Hall of Famer will hopefully join me uh very soon uh in just a moment in fact like I said he was boarding a plane right there and we lost him right at the jump uh so it is what it is in that regard anyways thank you everyone for

Joining me thanks for joining the program welcome to lock on Warriors the Golden State Warriors in a game that was a must-win they’re all a must-win at this point moving forward the final score in Miami 11392 the Miami Heat were missing a lot of players tonight because of injury

Kevin Love was not playing Duncan Robinson was not playing but clearly the most important player not available for the Miami Heat Jimmy Butler was out because of illness the Warriors had their own injuries to deal with uh which has not been a a a huge problem this

Season uh but they were missing one of their more important players considering how the season’s going and their lack of depth in the front court and those Trace Jackson Davis uh who was experiencing some knee swelling so he missed the game tonight we we and because of that we had

A cavon looney sighting um but regardless the absence of Trace Jackson Davis uh did not impede the warriors uh and they took advantage of the players missing from the Miami Heat a fantastic defensive night for the Golden State Warriors anytime you hold your opponent to below 100 points that’s a win on the

Defensive side3 to 92 uh and and hopefully we’ll get Rick back on the program in just a moment oh I I think I see him riberry sighting uh let me get my there we go there we go are you back you’re with us yeah I just couldn’t hear

You so I just I dropped off and called back so anyway I’m excited for the Warriors a huge win uh I mean obviously you know on the road it’s always tough but the thing is to win a game even though they had some other people missing you still have to get the job

Done and to do it with Steph not having a great offensive night not shooting the ball particularly well from three-point range with zero points from Chris Paul you know not having his normal type of a game uh to Come Away with a victory and as you pointed out having a good

Defensive opportunity not opportunity effort in the game to come away with a much needed win you know what I’m sick and tired because I earlier today I’m so tired to listen to The Talking Heads and I even shouldn’t call them Talking Heads because this happens to be a former

Player Kendrick Perkin sometimes this I mean he says a lot he says you know he says a lot of things that I really agree with and good he’s a former player he doesn’t know the game at all but my God I mean he’s so down on the Warriors I

Mean he picked the heat it doesn’t matter what whether Jimmy Butler played or not I mean I just sick and tired of listening to these guys here’s the thing first of all you don’t know who’s going to win or lose games okay I everybody asked me all the time when I broke he

Used to drive me that’s well who do you pick I said how the hell do I know who I pick I said I wouldn’t be on the show here I’d be betting every time if I knew who was gonna win I said that’s the whole idea about sports you have to play

The damn game and so it just drives me absolutely nuts and they talk like they really know what’s going on so anybody listen to Perkins lost money if they beted if they bet on the game so I mean it’s nuts and so wior is same way well I

Don’t know if Jimmy Jimmy B maybe not if Jimmy B Stars I’ll do it they make it like a big thing stop predicting you don’t have the freaking answers let the game unfold talk about it talk about what you think I I thing before would have been big game for the Warriors if

It doesn’t matter whether Jimmy plays or not they’re on the road they have to come up with a way to win the game who cares who gets it done just get it done and they did it so that’s the most important aspect without question absolutely you know you you brought up Stephen Curry

And I value your opinions more than anyone um and thank you for the rant there I would play you we normally play on the Rick Barry show uh we normally play a sound bite to go along with d me crazy but because of copyright I can’t play that here unfortunately nonetheless

Okay um Stephen Curry’s shooting lately I don’t know if it’s driving people not been great has hasn’t it’s been it’s been very erratic for him yes what do you attribute to that because because there seems to be a little happens okay it happens I mean it I mean that just

Happens I mean that’s why actually I’m happy because he didn’t have a good shooting night clay came through and had a nice game shooting so hopefully clay will still have another good game but you don’t expect Steph to have back-to-back bad games now he’s had that

Happen in you know the last couple of weeks he’s had back-to-back bad games and they they’re not going to win consistently that’s why I was so happy to see that he didn’t have a particularly good game and Chris Paul gets zero points and they win the game

Convincingly I don’t care who’s out of the game that was a convincing good win for them on the road against a good basketball team I mean let’s face it look what happens look what look what happened to Boston I mean they lost by the 30-point lead and they they didn’t

