Nights some you know draft stuff all that kind of stuff going on in Hawks land right now but Today’s Show will focus heavily on what became a blowout win for the Hawks 132 to 91 at the hands of the Charlotte Hornets this is the first game of a five-game home stand for

Atlanta and the first first game after a very long West Coast road trip and uh the Hawks stopped a stretch with this win of five losses in the last six games before this and also they defeated a Hornets team that has had their number let’s just say so Charlotte has won four

Straight games over Atlanta coming in to the night including twice this year despite the fact that Charlotte’s not very good and they’ve been pretty bad the last two years in general injuries all that stuff the Hawks had not beaten the Hornets since December 16th 2022 so

About you know 16 months or so it’s been a long time as the Hawks beat the Hornets that all change tonight with I would say blowout fashion to be fair the Hawks he kind of back in fourth early in this game and then uh they broke it open

With a 23 to four run in the second quarter there was a little bit of a hiccup early in the third quarter of this game for Atlanta the lead was down to 10 in the third quarter but then uh blew them out entirely from that point forward in fact the entire fourth

Quarter basically was garbage time for the Hawks they were up huge and it only got bigger on the way to the 132 to 91 final score um just a little bit of context in this one we’ll come back to the injury stuff as far as the details

Later on in the show but the Hawks were missing four of their top eight players in this game they only had 10 active players including Dyan Windler who has not played much at all for Atlanta on a 2A contract um but and basically with that said the Hawks between that and the

Losses to Charlotte recently I got many many many questions about why the Hawks or how the Hawks were seven and a half Point favorites according to our friends at FanDuel in this game now of course of course after the game was over it seems like that was press of course but even

Then it did make some sense to me that the Hawks were notable favorites in this game because for one Charlotte’s also injured right now not as bad as Atlanta probably but no Mill and ball Mark Williams Cody Martin Seth Curry Bryce mcgall Etc they have some guys missing

Time also though Charlotte is really bad this year I’m not trying to be piling on but they’re two and 10 in the last 12 coming in now 2 and 11 in the last 13 um 1753 this year overall and uh they actually came into the night with the

NBA’s worst net rating which is also Point differential and it only got worse so you could argue that the the Hornets are the worst team in the league I I don’t know if i’ go that far but they certainly are in the bottom four or five

Of The League so all those all those six put together yes the Hawks were shorted in this game but they were at home they were on normal rest and they’re facing a team that is uh despite the previous results against Atlanta pretty bad and that is why the Hawks were favored in

This game but still Atlanta put together a heck of a performance on the whole uh I would say the overall numbers in this game are a little bit skewed because the fourth quarter was so lopsided it was kind of just over but still obviously excellent stuff from Atlanta throughout

This game a 143 offensive rating for the Hawks they scored at least 30 points in all four quarters it’s always nice when you when you actually shoot 20 of 42 from three-point range in this one that’s 48% on big volume and honestly if that’s all you knew about this game I

Could probably start the podcast right now and you would say the Hawks win this game a very very very large portion of the time when they shoot like that from three now that’s not the whole game but that was certainly a big part of it they’re also good inside the arc about

63% on twos in this game only nine turnovers that’s an excellent figure in any game especially one where you are shooting at um a super Elite level they didn’t get to the line a ton they didn’t offensive rebound a lot in this game but basically the shooting marks and the

Lack of turnovers made it to where they were dominant on offense all all the way through this game and again like Charlotte is a very poor defensive team they’re in the bottom tier League basically but aside from DeAndre Hunter basically everyone else shot well for Atlanta in this game the shot quality

Was good throughout the game they had six guys in double figures they had three guys with at least 20 points and how about this all 10 active players for the Hawks scored at least four points in this game headlined by and this is where things get even crazier than the actual final

Score Bruno Fernando and Garrison Matthews combined for 45 points in this game one more time Bruto Fernando and G come for 4 45 points in this game it was a career-high for Bruno Fernando in this game with 25 points and a season high for Garrison Matthews with 20 points by

