Have teams and they have formulas to make life harder other some teams have pretty much do anything just roll the ball out there and you’re G to beat the Pistons other teams you have to have a very very specific formula to make life tough to beat them and especially to

Blow them out and for Oklahoma City we’ve seen what that formula is it’s what Milwaukee can do and few other teams can do for starters you look at this game this was not the Thunder style of play this has been one of the most efficient teams and one of the best

Shooting teams in the league in this game they shot 23% from three the Thunder forced 16 turnovers however they turned it over 12 times themselves the Thunder were outrebounded by 20 rebounds the Thunder lost points in the paint by 26 they typically win that category they lost it by

26 the Thunder typically dominate fast break points they lost that by five the Thunder lost Second Chance points 21 to 13 but the end of the day the Thunder did not get to play their style they did not uh get to run and transition a ton and capitalize on Fast Break

Points they did not shoot lights out from three and they did not score inside the paint and so when you when you don’t play the way you’re designed to play of course you’re going to look bad and credit to the Bucks they did not allow them to get a step inside that

Paint much less score from there and the Bucks are one of the most you know athletic physically you know aggressive teams that you’re going to play who can ref you up and make life hard on guys like s to get to their spots but then also fly out and contest

Threes it’s the same formula as what you describe with LA and why the Lakers are a very tough matchup for the Thunder and one of their you I would say their toughest potential first round matchup is La you know then the purple and gold because of this very

Fact so this style of play and you know this Thunder team there is a concern about playing teams like this teams who have this unique blend of number one they can out physically they can be out physical you know more physical than you number two they’re of course going to

Dominate on the glass but in turn they’re not going to let you flip that as an advantage so here’s where they’re rebounding stuff like you’re going to look at this and just scream rebounding typically the Thunder lose the rebounding battle but they make up for it by deflections by steals by firing

Turn turnovers and getting out and running here’s the thing you can’t speed up a team like Milwaukee you just can’t they have a championship coach a championship franchise player and Dame Millard and you know Championship level depth like you know depth in the relative sense of like their complimentary pieces like guys like

Bobby poris guys like Lopez who have been there done that they’re not going to get sped up by this Thunder team so the Lakers another team that rarely you see has all the check marks of a team that is lengthy and physical a team that does not let you

Score inside a team that can spray out still and can tou threes and not give up wide open threes and a team that uh will rarely ever get sped up throw the ball all over the court because they’re led by a guy like LeBron James a guy like Anthony

Davis and on certain nights the Lakers have a combination of players who can knock down threes and so when whenever you’re collapsing on Anthony Davis whenever you’re giving attention to to you know LeBron James they can spray it out and capitalize on it same way with

Milwaukee so few teams can do all those things in the course of a game and the Thunder have beaten every team in the NBA that is considered a contender except Milwaukee this was their first shot at Milwaukee they’re now over for one they’ll have another shot coming up

Back in OKC here in a couple weeks so it’s not as though it’s impossible to beat teams like this that Thunder have in fact blown out La you know before you they’ve they’ve beaten Boston they have the season series over you know uh Denver they have the series uh season tie against

Minnesota so this style of play while not you know infallible it’s also produced a lot this year and it has came up big more often than not and so it comes down to the Thunder could not make threes the Thunder could not get to their spots could not score

Inside and in a championship you know in a in a star driven League your star to not play good at all today Chad Hol takes a step back as well and the bench takes a massive step back so you have a guy like Shay take a step

Back dramatic drop off from what his standards are a guy like Chad just did did not make a big impact in this game at all the shooters were not uh as good we’re talking about isah Joe and the whole bench of course did not show up

Very well so you mix all those things together you’re going to be hard pressed to be any team but specifically a team whose strengths completely line up and neutralize um your strengths so so they can kind of counterbalance each other there Milwaukee’s a tough matchup the Lakers are a tough matchup and you’re