Have their best guy playing in the game and they wind up giving up a 30-point lead so stuff like that happens all the time in the game that’s why you have to be prepared you have to keep focused so kudos to the Warriors and the guys that

Played they got the job done now they got to try to do it again tomorrow because the way the Rockets are playing I mean you know they’re right oh we just lost Rick Barry again he was on a roll there uh he he’ll be joining us again in just a a moment um

Let me just do a quick shift here my screen to make the appropriate adjustment whoops wrong one anyways um but just to piggyback off what Rick was saying when he comes back what I want to ask him is whether or not Steve because there’s a a a public airing of

Disagreement between Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry where Steve Kerr is publicly acknowledging that Stephen Curry is wearing down and he’s trying to monitor his minutes you know we had the whole drama following the the Warriors Timberwolves game where uh you know quite a few people were not happy with

The fact that Steph was on the bench until about the six minute Mark in a game that the Warriors ended up losing by four and you know and Steve cerr is talking about protecting Steph uh you know giving him some rest but then Steph comes out publicly and according to

Stephen Curry he’s fine now look athletes will routinely say that the most I would say probably it’s a safe guess than most professional athletes um don’t like to acknowledge if their their physical the physical side of things is in any way being affected in a negative manner meaning injuries for example uh

In this case um exhaustion wear and tear um Steph so who knows if Stephen Curry is just in that mode where he doesn’t want to you know cast any blame for his recent shooting struggles um he doesn’t want to admit that you know his his body’s wearing down he loves to play

Stephen Curry I feel like we play a whole game if if he had to uh I think we got Rick back again welcome back sir yeah I’m on an airplane getting ready to take off so anyway the signal something’s happening you’re freezing up on me but anyway so good game now they

Got to try to win the next one as I said if I got cut off beforehand every game is critical with the way the Rockets are playing and they could conceivably not even make the play us if they don’t win as many games as they can down this

Stretch correct well well I have you have a few questions I have to ask first of all the Stephen Curry thing I was just talking about this uh while you were uh coming back where there is a public disagreement between Steve Kerr and Steph Steve Kerr saying that there

He is seeing signs of wear and tear he’s trying to protect Stephen Curry then Steph comes out publicly and says I’m fine I could play all the minutes you want you as a as a Hall of Fame athlete what’s your take on that you know how I feel about that I

Mean yeah I played average 47 minutes a game one time I mean you know I mean he’s in great shape he’s a freaking professional athlete and if he says he’s okay if I’m the coach I’m saying okay if you feel you’re good great if I see you’re getting tired I’ll maybe pull you

Out give you a little blow and everything but I think you know in this situation I think Steve should listen to what what Steph is saying you know I mean come on this is you know two-time MVP could have been more than that and

Listen to what he has to say I mean it’s too critical right now for them to not have him playing yeah no I agree and so so so did you feel the the last game that they lost to the Timberwolves like should Stephen Curry have come back into

The game a few minutes earlier or did you not think that was a big deal I didn’t get to see all the games because I was on the road traveling so I mean I to me unless there’s something really wrong with him going on I I don’t see how you

Not have Steph Curry in the game I mean yeah seriously I mean I mean he only played 31 minutes in this game so which is good he’s got to play tomorrow night again but if you know if it’s a close game in doing it I want Steph Curry on

The court I mean come on even if even if you shot poorly I mean the guy all of a sudden I mean he can be shooting you know I mean I had that happened I was two for 14 in the seventh game finals in the playoffs I mean in the Western

Conference and I didn’t stop shooting I mean you got I mean you and I went five for seven you know in the last six minutes or something I mean come on this is Steph Curry we’re talking about I love it I love the answer um because you know some athletes just will

Not acknowledge if they’re hurt or if they’re tired hey I used to ask if I was tired i’ give him a blow I need I need it but if I don’t give the blow I mean I’ll find a way hey I get a rebound

Really got a fair shot at getting a chance to make the NBA but you know that’s life but everything in life happens for a reason as a result of that he committed himself to 3×3 basketball which is a sport that you really need to know and understand how to play the game

Smart Moving without the ball you know just being intelligent and you know he and Jimmer and and Kareem and and and and U oh I’m going to draw a blank on his name uh Dylan I and they made they were announced as the team the team that went spent months and months

