They still need some work in the back the back court yeah for sure and you know like I know everyone gets excited about Jonathan Isaac coming out playing so well but he played like like 22 minutes and he’s aaging six points a game on the season and like he would be
A great he’s a great story because he’s found his way back but uh but still just like limited yeah I’m with you even the the France vogner thing like I I kind of get that that man I want more can I get more yeah but Pao is so similar to Carmelo
Anthony it’s it’s crazy to me I mean I mean he’s shooting 46.6% from the field like that’s crazy to me that means he’s taking a lot of bad shots and fron fer 29% from three I feel specifically he wouldit a lot from leg legate that can run so much every time

But again like look at the overall record like the Kings have what they’re four out of the last five games like they are they’re doing things okay or they’re three out of the last four yeah like they are still on the hunt they’re still right there and I don’t know it it
Feels like you would Tak you would have taken a two inone trip yeah and you probably would have said the loss is in Orlando and it was always the coin flip game yeah and so if I had to but if I had told you hey they’re going to go two
In one I know for a fact they’re going two and one you’d have been like oh okay they dropped the game in Orlando third third third game of the trip yeah that’s fine that the Washington lost is just is just so is such an oddity to me yeah but
The good news is out of out of that loss they came in and bounced back and played really well and and I thought that was a a really kind of gritty performance that was there were multiple times I thought they were going to let go of the rope
And lose that game and they battled back and Keegan Murray was really really good from Beyond The Arc dearen Fox when he’s leading the way you’re going to be in a pretty good spot they overcame Malik monk going 0 for 11 from the field shocking it was just a they scored seven
Points bench points seven points Off the Bench that’s wild and they they figured out a way to win yeah that’s just a kind of a gutsy gutsy low performance against a team that’s in the same kind of tier as you if not uh just a little little Le
Behind a year behind I think where the kings are maybe two yeah they’re in the same tier though I mean they’re both one’s 41 and 29 and one’s 42 and 29 yeah same tier but uh the western conference is more difficult Katie Christensen on the TV broadcast made a really good
Point that and I and I I agree with this wholeheartedly the magic are very much built to compete in the East like they are built to box with the New York Knicks or the Boston Celtics or the Milwaukee Bucks or whoever it is they’re built a box with them for seven games
Maybe they’re not going to be super skilled and maybe jayen Suggs isn’t going to average 30 and maybe Cole Anthony is not going to average 30 but a they are going to be physical they are going to be tough and they’re just going to be hard to beat in seven four times
Out of seven games yeah I can see that I also think that you know the better teams in the in the west also have th those same sort of Tendencies and and so you know when we’re talking that long athletic physical build I mean we’re talking about the Clippers we’re talking
About the Pelicans you know those are the teams that you kind of have to compete with so um they’re not as well I mean when you throw Jonathan Isaac out there they they are big but the rest of them you know again like when uh Carter

What to make of this Sixers team uh can I pause and talk about the Warriors for 30 seconds yeah I don’t want to do a deep dive on on the problems of the Golden State Warriors but here’s where I’m at if you don’t know me I’m from the
Bay Area grow up a Warriors fan uh love the Kings though I have so much love for for that team in in the city so uh I’m at the point now where I would rather the Warriors miss the play and then make it really I don’t want to watch any more of this
Team I don’t want to watch them anymore is playing tap is playing the just not like they’re Steph is obviously still incredible but they’re trying to run like Draymond has has declined as a player enough to the point that it’s it’s a non-factor offensively uh Klay
Thompson is is has always been a little bit streaky but I mean I just don’t every time he puts a shot up I don’t think it’s going in anymore Andrew Wiggins is just Andrew Wiggins the playoff run in 22 was the anomaly they’re never getting that player back
He is what he is this year and and most of last year he was just the player that he was his entire career in Minnesota and they’re just not built they’re they were on a two timeline track and fell in the middle of the timelines and now they have nothing mhm
They didn’t develop their young guys last year so Jonathan kaminga isn’t ready contribute in meaningful ways this year okay he’s got he’s averaged 20 for the last two months or whatever okay fine what else couldn’t even get on the floor at the end of the game last night
Because he couldn’t figure out what he was doing defensively so it just they they are they are not good I don’t want to have to watch them I would so much rather they miss the play in and have to punt everything than lose to the Lakers again let the Rockets let the Rockets

