Lakers should go after this guy

I’ve always been a fan of TJ McConnell since his Arizona days, but now seeing his performances in the playoffs this year really has me thinking that he’s the perfect guard the Lakers could utilize. He’s great at playmaking & can get steals. Despite being a little shorter than most PG at 6’1, he has heart & gives it his all. This season he’s been averaging 10.2 PPG, 2.7 REB, 5 AST, shooting 55% from the field, while averaging only 1 foul & 1 turnover per game. He doesn’t shoot a lot of 3’s but imo they wouldn’t need him to. He can be the guy who creates smart plays for his teammates, rather than them relying on LeBron to do so much of that. He could fill the same role that Rondo was in back in the 2020 championship run. I think the Lakers key flaws in their roster at this point is them not having a backup dependable guard & lacking a legit paint protectors at the 5, while putting AD back at the 4. The only downside is TJ isn’t a free agent until 2025. Should the Lakers target him or go after someone else? Let me know what you guys think.

I’m watching Minnesota destroy everyone with length and size. No more small guards please

I hate digging this one up, but he’d have been a salary-matching throw-in for the Turner/Hield deal I wanted 2 years ago. C’est la vie.

I feel like we’re in a Height > Heart situation currently.

Yeah cool but we also need Myles Turner in the package.

What a classy addition to the team he would be, but no thanks.

No he’s too small. And if we got him, he would almost certainly want to start otherwise why leave Indiana.

I’d like a stretch big, defensive guard, and an upgrade at the wing for our offseason priorities

I thought the Lakers should have signed him five years ago when he was a free agent. Great role playing bench player who brings a lot of energy with a little grit and attitude.

how classy would a 3 guard rotation be with TJ, Austin and Alex next year

Alec Caruso needs to be looked at, not this guy.

Austin Reaves but way more inconsistent and way smaller

I’ve seen him pass up open threes. No thsnks. We need shooters if we’re getting guards. Proper scorers.

I don’t know why but I’m liking the cut of his jib, would fit right in here

Of all the dorky guys in all the league, TJ McConnell is far and away the dorkiest.

Almost got me. That’s not a real player

Fuck that dude. Glad D’lo hit the 3 pointer against him in summer league against the sixers

Pacers aren’t gonna let him get away.

Lakers are bad in defense. Offense is fine. If rui can play defense like Jade McDaniel, lakers would have won this year.

Defense needs coverage(if it is spread out) and pressure.

Lakers can’t cover, can’t put pressure.

Timberwolves know how to cover and put pressure.

He doesn’t score … assist only lakers need Donovan Mitchell and a defensive minded pg get Schroeder back