Traveling around the world in Mongolia what everything qualified the USA for the Olympics and then they had to go to a tryy out to do it and the powers to be decided to let these guys who had great chemistry were playing good and came I mean so close to winning the World Cup

This year this past season I mean it was like crazy that they lost it’s very sad and they chose to let these guys have the opportunity to be representing our country so my son as a result is now an Olympian and and that’s a very special thing nobody else in the barry household

Regardless of what everybody’s accomplished is become an Olympian so you know kudos to him I’m so glad this happened for him I know he’s really excited about it and I know how much he appreciated representing the United States in a bunch of other competitions he’s been in five competitions on

National teams in internationally he’s had four Golds and one silver medal and it could have easily been five gold medals on the teams when he’s played so and they missed that on the Olympics the last time because he got hurt two days before and they didn’t

Qualify so anyway I’m happy for him yeah I’m happy for him and you and the whole Barry Clan congratulations I got figure out to get there because I’m coaching in the big three so I gotta find a way and I fig I found the way to do it I was kind of

Shocked we be having a game in the big three F ex cubes I’m looking forward to the ball Hogs but we play we play and we play in Cincinnati amazingly there’s a non-stop flight that night after our game from Cincinnati directly to Paris I couldn’t believe it when I saw it so I

Can get over there and spend the week watching him play so I’m looking forward to it that’s huge and Cy Barry is going to be one of the players for the the US men’s three on three uh basketball team which is a relatively new format for the

Olympics I think this is the second time they’re doing it and as you mentioned Canyon would have played on the LA the last Olympics team except for injury preventing him from doing so and and just to piggy back off what you said a moment ago you and your five Sons uh

Have all played professional basketball I believe four of the six have played in the NBA um correct me obviously on any of these if I’m wrong but no Olympic gold medals so candy will complete potentially if he wins the gold the circle of greatness am I no never mind

Winning a gold nobody’s ever been you know go never ever been an Olympian so that’s that was my biggest disappointment in my career is not getting on the Olympic team in 64 when I was in college before the pros came in so you know as I say everything in life

Happens for a reason he didn’t get the NBA chance if he had he never would have had a chance to be on that team because now it’s all the pros and the big name guys and so now he gets to be an Olympian so good for him I’m really

Excited uh yeah I’m excited for you too um you know Rick I’m going to lose you at any point here but so I have to ask you this though Rick what happens if uh and again this is this this fight for the 10th playoff spot is between two of

Your former teams a lot of people will forget that she finished her career with the Houston Rockets um but those two are fighting it out with this this win was huge because now the Warriors have a one game lead over Houston really it’s two because they own the tiebreaker right um

But Rick what happens if the Warriors miss the playoffs I mean do you blow this whole thing up um is it do you not even want to touch that subject right now because a lot of there’s more that discussion is heating up and I’m curious to know what you’re

Thinking well first of all let’s see what happens if they get in there and do it I mean it’s been a crazy year with all of the suspensions with Draymond and the things that have taken place and Wiggins and all the stuff he had gone through I mean it’s and the learning

Curve for you know kaminga and for Moody and the rest of the guys no I don’t necessarily think you blow it up but you do look to try to find another element to bring to the team to have opportunity to still be competitive again you know

Next year but as I say if they do get in and they get through that playing game I would not want to be playing this team because of the experience that they have and the potential they can beat anybody in the league on any night now whether they can

Beat somebody in the whole full series remains to be seen they haven’t showed the fact that they could be as consistent as they need to be uh but you know hopefully for the fans sake they’ll make the playoffs and they have an opportunity to see some games there

Name instead uh but for those of you that are unaware um he shortly before I believe tip off um he was pulled away from the team um because he’s being investigated I not just by the NBA but I think legally and he might face some serious legal ramifications for this for

Allegedly fixing games let me correct let me correct that not fixing games but um altering his own performance in terms of individual bets uh so you know G Sports gambling really has like two different styles in in in this current Incarnation that we have here we have traditional Sports gambling where you

Bet on team you bet on uh props and all that stuff um where you’re betting on less like spreads of a of of a game and over under of a game and then the other side of it is the the daily fantasy part of it where you’re betting on