Impressive part to me is it was CJ McCollum in that game against the Heat and then the next night at Detroit it was a lot of Zion Williamson like they’re finding different players to kind of pick up this slack and if they’re going to get good performances
From those two and then you get you sprinkle in some herb Jones Jose Alvarado had a big game in one of those games I think go against Detroit uh you sprinkle in some Trey Murphy now all of a sudden you have a team that’s capable of winning even without its best scorer
And that is extra scary to me yeah I mean this team has has really really good depth you know it’s they’ve built the team the right way and every time they’re kind of that team that every time someone falls in the draft like H I don’t know really that matters and then
Whoever they draft ends up being relatively good and you know they’re still they have a couple of pieces that are missing and they need to get better at a couple of spots but I really like who they are you know they probably don’t need the big Center they probably
Need to go with more of a shop Locker than they than they currently have that would probably help them take one more step which is something they tried to address at the trade deadline MH but uh for right now I mean valent chunis is a is a good player and like against the
Kings again we always see teams like this they roll the Kings right for whatever reason the matchups are bad whatever valent chunis though also plays extremely well against the Kings and that’s a lot because him and and sabonis know each other extremely well from their time with the Lithuanian national
Team and so you’re getting to see a much better version of him than a lot of other teams do around the league so on the season he’s averaging 12 and a half points 9.2 rebounds you know but against the Kings he looks like a world beater
And that’s just it’s part of that that sort of you know Big Brother little brother thing that they have from the national team yeah it felt it felt like that’s one of the disappointing things with Zan you talk about a shop blocker it looked like he was going to be that player def

