This isn’t really unexpected and I wasn’t expecting to compete next season, but still pretty disheartening to hear
Damezang
We didn’t start the tanking, it was always burning since the roster churning…
xXChickenravioliXx
Unfortunate but not surprising. Next season will be the last year of his contract, and I think he’s the cheapest coach by far.

No one should be surprised by this.
AceMcStace
This should be surprising to no one, he’s still under contract and Cronin wasn’t going to come out and say “Yeah this guy is getting fired”.
He’s good for the “tank” but I don’t know if I can justify another year of him “developing” scoot or any of the young guys. Chauncey needs to seriously overhaul the offensive scheme.
rolo9917
Guy has to be fired after next year right? I understand we have no expectations but at some point we need rookies to be coached correctly

Tank commander CB reporting🫡
Not surprising when the players seem to like him and he’s expiring. No reason Jody wants to put anymore money into the team. Also look at the Seahawks. Vulcan waited for Pete’s contract to be up
SPAREustheCUTTER
His contract is 4 years with a team option. We were absolutely using that as a “come in and win your job” scenario.

I really think the fanbase is just totally wrong on this one. Cronin continues to make good decisions. I’m generally a pessimistic fan and am feeling a lot better about the direction of the team than I have in a long time.
I’ll remind everybody this sub was convinced we needed to keep CJ for like 3 years after he should’ve been gone already. Also, there’s <10 fanbases that think they have a good coach.

I’m okay with Billups sticking around for a bit but I really think they need to gather picks and cheap young players with trying to trade Jerami and brogdon, okc literally has a blueprint out with how to execute a rebuild properly

We’ve got some dark years ahead lol

Will this be the season the TV broadcast finally starts showing his coaching record like they did for Stotts and every other coach in the league instead of his player stats? Tune in to find out!
Several-Estate7175
Saw that coming. Oh well. At least we’ll likely be a much more attractive destination for talented coaches in the 2025 off-season compared to this upcoming one. So it makes some sense in that capacity.
JupiterJonesJr
Good. The tank commander is back!!!
But please… make this the last season of this nonsense. I am a pretty patient man, but this rebuild is beginning to wear on even me.

this front office would never pay two head coaches.
ExileBoy101
Not surprised, last year of his contract and this team is going to be pretty woeful again next season, he’ll be a lame duck coach and probably won’t be back for 25/26

But I want someone to scapegoat now! Now now now!

I wouldn’t mind another top lottery pick

It makes sense as having him as coach is the easiest path to the number 1 pick.

Cronin’s just giving himself plenty of time to find a new coach is all
Zuldak
Chauncey will ask for a guaranteed contract. He knows the team is looking at another 25 win season unless a miracle happens. No reason for him to go down as one of the worst coaches in NBA history after he just got into the HOF

Not surprised. He will be let go heading into the all star break next season
PDXbarb84
Chauncey has just as much work on his plate this off-season as any player. That said, I’m sure it does bother him a great deal, all the losing. One major through line in his exit interview was how he thought he was going to be able to compete first and develop young guys second. Which is a little surprising to me given we had 5 rookies on this team. Anyone with a pair of eyeballs could see we were develop first, develop second, maybe compete a little third.
We’re headed into the draft with 4 picks, I suspect we’re going to use 3. Definitely using our 1st rounders, depending on who drops, probably using our first 2nd, and can easily see us trading the last pick. You can’t go into next season with 2 guys in year 3, 5 in year 2, and 3 rookies and be expecting to be a play in team. We’re absolutely going to stink next year, and won’t be decent for maybe 2 more years. Hope I’m dead ass wrong though.
Bieberkinz
I mean it just makes sense to keep him. Still not likely to compete for a playoff spot, the core for the future is still very young. Billups’ role currently is a bit of a stepping stone one, to educate the young players, get them to hone into something, and then we can figure it out from there.

Makes sense. They believe they can’t truly assess the team due to injuries I guess.

He’s saying that now. He has to. Doesn’t mean he’ll be back.

Get ready for another awful year that shows no development or progress, as people here praise g league level talent for their contribution to a tank, while we lose by 50. We aren’t sniffing the playoffs till like 2030, minimum.