Going to head to New Orleans and I think that this is what you should you know react too of that game against New Orleans now has a bit more pressure on to it because we’ve rarely seen the Thunder play this poorly they typically respond really well from it but here’s the kicker

You’re not going to have to respond to this game by playing the Hornets right you’re G to get to respond to this game by taking on a team like New Orleans where you can kind of implement these lessons right away and so even though it’s on the road

Even though it’s the last game of a road trip even though it’s the first night of a back toback none of that matters you have to go out against New Orleans I think and play a really good basketball game because you want to show how you can adjust to this style of

Play whenever you go and take on Zion and a physical New Orleans team whenever they have Zion and they have yonas in there herb Jones has been one of the best defenders in the NBA period but also in in a subcategory of one of the best players to defend SGA he’s been

One of the best matchups for SGA so go and see what that looks like against New Orleans go make the adjustments against the Pelicans that that’s a massive game this week but in the entire grand scheme of things I think you should take a step back and realize that these nights

Happen first and foremost and they rarely happen to Oklahoma City Milwaukee is a fantastic basketball team and the Thunder do have a formula that can get them beat just like every other team but few teams truly piece together that formula very well Milwaukee is just one of those

Teams so I think that that all mattered in a game where it was supposed to be like just this incredible game because both teams are fully healthy both teams top of their conference uh it was a very fun first half second half Slipped Away in a big

Way and the Thunder have a chance to respond like that’s that’s the most interesting part of all this to me it’s because a schedule lines up where you can respond against a likeminded team in New Orleans in the sense of they can play closer to that Milwaukee style

Moving forward and I think that the bottom line is it’s three games so the three games heading into this game so now it’s four but the three games before this game Shay’s averaging 24 points five boards six assists and three stocks per game shooting 50 30 66 and only for

Shay is that considered a bad stretch because of what you’re used to because of what he’s made you used to by how good he is then it leads into this game where he has 12 points three boards two assists three Steals and a block he shoots 41% from the floor not good for

Him 0 for three from three and only two for three at the line but because again the Bucks did a great job of keeping SGA out of the paint and and what I think it is when you you really take a step back and like break it all down number one uh

The Thunder are three in one in these four games that’s most important uh you know the Utah game it was just a fine game in the sense of like there was there was no reason to um you know have a have a tremendous performance or overexert yourself in any way Memphis the same

Way and these last two Toronto and Milwaukee Toronto crowded him and forced him to get the ball out of his hands he made the right reads his teammates cashed in and it looks a lot better because you won but Toronto Shay did everything right like there was nothing about that

Game against Toronto that you can really have much of a gripe with he handled their coverage well they blitzed him off every screen and they and they forced him to not be the one to beat them and his teammates came through and against Milwaukee they just have the guys to throw a

Sh don’t let him in the paint don’t let him to his certain areas in the in the mid-range like at the ybo seamlessly that mid- Baseline area don’t let him cook in those spaces and you throw extra bodies at him and a team like Milwaukee is able to get

Away with it because number one the Thunder the Thunder did miss some clean thees but they also even while you throw an extra extra body at Shay had to take some contested thre because of the spacing uh being what it is because the Bucks are so long and able to to get out

And U and contest at the three-point line but the bucks made Shay play in a crowd all night he had to settle for tough shots and the Bucks were just very physical so I think that that can be just the end of it I think that the end

Of it can be this is an extremely small sample size that people are freaking out to two of those games were worthless opponents no offense to you know Utah and Memphis Toronto shaded everything right you know and just and just had to to play that style of basketball because of

What the game Flow dictated and against Milwaukee he could have he could have stood to be more aggressive I guess you could say but there’s not much you can do against that kind of coverage that the Bucks were giving him now I will say that he did you know

Bang knees SL thighs a few games ago um and hasn’t taken time off since then uh so I’m sure he’s bumped he’s you know bumped and bruised up like everyone is this time of year I think that this is something where if you look back five games you