That much and you have them once so you pick up a win against them and you split the season series there’s potential there campaign had 23 points for Philly that doesn’t make any sense five of 10 from three although he’s done that against the kings that sideways three shot
Campaign’s not a bad player but still you’d expect 23 from campaign against the Clippers like come on man he’s another player the Kings really really liked you know he’s a guy that they were uh they were very intrigued by multiple occasions but he had a lot of foot
Injuries as a young player and it really cost him you know sort of being a starter in the league um all right I want to talk about the top of the West briefly okay is this before we do that though I want to throw
A pin in that I’m looking at one of your notes Here is it right that the kings are now fourth in the NBA in net rating uh there’s no way that’s no no no no no that that’s wrong that’s wrong okay um that’s probably 14th okay that
That makes way more sense yeah yeah no I I took some notes so yeah you know we talked about this pre- allstar game the Kings offense had a 11 16.6 rating they’re 14th in the league since Allstar break they’re at 11 16.4 so they’re not they’re they’re basically the same but
That’s moved all the way up to ninth like so the while the rest of the league has struggled with this new physicality and the new the way games are being called since the All-Star break the Kings haven’t even though they’re not shooting all that well um but at the
Same time during that stretch pre- Allstar break the Kings defensive rating is 11 16.6 they’re 18th in the NBA pre-all-star break they are 11th in after the All-Star break at 111.6 so they’ve shaved like four and a half points off their defensive rating and that’s incredible so right now the
Kings are seventh in net rating um since the All-Star break at at a plus 4.8 man which is great and really good the reason why I did this Kyle is because there’s this thing Mike Mike Brown kept talking about can I real quick real quick quick just for reference the plus
4.8 what that means the Denver Nuggets are plus 4.7 for the season okay so plus 4.8 is a very very good number yeah your net rating your offensive rating minus your defensive rating equals your net rating right and plus 4.8 is a is a strong number continue yeah yeah yeah no
That’s okay um yeah and and so when we when I looked at these numbers and I’m starting to like digest and say okay why is it that that all of this is happening um Mike Brown talked about something coming out of the allar break and he
Just said look if we could just be League average at defending the three-point shot we would be like number eight in defensive rating just League average like we don’t have to be great right just get us in the ballpark since the allar break so pre- Allstar break the kings were allowing their opponents
To shoot 39.7% from three M on 34 possessions per game and that’s over 50 g 54 game stretch right so 39.7 so 40% from three yeah on 34 attempts per game right since the allstar break 36.3% much better on 32 attempts per game much better so not only have they
Shaved like three and a half% off of the their opponent’s three-o percentage but they’ve been able to cut their their attempts by two as well yeah that just tells you they’re playing much better closing out running people off the line yeah and so if they shot 36.3% on the SE
Season that would be 11th best in the NBA that’s great no 13th best I’m sorry 13th best in the NBA so that shows you that there is potential here for them to get better and they have actually done exactly what Mike Brown asked him to do yeah they they’re
Hitting their free throws at a higher clip yep they are not getting to the free throw line more which is what he had hoped but that’s a League wide issue right but they are hitting at a higher clip and starting to raise their their free throw percentage m and we’re
Starting to see a team who was like 30th in three-point defense and it wasn’t even close they’re still 29th but the fact that they aren’t last anymore yeah is because they’ve shaved a whole bunch off like almost a full percent off of their season defensive three-point percentage that’s good man I don’t think
It’s a coincidence that it coincides with Keon Ellis playing more no Keon Ellis is a remarkable defender on the perimeter very good and what well and we talked about it so often with with the Kings this year was man they need like one guy to be that dude on defense inste
A tone that everybody else follows and it feels like Keon Ellis is that and I don’t I don’t think it’s a coincidence that all of a sudden hey you’re seeing better Closeouts and you’re seeing more aggressive defense and I think the the rest swallowing whistles helps a little
Bit but part of it was just effort and just doing the things correctly Mike Brown talked about all the time you want to close out like this you want to you want to guard guys like this and and you want to do this they’re just doing it now or at
Least it see it seems it seems as such I I will say the game against the Bucks I think the Bucks went wiy had the had the stats wiy stats.com I think they were three of 11 on wide openen threes three of 18 something they they just they had
Open looks and and didn’t knock them down but that was that game that I haven’t felt that in any other of these stretches I think it’s just they’re playing better defense well that and I think what you have to look at too is when you hear that three of 11 or
Whatever against wideopen threes right that doesn’t mean that like some of those weren’t intentional by the Kings like it’s possible that you’re double teaming Giannis s Dumbo and it’s possible that you’re double teaming Damen Lillard or throwing a second body at him at least temporarily like uh you
Know and so the guys who are shooting those open threes they might not be the quote unquote hot guys they might not be the guys that I mean that you want taking those three so if Giannis took one of those threes okay you know and
That team has a lot of good players a lot of good three-point Shooters so like Bobby Porter Miss some open threes in the corner Pat conon hit uh Malik Beasley is ninth in the league in three-point percentage this year and he had multiple open three yeah but to your
Point uh when you’re leaving Giannis wide open you’re doing that on purpose well that you have to pick your poison though like you have to you have to send a second person at Giannis you’ve got to send a second body at at Damen Lillard and the Kings dared the other bucks
Players to beat them and they couldn’t yep and so you’re right but at the same time you know there is a reason why you have that many wide openen threes it’s not that you intentionally want to leave guys wide open from three all the time but it’s because you’re sending extra
Bodies at two superstars sure yeah uh for the season 15th and defensive rating that would tie with Denver last year for worst defensive rating by an NBA champion since 200201 okay uh but last year Denver finished fifth in offensive ra there’s a requisite level of success
You need to have on each end of the floor that the Kings have not quite reached yet but I will say this I don’t I’m not how do I get her hang on um I’m not in the in the boat that I’m not all of a
Sudden like oh yeah hey they can win a title this year I see the path I don’t like you look we were talking we were talking about net rating do you know what Boston’s net rating is right now uh I do cuz I’m on the page but go ahead 12
A plus 12 a plus 12 12 they are beating teams by an average of 12 points a game or per 100 possessions I mean and same OKC is 7.8 that’s super high they’re like a 119 offensive rating with a 111 defensive rating I mean come on man yeah
There’s a lot so anyways um I don’t I don’t think the Kings going win the title but with the way they’ve played defense in the second half of this year it is way easier for me to draw a path where they are doing more than just like yeah they might survive a first
Round playoff series and then get smoked in the second round now all of a sudden it’s like hey man I have a belief that they have a lineup that can credibly get stops M and also score like that’s that’s the problem a lot of a lot of teams have we were talking about
Golden State earlier golden state has a lineup they they ran it out yesterday it was nuts it is all Defenders who can’t like Andrew wiggin’s the best offenseive player in the lineup it’s like Draymond and gp2 and Jonathan kaminga and Andrew Wiggins and uh uh someone else but that offense that
That team can’t function offensively the Kings have a lineup with like dear Fox Malik monk Keegan Murray Keon Ellis and deonis sabonis that can get stops and go score kind of at will and when you have that lineup in a playoff series I feel so much better about that and I feel so
Much better now about the king’s ability to get a stop or two or three or four stops down the stretch of a game I feel better about that now than I did six weeks ago and that could be everything in a first or second round playoff
Series where now if you came into came from the like yeah hey the Kings won two playoff series without any like crazy injuries or anything like that I wouldn’t be floored by it yeah I wouldn’t either I think it’s it’s just different you you add one piece to the puzzle and it changes
Everything sure and I think over the next 12 games what the Kings really need to work on is establishing that Keon Ellis can hit the wide open shot for teams to guard it yeah it forces teams to guard him now if they don’t it might be okay cuz Keon Ellis might hit that
Shot and if you want to leave him open that’s fine because he’s you know again he shot 40% at the G League level last year so it’s not like he can’t shoot it so I kind of I’m intrigued to see how that works I’m intrigued to see if the
Kings can develop a personality for Ellis on the offensive end over the final 12 games of the season because what we saw in the last game where he puts up 19 what I don’t want to see is him go back to Four Points a game and he
Doesn’t have to average 19 but if he could average 10 or if he can average 11 or 12 and hit wide open looks okay now you got to defend him and that’s something that you know will make you more potent in the playoffs what is he shooting let’s see since we’ll do since
March one uh since March one he is shooting 44% from three on 3.3 attempts a game like that’s going to do it dude even if he regresses a little bit if he hits 37 plus per. teams have to guard him now in ways that they didn’t have to guard Davon
Mitchell yeah like that’s why Davon everybody you know I I did it too like hey why didn’t Davon Mitchell play more in game seven because it was forcing the Kings to play five on four offensively yeah and that’s I I don’t think that’s the case with with Keon and
I I mean maybe I’m maybe I’m just dramatically overthinking this but I you just one for two three for five 0 for one one for two three for five one for two one for two two for five like it’s just it’s not a ton of volume but it’s
He’s hitting it frequently enough that man that’s a I I not that Keon Ellis is some Allstar or some all-nba guy or anything like that but with the formula of what this Kings team needed it’s like adding him to the mix just changes everything yeah as a starter he has to
Shoot the three because let’s be honest he’s not doing a lot of other offensive things sure I mean the step back three was totally shocking like what in the world was that bananas they might not have given him a three on that I I don’t
Believe that they did we we think of it but I he should have been five of five of eight and he ended up four of seven and and I believe they they changed that two a two but either way like what he was able to do was very very impressive
And like look it’s on him to keep growing and and it’s on his teammates to keep bringing him along this is kind of interesting he’s shooting 30.6% as a starter and 4 3.2% as a reserve H that’s kind of fascinating he’ll get more comfortable though and you got to
Remember same usage he’s only started nine games right but it’s nine games over again we went through this he started what two in November one in December three now he’s up to whatever five in March whatever it is U yeah we have this other crazy thing that happened um the Kings guaranteed
Themselves a 500 season they won their 41st game on Saturday and uh I’m sure we’ll get into this a little bit more but this is only the 10th time in 39 years in Sacramento that the Kings have posted a 500 or better record yeah 10th time total and eight of
Those were Rick Adelman and the last two were Mike Brown man like what Mike Brown has been able to do to change the culture here in Sacramento um I hope that that people above him are appreciating what he’s been able to accomplish sure because this has been like a wasteland forever
And even when the Kings made the playoffs in 1985 86 or they made it in 95 996 season those weren’t 500 Seasons they they never reached 500 so it really is uh crazy crazy that he’s been able to get to this point and it’s not like he stepped into a kind

