Even if he doesn’t win it, this is just a fact. Historically this award is just “best bench guard” but Naz Reid truly is the best player off the bench and losing KAT and having no drop off in production proves it. In fact, Naz+Gobert have a better defensive pairing rating than Kat+Gobert.
Here’s his head to head with Monk.
It’s easy to see at a glance that Naz destroys Monk in a majority of categories and the deeper you dive, the more impressive he becomes.
In the per 36, Monk’s stats quickly look like volume stats as Naz crushes him on eFG%, 2pt%, and 3pt%. In fact, monk only makes 0.2 more FGs per 36, despite taking nearly two more attempts per 36! Naz outpaces him in rebounds, blocks, steals, turnovers, and the previous three stats listed. The only area Monk actually outpaces Naz is assists, which makes sense since he’s a guard and primary ball handler when in the game.
In advanced stats, Naz outpaces Monk in Box +/-, and most importantly VORP.
The fact Monk is considered the favorite is a travesty and a testimony to the fact that 6MotY is a volume award and not rooted in actual value for team success.
Regardless of how the votes shake out, Naz Reid IS the best 6th man in the leagues and it’s not even particularly close. I’m so glad big jelly is on our team.

Winning matters! Naz Reid should be the runaway. Period! Monk had a great year and arguably has a higher Impact on the game being a creator, BUT you cant give out Awards to play-in team guys- thats stupid
Down to almost even odds:
1. Monk -150
2. Reid +120
3. Powell +900
Finish out the season and it could very well be a toss up decided by Monk missing time.
Also every time he makes a slick move I get to exclaim, “Big Jelly!” at my television. That’s worth at least Monk’s slight ppg advantage just by itself.