Now get to include that Dallas game where where he was lights out on the stretch and the and the Thunder were able to escape that game against Dallas you know and blow them out toward the end so again it’s small sample size stuff and I think that we have a much

Larger sample size of Shay being an MVP caliber player um than not the big key is going to be if it is fatigue if it is you know some sort of underlying issue finding spots for him to gain rest here’s the kicker though here’s the here’s the here’s the good

Part you have an entire week off heading into the postseason that game against Dallas might not mean anything on the final Sunday of the regular season at least not for the Thunder they might be locked into their site to their seed and if that’s the case you

Obviously don’t play Shay just like they did in last last season finale you don’t play Shay he has a literal seven days off uh as if they get the game on Sunday if they get the game on Saturday he has six days off uh in in

Between um you know you know the end of the season and the uh and the start of the postseason and game one of the postseason at home so it’s all going to be fine in in general but it also just another example of another reason not to freak out about this game against

Milwaukee it’s not as though shaded everything he could and had a had a 30-point game and he got blown out right you’re star at 12 points Chad hren made one field goal attempt the game sometimes is that simple you’re not going to beat a team when Shay scores 12 points and and Chad

Scores six you’re just not and of course the Bucks deserve credit for forcing that to happen but this was nowhere near either one of those guys um typical level and chat went 0 for five we’ve seen him go three for five we’ve seen him go four for five from three like

We’ve seen him shoot much better and those things add up in the Long Haul so Shay didn’t get to 31 tonight he got to 12 and the Thunder got blown out I think that um it’s interesting these last four games but I don’t think it’s

Any reason to Panic or to think that uh anything’s gone ay I I think that it’s just a case of a couple uninspired opponents maybe this thing may this KNE thigh bump of course can’t feel good but you kind of have to still remain confident or uh remain you know

Eager about the postseason because number one if it is a fatigue slash physical thing sh gets a whole week off and number two if this is the Kryptonite for the Thunder a Milwaukee box you’re not going to play them until the NBA Finals so don’t even worry about the Milwaukee box

If your Kryptonite is the LA Lakers I think that the Lakers you know are a lesser version of the Bucks in the sense of you can beat the Lakers it’s going to take seven games like I think that right now if the the postseason draws out this way and it’s

And it’s Thunder vers Lakers I would I would pick the thunder in seven games and it’d be a grueling seven games but still even after this bout loss where everybody uh you know might want to be a little a little hostile it’s still anyone’s Western Conference the Thunder can still beat

Anybody except for when Shay scores 12 like and and that’s just a no duh thing joic can’t go score six Jamal Murray can’t go score 10 and expect the Nuggets to win Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown can’t go out there you know and and combine for you know 20

Points it’s a star driven League two of your guys didn’t show you know in their typical sense I’m not too concerned at all about what’s happening I think that part of this ties into what we talked about all year long after these losses a vast majority especially of the

Local fan base of the Thunder they are football oriented football minded football is their first sport and and the sport they care about most and so they want to react game to game and they want to react um you know in the moment and think that like this loss is just

Some dooming thing because you’re precondition in football especially college football like a loss does end your season you know a blowout loss especially in your season that’s not the case in the NBA this can be a multitude of things and there is some concern about like when

You play a team like Milwaukee or the Lakers your life gets incredibly hard and and you might be you know if you don’t have a hot shooting night let’s say you let’s say against either one of these two teams like like your bench and your Shooters like let’s say Cas Joe

Wiggins um you know dor let’s say that these guys don’t shoot well from three in those series then yeah you’re not going to you’re not going to compete with these teams because you’re going to need that to happen plus you’re going to need your stars to play well but that’s

Not relevator like any team in the NBA is going to head into their postseason series saying need the shooters to shoot well need the Stars to play well that that’s the simple formula for most teams in the NBA and the the the only concerning part is what happens in the

Postseason when the game slows down when the teams get better and when you can’t speed up teams and catch them off guard and fluster them cuz the Bucks are not going to get flustered you know Dame Giannis you switch on them you Crow them whenever they drive and swum they’re