In a guy like Kevin Harter to bring along a a a draft pick like Keegan Murray last year to have all of these pieces thrown in the pot in one season even Trey Lyles had had come over at the trade deadline the year before right so you basically Mike Brown inherited a
Team that was was pretty much just three players that had played the year together the year before and fox Barnes and Davon Mitchell and Mitchell is a rookie you put all those pieces together and you go into a year with a bunch of new players sabonis Lyles you know
Herder monk uh and Murray that’s your rotation those eight players are basically your rotation to walk into that year and post the highest offensive rating in the the history of the NBA is absolutely Bonkers yep to jump from like what was it 31 wins to 48 30 30 to 48 18
Win jump that is Bonkers without without adding like a superstar yeah in that I I guess they traded for sabonis in the in the in the middle of of the previous year mhm but it was largely like I don’t the way they finished the 2122 season didn’t give ideas of oh hey this
Team might push 50 wins next year no it you made you think okay they might have a chance to make it to 500 yeah yeah no doubt like they could maybe be a playing team and maybe fight for that last playoff spot yeah yeah and they go 48
Wins and they finish as the number three seed and they are broken finger away from winning a playoff series MH like that’s that’s it’s enormous it’s such a massive jump and I and like I said I I understand I don’t I don’t want this to come off like if you’re frustrated with

