubt it tomorrow but he could be we literally don’t know anything and admittedly it looked bad right like it looked bad oh

Looked bad you know he was being helped off with teammates he was able to put a little bit of weight on it it looked like but not a ton of weight and that is a really big deal that’s not an encouraging sign if he had just walked

Off that would be one thing but we literally don’t know anything here so because of that I don’t want people to jump to conclusions in things like that right now because we’ll find out more and when we know more we’ll do the show and maybe a live show kind of um getting

Into all of this here so let’s not overreact too much yet but admittedly it didn’t look good and I’m sure this is bringing back a lot of PTSD for Pelicans fans right as they were kind of cruising an injury to their best player their second best player and Brandon Ingram

Kicks in it reminds us a little bit of the DeMarcus Cousins injury a couple of years ago with the ACL injury going on a hustle play right so it’s unbelievably disappointing but here’s what I want to say the only thing I really want to say too much about this right now again

Because we don’t know we don’t know is the season isn’t over you know I didn’t think this team was going to potentially win a title anyway so I don’t think they have no chance at it now I thought I wanted just to see him in the playoffs

It’s a blow to that part and I’ll get into that in a second here but there’s still 13 games left to go in the regular season there’s still things to play for and if you’re one of the people screaming the season’s over you’re doing a little bit of discredit to the rest of

These guys that have things to play for for the rest of the team that does have things to play for they have objectives they want to achieve they want to win games they’re going to try and be the next man up and do whatever they can to

Continue to help this team with that and this team strength one of them has been their depth right assuming be is out for some period of time we assume it’ll be Trey Murphy stepping into the starting lineup I think they can be okay Trey Murphy is not Brandon Ingram there’s no

Replacing Brandon Ingram particularly because Brandon Ingram has been playing some amazing basketball over these past couple of weeks where he’s been more of a facilitator he’s giving such an effort and been good defensively we even did a show about that as well this no matter

What is going to be a big blow but there are still things to play for I want to see this team in the postseason even if it’s just for fun right that’s what I want to see I will say this what this really does hurt is your chance to what this potentially hurts

Right what this potentially hurts because again we don’t know the extent of the knee injury here is seeing brain Ingram and Zion Williamson in the postseason that was one of my stated objectives for the team what I wanted to see was those two guys in a playoff

Series how they interact how they handle defenses are they able to score how they play defense so that you can kind of evaluate all of this going into this offseason and know the moves that you need to make this could potentially potentially I’m going to stress that

Again impact that because we don’t yet know for sure but this team is good they’ve been good they are also four- two this season without brain Ingram they are capable of winning games I don’t think this is a team that’s necessarily they could slide into the playin tournament get bounced out and we

Don’t get to see them in the postseason at all they’re capable of winning very many games still as they have proven and done so far this year but if he is out for an extended period of time obviously it’s going to be a setback it’s going to be something that hurts

This team and their overall Talent level the ceiling for this team and what they’re going to be able to achieve and we’ll have to just kind of talk about it and adjust accordingly if that’s the case but it was not fun to see that happen I know we’re all just hoping for

The best that’s really all we can do until we get an update from the Pelicans um I haven’t seen anything gotten anything yet they’re probably going to do some Imaging you know we’ve seen players come back from injuries that look like they should be way worse than

They are and they’re not you know so we’ll find out exactly how this goes for them but not really the best case scenario for New Orleans hopefully it’s just going to be a minor injury and he maybe misses a game or two but yeah the Heat game uh tomorrow night Friday night

Second night of a back toback is certainly going to be hard you know Jimmy Butler is going to play in that one so the Pelicans can stay in this I think over the course of the season but it definitely does mean like no you know without them they’re not going to go to

A championship game a championship series I didn’t think they were going to do that in the first place so it hurts to see here so we’ll wait to know more no updates if you’re watching and listening to this show right now maybe there will be in the morning as soon as

We get that maybe we’ll get one tonight I’m keeping an eye out for for any alerts and things like that we’ll of course really talk about it and kind of break it down then when we have specifics on how long he might be out for what the need to do and hopefully we

