Kevin Durant as of right now **cannot** leave his contract until the **end of 2026’s season**. THE ONLY WAYS TO GET HIM OUT OF THAT CONTRACT WOULD BE A BUY OUT. You can do the math to see how much left is on that contract.
So, for those who are coming with the very low-effort “if KD….” posts, just know that over $100M at minimum would have to be bought out to get him on the free agency market this offseason. You’d have to convince the owner of the Suns two things:
– That you can’t market $100M out of KD
– That his contract is so ass that nobody would trade for KD
(both are silly as fuck. He’s not catching the buyout train)
OK, from there, you gotta wait for KD to become a free agent. OH, that’s at the age of…38. SO, the question then becomes “do you want a 38 year old KD on a roster where he more than likely will not have fresh legs to run a sprint-focused offense that the Thunder currently deploy. The term “dead ball” would be at play where you’re praying KD is just a pure spot shooter who can give you 15/night. Likely zero defense. Likely zero rim. Maybe layups. On old legs.
Folks, there’s nothing wrong w/conversation starters when you’re in a bar and you’re just shooting the shit, but when you get to a niche NBA sub you gotta at least come with **some** logic as you’re surrounded by posters who are here for a reason.
If you’re reading this and you’re still trying to do mental gymnastics, I’m sure KD himself would tell you to stop yourself. If you’re going “I was just bullshitting….” then I believe as a collective we’d humbly re quest you get the fuck on w/that bullshit as we’re trying to bathe in your young team’s greatness and not trying to relive that 2012 – 2016 era of pain.

Every post has been about trading for him. I’ve not seen one post about him being bought out or waiting until he’s an FA.
Saying there’s no logic to trading for him because you don’t want him back doesn’t mean it makes absolutely no sense if the package was minimal and didn’t touch the core (SGA/Chet/Dub/Dort). I’m not saying they should trade for him, but if anything were to happen, trading for him for those 2 years before Chet/JDub have to get paid would make the most sense since they could just let him walk when they’d need the space.
Also, believing you speak for an entire subreddit is weird lol
