[Applause] in order for the magic to work you have to truly believe in the magic hey magic fans and welcome to another episode of let’s talk magic a magic an Orlando Magic podcast uh today we are going to be talking targets for free agency And Trades but firstly and in the first time in forever I feel like I should break into a su from Frozen there um but it’s the four of us we are back together so how we doing boys Gary you doing well mate well I’m just thinking Frozen big and now it’s took a new POS Iceland it’s the thing in the in the states isn’t it buying frozen bacon for the wife boade as well you the ones should coming on us sweet bacon it’s my new nickname I thinking the slice uh next season he’s ding metal sweet we’re going early G how you doing mate good mate Friday weekend’s ahead of us we is done for a week so uh yeah try to play my friend me sou it’s how you back wa well I had to miss last week because you know um been bit busy but yeah really good really good and making his long long awaited return Mikey clar how you doing mate I’m doing well mate thank you it’s um it’s been a bit of a crazy month or two as you know got a newborn baby fan base I have yeah as as they would say in Frozen they’ll be magic they’ll be fun there certainly been some of that in the last month but um yeah it’s all good mate thank you it’s good to be back excellent excellent right well let’s get into it I think boys um we’ve all heard Jeff welman speaking about bringing in High character guys pre viously that’s been in relation to the draft and that criteria I think is also applied in respect of any other transaction that we do um once we extend jayen sugs Fran vogner and Paulo banero the team are certainly going to have to deal with the salary cap issue and so if we are to bring in another expensive player I think the team has to be sure that it’s worth the investment there’s three areas that we’re going to talk about tonight the first one being that position the General um we all know playmaking at times was a weakness for the magic during the 2023 24 season uh it was exposed a little bit more during the playoffs um so we need somebody that can get defense going get Al FRS some easy shots potentially stretch the floor and allow jayen probably to move back to his natural position as as the starting shooting guard so Bo there’s lots and lots of names out there both in Pre agency and uh being suggested as potential trades for us so Mikey you’ve not been with us for a while so let’s let’s hear some thoughts from yourself MCH who who would you like to talk about first of all who’s who’s who’s grabbing your attention the you’ve given us so floor General go for it mate I think I think probably tyus Jones is probably a good place to start it was somebody we were linked with at the at the trade deadline somebody that think the magic have got their eye on guys played well for the Wizards this year 20 28 years old um I think he somewhat still F fits the timeline um I I I just think you need go on I thought you said something G sorry i s you want do this I saw you [Laughter] are well we met the boat didn’t we a couple of years ago we had bacon and a Clark on the roster Jones has uh said that ship sail bait it too late but um you definitely got a Jones you definitely got to make a Jones Jersey for sure but um no I just think for for somebody who’s probably going to be a bit more affordable without maybe making a big splash I think tus Jones is probably a really good a really good Target for the magic I mean he’s had really good season I said for for Washington as you put p and the stats 12 points per game uh seven assists it’s got one of the highest uh assist turnover ratios in the League this year um really efficient player um I wouldn’t necessarily if he fits the the physical attributes in terms of size and length and versatility on the defensive end but in terms of somebody who can set the table and set the offense I think Tyler Jones be a really solid addition um but yeah so so if you can add tus Jones this this summer I think that’s going to be a good starting block for me so G I’m going to come to you mate because um we all know you are very firmly in the camp of a certain Markel faults and I don’t think any of this conversation that we’re having where you where we’re talking about particular positions I don’t think it’s a slight on anybody that we actually have as opposed to seeing where we could go and going forward and we’ve all said before on the Pod that there could be players that we love that we have personal attachments to moving on and no longer having a place in this team so G blor General where would you think on you know guys that are available to trade yeah I mean I mean I’ll read out the the names you’ve yeah so was for CJ M colum and last know you said we had a trade uh with his 30 million uh Contra uh Trey young is another one uh he’s going to cost an AR and the leg uh but obviously we all know what Young’s capable of d’o Russell is interesting work I’ve never been to d’o Russell F uh as play to be honest with you uh his streety uh down you know doesn’t play inous defense you know just mik just mention that tyus tyus Jones is in that same mod as well he doesn’t play that deep deepend Z and she don’t get that with him um the joh Murray again you have to trade uh assets to to match his salary that’s something I think we’re really going to struggle with I think this is why we’re not going to give some trade to any of these players because all of our sort of larger salaries are coming off the blocks this year um if if you decide to bring to Engles that I think because we’re just uh opting to to to give him the second year we TR tra it you know in thec January um and that’s just from um back play 2K uh Jordan pool’s another one yeah even you mentioned had down you with the Wizards uh but I think his contract is absolutely exous off top of my head so it’s not something we really want toide into but say that look your Stat or 24 24 years old uh you seen him you know like up in the past but as you say it’s a disastrous season and Mikey just mentioned that pick the bunch St for me sorry Jones from this you know uh section um solid um you know it’s a low risk and signing that one I think you could get him a reasonable uh salary um and isn’t there a couple other stuff I I won’t say more like d off his um five is two s on that best of me I will be getting a little better than Mar Fox a healthy Mar Fox after reasonable price in terms of uh being able to do play making uh let seeo Jak B finishing the run the r very nice Boke about this last week um in that TJ McConnell kind of role he’s not a starter off the bch we seeing the sucess TJ M out in the playoffs uh be you know the qu p is that something he’s capable of doing then I bring him back I don’t think this class of three agents and that these guards are overpaying for well Gary I’m going to come to you then on the this the final two names that g hasn’t mentioned are both names that are more Come From the Bench veteran experience so those two names that have I should say the that this list I’ve drawn up isn’t people I’m necessarily saying I think we should go for they are