Okay I know what Paul pierce says doesn’t hold that much water anymore, but isn’t this becoming an increasingly common notion? This is not the GOAT debate, but when it comes to influence, is this really that big of a debate? Curry changed the way the game was played by a generation. Which other player comes to mind? And I’m saying this as a laker fan lol.

LeBron created superteams
As a massive Steph fan, I’m so happy to see his peers and past players acknowledging him, but it’s also true that Klay being on the same team was a huge part of the Warriors going so all-in on 3s.
Also there’s a fair bit of “post hoc ergo propter hoc” going on as well where they’ve changed the way the game is officiated to encourage 3s because of how exciting they are and how they promote higher scoring, and that would have happened regardless. (because 3 is more than 2)
As a fun hypothetical: in an alternate universe, they move the 3pt line back a little bit in an attempt to discourage 3s, which I think would have paradoxically *increased* the disparity in 3pt shooting ability between Steph and most of the rest of the league.
I don’t think he’s exaggerating tbh.
The 3-ball has become weaponized, and being able to come off a dribble and create space to shoot it was something that is a Steph trademark (also Harden to a lesser degree).
I also feel that the fast break 3 should be accounted for, which is something Klay was privy to do in the early years of the Splash Bros. The history of the game has been spun on it’s axis with the Golden era and neither Lebron, Kobe or MJ fans can deny this.
Yep.
I disagree. And I’m still not going to watch undisputed.
maybe Im an oldhead but AI had everyone wearing shooting sleeves, durags, chains, and conrows.
LeBron just said the same thing in his JJ interview
The other name LeBron brought up was AI which I thought was interesting.
He gives AI credit for popularizing crossovers and small guys finishing inside over the the trees.
And he pointed out the similarity in size and how fans and kids could see themselves in AI and Steph more than they ever could Shaq or LeBron
Steph pushed the envelope in a way that showed the next couple generations of players and coaches what was possible for people that didn’t win the genetic lottery like Lebron and Kobe. Without Steph, Caitlin and a lot of other players wouldn’t have spent the time to develop exceptional 3PT skills.
Of course he did.
He brought 3 pt shooting back to the league and revolutionized basketball.
He’s a once in a generation player.
Ehhhh. I don’t know. Certainly more than Kobe and Lebron, but MJ took the game global. It would be a very interesting discussion between the two from someone with a lot of knowledge on the subject, ie not Paul Pierce.
Listen I’m as big of a curry fan as you’ll find, but I think the idea that he deserves 100% of all the credit for the 3 point revolution is a bit of an overstatement. He definitely deserves credit and he is definitely inspiring the next generation, but the fact that 3 pointers have taken over the league is attributable to a combination of many factors, of which Steph Curry is just one.
I think Jordan really elevated the NBA to a worldwide level, so it’s impact is greater imo but Steph may be my favorite player of all time because is just pure skill; Lebron, Jordan and Kobe they have (had) great skill aswell but they were also great athletes, Steph has great stamina but his skill level at basketball is just unmatched and he single handled transformed how the game is played.
