With Rob Dillingham entering the draft yesterday I don’t think there’s a consensus in how things will shake out. CBS has Rob at 2 and Yahoo has him at 7. That doesn’t concern us much but I was curious who we would go with. CBS says we go with Jalen Williams brother Cody good 3 and D guy I like this pick but Yahoo says we’ll go with Ron Holland. He’s super athletic but can’t shoot similar to Twin. I don’t like this pick as much. This year draft is the year to pick need over best available. Ron Holland was top high school prospect. For some reason G-League Ignite can’t help players shoot better. I like Cody Williams. Long athletic can play multiple positions.
Much rather have a primary ball handler who can playmake and shoot the deep ball. He may be short but his athleticism and plus wingspan should help make up for that. We really can’t afford to give anymore playing time to another non-shooter. Any offseason additions need to be able to space the floor or we’re wasting a roster slot and cap space without solving any problems.
For guys around our anticipated selection (9 at the moment), I think we need to focus on drafting a shooter to complement the other guys on our roster.
My dream pick would be Reed Sheppard but he mostly seems to be a top 6-7 pick. Shot over 50% from 3 in college, is a solid PnR passer and connective passer in general, and is great at getting steals/block even at just 6’3”. His advanced impact stats are also extremely good for a freshman guard. HIs closest player comp is honestly probably FVV, and I think Fred’s fit has been great with this group so far this year. He should be able to make an impact straight away while also being a potential building block for the future.
The other guy that I think could be a good pick-up is Dalton Knecht. Again, a knockdown shooter who was a scoring machine at Tennessee. He can shoot coming off screens, and has the ability to punish closeouts by taking it inside the 3pt line. He’s also a great off-ball cutter. I just think he’d add another element to our offense that no one else provides at the moment. He should be able to contribute right away, but he’s already 23 so I’m not sure there’s ton of upside. His defense also isn’t the best, but he’s still got a solid 6’6” frame with a good wingspan so hopefully he’ll be able to hold his own. It looks like he’ll most likely be available at 9.
Honestly, if we neither of those guys are on the board, I’m almost more inclined to just trade the pick for a solid rotation player that can contribute right away. I think Deni Avdija could be a good shout since he has a great contract ($50mil over the next 4 years), or we could offer a bit more for Mikal Bridges (just picks and rotation players though, no JG or other young pieces).
No more raw athletic guys this team needs shooting , If no shooters available trade the pick package it up for a shooter
Draft bronny for the Reddit Entertainment
Biggest thing we *don’t* need is another athletic guard or wing who can’t shoot. We have more than enough non-shooting and need spacing at this point, someone who couldn’t shoot won’t crack the rotation so the development would get wasted and if they did get forced in it’d probably be bad for the team makeup.
I’m looking at a sharpshooter, Reed Sheppard being top of my list, with an athletic wing that at least shoots league average like Cody Williams as a secondary option
I also had really liked the idea of a rim protecting big man to be a backup, Clingan was top of my list there, but Landale has played pretty well and combine that with Adams it feels less of a need. Although if Clingan fell to us I’d still be considering that
To me I worry with how we’ll use this pick, honestly if he’s on the board just give me Knecht. Shooter, can play some defence and might have a bit more upside as a scorer
Next year we have to make a decision on Sengun and Jalen and I believe we will extend them. If that’s happening, then there will probably be trades to move salary so I don’t think it’s an issue to draft for need over bpa.
I honestly don’t follow the prospects much, but just based on how our roster is constructed a center is the only position that would play at all. Any other selection would just be to stash or trade
Getting a center will give Ime the defensive option he wants there, as well as give us leverage in extension talks with AlP.
Sarr is the dream pick if we win the lottery, but a guy like Kel’el Ware could fill a similar role.
Or get Clingan and move AlP to PF at times. His poor perimeter D won’t be an issue with a true rim protector behind him.
Best player available. We are already too deep that whoever we draft likely won’t see the court outside of injury. The one position we may need would be PG and that is only if you have given up on Thompson learning the position.
We need shooting. We need Reed!
Sadly, I think Reed goes before we pick at 9 (unless we move up during the lottery).
If Reed is off the board, I’d also be happy with Dillingham, Knecht, who are also bring great shooting. I’m cool with Cody Williams too, though his shooting is more of a question mark. Good percentage, but low attempts.
This year, except Sarr at 1, is all uncertain. I could see the Rockets trading Nets pick after the lottery honestly
