The best fit to win championships starting the upcoming season would be to pluck an unrestricted free agent with a good attitude who can be a mid sized shut down defender due to having great lateral movement. That way the Spurs could pretty much cover the ball or even the court mostly with two defenders. The shut down recruit would cover whoever the best scorer is on the other team. Lateral movement can make up for being too short sort of like Draymond is able to do. Wemby would be assigned to LOOSELY cover the lowest scorer allowing him to help clog the lane or a side of the court.
With Wemby hanging out in the lane, it kills the potently popular give-and-go play that can be so hard to cover effectively. Meanwhile, the other defender can go full "stop" on the giver. Furthmore, if the opposing team uses two player who are not covered by Wemby and the shut down man, Wemby is still hanging out nearby, in effect double teaming the "go guy."
It's possible that most teams will be scoring less than a hundred points a game. The only remedy would be for the refs to blow the whistle on Wemby over and over again to get him out of the game early. This will be a strategy if the Spurs games become unwatchable for the oppsing team's fans. We are talking about major seat side and TV revenues being impacted. The stations will get a refund from the NBA for not delivering the eyeballs.
You said they’ve asked about DJ yourself through other sources so what makes you think that they really didn’t want to acquire him. The bias is insane.

Wemby surpassed every expectation. Spurs probably expected him to be that good maybe late in year 2, so yeah, they will go for winning earlier.

DJ would be an awful fit. He’s proven that he’s too selfish, and not to the elite level that the Spurs need. And, of course, the culture fit is negligible.

Spurs are a draft organisation not a trade team it s harder to have a 3D winger than a point guard
Windhorst said in an interview that the Spurs will probably not make any big move this off-season. And I kinda agree with Windy, Spurs will most likely tank again for another season because the draft class in 2025 is said to be better and the Spurs have 5 picks in that draft.