But again go back to the Michael Malone era like if if DeMarcus Cousins doesn’t get viral menitis the Kings likely make the playoffs like the the game of basketball is is like the game of football and that it’s it’s inches it’s just a game of inches is but it’s in a different way
Like the mistakes that you make one year can cast doubt on like three or four yeah and so for me like just stay the course like figure this thing out like support find the right pieces to go with these players that you understand aren’t the right pieces now and yeah maybe
Kevin herler just threw a wrench in all of that with a shoulder injury that very well could be right but front office you have to adjust to that yeah and as a team you adjust to that yeah you don’t go ah get rid of the coach get rid of

Brandon iuk is like well this is going to make us have to get rid of George KD and Debo Samuel over the next couple years yeah then so be it it’s kind of how goes Man team building is hard team building is hard and like look Trent

Talking about March Madness and you walk around and see you know people in their college gear and you could see who people bet on and that first weekend the pop for that Oregon game was like oh y’all got some money on this this joint I I kind of listened to that whole thing
On ESPN 1320 I was we were on the air for that game so I didn’t really get a chance to see it and just really saw the end of regulation and I didn’t even see it I was listening to it on the way home but uh yeah that seemed like

Bench but just that starting two guard Ro like wasn’t the fit and like you throw ke or Keon in there now now the whole team is playing good defense now you got three solid Defenders instead of playing with just two where um you’re the minority of it what not the majority
Whole team’s kind of connected Keon’s hitting shots when he needs to he’s not really um how do you say like inserting himself he’s just playing the role and doing the job he needs to and I think when you got guy do a guy doing that like makes the job easier for Darren fox
Makes easier for easier for everyone else he’s kind of just connected at all I think that I think that’s interesting because someone taught me once it’s don’t be so quick to say someone’s playing bad defense or the team is playing bad defense because we’ve heard a lot about Keon elevating different guys
And look we’re all aware defense is a shortcoming of Kevin hder and maybe what we’re seeing is the impact of one guy being bad defensively and the other guy’s trying to make up for it the other guy’s trying to pick up a Miss assignment a blowby whatever the case
May be and with that not happening with Keon the other guys on the floor are able to do their jobs at a higher level because they’re not trying to help out the per the the I’m sorry to say this the weak link of of that side help make

March 7th against the Spurs yeah the league the the numbers are going crazy right now numbers they about eight games g or nine games I think it is giv up 115 or giv up less than 115 not even 115 or less less than that you you you’re saying the defensive numbers are crazy
Defensive numbers are crazy I think the offensive numbers are about the same maybe a little higher um the net rating number is crazy yeah like is I think it’s just all completely different it’s a new I’ll say it’s a new Kings team it’s just the flow is better and like
I’m thinking too like you add a guy like Trey LS back like when Malik mon goes over for 11 or whatever it was on Saturday like Trey LS he’s gonna pick it up and stuff like that this is a this is a good Kings team right now I think

