He’s terrible off the ball, even worse on defense, and people don’t like him. Hard hard hard pass

  2. People say the defense would be an issue but did anyone watch CJ this year lol

  3. I don’t know. I really want to improve the perimeter defense. HERB needs a starter that he can depend on, because this One Man defense doesn’t work in the starting unit. Young really doesn’t provide that. So, we have a volume shooter in a set that needs to be super aggressive when playing together. That’s almost not sustainable

As much as people talk about us needing a true point guard, Zion at the point is more than sufficient. We need to just surround him with shooters.

  5. FookOuttaHear

I traded for him in 2K last night and the Pels immediately had 65 wins lmao. That’s my scientific data that this would work.

I wouldn’t hate it.. bringing a player of Trae’s caliber to NOLA is something that doesn’t happen often so it would be fun to watch.

But I think we could probably find someone who would make just as significant of an impact for a lot less money/trade value.

  7. You guys are so negative about any potential point guard options. Do you want to stay garbage forever? There’s barely any elite point guards who are good on defense.

  8. Still_Sir_1377

No , we need a real point guard, who makes everyone else better

  9. Still_Sir_1377

Alvarado should start and bring CJ off the bench!, better rotation for the team

But as a lot of people point out, Zion isn’t great off the ball. This dude is a huge ball hog, who chucks a ton of shots. The people here constantly bitch and complain about would bitch about Trae even louder

  11. TrusttheProcess13

Please no. Yes he’s better than CJ but why not go for bridges and improve on defense and go full point Z/Point BI and help keep one star on the floor the whole year with Bridges? A defensive backcourt of Mikal and Herb would terrify teams

  12. SquintGrisslefoot

I’ve been saying this only recently but trade CJ, JV, Naji, and first rounder or two for Trae Young and another role player on the Hawks. This would actually free up cap space for us so we could look at picking up another big in the offseason or give the contract extension some of our role players deserve.

  13. Stretchgordon

“He’s bad on defense” we need his playmaking and offense fuck his defense

  14. definitelydidntcheat

He was 8th in total assists this year while playing only 54 games on a 36-46 team. He would raise our ceiling so much.

I think on net the team would be better with a deal centered around Trae and Bi. It also solves the Herb/Trey conundrum cause Trae allows both to start.

    Trae/Herb/Trey/Zion/Rim Protecting Athletic Center

Bench mob: whoever remains of Jose/Dyson/Hawk

I think that is a team that can do some real damage in a tough West. Has two lengthy defenders to cover up for Trae and Zion is the X factor defensively. It also creates more defined roles and doesn’t have the issue of too many guys(JV, Zion, BI, CJ) needing the ball in their hands to be effective. Trae and Z are the ball handlers and everyone else plays well off that.

Think a lot of people trying to make the perfect the enemy of the still really good.

Keep in mind we are also New Orleans, money matters. Trae has 3 years left on his contract after this season and is on Zions timeline. BI is expiring and CJ is 32 with two years left on his contract.

just because he gets 10 assists a game doesn’t mean he’d be a good fit, Zion has never been good playing majority off ball (hence why stan when full point zion) and Trae doesn’t work well off ball either.

and now while i agree we need a better playmaker than CJ, here’s some stats that scream why he’s best playing with guys who don’t need the ball.

Trae Young Usage rate the past 4 years, 34.6%, 37%, 39%, 37.9%, each of those year he has ranked at least fourth amongst guards for usage (the 39% year which was his best year he was ranked 1st).

So you’d want a pg who’s better the more he has the ball in his hand?

He also turns the ball over way too much, averaging for the last four years 4 turnovers a game, and leading the league in turnovers 2 twice already. Also with a turnover rate of 16.5%

He’s not an efficient shooter either, although he takes about 6 to 8 threes, depending on the year, his average for his career is 35% and every other year he seems to have a real regression with his % (37.3, 33.5, 38.2, 34.3) and its the same with his fg% and efg%.

Also you’d think being a high assist guy that a lot of his passes would be lobs or passes to his forwards/big men, well the highest pass frequency of his big men is clint capela at 8.6% and okungwu at 6.7% most of the guys in the top 5/6 of his passes are to his shooters, so to me it feels like zion would be iced out more than anything

Just for a comparison BI passes the ball to Z 12.5% (top 4) and Cj is at 16.9% (No.2)

not to mention his defence, with him on the court the hawks gave up +4 more points, with CJ is +0.2 so there is a large difference, if anyone watched that bulls hawks game and thought that level of defence wouldn’t be a problem, i don’t know what to say

What we need if it’s gonna be an upgrade is a low usage point guard who has a high assist%, someone like Jrue (ironic we traded him) or Mike Conley.

The entire offense would look better with an actual point guard

  18. poorwhitecash

He’s in my top 3 least favorite players to watch. Every single drive is 100% foul baiting. He is good and would probably be a pretty good fit here. But man I would hate to have to watch him every game.

  19. JayDogon504

They gave up 40 points in the first quarter like it was nothing with him back against Chicago. It also was clear as day Dejounte was better than him in that game. He was voted the most overrrated player in the NBA by his peers in a landslide last season despite averaging like 26 and 10 which goes to show you how he’s viewed league wide. Unless you have a truly elite defensive big like Wemby or AD he’s not worth the gamble. I don’t wanna hear about that lucky ass conference finals run either where he went up against 3 of the biggest playoff sellouts in NBA history so far in Doc Rivers, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Philly lost that series much more than Atlanta won it. He’d bring some nice fireworks and offensive explosions for sure but ultimately we’d never go anywhere with him on the team and there’s a big risk he’d eventually be unlikeable by fans and teammates

  20. One of my favorite things about the Pels is that we don’t flop all over the court or play for contact. I would be hard pressed to watch Trae try to draw fouls every game. I cannot stand that ugly ass play style.

  21. JB_JB_JB63

Someone a bit like Trae but not Trae would be ideal I think. Almost certainly not available but VanVleet is who I’d like to see.

  22. ToothEducational7795

If we ever get a PG, I think Dejounte is a way better fit than Trae. He provides defense, athleticism and he can get assists too. Plus he’s cheaper than Trae I believe. Trae I think would be a great fit around defensively talented bigs such as Wemby, Embiid, Giannis, Bam etc. We already have 0 rim protectors in this team, when a guy gets past Trae in the perimeter it’s over. So, I think I would prefer Dejounte if we get a PG this off-season.
