What is the Jazz’s timeline for true contention and who is the star?

Leif Thulin discusses what is next on the Jazz’s ascension to contending in the NBA Playoffs. He addresses the glaring question of who can lead the Jazz there. Is it Lauri or Keyonte? Or is it neither? Leif then breaks down the 2024 top flight of Draft Prospects featuring analysis on Alexander Sarr, Nikola Topic and Zacharie Risacher. Lastly, Leif dissects what allowed Denver to overcome the 20 point deficit in order to beat the Lakers and how can the Jazz use Playoff basketball to form their moves this offseason.

  1. Love the show! Can we do a gofundme to get you and David a 4k camera , halo light, and mic? The content is so good, and it's getting let down by the poor production quality.

  2. There's no plan. If Danny Ainge says there's no plan, then why wouldn't we believe him? If there's no plan, there can't be a timeline for the plan. As far as the benefits of tanking – Victor Wembanyama may be a generational player or even the greatest player of all time. But pretending it "has already payed off" for a team that repeated as the worst record in the west and won exactly as many games without Victor last year is not rational. It's a cautionary tale that if you tank your team too much they may be stuck on the bottom regardless of the talent you bring in. Meanwhile, we are all adamant that Markkanen is a #2 star but not a #1 star so we need to draft somebody better and take a chance on developing them. Yet every team in the league would love to get Markkanen. So we're going to give up our only real star player in order to gamble on yet more draft picks. The Jazz drafted three promising players last year and we still don't even know if they will be good. If the Jazz can't convince free agents and stars to want to come to Utah then that's a front office failure not just "a fact of life." If they make it clear that they're tanking next year they're going to lose revenue and fans and those things are not any more guaranteed to come back than a first round draft pick is guaranteed to produce results. I think too many people are treating this as if it's NBA2K where you can skip through some lousy years in a couple of hours while securing the top pick in 1986 and 1987 so you can scoop Jordan and Malone on to the same team. These years don't come back for fans and for every Jordan we think we might get in the draft there are three Dominique Wilkins's and two Sam Bowies. Deliberately piloting the team into the toilet for two years (or 8) gambling on draft picks does not promise success but it does promise that you will destroy your fanbase.

  3. After watching two years of this current roster and thinking Danny pulled a fast one on everyone, I’m not quite sure what the future holds for them. It seems unclear and no plan at all

  4. Instead of tanking again why don't we just use some amount of our 1st round picks to trade up in next years draft? Do teams in the NBA not trade up into the top 5 picks anymore? Or are teams just not willing to move off of their top picks? Because if the Jazz aren't able to find an already existing superstar player to trade for, then they'll have to do it in the draft. What would it take to trade up in the top 5 of 25'?

  5. SAdly Jazz cant just hope to get another star. We dont even know what Keyonte will be. Perhaps just a role player or coming at benc.
