Nick Nurse vs Erik Spoelstra Was Basketball Chess
Erik Spoelstra coached an absolute defensive clinic that caught the 76ers off guard, but Nick Nurse and his staff made all the right adjustments.

Let's be real, if Kelly didn't take out Jimmy buckets, Miami would have won.
DOC would never!
I watched this game last night and it was highly entertaining, despite being a bit of a defensive slugfest at times. Embiid wasn't really conditioned yet, as he was standing with his hands on his knees for most of the match. Still, his gravity opened up a lot of plays. The Heat really could have used more shooting, or more offense in general. I think Herro really did a good job given the circumstances of being basically the only creation on the Heat team. Butler was hurt during the game and visibly slower, though in true Butler fashion he still made some excellent defensive plays.
Still, against any other coach than Nick Nurse, the zombie Heat would have ran away with this game. I can't wait for their match against the Bulls, which would be another defensive minded game.
If Embiid can play himself into shape, the Sixers have a good chance of going far this year. I really love Oubre and Batum as flexible defensive wings, they were never a bad defensive team but now they cover the gaps quite a bit better and leave Embiid to protect the basket. It is not like they are incredibly deep, but the lineups that they do have are quite strong.
What a great breakdown highlighting coaching instead of hoop heroics. Great job.
great video as usual, bring back the old background music though please. Used to be epic and now is meh.
Herro is kinda garbage. Dude always does terrible on the playoffs
I love basketball chess
I doubt Spoelstra deserves much praise for Heats playoff recent playoff runs. Jimmy Butler just tends to channel MJ and carry them on both ends of the floor
Both these teams healthy this season would have been in top 4 seeding for the East and be dangerous for playoffs. Injuries wrecking both though
Doc rivers loses this game by 30 points
Gotta love good coaching after years of Glenn rivers
Doc rivers would rather prepare his answers postgame than to prepare plays in game
That heat zone was horrible Batun exposed it
Tobias has been terrorizing Sixers fans for years. Hopefully last game was the nail in the coffin. Let him walk Daryl, PLEASE.
Who’d think the best move was benching Harris for Batum…checkmate
At 96 all Oubre never got both feet outside of the lane to reestablish, so that And1 should have been a turnover. Next play Herro has his wrist hit on the 3, you can see his wrist move on the reply as the ball leaves his hand. Few plays later was a back and back, which could have been a foul on 76ers for pushing him back.
I'm ok with it getting more physical, but that And1 should have been a turnover. Not a 76ers fan, just wanting refs to call it fair both ways in every game or Tim Donahue looks correct in the NBA being rigged for bigger markets. Also makes me realize the Nuggets might be done in by the Refs who work part time for the Lakers org.
Ngl this game brought me goosebumps. I haven’t seen a 6ers coach that could actually coach since I was a kid and Larry brown was running the show
everything changed when philly got their chicken
4th quarter why tf batum in 😂
Even though this was a rough start, this was the best game I’ve attended all year just in pure excitement
All that playoff heat hype never worked in Philadelphia
Great analysis. Best I’ve seen on this game. Thank you. Go Sixers. From Steve outta the Buckeye State.
The checkmate was Philly injuring butler
It wasn't… Spo played chess while Nurse was playing checkers. But, Jimmy got hurt.
It was a great matchup
Shame it was only a play in game not a series
Pain: Rajacovic is a good coach, but I miss Nurse.
Great breakdown, i love the slow motion pace so its easier to catch everything thats happening. Seeing the chess match develop is what makes these high stakes game so much fun to watch! I have a hard time seeing the sixers get past the Knicks but lets see what nurse comes up with
You earned a sub
lf Doc was still with the Sixers l can guarantee you Sixers lose that game 4/5 times.
Very good breakdown. Subscribed
Really wish the bucks would’ve gotten Nurse instead of hiring a rookie head coach and then dumping him for Doc. Doc would’ve lost the Sixers this game, and now we have that bum coaching our team😭
nurse is way better, spo is too overrated, without lbj spo doesn’t win shit, nurse is just different, heat is more of the culture as an organisation than the coaching
You forgot to mention the free chicken adjustment we made
Great breakdown!!
This is top analysis my man 👏
GREAT!!!!!!
Who is a better coach doc or nurse???
Now for yjr Nurse vs Thibs matchup, what's the over under guys averaging 40+ minutes?
7.5?
You forgot to mention the immediate game changing impact of brickin’ for chicken
Six of one, half dozen of the other. Doc Rivers never let Embiid being injured, keep the team from being competitive. The Sixers, when BIid was injured, were a whole lottery team under Nurse. I'm pretty sure Doc had a winning record without Joel for lots of games.
Great breakdown. 💯
1:57 yo😭
Wow bro this video taught me a lot about basketball plays, incredible how you know so much about basketball, would love for you to be one of our coaches, good break down of this game brother!!!
Batum knows how to make the coach happy and gives him more minutes lol
More like basketball “Connect Four” sorry but that was a game won by the coach who made the fewest mistakes lol