Individuals right um so for example you could place a bet on Stephen Curry and whether or not he’s gonna score more or less than 29 and a half points in a game well Porter in this instance is being uh is and this is allegedly I want to emphasize that but he’s under

Investigation for basically taking himself out of two different games in one instance he uh supposedly uh had an eye injury that he claimed he had so he took himself out in another game he left a game early because of quote unquote illness and in both those games

Um a a a high prominent Sports bookie came out and said the biggest bets made those two days were on the under of his individual performances meaning let’s say uh if you want to bet on Porter that game making more less than two and a half three-pointers he bet like the the

Biggest Wagers made that day on those two days more specifically were the unders on his individual performances and because he took himself out of these games so soon um he hit the under he he he scored less than and let’s say he you know passed less than whatever the line

Was for assists grab less than whatever the line was for rebounds so so by taking himself out of the out of these games one for a supposed eye injury the other one for a supposed illness and that was not specific um he basically clenched the under for his bet because

He he he was out of the game and barely had a stat line and those two days and those specific bets were the biggest Wagers in sports gambling for that day reported by a high-profile uh uh Sports gambling company and again if you Google search it you can find a lot more information

On it but the point is that is heavy that is crazy and as Rick said why would you put yourself as an NBA player in that position it’s it’s insane I mean I anyway so that that to me was wild I know the the Otani stuff has been all

Over the news with sports gambling but that that one went under the radar and it’s wild it’s really wild because he’s literally affecting his own performance just to basically win bets um and yeah Raceland Mahi if I pronounce that correctly that will will likely result

We’ll have a more clear picture of that unless Steve Kerr said something very recently that I missed um my guess is it’s Brandon psky struggles um and look it’s no secret that at least on the offensive side of things psky has not been playing well um and in fact here’s

A sound bite all right let’s let’s hear from Steve cerr talking uh about Klay Thompson reinserted into the starting lineup and then we’ll read a statline because it was fantastic um he was he basically did what they needed him to do in that Timberwolves game but hey he did

It he performed well we’ll read his stats in just a moment but here’s Steve Kerr talking about inserting Klay Thompson into the starting lineup what sparked the decision to start Klay and what do you feel like his presence opened up uh it just felt like um get a

Little more uh spacing on the floor to start the game and um so um you know it’s it’s not doesn’t necessarily mean you know it’s permanent it just felt like tonight that was important the gut he went with the gut well the gut worked tonight Steve Cur Steve Curry’s gut uh succeeded

Tonight it was a gut decision Ste according to Steve Curry wanted spacing uh for the offense um whether or not it worked I mean they the team started off uh leading this game 135 um and my whole thing with this offense and defense but and I’ll say

This to the end this team look they beat the Miami tonight they have to win this game especially considering that the Houston Rockets are nipping at their heels uh for that final play on play for the for the final playing spot but clay and Wiggins together is a detriment and

I and I’ll that that’s a hill I’ll I’ll I’ll fight fight on I will it’s it’s just the numbers show it in terms of their net rating as Duo um you know when we talk about these fourth quarter leads constantly dissipating it’s happening almost entirely when you have both those

Players on the court together uh those two have by far the worst net rating on this team among the entire roster um if it’s one or the other they can survive um but when you see both of them on the court together it’s a detriment uh I digress tonight Klay Thompson the

Stat line was superb he led the team by far in net rating uh with a plus 25 so I think he came into this game tonight minus 71 on the year net rating so this game helped that stat quite a bit finished the night with 28 points

Six of 14 from Beyond The Arc shot over 50% from the field he was 11 of 20 and a lot of those buckets coming close to the rim he was staying inside I saw him grabbing some tough rebounds as well he grabbed five on the night had one block

And I remember that block very specifically was a big one um so kudos to Klay Thompson led the team in scoring tonight was the only player to score over 20 which is kind of crazy um and again this was a a lowc scoring Affair 11392 uh was the was the final score but

Again Klay Thompson uh inserted into the starting lineup and at least for tonight it worked um Steve cerr did not commit to this being a a long-term decision um going with the old gut and again tonight it paid off Brandon pky was the quote unquote victim of clay being inserted
