Derek Bodner Devon given with you Briana is producing all of you in the chat we have a lot to talk about today from Buddy heel to the standings with the 76ers 10 games remain folks 10 games left on the season how do we get here so

Quickly yet here we are and never did we imagine that we would be in this spot where we’re talking about the playin look we play We for we forecasted this talking about the play a few weeks ago where we we featured a show around the playin and the possibility of the 76ers

Uh in the play in and look man there’s a real real conversation about this my guy SM guy says Devon bucket hat Devon of course I can pull it off I’m trying to pull it off I’m really envious of Kyle being on vacation right now and if I was on the

Beach right now SMY guy the bucket the bucket gotta have the bucket on as we’re hanging out so yes the bucket today I just put the bucket on and that was the that was the go-to today’s my guy but Derek man look we’re back and and and we’re talking about this basketball team

And Buddy Hillel we kind of wanted to focus on buddy Hill today because we we we talk stock report we speak about Buddy heill stock up stock down uh so many players that we do that with as we focus on on this basketball team but

When we praised him for what he did in those first few games after the trade was was executed no embid Maxi missed some time Tobias Harris missed a little bit of time you you saw some really good things from Buddy heel some others during that time also once he got here

Then the struggles started to happen and we of course we attribute a lot of that to the best version of Buddy heill is going to be when Joel embiid is on the floor absolutely no question about it but he’s not here yet and we’ve also seen him though do other things again

Since he’s been here he hasn’t played one game one minute with Joel embiid these struggles have been happening where they could have used 16 to 17 points maybe even having an outburst of 20 plus in the game the playmaking that we saw in those first few games as well

Certainly the opposition is going to figure things out they see film they look at you with your new team figure out what happened in those first four games that were positive how did they take that away they’ve taken a lot of that away now the chance of the Sixers

Doing the same thing of figuring it out how do they get that back what does Nick nurse do to get that back moving him to the bench was one of those pieces to see if you can unlock him with the second unit against the second unit of the

Opposition and see if you can get something more out of Buddy Hill this has been a problem sure when embi comes back whenever he comes back if and when he comes back this season going into the postseason buddy heeld has to be unlocked where you get a better version

Of that player with Tyrese Maxi Kelly UB Tobias Harris and others over the stretch of these final 10 games to number one stay away from the Chicago Bulls but also maybe maybe hosting that playin game potentially as that seventh seed instead of the E going to Miami you

Need buddy Hill to figure some things out you need the head coach and the coaching staff to figure some things out so Derek when you look at where the games were before where he was averaging close to 20 points a game six assists where he was six six seven eight five

The assist numbers shooting still defense focused on him but he’s still having pretty good shooting numbers what’s the difference how do they unlock him yeah and that’s really um you know we we mentioned it at the time like what he was doing his first four games in Philadelphia were unsustainable the it

Was a passing that really blew me away uh and they were able to it seemed like Leverage his gravity to create shots for Paul Reed uh and others but Paul Reed specifically was the one where it seemed like they really had some chemistry Paul Reed rolling the rim two Defenders

Jumping out to try to take away buddy shot that was creating some pretty good looks out of those sets uh that was maybe the biggest surprise some of the shooting he was shooting lights out you know 10 threes per game making 45% of them I think at some point during those

First four games that was always going to come down when you’re shooting that high volume and you have that much attention paid to you it’s one thing to make 40% of your threes when you’re playing alongside of stars uh it’s another thing to make 45% of your threes

When you are the star and the team that other uh opponents are gearing to take away so you knew that that those threes were going to stop going in at that rate he was going to have some up and downs the passing was a real thing that

Surprised me but also you know he’s not the most creative passer he was getting reads because of all the attention he was receiving you knew teams were eventually going to adjust and I think seen a little bit of an adjustment there all I want from Buddy as a passer mostly

Is when he does have a close out to attack when they they do send to his way um he is able to make the right play but he’s not going to really be initiating much of your offense I think a lot of what we’ve seen here is you know and he

His since going to the bench he is averaging 9.8 points in 22 minutes per game uh shooting 43% from the field and 34% from three-point range that’s overstated a little bit because his first game Off the Bench he scored 16 and shot four of six from three over his

Last eight games he is averaging just nine points and shooting 29% from three-point range you need way way more from Buddy heeld than that that being said a lot of this you know you talk about a player when we talked about how how Joel beid might be the right player

To play for Buddy heel to play next to but Tyrese halberton was one of the right players too like I think Ty or buddy heeld thrived a lot in transition a lot in early offense being able to get out there and get an open three before

The other team had a real chance to match up when they were still scrambling and he had space uh because he was so quick with that trigger if they didn’t match up in transition right away he had a real clean look and I think he stried

Off of that he played his entire career with halberton and and before halberton really emerged was playing with Fox two players who’ really pushed the tempo yeah the Sixers right now since jel meid went out of lineup are 27th in the league in Pace they have the fourth

Slowest Pace in the league despite fact that they have forced the second most turnovers in the league over that stretch which is a really amazing combination because usually when you force turnovers that gets you out on the break and into early offense but you only Force turnovers even the best in

The league at a relatively low percentage you have to get stops as well and that’s where the Sixers defense really falls apart uh since Joel be down a line up their 20th and opponent field goal percentage which actually isn’t all that bad I mean it’s it’s bottom 10 or

Bottom 11 in the league so it’s not good but it’s not as bad as it could be but then they compound that with being 27th in the league in defensive rebounding and being 28th in the league in allowing opponents to get the free throw line when opponents have a chance to take the

Ball out of the basket and certainly when they have a chance to get to the free throw line it’s really tough to run in those spots yes so being 28th in allowing opponents get the line being 27th in defensive rebounding just a really bad combination and also tyres

Maxi missed some games and he’s really the only one who is even remotely quick with the ball in his hands you also don’t have any real driving kick players outside tyres Maxi and tyres Maxi right now is probably a below average in terms of pure Court vision point guard uh he

Makes up for that a little bit because he causes a lot of rotations because of his speed but he’s not the most natural playmaker in the world for a lead guard and he’s really the only player outside of Kyle Lowry who has any kind of passing creativity on his team right now

And Kyle Lowry is and I’m being polite about this very slow so he’s not forcing any kind of rotations to create passing Lanes either all this is to say that I think Buddy heeld is getting fewer open looks than has for most of his career

That’s going to change in a big way when Joel embiid comes back and you combine that with the fact that I think he’s in a slump and you might be getting his head a little bit and because he’s not getting easy shots he’s used to it’s harder for him to get

Out of the slump shooting is inherently a very streaky thing so it’s a combination of not getting the opportunities he used to being caught in a a slump maybe that funk lasting a little longer because it’s tougher to get out of because he’s not getting as many clean looks and maybe he’s

Overthinking things or rushing things or what have you um but he has not been good and I think when he does struggle from the perimeter it just goes to show how much the rest of his game is imperfect at best below average at worst uh I do think he’s a pretty bad off