They’re not going to get flustered and out of whack LeBron ad they’re not going to get flustered and out of whack so where do you find your new advantage in that case but yes I mean now now once you add in this fourth game that the stats will

Even go further down for Shay you know away from the the Great Heights he’s typically at but I would not draw from you a ton from this I think that he can easily go out there against New Orleans and put up 30 on 50% shooting uh and lead the Thunder 20 win

Easily because that’s how good he is I think that you know the game against New Orleans number one matters just for the Thunder to get another data point on playing a team that can that can play a similar style to La uh and and to that form we’ve been talking

About all all day but also it’s a big game because I think that the MVP is on the line against New Orleans like like this has been a um you know quote unquote bad three- game stretch in the relative sense of what MVPs typically do the games only get bigger from here

It’s like you still are not completely out of the MVP race if you go out there and dominate New Orleans and you just have a rip roaring into the season you dominate New Orleans you beat Boston you beat Milwaukee on this on the second chance you get to play him uh you beat

Dallas 10 the year if if you need that game if that game’s important like this this narrative can quickly flip in two weeks but you got against New Orleans and you have another clunker or another game where it’s like Ah that’s not a typical Shay game things can change in the opposite

Direction in har as it’s increasingly based upon the Vegas odds which typically are not wrong and based upon some national Outlets it’s already kind of skewing toward yic you need another game to Dr everybody back and that’s New Orleans on uh Tuesday we’ll talk is MVP

From Josh giddy was a Miss but he’s running down the floor hard in transition SJ gets in the ball giddy takes one dribble and goes right up at The Rim he missed the shot but that is a that is the exact right decision from Josh giddy with a bad result but it was

The right decision that you want to see him do every single time so it’s in there like the the decision making in the processing the reason why that was my favorite play even though it was a Miss was that you you’ve seen from game one all the way through whatever game

This is you know 6870 whatever we’re at you know you’ve seen his decision- making improve him his understanding of what’s being required of him improved his aggressiveness improved which I think can be tied to confidence can be tied to uh you know just an overall conviction of what he’s

Doing on the court and it happened on that play even though he missed like that was a play where you’re screaming yes the whole time until the ball goes out of the basket and you do that you make the right decisions and eventually the tide

Will turn for you on the results and in this game you know he had great results across the board except for that you know play but you know that’s a play where that play you you play that play out 99% of the time he’s going to make

That shot he’s going to make that layup at the RAM and it’s going to be awesome he missed it this time but that doesn’t take away from how good of a play it was in in the broader sense he had a nice bucket under the basket he had a great

Dirk fade he had a great lob to chat uh and he hit his threes which which were huge and and I think that again to go back to and flip and flip the process over results it wasn’t that he made his threes the four threes were great you

Know four for six from is great Josh gidd is not going to routinely hit four for six from three what was you know the great part about it was that these were no brainer no thought process thre in a good way no no thought thought process

In a good way the ball gets swung to him he hits it you know he he just pulls the three ball and it goes in this game you know and and that is kind of more varied and and a little bit more out of your

Control if they go in or out but what is totally in your control is making the right decision with the ball in your hands he did that in this game especially the six threes and some of those threes you there was a guy near him it wasn’t as though that it wasn’t

As though the Bucks were playing him in a dramatically uh off way like like it was not a game where he was being defended at the low block while he’s in the corner three he had a guy in his face multiple times and hit threes so

You like to see that bravado in that confidence in shooting that corner three it happened to go in today which is going to be why most people celebrate it but also independent of them going in I think that that was a good decision uh from Josh kidy one for one at the line

58% from the floor 19 points nine boards eight assists only one turnover all around good game from Josh Kitty I thought he bounced around on the glass really well you know getting in and out of the RAM on both ends of the floor uh to not limit them in either

Direction I think that he was really engaged defensively which didn’t show up a ton because even even an assembly line of the best defenders in the NBA being engaged against the Bucks is going to have a hard time and against especially uh but he did the right things it’s just