A wide margin to have those guys both do that in the same game they were alongside of jont Mur was hot from three in this one it was a crazy impressive effort offensively for the Hawks from different places that you would would necess expect um everyone was very happy

For Bruno and Garrison obviously those guys have been sort of in and out of lineup etc etc but uh they had big games and essentially no one played poorly for Atlanta other than Hunters shooting was a little bit shaky but even then it was pretty impressive stuff um to the

Defense it was not quite as good defensively as it was offensively in this game but still did the job and more a 98 defensive rating in the game for Atlanta and same story here charlot’s pretty bad on offense in some ways but not this bad um I L with the three-point

Shooting with the offense with the Hawks going again 20 of 42 from three on offense it was the opposite for Charlotte in this one they were sorry they were 11 of 39 that’s 28% from three so that Gap alone the Hawks making nine more threes than the Hornets was

Probably responsible for the margin being 40 instead of 15 or 20 you know what I mean like obviously the Hawks would have won this game if they had normalized shooting based on the rest of the numbers but it got out of hand because three-point shooting was strongly in Atlanta’s favor in this one

They also forced 15 turnovers which isn’t a crazy high number but they led directly to 23 points and that will definitely help you on the whole so the Hawks if there was a weakness they didn’t rebound the ball super well in this game defensively but they did not

Lot of free throw attempts they they sort of good pressure all the way through and importantly for a team that has struggled in this area all year long they were really good in transition tonight defensively only allowed three fast break points and granted it is always easier to get back on defense

When you score almost every possession of the game so that’s a little bit of give and take there but still the offense was good the defense was good and those kinds those things often I should be more probably better about this in general offensive defense are somewhat correlated in the fact that if

You score at a high level the other team is taking the ball out of the rim and they’re walking up the floor If you defend at a high level your offense often gets easier buckets when you create turnovers Etc a little bit more transition play so it all kind of went

Into one mix tonight and yes the Hawks were supposed to quotequote supposed to win this game they were favored in the game but they also took it to the Hornets there was one little brief blip in the third quarter but essentially the last three quarters it was pretty

Dominant stuff and it was a impressive win through that L especially coming off of a kind of shaky one and4 road trip for Atlanta with this win the Hawks are now up by five and a half games on the Nets in the playin race for the 10 seed

Now I know some fans don’t care about this I understand why it’s not exactly a sexy topic to get into but the Hawks are huge favorites to make the playoffs sorry the postseason at this point in time making the play in honestly realistically the Hawks probably have to

Close the season like 2 and 10 to have the Nets have any chance the Nets are really really not playing well at all I got a question today from someone who was being serious and just basically asked are the Nets tanking and no they’re not tanking they’re just not

Very good and five and a half game lead with 12 games to play for Atlanta and 11 for and 11 for Brooklyn the net with the tiebreaker but still the Hawks are in control of that race ESPN um earlier today even before the the Hawks won gave

The Hawks like a 97% chance to make the play in I think it’s probably 98 99 now it’s not 100 it’s not 100 I’m very clear about that they’ve not clinched anything they’re capable of melting down here but they are huge favorites and honestly there is a world where the Hawks

Literally go 0 and2 and still make the plane because the Nets have to win a bunch of games and they haven’t really winning a lot of games in recent days so all that said they’re in good shape there in fact it’s way more likely at this moment after tonight’s games that

The Hawks get to the nine seed than it is that they actually fall out of the play because they’re only two and a half games behind the Bulls and they play the Bulls again later in the year now Chicago has a tiebreaker head-to-head because they beat the they beat the

Hawks twice already this year but it’s only even if you kind of take the pessimistic view they’re only three and a half games functionally behind the Bulls and with one of those games against Chicago like I think by far the most likely outcome is the Hawks entered

The playin with the 10 seed and they faced the Bulls as the nine seed in the first playing game that is probably what’s going to happen but probably not definitely so but just want to say this out loud it is more likely now that the Hawks are the nine seed

Than it is they actually fall out of the mix so if you’re gearing up from playing basketball it’s uh probably on the way in the near future but anyway that’s where things are the HW got a nice win tonight they’re now 31 and 39 in the

