The Oklahoma City Thunder dominated the Dallas Mavericks in game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals, and we got to see the OKC Thunder defense in action against one of the best offensive teams in the NBA.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a monster 29-point performance, but what stood out the most was how OKC managed to stifle the Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving-led Dallas Mavericks. Here’s how they did it.

  1. They’re tryin to induce jump shots bcuz they lack interior defense. Good scheme against Gafford and a Rookie

  2. Dallas gotta run more empty side pnr to remove the help or some off ball action between the 2 wing players when OKC defenders sag off them.

  3. Aydo! Ben jus did a similar breakdown ova on @ThinkingBasketball
Til Kleber comes back w/the hot hand, keep making those non-Hardaway role players shoot that mf. & even HE might not change life for em

  4. Honestly this has been the blueprint to beat the Mavs in playoffs for Lukas entire time there. High pick and roll with 3 guys standing around every possession just doesn't work against very good teams. Kyrie is just a worse version of Jalen Brunson at this point in his career who can't really play off the ball. OKC is just a better team and they have been all year.

  5. Yes, but“` any team would play zone against the mavs, every single coach in the whole basketball world would do so, the mavs are built in a very specific way, that all their disadvantages on offense end would be exploited by zone defense. And unlike the clippers, thunders don't have to play harden who refuse to run zone in his whole career.