Don’t end up needing to do that show and he’s going to be just fine but his reaction the way he couldn’t put much weight on there that was going to be that’s going to be a really hard thing so next man up mentality this team wants

To go and win games they even got this Orlando Magic game close in his absence in the third quarter in the fourth quarter at times too but they were ever they were never able to get over the hump so let’s shift from the Brandon Ingram injury to what happened in the

Pelicans loss to the Orlando Magic 121 106 as we just wait for more news on the Brandon Ingram injury so one thing you notice if you watched the game if you looked at the box score here the Pelicans took just 23s made just six the Orlando Magic took 23s in the first half

Alone that was a huge problem for New Orleans and something they absolutely need to fix going forward I want to break down why that was so bad for this team and why it was the main reason in my opinion for this loss that’s coming up here next in today’s episode episode

Every day okay so let’s talk about the actual game the Pelicans losing to the Orlando Magic here 12116 there were a couple things that were the big culprits but the one that kind of just fed into everything was three-point shooting for New Orleans I don’t know what they were doing here to

Be perfectly honest with you you know they were up early in this game and the Orlando Magic basically all their shots were threes right they took a ton of Threes the Pelicans didn’t and that’s honestly the reason they lost the game it’s it it fed into everything it’s not

Just that the Pelicans were 6 for 20 they only only took 23s which is absurdly low it wasn’t that they made six threes to the Orlando Magics 14 that’s a 20 that’s an eight eight three-pointer made difference that’s 24 points 24 points in a game that the Pelicans lost 106 to 121 you

Got to take more threes this is something that I we’ve been banging the drum on all season long because it feeds into absolutely everything everything that this team wants to do because if you don’t make threes you’re going to have a guy like Zion Williams in

Struggle in this game and he did in the first half he had a very quiet first half with just nine points on four of eight shooting he also had six turnovers in the first half you want to know why the Orlando Magic just bodied him up

Took away the rim and because no one was taking threes he just decided to try and do things and it led to him turning the ball over now the refs weren’t doing him any favors absolutely not calling fowls that they 1,000% should have but this is why three-point shooting is important on

A team with Zion Williamson if if you had taken more threes made more threes that might have opened that defense up a little bit the Pelicans took just eight eight in the first half of the game the Orlando Magic took 21 they made nine the Pelicans made two you’ve got to take

More threes I want to pick on the guy because he left the game injured in Brandon Ingram but this is one of the reasons why I’ve been screaming Brandon Ingram needs to take more threes in this you know this season he went 0 for one

In a game where you have to take more threes the Pelicans need to figure out a way to generate those shots because otherwise your offense just completely falls apart and this is something that we’ve said here right the I see you I see you um in the chat right there that

Is a good shirt um this is something that we’ve said all season long that if you’re missing shots teams can get those rebounds and run against you and now they’re scoring in transition those are easy points the Orlando Magic are not a good halfcourt team whatsoever but they

Were able to get out enough and run and then when you’re doing that the Pelicans now have to inbound the ball and they’re going against the set defense and they’re not able to get out and run themselves either so that is a big part of what happened in this one the lack of

Spacing here absolutely just killed this team in the first half they needed to take and ideally make more three-pointers in the first half in this entire game to just open things up and then let Zion cook now they didn’t do a good job of that whatsoever however they

Were a little bit better in terms of taking threes in the second half and Zion started to get it going a little bit more with 11 points but he was still very limited in this game and look it it goes down to kind of some of the things

We’ve said here the starters weren’t able to really win their minutes significantly Zion was a plus minus of zero Brandon Ingram a minus eight you had CJ McCullum as a minus 10 in this game and now if the bench can’t get some of these big runs because you actually

Have some decent depth on this Orlando Magic team in Cole Anthony Jonathan Isaac Marquel folz you know Les uh Vagner is there as well that’s a big problem one the the other Vagner brother you you don’t get on those runs and then you lose the game your starters need to

Be winning their minutes more and Orlando is a good team don’t get me wrong here but when you’re not able to do that you’re going to lose the game and sometimes it’s really that simple and so because the Pelicans weren’t taking threes they just really had a big