Going to get there they’re I think they’ll figure it out Dallas is playing better than I thought they would but I still think the Kings will will get in there and be to six seed well I you also have to look like Phoenix has the worst um strength of schedule well the most
Difficult strength of schedule left their strength to schedule is a 607 and they’re playing nothing but highend playoff teams for the rest of the year yeah they have one game against the Spurs left and that’s their only easiest opponent game the Kings still have one against the Blazers one’s
Against the Nets one’s against the Jazz but uh to look at their schedule and I mean they still have again a Nuggets game OKC game two against the Timberwolves two against the Clippers two against the Pelicans once against one against the Cavs that’s and that’s
Crazy so what is that four six 7 eight nine games those like that’s that’s crazy that their last 12 games games includes all of those games and then Dallas uh they did have one of the easiest strength to schedules but all of a sudden they’re up to number 20 they
Have a 476 win percentage against here down the stretch they got Houston twice Houston came out of nowhere yeah oh that’s true yeah we haven’t spent an appropriate enough time talking about how Houston might catch the golden state no your thoughts I mean eight great
Let’s talk about it let’s get into it I think it’s interesting because people are concerned like what happened that the kings are in the playin they might have to face Houston again and my only response yeah Houston’s tough for sure but they also don’t have Alper and shenon and that does change everything
For a matchup against the Kings while they’ve ripped off a whole bunch of wins in a row and a lot of it without him who is going to handle sabonis on that team and I mean you’re gonna have to run boban out there for stretches against sabonis and so I I don’t know
And then the Kings would just do nothing but drag bowon away from the basket and and try to score on the perimeter so I don’t fear Houston as much as I did before the shenon injury like Houston I think is a bad matchup for the Kings but

Different you know Difference Maker for for Houston we were talking earlier about Keon being obviously a Difference Maker for Sacramento one of the big reasons the kings were able to win this game on Saturday was not just Keon Ellis and what he’s been doing for the team
Overall but what he did on the offensive end uh that day I think hitting his his first four or five shots he was connecting from who’s scoring at all uh all three levels and I the Jesse brought this question up earlier Hammer how much do you think what we’re seeing from Keon
Ellis right now changes what the Sacramento King’s approach to the off season might be um well I think he gives you one of the two answers like I I think you had one of the two questions like answers to the questions I think this team clearly has
To improve defensively at the two and they have to improve at the 34 one of the two and that’s because Keegan can play either one and so now I think you go into the offseason knowing that you might you’re going to get a large enough sample size from Keon Ellis
To know whether you can trust him to potentially be a starter next year and it’s going to take a little while because you know I think one thing that people need to understand is that you know the gravitational pull that is Kevin herder on the offensive end Keon
Is hitting shots and that’s great but he doesn’t have the same cache that herder does right now maybe 12 games from now if he’s still shooting 40 40 plus perc from three you’re going to see teams start to you know move towards him a little bit
And at least game plan a little bit for him but he’s got to continue to shoot at the same clip that he is right now to keep defenses honest and we’re going to have some off games like we’ve already seen it he was one of you know a couple
Of players that had bad nights the other night against against Washington you’re going to see off Nights from him because he’s a young player and that’s what happens but I I think the consistency that you’re hoping for it should be there um because some of the things that
I’ve been looking at I looked at Advanced numbers on him today as a catch and shoot three-point shooter he’s shooting 41.3% from the field uh on pull-ups he’s at 35.3 51% of his shots his catch and his three-pointer attempts are are catch and shoot here’s something crazy
74.8% of his field goal attempts are threes and that’s wild and he’s shooting 30 39% and on the defensive end he’s just flat out incredible like what he’s been able to do so far and like you hope that it holds up but overall he’s holding his opponent to Nega
4.8% from the field on three-pointers negative 99.8% he’s holding his his opponent under like what the kings are typically holding their teams to so greater than 15 feet 11.6% he under their their regular shot their regular field goal percentage he’s just extremely good defensive defensively and he’s not letting players
Get by him and he’s not getting a used and any way shape or form he’s had with the one bad game against Jaylen Brunson and outside of that I I don’t even know what his stats would look like if it wasn’t for that one game where he got