Then the Hornets had a nice little run in the first quarter a 14 to5 run by Charlotte the Hawks were playing pretty aggressively on defense like flying around had the big way on the floor and the Hornets actually got some good looks in the early going and had the lead very

Briefly in the first quarter um rotation wise all 10 guys who were active for Atlanta played in this game it was Garrison and Bruno as the first and most prominent Subs in this one um Bruno had a nice spin move and finished over over poku early in the game Garrison drew a

Three- shot foul ran out of the gate and they were off from there uh Trent Forest played as backup point guard as usual then West Matthews and also Dylan Windler played for only the second time in a hawky uniform uh ended up scoring pretty quickly in this game for his

First bucket as a hawk and uh there you go uh Trent Forest had a nice pick six steal at the end of the first quarter on Miles bridges for a nice bucket um that gave the Hawks a two-point lead but it was pretty slow paced and it was kind of

Back and forth in the first quarter before the Hawks actually ended up breaking the game open which happened pretty quickly so after Bruno started out hot making his first his first five shots he actually had a new career high um for points and a half 13 points end

Up having one for the the full game as well later on he played very well but the Hawks had their one big run in the first half it was a 23-4 run and that basically broke the game open and it stayed wide open the entire game so it

Went from a tie game early in the second quarter to a 19point lead late in the quarter the Hawks were red hot as a shooting team couple breaks on on defense you know doas Bon who is a great shooter for the Hornets missed three straight looks that were all pretty good

Looks from three but look the hwks just outplayed them in that stretch and that ended up taking control of the game and never giving it back um it’s a little bit level leveled off later in the half because other than capella had a nice little drive to the rim a good a good

Rim attack from him late late in the half but the a by 18 at halftime they were shooting the ball well good balance as they had the entire game Charlotte was cold from three and the Hawks had control there I mentioned before there was one little hiccup hook hicup I

Should say after halftime and it was essentially right out of that halftime break the hits actually made the first eight points of the third quarter and the Hawks missed their first six shots and suddenly it was a 10-point game and I was getting tweets about people being

Nervous and I understood why the Hawks have given lead some leads away this year there was a little bit of peril but immediately after a timeout by Quin Snider the Hawks score the next eight points a three by Bogi capella had a nice dunk and then A3 by V by v c and

After they missed their first six shots the Hawks made eight of their next 10 shots in including hitting five threes and when that was over they’re up 25 and the game was not over but it certainly ended up being over at that point in time it was never really close or

Competitive again um de jante had seven threes in the first three quarters that’s a season high for him um they were shooting the heck out of the ball and you know going to the fourth quarter they were already up by 25ish and then the fourth quarter I said before it

Really was almost entirely garbage time like there was not a single second in the fourth quarter where I thought this game was in any kind of danger at all um if the Hawks had had more guys available on the bench they would have gone deeper into the bench they didn’t

Really have a third a third unit to go to Bruno absolutely annihilated Grant Williams on a big dunk in the fourth quarter the bench was going nuts they were right to do so um Bruno you know was probably the big story of the game

In a lot of ways there was a lot of guys having fun with that um you know in theory did they have starters in probably a little bit too long yes but in contrast to previous games like they had no one to go to and then in the end

They end up eventually kind of had to bring Bruno back in but you don’t want to have guys even your deep bench guys play like huge swaps of time without stopping so um I didn’t think the Quinn did anything really wrong it just was a reminder that the Hawks have don’t

Really have any depth right now they’re just super banged up um V hit a wild step back three in the fourth quarter like it was smooth sailing from there the Hawks were up by as many as 41 and one by 41 points um again a little bit

Skewed in in the fourth quarter numbers wise but still it was already academic at that point in time so there weren’t a ton of like takeaways from that quarter um the Hawks kind of just put the foot on the gas Charlotte couldn’t make a shot really at all in the entire second

Half of this one and uh yeah I’ll leave it there for now because it was uh pretty much a one-sided Affair let’s just say in that third quarter um before I get to the actual player evaluation stuff on today’s podcast which is coming up in a second um just a refresher on

