Stephon Castle is a 6’6″, 215lb combo guard, currently playing on 1st seed UConn in March Madness.

Castle is a 2 way guard that uses his strength and length to get to his spots on offense, and fight over screens and stay in front of his man on defense.

Currently he is averaging 11/4/3 on 47/28/76 shooting splits. Is 3PT% doesn’t look good, but his FT shooting and touch around the rim may indicate that he can improve upon his poor shooting performance this year.

Despite shooting the ball poorly from 3, he has embraced a very different role on this UConn team than he had in high school. Playing as his Highschools PG, and transitioning to a more off ball role as a combo guard. He’s adapted well and has helped UConn throughout the season and into the 3rd round of March Madness.

I think at this moment he could still play as a PG in the NBA if given the reps. At the least he is a two way combo guard that can use his strength and length to guard 1-3 and can be a secondary playmaker.

At this point should only be considered if he fell to the second first round pick from the Clippers.

  3. As a UConn fan I would love to see him fall to the 2nd pick in the 1st. Has an opportunity to put himself in the top 15 conversation depending on how the tourney goes.

  4. Draft him and give him Deni’s shooting coach. Good luck to guards trying to score on Bilal and Castle.

  5. He has good footwork but he’s not beating anyone off the dribble in college. The lack of speed or shooting prevent me from putting him that high in the draft. Great defender, just don’t think he will be an elite guard at the next level.

If we’re taking a guard please god let it be one that can shoot lol.

If we take another prospect whose shot is (at best) a WIP I’m gonna have a joker moment.

Note: If we take Sarr I don’t care as much about him not being an offensive threat immediately.

There is so much to like about his game. I think he has upside thru the roof. He’s playing within a well-structured system in UConn, and I don’t think we’re seeing what he’s fully capable of. In playing under Hurley, I think he’s going to come in Day 1 and be a contributor to whatever team that drafts him. Of course there are some question marks regarding his game, but that goes along the lines of just about every prospect talked about as a lottery selection in the ’24 draft. With no sure bet as a prospect, I wouldn’t mind the Wizards taking a swing at him with their first FRP this year.

You only draft him high if you think he can play pg, which I’m not sold on. Kind of reminds me of Talen Horton Tucker‘s situation with the Lakers where people were so excited about him because he could run the pick and roll well. But he couldn’t shoot and wasn’t good enough to warrant having the ball in his hands and so his value then just plummeted.

worried that he has the cam reddish syndrome. for a guy that relies on getting to the basket he’s really not that explosive or beats his man to the cup.
