The Totally Sophisticated Case for Mosley to win CoY

You might think Jamahl Mosley deserves Coach of the Year for taking the lowly Orlando Magic all the way to the 3rd seed in the East, with a realistic shot at 2nd. It’s almost unheard of for a team this young. After all, Paolo is still 21, and Franz/Suggs both just 22. But you’d be wrong for thinking that. Or at least not totally right. Daigneault and Finch have had incredible years too, so what makes Mosley any more special?

I’m not gonna bore you with a bunch of easily-google-able stats to tell you that a team in 3rd is actually pretty good at basketball. You can look those up yourself. That way it has the added benefit of making you feel just a little bit smarter and edgier than that friend you always talk basketball with.

What makes Mosley so unique is that he’s an excellent communicator that knows how to relate to his players at a very deep and compassionate level.

Back in January the Magic were in a tight game with the Kings on the road. Franz and Gary Harris had both gone out with injuries after barely playing in the game, and they were already missing Cole Anthony, Fultz, and Isaac (who wasn’t yet Completely Healed). [In comes Chuma Okeke, who had barely played all year](https://streamable.com/cd30cn).

After Mosley shared his words of wisdom with Chuma, [things go differently](https://streamable.com/v0v6bl).

Chuma actually started 8 games after this because of the injuries and had some big moments in wins against DEN/ATL/NYK.

This is a silly post but Mosley has genuinely gotten a ton of mileage out of everyone this year. Especially during the 2 ½ months when they started their 3rd string center Goga, along with Anthony Black, because of injuries.

TLDR – I wrote out this whole stupid post because no one ever talked about this hilarious clip from a fun game in January
