    >He didn’t comment much on Edey directly, but gave a few comments on the draft, which has been unique to prepare for due to widely varying opinions on several players (as has been the case with Edey.)

    >“There are players where they might not fit into where the league is going, but if there’s someone that’s dominant doing whatever the skill is… it does seem like the league starts to follow suit.”

  2. All risks considered, I can definitely see us possibly taking Edey if he’s available with our 31st pick.

Not that I think it’s the main factor, but he’s Canadian – and while I’m not someone who wants us to collect every Canadian player just because they’re from here (nor do I think our FO does) I do seem to recall it being reported that that is a factor our FO at the very least values, as they want people who want to be here or are more likely to want to be here.

What I find funny is you see some of the players in past nba drafts in the 10-30 range turn out and then look at Zack and don’t think he will have a better career than them.

What I mean is – the floor with Zack is high enough (rotational big man) that taking him in the 10-30 range should be a no brainer. Yea he’s not winning no mvp but he’s a rotation piece for you

  4. A lot of the people I’ve seen disregard Edey seem to be evaluating him solely on what he is now, instead of what he could become in a few years with a good developmental system.

I’m not trying to suggest he’ll be a star player, or even a starter in the league, but the common criticism that “he’s slow right now so he’ll never be a useful rotation player” doesn’t feel fair at all.

Edey is a guy I think we should really target. He’s going to get extra development reps with Team Canada as well. His development is in a prime position to be maximized. Also hes got RJ on team Canada he can get extra reps with amount the other top tier NBA talent and coaches

If Brook Lopez could develop himself into a modern NBA big man you can’t tell me Zach Edey can’t too

I think Edey should be ok playing 10-15 minutes a game against other teams bench and doing fairly well as he develops. Is that worth a mid or late first? Sure a late first is worth a rotation piece.

But a mid or earlier first is not worth it. Edey has to match up with the modern center (Chet or Wemby). He can’t guard them or other players because of his lack of speed. His only silver lining is hoping to punish those thin boy.

It’s going to be amazing when he’s drafted with the 1st we sent away for Olynyk and Agbaji and Raptors fans are going to STILL going to justify this as a good trade.
