In the ref’s defense I’d guess from that close of a distance it’s probable hard to see his foot and the ball in his hands at the same time. In the slow-mo she is clearly looking only at the foot. By the time she looked up I’d imagine the ball was already out of his hands.

NBA fans really can be harsh sometimes. Do they really think they can do a better job than the ref on average? Take this call for instance, the timing between stepping out of bound and hand releasing the ball is pretty tight. Even in slowmo replay, one can just barely tell the release is slightly late. In normal speed, the timing difference is probably around a quarter of a second. It's not that easy to call.