Problem and it bled into everything it’s one of the reasons why they turn the ball over so much when the spacing is just that bad you can get 18 turnovers with eight of those eight of those coming from Zion Williamson because you got to give him some space to work this

Is also on the coaching staff as well right you need to maybe in this game if guys aren’t willing to take threes if they don’t want to shoot the ball Jose only took one in in this game right you know he played big minutes Larry Nance

Jr didn’t take any Naji took just two you know brandan Ingram just won herb Jones took just one CJ only took six Trey Murphy only took five put guys in that are willing to shoot I don’t love the idea of making knee-jerk reactions and big changes when what you’ve been

Doing is winning right like I’ve repeatedly said that don’t fix what isn’t broken and this team hasn’t been broken but in a game where it’s one thing if you’re missing the shots I don’t think you need to put guys in if you’re just missing the shots but if

You’re not going to take them at all that I do think is a really big problem and that’s not what I like at all to see so guys that are willing to shoot going to move and get open you saw a lack of off ball cutting a lack of off ball

Movement for the Pelicans in this one and it led to things just being an absolute mess offensively that’s going to lead to turnovers that’s going to lead to Zion being a little bit bottled up they need to figure that out if Brandon Ingram comes back right he’s got

To take more threes he’s got to take more threes that’s not going to work you also we’ll get into this in the next segment a little bit more too the center position could be a problem and against a guy like Beno and some of the other players here you know in Wendell Carter

Jr and some others that can hurt a team like the New Orleans Pelicans but really their their bad offense led to some really bad defense here and led to just easy shots and things like that for the Orlando Magic I want to get specific speically into the defense the pick and

Roll defense how that relates to the open three-point shots and everything that they were hitting taking and making because the pelcon struggled with that we’ll look at that in the next segment here but again to me if the Pelicans are going to do anything in the postseason

Brand Ingram or not right they need to absolutely go out and take more threes 20 20 is terrible like I don’t understand how you can do that in today’s NBA like I don’t understand that just at at all like that one just kind of blows my mind that you only took 23s

The worst team in the league in terms of three-point attempts per game is the Los Angeles Lakers they take 31 you took 11 less than that 11 fewer there we go I know what I’m doing fewer than that that’s absolutely unacceptable and not something that you can do at all

So take more threes take more threes or play the guys that are going to take more threes look if Brandon Ingram’s out that’s going to mean a guy like Hawkins or Dyson D are going to get in more minutes and into the lineup you need those guys even though Dyson’s not a

Shooter to take threes we know Hawkins certainly will so that’s at least a good thing the Pelicans this season by the way 32.2 three point attempts per game they took 20 what are we doing here they need to figure that out it led to all of the bad offense which then fed into

Worse defense but the Pelicans weren’t good defensively even when they were in the half court and not getting you know killed in transition and other things so coming up next let’s talk about that and then and then we’re going to do the more interactive live show here and answer

Atrocious in tonight now part of that was those turnovers that the Orlando Magic could get out and run as teams to because that’s what happens when you turn have a live ball turnover and the Pelicans were very sloppy in this game just looked a little bit of and look

Those games happen like those games happen you can’t take like every losses you know I don’t want to say end of the season here because of the Brandon Ingram injury with this all but you’re allowed to lose games even the best team in the league loses games right that’s

That’s going to happen here Boston has 14 losses pelicans have more but the next closest team still has 20 in the Oklahoma City Thunder right the Pelicans only have six more seven more now after this one so they’re still in a fine spot they’re still a good team the season is

Not over even remotely but the defense in this one struggled and this is something you’ve seen in other losses for the Pelicans too pick and roll all Heavy teams like the Orlando Magic the Cleveland Cavaliers that last loss was also really one of them as well they do

A very good job of beating New Orleans because they do struggle a little bit in the pick and roll part of that is the Pelicans defensive scheme is just predicated around switching right if a big man comes and sets a screen the Pelicans don’t go around that screen

They just put the big man on the guard or the guard on the big man and in this one it meant they were switching a guard or Wing onto poo banero that dude’s good banero is really really good he just had an easy 20 and uh he had a triple double 20

