Some interesting tidbits written by Grange:

    >And the Raptors will have to pay a lot to keep him. The 24-year-old is a restricted free agent this summer and the Raptors will have the right to match any competing offer. But the mere possibility that a couple of teams with cap space and a need for elite shooting — San Antonio and Orlando come to mind — could swoop in will require the Raptors to make a serious offer. He’s eligible for a five-year extension and it’s unlikely it would be for less than $150 million. In theory, it could be for as much as $204.5 million if the Raptors felt compelled to offer Quickley the maximum he is eligible for.

    >Besides, having traded all-NBA defender OG Anunoby to get him, there is no chance the Raptors won’t find a deal for Quickley, who is averaging 21 points and nine assists a game since the all-star break, with a True Shooting percentage of 59.1, which is excellent.

    >Among several questions the Raptors will be facing this off-season, however, is who will be Quickley’s backup.

    >Ironically, Toronto had the perfect man for the job in Schroder, who has been starting for the Nets since that trade deadline deal. It was nothing personal, but Schroder wanted to recreate his role as the centrepiece of the German national team he led to World Cup gold last summer. When the Raptors made the move for Quickley, Schroder wasn’t keen on being a backup and it was better for all concerned that the veteran moved on.

    >But Toronto still needs someone they can trust for 20 or so minutes a game when Quickley doesn’t play.

    >In that context, it’s interesting to monitor the progress of Javon Freeman-Liberty, who starred for Raptors 905 this season while on a two-way deal and earned a promotion to a regular NBA deal in March.

    >Freeman-Liberty doesn’t have that problem. He’s six-foot-three and has speed and athleticism to spare, which is part of the reason he led the G-League in scoring this past season. But his challenge is channelling his skill and ability in a way that benefits the four other players on the floor at all times. It’s not a simple task.

    >Are point guards born or made? The Raptors are willing to give Freeman-Liberty the chance to find out.

That Knicks Trade was a great one for both teams.

The Pascal one on the other hand should have netted us one of Nesmith/Jalen Smith/Nembhard which would’ve fixed backup big/backup guard or getting a decent wing

  3. Who’ll be the backup PG? Surely this isn’t a question/problem that this team hasn’t had before……….right?

  4. Hopefully a top 6 draft pick from this years draft.

It would be almost unprecedented for a team to tie up over $150 million as an offer to an RFA currently on a team that can feasibly offer him the max. If we were financially hamstrung (ie still had pascal on the roster) that would be a different situation. The Raps are in good position to net a fair contract on IQ.

Now they need to focus on getting a backup PG, when Quick sits the momentum falls into a cliff

Jared McCain would be a great backup for him, hoping we pick him up in the draft

    Upcoming FA point guards:

    Klow
    D’Angelo Russell
    Markelle Fultz
    Tyus Jones
    Monte Morris
    P Bev
    Cameron Payne
    Dennis Smith Jr
    Aaron Holiday
    Kris Dunn
    Delon Wright
    Patty Mills

Lots of guys who can fill a backup role and not lose you the game.

We definitely had one of the better PG rotations when Dennis was backing up Quickley.

Y’all don’t like Liberty Freeman? I think he’s developing nicely.

Topic is the best pg in the draft I think. Not sure if he fits the Raps or not, but if the move into the right draft spot, that could be the backup.

Ideally, they get a legit backup PG on a rookie deal from the draft. My dream scenario would be for the Raptors to move up to #1 to take Sarr. None of the point guards in the lottery seem to be needle movers. Topić, Sheppard, Dillingham and Castle all have the same question marks around their game as players outside the lottery the Raptors could land. With the Pacers pick around 19, they could get Collier, McCain, or Carter to back up IQ. I think any of those guys would be a capable backup as long as heavy expectations aren’t placed on them from the start.

Malachi Flynn will probably be available. Could give you a nice 50 off the bench. Could also give you 0
