POSTCAST – Rockets explode for 8th straight win against the Utah Jazz

It was a record setting night for all the wrong reasons as the rockets explode three point shooting that’s hard to Fathom and the Jazz get blown out in Houston we’re talking about it next on postcast you are locked on Jazz your daily podcast on the Utah Jazz part of

The locked on podcast Network your team every Day David lock along with Ron Boon as the Houston Rockets came out often and early 47 first quarter points tonight they score 85 in the first half the most Allowed by the Jazz ever in 50 years of Jazz basketball they score 147 which is the most they’ve scored all year and the

Most we’ve allowed all year they led by 20 for I think the entirety of the final about 40 minutes of the game uh this was this is the low point of the season for the Utah jazs very much so and and I’m just thinking 49 three-point shot attempts that has to

Be this SE I don’t remember most three-point shots ever against the Utah Jazz too for most three-point makes yes so they took a 20po lead about three minutes left in the first quarter and I believe it dipped under for one possession the rest of the way

Woo so three-point shots will do it I mean 20 7 three points made that’ll win a lot of basketball games if you’re that hot so let’s start there for a second so they go 27 of 49 from three 49 allowed to me is the problem there not the 27 actually right um the

Jazz are last in the NBA in three-point shooting defense the general belief in the analytic Community is that whether or not open threes go in or not is luck or good luck or bad luck so that would tell you the Jazz are having bad luck but there’s that one’s hard like

Are are we is there some level also where you’re just giving uh so many open threes in such rhythm with such little contest that everyone’s making them that such a great way of putting it as far as you team players get into a rhythm regardless if it’s just fadeaway jump shots or

Whatever so you get into a rhythm of knocking down threes just as you know easy as knocking down a 15-footer I guess with some guys and and they were in the Rhythm I mean three guys was green and and leaf and both well both greens for the

Most part got into a rhythm of knocking down threes I mean the one thing I would say is there is a theory in this league that you can make the wrong guys take threes like New Orleans is the best three-point shooting defense in on open threes in the league Rockets are right

There with them rocket are the best three-point shooting defense in the league at 35% and so the theory is that those teams make the wrong guys take threes or the guys they want well we certainly aren’t doing that V Fred Van vet is 38% he’s their best three-point

Shooter other than Aon holiday he took 15 threes tonight like you just can’t I don’t care he made you can’t let Fred Van vet get 15 threes off well you see you start to feel in it because he pulled up from about 30 feet you know

One time there in that in the first in the first uh what in the second half and guys’s get to into the Rhythm and I totally agree I mean there’s a certain style or defense or certain way of playing defense that that dictates you know the type of Threes that you’re

Giving up and uncontested threes are are not good in this league because there’s so many good shooters that you can get hurt by them so the Jazz uh are not shooting it well they’re playing a lot of guys different rotations different systems I think that’s probably a little

Bit a part of it as well uh there was a bright spot from the Jazz in the second quarter KY lewi Jor who was the 13th pick of the New Orleans Pelicans never really got off the ground his rookie year early in December of his second

Year of the NBA he tore his ACL and then never kind of got by the time he came back from his ACL New Orleans had moved on and then he bounced around this year with no opportunity this was really one of the first times he’s gotten to play

In years uh he’s he’s little he 61 170 so he’s got some physical drawbacks but I thought there were a lot of things he showed really positively tonight well we got a chance to see him uh play minutes and and see exactly what he

Can do what he does have I think is his ability to pass the basketball and and the same amount of quickness I think and maybe not as as explosive as Colin seon but he does have the quickness to uh to you know to beat his man off the dribble

Defensively now obviously at that at that size uh defensively he’s going to you know have to show I think that he can that he can defend yeah it’s a really tough thing to play defense at that size at this point in time um he does seem to organize the team well get

Into systems well um and and kind of play get in in you know a lot of the ball moves when he’s on the floor I think there’s a lot of things will hardy is going to be complimentary to him about and and and also David he seems to

Push the ball up the floor I just wish the Jazz would play a little bit faster um especially after a Miss shot by Houston Rockets what did they do tonight they pushed the basketball ahead you know they pushing ahead and a lot of times you you push in here you have

Numbers and you can you make some things happen but I think they had 19 fast break points in the first half I don’t know something like that it was it was very very well they ended up with um 34 points to paint 19 fast break points in

The first half right that that’s quite a bit Jazz were not ready for that they finished with 30 fast break points tonight I mean this there there are some things like obviously the Jazz aren’t competing at a very high level win loss wise right now there are some things I

Think that will hardy has to look at to address for the so we’re allowing 21% of opponent’s possessions in transition which is by far the most of any team in the NBA like they’ve got to figure that out there’s just a lot of times where three guys are behind the play and teams

Are running out on them and I think they’re going to have to figure that out um and then the other thing I think they they have to figure out obviously is the turnovers tonight I don’t know where they were um they only turned it over I think 10 times tonight so tonight’s not

As bad but just and are the turnovers causing that transition and I guess this three-point shooting issue you gota you got to do some self analysis and figure out like are we really the worst three-point shooting defense in the NBA or did we get unlucky and if we got

Unlucky why and you know we also allow the most I believe we allow the most open threes or second or third most open threes in the league so you are getting teams they’re kind of knowing they’re going to get some good looks when they come into the night so those are the two

Things they need to address and and you know you might as well you know do the best you can with if you’re going to play these young players right now I mean that has to be a priority especially going in into next season and you get a chance to see you know what

These young players you know can do and can they improve on on just that uh along with you know getting back and and protecting the paint I think those are the two things that the young players that must get better at Will Hardy has taking longer than usual to come to the