Sometimes there’s nothing you can do about guys like Giannis and guys like Dame but especially Giannis in this game uh getting downhill you can rotate you know all you want to it’s not going to really matter which isn’t which is not a Josh giddy flaw he did he was in the

Right spots defensively is what I’m trying to say and offensively we’ve we’ve gone over how he looked much more in control much more confident and just much better so I think this was a really good game from Josh gidy I think that with jayen Williams the 18 points three

Boards four assists a steal 53% from the floor was all great we continue on this show we’ve talked about this from from October till now and that’s it’s job’s physicality and that physicality I think embodies why I feel so confident in JB as a playoff player even though he’s

Never done it so a lot of people want to take a wait and see approach I get that but it’s the pathway to these buckets with such physicality which is the exact way you have to get it done in the postseason and and to hear hear him say that

Himself which is what we’ve been harping on this whole year on locktown Thunder but I’m just a guy with the podcast so I asked him about his physicality and getting to a spots and he told me after the game that uh that was entirely by Design This Summer of understanding that

In the playoffs the physicality ratchets up and you have to be able to get to your spots and he worked on that all summer with the playoffs in mind I think you saw that that shot over Giannis that shot over Yiannis you saw all of that be

Poured out onto one play of that’s what playoff basketball looks like on the road against an elite player like Giannis can you rise up over them and get and get to your spot and hit your shot jayb can so that’s was another bright nugget in this otherwise blowout bad

Game and we’ll talk about isah Joe More on tomorrow’s show because I’m sure that now the mailbag will include a lot more isah Joe questions but to wrap up today’s show I say Joe has to start hitting his shots and if he starts hitting his shots everything about this third team feels

Different this game goes a different way their flow on offense feels different Everything feels different but when you’re when your best shooter shooting 27% from three in March you know you’re going to struggle and you’re going to have games like this where he’s not hitting Shay’s not

Playing at a at a a great Pace right now and a great uh at his normal level I should say in this specific game he’s not so so it turns in spirals quickly I will say again I don’t want to continue to sound like a broken record about not

Overreacting but I think it’s so important that a lot of these overreactions like you got to contextualize them and look at the fact that last year Isaiah Joe in March same month had his worst three-point shooting month of the season now he shot 31% which is which is better than 27%

Granted he still has a few games to turn around in March but you know he shot 31% from three in March last year and otherwise he shot over over 40 so maybe he’s just not a March guy and we’ve all been there we all have months where we’re just not

Ourselves so I say that as in I saw some people concerned about Isaiah Jo like long term like oh is he no longer a good shooter this is the same song and dance as last year different verse same as the first every Sharpshooter every Elite shooter goes

Through a stretch like this they just do and so he’s going through it now in March uh just as he did last year and and obviously this is no surprise or no secret you need Isaiah Joe to shoot the ball exceptionally well to win games because he’s one of your best step

Players but in a season that’s gone eily similar to last year where we shot uh last year 41 40% from three he’s now shooting 40% from three again this year both seasons had bad marches hopefully he can break back out in April uh and and however much longer past

April the Thunder get to play this year uh in a big way but I would not be too concerned with Isaiah Joe and with uh you know his his poor shooting night again it happened again today uh two for four from three was 50% for him which is

Good in a vacuum but like he only played eight minutes and so this is a more broader point of like with Isaiah Joe you’re going to want to shoot the ball more more and make more this game two for four is good but you only needed eight minutes of

Action you typically going to play him a lot more other than a blowout so Isaiah Joe not shooting W from three this this month I don’t think it’s that big of a deal because we saw it already we’ve seen this from him Gordon Hayward was

Not good in this game but few were good in this game we’ve kind of ran through the Gambit of who all played well in this game already jdub and Josh it’s about it that’s a found it so the Thunder will regroup much like we will on tomorrow’s show uh so send in your