The injury situation and actually sort of an interesting situation that actually unfolded before the game so I’ll just say this now the Hawks did not have Trey Young Jay and Johnson sadique Bay Kobe buffkin AJ Griffin muhamd gay or Seth Lundy in this game and they were

All already going to be out no matter what they were already on the injur report Etc but the surprise on Friday into Saturday is that the Hawks listed Ana kongu as doubtful for the game on Friday night with what they were calling injury management after his toe injury

So if you missed this by some by some chance the kungu missed 13 games in a row in February and March then came back and play the last two games before tonight for Atlanta I’ll be it on a Min restriction Off the Bench um but it’s

More than a little bit strange to have a player listed with quote injury management after he played twice already and it’s not a back toback if it been if it have been a back to back tomorrow it would have been a very normal thing to have happened but my eyebrow was raised

So I actually asked Quin Snider pregame like what was going on with a Kong wo and without playing the audio for you Quinn I’ll just say that he declined to answer the question he didn’t really give any any indication he was kind of talking about how the Hawks already

Announced something they really haven’t announced anything over then they ruled him out for the game by then but um the injury management thing is a little bit odd um my antenna is up on this one I have to say and I will not be surprised

At all if he had some kind of recurrence of the injury um we’ll find out on Sunday or Monday about a Kong wo status for the next game Hawks do play on Monday but not till like poor cold water but that was a little bit of an interesting subplot because you do not

Usually see a guy have injury management quote unquote and have him be out for the next after he’s played two games in a row so hopefully it’s nothing hopefully he’s back on the floor on Monday but uh just keep an eye out for that and I’ll I’ll share that um sort of

On social media and patreon Etc in between now and that but that was kind of the only like weird filler thing that was not like about the game but certainly um he was list as doubtful so I was expec him to play but that little uh Nuance is interesting sort of for the

Future because obviously they played really well tonight Brew is really good but they clearly would like to have guys like Jaylen guys like Ana obviously Trey Young is the headliner those guys back by the end of the season but right now it’s a little bit of a question mark on

Uh not a lot not a ton of nuance but lots of positivity that’s a good thing um on the bench again all 10 guys that were active ended up playing Dylan Windler played a season High by a lot for the Hawks seven sorry 19 minutes for Dylan wiler Five Points four rebounds

Two assists and a steal looked fine made his first career bucket and then made another one later on one of four from three not a lot to add there was mostly garbage time minutes but some some some stuff that was competitive in the first half West Matthews at two threes Off the

Bench in 13 minutes six points four rebounds for Wes had two blocks in a steel he’s been looking a little bit better recently physically that’s good to see from him in a small role Trent Forest had four points and nine assists in 17 minutes of this game again a lot

Of that was in the fourth quarter but still Trent looked good um a nice steal on bridges that led to a dunk on the on the floor and generally speaking he did his job in a as a steady hand and a quality defense in this one and then you have Garrison

Matthews brto Fernando so I mentioned before they combin for 45 points that’s impressive on its on its own Garrison was a game best plus 31 in 27 minutes he had 20 points on two two from two four six from three four five at the three throw line three rebounds and two

Assists and here’s a crazy stat for you so Garrison had not reached double digits all year long he’s basically been in the rotation pretty much all season long like he’s played in 50 plus games for the Hawks this year and he’s only scored nine points was the max until

Tonight and he had 20 tonight but even then before that he scored either eight points or nine points in nine different games this year so he’s that’s kind of in his glass ceiling tonight he broke way through that he played really well um and yeah I like what I saw from him

He he was aggressive hunting his own shot getting to the line five times as impressive one of those was a three shot foul but he was uh very good Off the Bench still though probably the biggest story was Bruno Fernando a career high 25 points for Bruno on 11 to 14 from the

Floor and three or four from the free throw line six rebounds had a block shot plus 19 and I’ll just say this like Bruno talked to the media on the podium after the game which is a rare occurrence he kind of made fun of that in some respects but it’s been a long

And Winding Road he got a question about Angola he’s the first angolan player in the NBA he said he got like a 100 texts after the game like it’s a great story for Bruno to have a big moment like this um yeah it’s a game in it’s a game in

