Steph on Wiggs: “What he has to do is not easy. I think that’s something people miss, he has to guard the best perimeter guy [&] we want him to be aggressive offensively as well…he understands how important it is to reach our full potential as a team & you’ve seen that over the last month or so.”

Wiggs is in his absolute prime, and on that contract. There’s no excuse for how inconsistent he’s been all season.
Curry is ever the diplomat though.
Not many people understand what it takes to guard the best player every single night. Wiggs is also not a ball dominant player. They need to get him going early.
Yet they gave Poole a larger contract
There’s a reason why we are OK with Dray scoring 10 pts and why we don’t expect Steph to carry a heavy defensive load. It takes a lot to be impactful on both sides of the floor.
Wiggs isn’t considered to have played a good game unless he scores 17+, plays elite defense, and gets 7+ rebounds. Like Steph says, it’s not easy!
Notice how GSW is not scoring as much but restricting opposition’s points…. The defensive intensity has lifted and this will always reduce offensive efficiency. Anyone who balls knows playing A+ perimeter defence is exhausting. This is why Klay was special with his 2 way defence and offence. Same with playoff Wiggs and Iguadala back in the day. We need that prototype 2 way star. This is why GSW is fine tuning their line-ups trying to find the best combination to win now but may lack that guy…As good as Kuminga has been, he is mistake prone in clutch situations. A real flow killer. So the man is Wiggs who has done it before and I believe he is our key to any decent finals run. The best we can do as fans is support him and wish him the best and pray for his health. We just can’t do this without Wiggs!
