What’s the best outcome for the Dubs with Chris Paul going into next season?

If you were **Mike D**, would you pick up his option?

Would you pick it up and trade him?

Would you let him walk for cap purposes?

It’s a team option. The Warriors are not going to pick that up. More than likely, he resigns with another team. I really liked how the second unit functioned with him running it. If he’s willing to come back at a very discounted price, but I’m not sure the Warriors even want to do that…

Vet min or trade. Next year will be the final year of his contract at 30 million not guaranteed.

That’s amazing for teams looking to unload a lot of salary. They’ll trade for him thereby getting rid of salary from those player/s, then they waive him, further freeing up 30 million from their books.

If he decides to come back with us on a vet min, that’s amazing. We saw the positive effect he has on the other guys just by teaching them and he can still play well, although I don’t think running him with Curry all the time is good.

Our issue I think (correct me if I’m wrong) is that even if we trade CP and get Klay to sign for let’s say 15 million a year. We’re still above the luxury tax. We’d have to somehow offload Looney or bamboozle Klay into signing for extremely cheap to be below the projected salary cap for next season.

This leaves us with the problem of we can’t just offload CP just to free up salary and sign someone, we have to trade for a player or a few role players because we won’t be allowed to sign players other than vet mins. Maybe a team with a star or quality role players that’s looking to rebuild/tank? I don’t know what our options are on that end.

Thank him for his time and helping in the development of podz. Trade him and try pick up a solid piece that helps balance the team better

CP must leave. It doesn’t matter how much his salary is next year. He didn’t even play badly and still has a lot left. But he doesn’t fit our team. MDJ said we need more positional size and if you look at the roster than can only mean a few spots..one of which is CP. He is just too old, too slow and to much of a specialist now.

  5. He is likely going to sign a value contract with a contender. Time is ticking on him getting a ring.

We’ll only pick up his option if there’s someone we can trade him for + who want an expiring contract.

Otherwise, FO will likely float the idea of staying with us for $25mil over 2-3 years and see what he thinks. Don’t think there will be many teams willing to pay more than that. Possibly SA to develop Wemby.

Dubs aren’t going to let him walk. They’ll pick up his contract and trade him at worst if he doesn’t renegotiate his deal. They way the Dubs will get player in return to help Steph compete for the next couple years. Letting him walk would only save Lacob $$$ and doesn’t improve the team. An i haven’t looked the cap but I believe they’re still over so Im not sure they can sign someone in the FA market if the do releases him.

Trade him for assets that we attach to another trade for a starter.

Keep Paul, Chuck out drey and klay. Get some good new players on the roster. Give kuminga moody more time. Otherwise it’s gonna be same result.

MDJ definitely gonna let him walk

    Nobody wants CP3 at 30M

    Nobody wants CP3 at 20M

All this trade him stuff is foolish

Podz will be the backup point; you can read that some in Podz and Steve’s exit interviews

CP3 never fit our team, it was an interesting experiment but at the end of the day was a net zero outcome in the W-L column.

CP3 wants a ring. He’ll probably go somewhere where the team is built with dominant younger players like Wemby or Paulo.

Best case scenario is you package his contract with Kuminga for a good player

  12. yer_oh_step

best outcome is he signs on a very cheap deal, hopefully a vet min and is our backup PG cant ask for a betterbackup

  13. OutsideTLane

Not re sign that contract. If he comes back at league vet minimum that would work

  14. Mysterious-Yak196

He’s gone he will probably sign with a contender like the nuggets and try to get one last try for a ring

No way warriors pick up his option. If he’s going to go into full ring-chasing mode, there are better options than the Warriors.

Literally the only chance he stays is if he likes it here more than he wants a ring.

  16. He should ring chase with another team. Love the work he’s done here with us this year, but we can’t afford him.

Gone, unfortunately we dont need him unless stephs legs are tired. Steph and moody are our pgs. We need size outside those two.

Denver is the team to beat, we dont have the size to beat them or the offensive fire power

The best outcome in my opinion is we decline the option, then he signs a much smaller one-year contract with us. Say around 10m.

It doesn’t seem likely, because he can go to a contender and try to finally get his first ring.

The only two things we have going for us are 1) according to him he likes it here and 2) we can offer more money than contenders.