Podium tonight I will say he is not there yet I’m super curious about this and so this is before he talks to the media just I’m being clear so there have been three occasions this year where Will’s kind of really laid it out right like he’s come out pretty brutally and

And you know if you don’t there’s the you know if you don’t give a beep about the Utah Jazz you don’t get to play there’s the don’t pass don’t in Portland there was there was one other maybe two you know the old rule from Rudy Tom jonovich and George Carl and some others

I remember the you kind of have three times you can really light into your team a season I I don’t know if Will has one he might have need more like in certain circumstances with the young team I’m curious see what he does here because we’ve got 10 games left in the

Season what we saw tonight’s not acceptable to will he’s been very clear about what’s acceptable and what’s not this was not acceptable certainly the Rockets got hot and were exceptional and it you know it’s an outlier in some areas but there also was just like they their offensive rating in the first

Quarter was a 196 let me just be perfectly clear about this this is crazy are you ready here’s how bad the defense was in the first quarter if we had allowed them to dribble up the floor every time and not fouled them and they dunked for the

23 shots that they took in that quarter they would have scored one fewer points than they did in the quarter but because of the three-point shots that they were getting because they went six of eight from three and three of five from the free throw line

So yes if we had probably let them have every possession so there’s 25 possessions if they had walked down and dunked every time they would have scored 50 points instead of 47 maybe my little you know not counting the free throws isn’t fair not needless to say they

Scored 47 points in the first quarter on about 25 possessions their offensive rating was a 196 literally they averaged 1.96 points per so will will can’t decide that that’s acceptable but I don’t know how he he’s got to do something to get more juice out of the group for the

Final 10 games of the season while still developing young Talent while clearly like W’s aren’t the focus and he’s and this is that’s really hard I why fast I’ve never heard about a coach only the right thing to do is have three times in the course of the Year where you light

Into I mean the theory is that that the fourth time they’re rolling their eyes and they’re like that’s enough out of you You’ know this better than I I’ve been a locker room like if a Coach yells at you too many times at some point you

Rolling or does it just depend if you’re actually culpable and you’re actually yelling and screaming and that kind of thing maybe that may yeah something like that could be right but I think during the course of the year you got to call guys out you know uh especially young

Guys I mean it’s the guys that want to improve and want to have longevity in this league be a star whatever they listen I mean I think here’s what’s super interesting I don’t know how this relates totally we can do thank you for those of you who listen to the show cuz

You had to really love the Jazz to tune in after a 30-point loss and hopefully we’re giving you a really good show cuz I think I think this is inter I’ll share this with you I I share this with you on the plan I watched I listen to LeBron JJ

Reic podcast it’s amazing yes and LeBron was asked what it takes to be great he said history of the game sacrificing loved ones not like literally but no he literally said this and basketball IQ sacrificing loved ones he basically said like yeah like everything in your

Life has to be about you I sacrifice my loved ones all the time I in the summer I get up I work out I come back I nap for two and a half hours I get back I probably work out again during the day all the food in the house is based on

What I need all the food in the house is based on what I need to what I’m going to work eat for me every meal time everything done in the whole entire family is based on me and during the season it’s worse your sacrificing loved

Ones I don’t know what it takes for our guys to get that but that’s they don’t get it yet and that’s very interesting because the lifespan of a player right now is four years so that was the next thing he talked about he said like you literally are in the locker room you’re

Like oh he’s gone maybe he got his max contract and he’s good now he doesn’t need to play like oh he’s gone wonder what happened to him oh he just didn’t want to put in the effort like literally that’s what LeBron said exactly what you’re saying I sorry I didn’t mean to

Interrupt you but you literally went you went to exactly the next spot LeBron went to was like you look in locker rooms you’re like oh he’s gone oh wonder what happened to him oh he got his money he was good he didn’t need to work anymore I’ve already had this

Conversation with one player oh okay okay yeah but can understand that so to get 10 years in the league not only are you sacrificing I mean you’re I mean you’re putting in the time you’re putting in the work when you hear players talk about putting in the work

That’s what you’re doing your loved ones have to understand that this is our livelihood and this is 10 years of being about me and then I take care you no that’s what it is that’s what it ends up being you know and I’ll give you some numbers

On the plane David LeBron that all right we’ll talk about it all right stars tonight Kyra Lewis Walker Kesler yes exactly the num yeah players Kyra Lewis Walker Kesler Walker was really good tonight ran really hard played really hard made a bunch of plays did a bunch of things give Walker some credit

Tonight uh that is that is the uh postcast hope you enjoyed it thank you for tuning in we really appreciate like you’re a die hard if you’re with us tonight after a loss like that really easy to not tune in but hopefully you trust us to give you good

  1. Thanks David and Ron! Postcast was great. I look forward to it especially after games like tonight because you guys give a little pick me up! 😊

  2. I was actually worried about the Rockets when Sengun went down with an injury. I was worried they'd drop down below us and mess up our draft position. Looks like I had nothing to worry about.

  3. Sexton must be the point guard, moving forward! I know the jazz aren’t trying to win, but if you want to end the season off on a good note with some kind of continuity going into next season, let Collin sexton lead this team man

  4. Coaching, management and the players are ALL turning into an unmitigated disaster. We are sinking faster than the Titanic. What? The prayer is that we find some new "John Stockton" or Karl Malone in the draft. Its not happening people. I have followed the Jazz since they were in New Orleans with Pistol Pete. Although its too bad, kids today could not see the ABA, it was a superior form of professional basketball.
