Offseason plans

Want to get a temp check on who we would like with our cap space this coming off szn. I see 4 realistic options for Morey to lean towards.

1. Trade/FA for aging star to try and get most out of embiid before injuries further dent his availability. (PG, KD, demar, butler)

2. Go get 3rd star younger than embiid to pair with maxey for the post-embiid era (Lauri, B Ingram, OG)

3. Run it back with different role players while keeping some positive role players from last szn (keep: oubre, hield, Lowry and Payne while getting a solid PG from FA or trade)

4. Trade embiid and hit reset with maxey as the franchise (which would be really fcking sad)

Personally I’m rooting for a KD trade because I as a fan would mortgage our future if it means Embiid has a real shot at a title. I also wouldn’t be upset with a Jimmy trade but I think Durant raises our ceiling more with him being much more available this szn then Jimmy or PG despite his less that stellar defensive ability. My dad wants BI as a 3rd star that is younger than embiid so we aren’t paying a 30+ yr old star again, but wanna hear y’all’s opinions cause this is a real exciting offseason for us.

KD is the only aging star I’m willing to trade all our assets for (that is if he asks for another trade so he can take the hardest road again)

For the young stars the Knicks are definitely giving OG Tobias money in the offseason so I don’t see us getting OG at all, Lauri is who I have my eyes on as he is also a 7 footer and adds size to the frontcourt, an elite shooter at high volume, and great rebounder too. He’s also a great finnisher at the rim and isn’t soft unlike Crumbl Cookie man

Lauri Markkanen would be a great replacement for Tobias

I would love to see them target via trades a SF and PF that would pair now on a team that wants to win and longterm with Maxey for when he is in his prime:

    Targets would be:

    – Deni Avdija

    – Lauri Markanen

    – Brandon Ingram

    – Jalen Johnson

    – DeAndre Hunter

    – Jonathan Kuminga

    – Mikal Bridges

    – Kevin Huerter

Would the Jazz accept a trade for Lauri if we offer every draft pick?

We won’t be contenders for a long time once Embiid retires as Maxey isn’t a number 1 level player. Only two guards 6’3 and under have won a championship as the guy and they are the best pull up shooter ever in Steph & a top 5 playmaker in Iasiah Thomas. Maxey struggles at both, shooting 26% from pull up 3s in the playoffs and shooting them poorly in the regular season too so I doubt he’s going to be the third one. Also he’s only a scorer. So they have to get these final years of Embiids prime right otherwise it could be another 20 years until we actually have a really good chance of competing for a chip.

Number four is out because no team is going to give the value back for Embiid with his penchant and history of injuries so we’ll just discount that and make it a little easier. We need a good two-way wing i.e. Paul, George or a dawg like Jimmy Butler if he would even consider coming back after Toby, you chose him over me debacle…the bottom line is we need an athletic wing Paul George or KD would be nasty.

  7. If heat want to move on from Jimmy, you take him back in philly asap and try to make one run in the next 2 to 3 years. He fits so incredibly well with Maxey and Embiid. I have doubts that miami will make him available though.

I want to stay far away from pg3.

Of course I would rather a younger player on a long contract like Lauri markannen or mikal bridges but why tf would either team trade them to sixers who don’t have great assets?? Sixers didn’t even have enough to start a conversation with raptors about OG this season.

At least with Jimmy it would make more sense to send him to us; not many teams will be fighting for him, and Jimmy and Embiid are buddies and would love to play together again

I’m very hopeful for next season, I believe we need continuity with our group. I love Joel and Maxey, I think Oubre fits in nicely. Hopefully we can get Payne, Hield and Batum back for cheap.

Now here it starts being tricky: Nurse can be quite stubborn with Lowry, as much as I like having a Philly native on the team Kyle is cooked and shouldn’t be seeing serious minutes at all. He’s fine as a veteran off the bench player, someone that can help out when injuries come. I don’t want to see Nurse overplay him once again, don’t bring him back.

Melton – would love him for cheap IF he can be the player he was before the injury. I’m afraid that after a back injury we can’t expect that. Worth a roster spot, but not a dime over the one year minimum.

Elephant in the room: Tobi is a decent starter, $24m-$34m for two years is something I believe he is worth to us. He’s definitely getting more and we could both use a change of scenery. Let him walk.

Get Biombo as a backup and let Payne work with him. Maxey is too young and inexperienced to be the 2nd whistle to Jo AND leader of the bench units. Let them continue working on their two man game and find some chemistry for the bench without them.

I know many of you are shooting for Lauri, but we’re not getting him. You know who out of Utah is going to ask for seventeen picks. Same goes for Bridges.

PG is too much money, same goes for KD and Harden.
