Woj gives the latest on Jontay Porter’s betting scandal | SportsCenter

Back in all right a developing story here on Sports Center Raptors for jonte Porter is under NBA investigation after multiple betting irregularities over the past several months twice the season Porter left games early due to injury or illness which allowed heavily bet under proops to win as Porter failed to reach

His expected output Porter is on a two-way contract making $450,000 this season senior NBA Insider agent wowski joins us to talk about this will what’s the latest you’re hearing on the NBA’s in investigation into Porter well jante Porter is sidelined now he will not be an active member of

This Raptor’s team while this investigation is underway and I think no certainly some of the initial questions that are going to be asked uh did Jon Porter ask out of those two games where he only played four minutes and three millions three minutes one was due to uh

They said re-aggravation of an eye injury the other game was an illness and those were the games where you know there was an inordinate amount of money bet in one on the unders with Porter but certainly this has reverberated throughout the entire NBA uh you know this situation it is the worst nightmare

For any professional league but at this point you know this is certainly circumstantial with jonte Porter he’s going to get an opportunity to explain himself but you know this is going to be an investigation uh that the league is is going to undertake uh and I think certainly the messaging was out you

Talked to team Executives agents people uh who have to work closely with players in this league there was a lot of re-educating uh and reaffirming last night uh all over the NBA about the risks and the potential devastating consequences for any player uh who might uh be involved in gambling uh and so

Certainly you know this is an inv investigation that throughout the league you know people are watching very closely to see how the NBA responds to this and you know certainly uh what you know there’s certainly going to be more to the story and to give jonte Porter a

Chance to explain uh what right now could just be coincidental it could be something more yeah certainly more to come there Porter has played in 26 games this season the Raptors host the Knicks tomorrow night woe thank you we’re going to bring in NBA analyst Tim leg Tim what’s your reaction to this

Investigation involving jont Porter can’t overstate what a huge story this is because I anytime you’re talking about a sporting event that you’re watching and there’s any sort of indication of impropriety where what you’re watching is not genuine that’s a massive problem for any League now this could have been a much worse situation

Because look this clearly didn’t look like it affected in any way an outcome of a game these are prop bets on a role player who doesn’t play significant minutes on his statistics it’s a little bit of a different thing and again as W said there’s a lot more information to

Come out first of all with regard to Jon Porter a lot of questions are going to have to be answered and why did he come out of those two games who were making these bets that triggered these alerts to go off where it just was something

Unusual to look at uh so once all the information is out there and I this certainly looks like it’s more than a coincidence now you’re going to have to have the league do something very strong to make sure that this is something that the players understand what the

Consequences are going to be if they’re involved in anything like this so I think there’s a lot more to come in terms of the information of this story but there’s no doubt you can’t overstate how big this is if you feel like anything is predetermined when you watch

A sporting event as a fan as a better that’s a massive deal for the league and they’re going to be all over it yeah you mention it a lot more to come on this story Tim legler thank you for joining us you got it he

Adrian Wojnarowski joins SportsCenter to detail the latest on Jontay Porter being sidelined for sports betting prop irregularities and then Tim Legler joins to give his take.

  1. How come no one is asking why they allow prop bets on these bench guys? They cant make a lot of money off of it and can only lose big.

  2. Betting should be illegal. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. Like at all. Three government is a joke. Seriously. They don’t arrest illegal immigrants but snitch to the whole world about Pete rose betting on games. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Seriosuly. We have many people in the world very immature.

  3. They’re going to make an example outta him for sure especially if they want to put a team in Vegas …this guy might get a permanent ban on the 1st strike.

  4. One league has a nobody caught up in a betting scandal and looks like they are ready to throw multiple books at him before he has even made a public statement….. And another league has a star player involved in a betting scandal and is trying to down play his involvement and make some nobody interpreter into a super spy.

You can really tell which league understands the way their fans are going to react and which one is hoping for a bigger news story to come along

  5. Why is ESPN focusing on this story from a guy 90% NBA fans have never heard of? I know I've never heard of this guy!

Why dont yall cover the lebron allegations this hard?

I wont say it here but we all know the allegations I'm referring too!

  6. Its almost like the NBA has a betting problem, corrupting its product… but they don't care, as long as they get that $$$.

  7. The gambling sites is actually the one complaining 😂 they losing too much money because of him

  8. Lol at circumstantial when a inconsequential player has the most action on props than any other player in the NBA.

  9. Being a guy who was out and under the radar on a team with no exposure, I feel he tried to get over on em. Def need more signs like if he was making gestures to anyone in the crowd