Sabonis or is he more Harrison Keegan uh and himself I guess Keon yeah fluctuating versus solidified yeah I’m gonna say he’s really close to solidifying because the last five minutes of a game it slows down but you still need a defensive minded player especially against ISO ISO ball which is
Typically what happens in the NBA in the last five minutes you get a lot of isolation with great players and I want Keon in that situation more often than not I mean we saw it the other night he played 37 minutes you know and he’s got
To clean up the free throw shooting I think he’s like a 65% free throw shooter and that’s going to be something that you’re you’re going to shy away from a little bit but if if I can sort of ride the hot hand between Keegan and Harrison
Whoever has it going that night and then rely on Keon with Monk and fox the fact that he’s 6’4 65 gives you a little bit of range he can play the the 23 you know against bigger players of course he’s going to struggle a little bit but just like the

The kings are still at almost the same identical offensive rating pre and post All-Star break shows you that their offense is actually working better than it was before because they’re actually holding to the same line where everyone else is diving and then the defensive metrics are crazy the kings are all the
Way up to number 15th in the league with the defensive rating of 11 15.1 since the All-Star break the kings are at 111.6 and that’s just their net rating since the All-Star break is is a plus 4.8 and Mike Brown talked about this at the All-Star Break um you know coming
Out he’s like look if we can just be a League average Defender from three right just League average like hold T teams to whatever he’s a we would be a number eight we’d be number eight in in defensive rating and right now in the the games since the allstar break which
Is like what 15 games they’re at 36.3 over 16 games they’re they’re holding their opponents from three to 36.3% and it was a 39.7 before so 40% they’ve shaved almost 4% off their their three-point shooting defense which is incredible and part of Shaving that number down is that other teams
Aren’t even taking as many they’re taking two less threes per game because the kings are playing them better defensively and so those are good signs that’s how if if that 36.3% that they’re holding their opponents to since a break that would be 13th best in the league
Overall and all of a sudden their defense is skyrocketing because of it so like look Mike Brown kept talking about we have to be better defensively and we’ve got to do it now because we can’t just crank it up in the playoffs I think we’ve seen it we’ve seen the response

Know we’ve heard different players Harrison is the one who stands out the most where he talks about how Keon you know lifts certain guys up and and dearon has talked about how he you know he can play a little bit differently on the defensive end with Keon there how much of that
Is the other four players on the floor don’t have to make up for one guys mistakes and how much of that is is is Keon just being a really good Defender and allowing those guys to focus solely on on their task at hand on the defensive end well I might have just
Asked the same thing sure I don’t think you did okay so like look there’s no question I’m like there there’s no comparison between Keon Ellis and Kevin herder as a defensive player there’s just not so I mean number one you’re getting much much better at that position defensively and that’s just not
Who Kevin herder is so I think that that’s one point that I would make but I’d also point to the fact that when you have multiple weak links on the defensive side and then you swap out one of those with a better Defender it does make it so you’re not scrambling as much
And and the fact that dearon fox doesn’t have to defend the toughest guy for an entire game like he has the entire season on the perimeter that’s a big deal because now Fox should have more bounce he should have more left in the tank to number one defend better but
Also to carry you offensively so I I think the the long-term impact of having Keon Ellis in the starting lineup is is huge like we we’re only seeing the first like what does it look like type deal but over a an 82 game schedule I mean I
I would think that there’s potential for him to continue to get better as a player and I also think that you could have a situation where Keon becomes like a Tony Allen like like I always bring up Eric snow I think one of the problems that
You have with the Kings is you’ve never had someone to put next to dearon who is like an Eric snow next to Alan Iverson where all he has to do is is defend hit an occasional shot and and again Keon Ellis is a much better shooter than Eric
Snow ever was but defensively he just took the pressure off all the time off of AI and allow him to do what he does and just float around the perimeter and be open all the time and I think that that’s it’s sort of the pairing you’ve
Been waiting for for the Kings to find find me somebody that can play along alongside dearon that is a three and D specialist and doesn’t make a bunch of mistakes but allows dear to be who he is and take some of the pressure off dear on the
Defensive side as thear of the early 2000 Philadelphia 76ers I would say I’d want Keon to be eron mcke yeah as opposed to Eric snow yeah even I mean yeah yeah yeah George Lynch I mean the Kings still need George Lynch and this idea you know they do and
