Should the Chicago Bulls try to add a player who’s better than anyone on their current roster? Uh, yeah. Yeah they should. You’re not asking the right question, though. It’s obvious they *should*. But what realistic trade could be worked out that send him to CHI? What would CLE want that CHI have?

With what though? They can’t trade their 2025, 2026, or 2027 1st rd pick.
I guess they could trade 2028 and 2030 1sts and like… Coby or Ayo. That’s probably a fair offer I guess, though losing one of them and future 1sts kind of kills your future.
I also don’t think Mitchell and DDR would be a great pairing, assuming in this scenario you are re-signing DDR.

Mitchell is way too expensive to trade for currently. I think he is better than anyone on our team but it’s simply not possible, and Mitchell alone doesn’t carry a team to anything given we have to give up players over draft capital.
If we are going for a Mitchell type player then I’d rather seek Trae Young, who will honestly cost like a third of what Mitchell will in a trade. We will all be deleting comments like crazy cuz that rat faced bozo is easily dislikeable when playing against. But, Ayo can’t hurt him if he joins us so.

Sure, but what is he going to be working with on this squad? We don’t have a rim protector

I stand by the opinion that we have arguably the worst pool of assets in the league, and there’s zero chance we would be able to outbid anyone for someone like Mitchell
Imo the only team with a worse collection of assets is the Wizards (edit and maybe the Blazers). Even teams worse than us like the Hornets have guys like LaMelo and BMiller, Pistons have Cade, Duren, Ausar, and a wealth of picks, Brooklyn has Mikal who they’ve turned down like 4 FRPs for. Only guys on our roster with decent value are Coby Ayo Pat and Caruso

Trade for Mitchell so he can leave in free agency the next off season? No thanks

Don’t know how we’d get him

Maybe I’m out of line but I say no. I’d rather we keep Demar, Pat, Coby, Ayo and ship the rest of the veterans for draft capital and build through the draft. Don’t get me wrong, Mitchell is a hell of a player but we’d have to give away what little future we have to get him. Would much rather we build this thing the right way.
Trying to fast track the process is precisely what got us back to being a mid team stuck in basketball hell just like we were with Jimmy Buckets. It’s been 7 years since that trade and we failed to improve from what the team was at that time. Trading for a star player like Mitchell just isn’t an option that will fix this team. At best we become a 2nd round exit with no future left and an aging second star in Demar. No thanks.

Let’s say the Bulls do trade for Mitchell. Now what?
LeakyBrainMatter
No they shouldn’t go for Mitchell. They should tear this roster down and stop being the definition of mid.
I’m sick of being stuck in basketball purgatory and anything we can do to get Mitchell is gonna keep us there.
He’s one of my favorite players and I’d love for him to be in a Bulls jersey under the right circumstances. Unfortunately we aren’t anywhere close to the right circumstances and it’ll keep us mid and waste his prime.

I would say no imo

Like the best possible trade scenario I can possibly come up with is this:
CHI get: Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen
CLE get: Zach LaVine, Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, and 1-2 1sts
Would either team do that? No clue. I have an extremely hard time imagining CLE would even listen to something that bad. But if they did, next year’s Bulls would look something like:
Donovan Mitchell / Lonzo Ball / Jevon Carter
Alex Caruso / Dalen Terry / Onuralp Bitim
DeMar DeRozan / Javonte Green / Julian Phillips
Patrick Williams / Torrey Craig
Jarrett Allen / Nikola Vucevic / Andre Drummond

Other then our 1st round pick this year we ain’t picking anywhere near the top for the foreseeable future. If you can get Mitchell that just postpones the rebuild lol.

Ignoring the fact we have terrible trade assets to make this work.
Only team that should trade for him is one that can 100% get an extension, and why on earth would he want to play for the Bulls?
