**Disclaimer:** Not meant to take away from the daily bird raptor posts, just saw some people who wanted non-avian Dinosaur raptors, so I was inspired to make these posts since I’m a big paleonerd. This is not me trying to karma farm or be annoying, I just genuinely want to share some Dromaeosaurid facts with others.

**Description:** The biggest of all Raptors, Utahraptor stood at roughly 1.8 m (6 ft) tall and 5-6 m (16-20 ft) in length and would have lived roughly 139-134 million years ago. First described in 1993 from the Cedar Mountain Formation in modern day Utah, which would have been beachside property 134 mya. Due to its impressive size, Utahraptor is much more robust and sturdy compared to the majority of other non-avian raptors. Also unlike other dromaeosaurids, Utahraptor was an ambush predator, meaning it lays in wait for its prey, rather than chasing it down. Utahraptor is also one of the more popular dinosaurs in pop culture, though it has been heavily outshone by its smaller cousin, Velociraptor.

**Fun Fact:** Utahraptor’s species name, ostrommaysi, is named after famed paleontologist John Ostrom. However the discoverer of Utahraptor originally wanted to name it spielbergi, after the director of the original Jurassic Park movie.