March in the NBA I get it not not a ton of people watching nationally but Bruno having kind of a huge game and like having multiple highlights career high in scoring in a blowout win um everybody loves Bruno I’ve said it before I’ll say it again now like everybody loves Bruno

On the team around the team in the league that I’m aware of he’s just a bright personality so it was a cool moment to see that Bruno was very happy about after the game as he should be he was he was fantastic and a career high

And you know that’s a game that he’ll remember for a long time I would imagine so a fun sort of subplot to this one uh to the starters in this game click capella 12 points 10 rebounds had a block shot had a couple of big dunks um he’s looked good in recent days

Obviously Bruno was a story at Center in this game but um Clint after that shaky start in February coming back from the injury looks like I’m not saying I won’t say his old self as far as like two years ago but he’s looking pretty good he’s been playing pretty well pretty

Good basketball in recent days and looking more physically capable than he was just a few weeks ago um Hunter was the one guy who didn’t make shots in this game he was one of eight from three um but still 11 points three assists he was fine he was just the only guy that

Didn’t like make every shot so there’s that um v c nine points on three threes he had four assists four rebounds good minutes plus 28 in this one for V good defense I thought across the board for v in this game the step back that he hit

Was a lot of fun to see uh that was a sort of a throwback uh monstrous um shot from beat um you know it was a lot of fun to be sure in this spot um by the way V was uh electric let’s just say as

Far as like he’s everybody loves V so there was a there was kind of a favorite on that um in general but uh yeah he was he was really good in this one and uh that was fun to see so from there um dejonte Murray had another huge game so

Deonte has been you know hot and cold at times with his jump shot but mostly hot in this game uh and sorry this season he has already surpassed his career high and three point shots he tied his season high and his career high I believe with

Seven threes in this game um 28 points 12 assists five steals seven rebounds for dejon he was very good in this one very economical very efficient um obviously he played fantastic so I credit him on I say this on Twitter tonight but I’ll say it again now credit to him for the documented

Increase in efficiency and his shot making overall this year like he has been really really good as a three-point shooter in a way that he was not always that was not always a strength of Jones and uh right now his progression there has been really really impressive

Um so credit to him for that first and foremost and then also credit to the Hawks and the staff for pushing him to take more threes like him taking more threes has allowed him to be more efficient overall and really sort of improved his overall Outlook like his

Off dble shooting catching shoot stuff he’s a much more effective offensive player right now because he has that shot so um another nice time for him across the board and then Bogi was the last guy that I haven’t mentioned yet 12 points six assists for bogy um three of

Six on twos two of four on threes and played very very well across the board uh you might notice if you’re watch on YouTube that I’ve lost my camera my apologies on that uh we’re on the secondary camera and I’m not going to stop recording at this point in time so

So anyway um from here the Hawks have a weird situation scheduling wise they played the Celtics twice this week Monday and Thursday they’re both home games they’ve already gone to Boston twice this year they played the Celtics twice obviously Boston is the best team in the league this year so that’s

Already tough sledding that’s not what that’s not what I’m bringing it up Boston’s staying in Atlanta they they have no games in between there so there’s a game Monday and a game Thursday and Boston is sticking staying in Atlanta the rest that that entire week contrast Haw at a game on Wednesday

Against Portland so one team it’s a series and they’re the one that’s on the road like is Boston gonna come to the game on Wednesday I don’t know but uh just a little bit of a quirk there not not a big deal the Hawks have a three- game

And four night stretch at home that also becomes a four and six at home so they’re very busy during this during this home stand but um obviously Portland’s the easier one out of those three games because Boston’s really good but they also are a little bit made up

Right now Drew holiday is hurt right now for Boston they had some injuries tonight keep an eye on that in advance of Monday but another 7:30 game at home for the Hawks in that one um and that’ll do it for today’s podcast so I’ll sign off now again my apologies on the camera

Yeah a fun night at the office for the Hawks a pretty Breezy night in general a blowout win have not not been a ton of those this year and in the end they slay the dragon that was the Hornets it is still crazy to me the Hawks lost for