10 and 11 right when he would get that ball in the pick and roll situation and attack the basket Falcons kind of collapsed on him one thing they want to do is take away shots at The Rim because they’re not great at Rim protection Rim deterrence is fine but Rim protection is

Not so let’s keep him out of the paint right like push him away send another guy over to him well now your defense is rotating and rotating defenses if there’s good ball movement can absolutely get burned and they did the Orlando Magic had 33 assists in this one

And often times the ball was getting sent out to wide openen three-point Shooters because with enough ball movement around the three-point line around the horn you’re going to end up having that so Vagner in the starting lineup was two of five benera when a small was switched onto him or sagging

Back right playe drop coverage whatever it might be was wide open from the three-point line and he can take that shot he was two of five right Jaylen Suggs was three of eight Gary Harris one of two they had multiple guys taking and making threes one two three four five

Guys made multiple threes one two three three other guys made threes right they had eight players make three pointers here by comparison New Orleans had just two guys make three-pointers CJ McCullum and try Murphy right like two other players attempted more than one Matt in garbage

Time so let’s remove that it was really just Nai Marshall who went 0 for two everyone else took one or zero it’s it’s not going to work but you see them just running that pick and roll and this is where yonas valunas hurts you you know

But I don’t know if the Pelicans are really built to defend a team like this they’re you know the Orlando Magic are long so when they do get the ball down low the Pelicans are at a bit of a disadvantage there particularly with Larry n Jr and his minutes in this game

Were Absol sorry absolutely rough so you you have this situation where just it it it’s nothing good basically just nothing good you can chalk it up to an off Knight you could chalk it up to Orlando being a bad matchup and look the Pelicans all have a chance to get

Revenge they play them again later on in the season here I forget exactly when that game is but there’s a chance here to try and beat them but I don’t know it’s weird that they have like historically had trouble with the Orlando Magics back next on April 3D

They they always have trouble with this team right like the second or I’ll tell you I was laughing kind of early on and this is sad and this tells you how long I’ve been doing this you know early on in the game here the team the Orlando Magic were just nailing wideopen threes

And I see on Twitter and it’s like Oh They’ll regress to the mean right they can’t stay hot all night you want me to tell you what a team playing the Pelicans can do they can stay hot all night trust me I’ve been doing I’ve been

Covered the team for like 12 years now I’ve been doing this podcast this is my sixth or seventh season I forget like one of the or basically one of the original hosts of the locked on network which is huge now I have seen thousands Pro not maybe not yeah probably about a

Thousand Pelicans games something like that since i’ just been covering them right maybe it’s more than that too it’s in that range and absolutely opponents against this team can stay hot all night I don’t know why Orlando almost always does does it too so it could be that

They just ran in are a bad matchup there’s just some weird ju guu against the Orlando Magic wiie green definitely kind of missed a few beats on this with more tactical in-game adjustments though I don’t really fault him too much on that because again they’ve been winning

Game stick with what has gotten you there and the Pelicans got this one close despite how poorly they played despite how poorly they played they got it within five in the third quarter and they just couldn’t get over that hump and make those adjustments that’s what

Comes to it though when you kind of blow some of these quarters that they had losing that second quarter 34 to 20 just puts you in too deep of a hole same thing for the third quarter 38 to 27 that even when you go on a run you’re

Almost exhausted from making that effort and you’re not going to be able to get back into the game and that was disappointing these games happen right these games happen Orlando is not like the seller dweller Orlando Magic of old either here they are a good team and you

Really saw it here they’re young they can make other moves too they’re going to be fighting for homecourt Advantage they are now tied with the New York Knicks by the way for fourth in the Western Conference so they absolutely are kind of a good team and it’s not

Like a bad loss per se for New Orleans but look this game the result of it what we saw from It ultimately doesn’t matter right like this one was about Brandon Ingram and we’re hoping for the best one the with the injury that like as I said

The thing we don’t know is what it is yet I haven’t seen any updates since I’ve been recording this I don’t know if we’ll really get any tonight that’s an okay thing let’s just wait we’ll see what what happens here in the future and we’ll go from there and we’ll do a show