not necessarily people that we’ve been linked with in rumors but it’s also paired from fre agency lists and also various articles that I’ve seen around saying that this would be a better option than x y or Zed we could look at bringing this guy in so with that c these two names are Russell Westbrook who is a free agent and Chris Paul uh potentially available via trade both as dies to come in and potentially come off the bench what what would be your thoughts on either of those Gary um I don’t see you’re scor for Russell Westbrook um because I don’t think Russell Westbrook’s going to satisfy the three point shooting that the magic are going to want so whereas he’s a veteran presence I think he’s a character guy I think he’s someone who can bring a lot your organization I just don’t see the magic going in for that given how Westbrook shoots the three doesn’t space the Floyd actually answer to the problem so for me I don’t I’d be very surprised if Westbrook was there unless he was taking some kind of ridiculously low offer which wouldn’t make sense I can’t see us trading for Chris Paul see what I potentially could see is if the worriors bought Chris Paul out Rolando I could see that happening you know because I think we are a lot more attractive of proposition now six weeks ago because in burn the playoffs could C the hard times but I saw that um the van caral J Williams debate come up again on Twitter another that was a debate begin with but it’s it’s really not a debate out Banker’s really solidify himself as as a legitimate All-Star level performer one of the guys who’s seen as the future of the league given what he’s done in the playoffs Chris Paul therefore becomes valuable to Orlando because of what he could do for Anthony black what he could do for jet Howard what he could do potentially for Cole Anthony still what he could you know he has value in the magic in that way and he does kind of fit that even he’s old by NBA terms he fits what Paulo’s talking about out as a two-way guy for me both ends of the floor so if you I don’t think we bring Jo Engles back if that was the case but he would have had a lot of value and I’ve said it before look what Chris Paul did to sh gild you Alexander hardly hardly was down at Chris H I got singer magic at on a buyout but could I say the magic trading straight up for Chris Paul no um I don’t see the magic making that many trades actually I think he would cheaper option of those two out to those two I think he’s the Chris Paul is considerably the cheaper option and for me personally I think he’s also the preferred option of those two uh if if if we are to have somebody come in as a backup uh to give a voice of experience and be able to you you we saw Chris Paul starting for Golden State a few times last season um and it was really injuries that actually stopped that continuing to happen so I think he he would be able to offer a c a huge back catalog of experience to as you’ve already said Anthony black in particular um he still got exceptional Court Vision he would be a great option to put alongside that second unit which is already one of the best in the league I see this point if we had a if we had a healthy 39 years old Chris Paul in the Cleveland series I think we’d have SU game seven I think that’s a very fair point I think that’s a very fair point but I’m Gary I’m gonna ask you on the actual names if we are looking floor general for starter who would be your goto out of those names who would you like price I would go for tyus Jones and look I don’t see Tre young as a choice yeah I’m struggling to see dejur as a choice unless it’s going to be something I think that first pick could change a lot for atanda because even if the first pick’s solid if the first picks a Brandon Miller that will contribut it because he did well in his first year without being chatr or PA Bank Caro or that boosts Atlanta boost Atlanta so I’m wondering if they’ll stick or that they’ll want something more than they would have if they were going to blow it up I don’t think it necessarily makes sense to have a fire sale if you’re at now Trey young they’re not going to give away so if Trey young goes people are going to have to then think themselves do you want to give up France V do you want to give up jillen SGS because that’s going to be part of the deal I don’t personally and tyus Jones the rumors were around trade deadline that he could have been had quite cheap we were went be looking at him is he going to be a two weird is he going to be the defender not really for me from what I’ve seen him play but I would take tyus Jones over D’Angelo Russell um every day of the week because I know I’ve had on T4 where say he’s not to me the Angelo Russell and people’s pointed out games again he just seems to whenever I see him play unless there’s been like an aame against the magic when I’ve cheed in in Yugo games I’ve never been sat there going wow I wish we had D’Angelo Russell that’s with his assist to turnover ratio and his three-point shooting at least satisfies two areas that we have problems with in the playoff I mean he is Paul go Mike I was just going to say that I think I know we’re going to talk about other positions a little bit later on but are we in agreement that this is probably upgrading the point guard position is probably the most important thing for the magic to do this offseason now bringing fults back I’m I’m not against that at all but I see fults as as a backup point guard so in terms of upgrading that position I think the point guard’s the most important upgrade we need to make of the players on this list pool yeah which one do you actually think fits the profile for what the magic want the most if if if on this list if you if you take if you take salary and all that sort sort of stuff away the actual player which one do you think fits the best with with what we got out of those I would go muray out of those I would go muray um six seasons 27 years old um as has been said by a lot of people the last time he was a pure point guard the lead the lead guard primary ball handler um he was named an Allstar he was in um NBA teams as a result 21 That season with the Spurs he averaged 21.1 points 9.2 assists 8.3 rebounds and two steals per game um we all know he brings defense we’ we’ve seen that um and he’s very capable of creating offense for others and his own shot as again we have seen uh at our cost a couple of times last season the cost is what is concerning as far as going through t on Mor um they him and Trey young just haven’t jelled um like like you said Garett I think that them Landing the number one pick has actually removed us has been a very good trade position for them because they need less draft Capital which is what we are riching so I I don’t think he’s necessarily the one there are other players as we come further down when we talk about the shooting that could potentially fit in fit in this list as well um but these are kind of the more what of the best phrase pure point guard I would rather have somebody that can actually do both but off that list Mor do you is Chicago lost to Atlanta in the player game I bet Chago they’ll be laughing they’ll be dancing thank you Chicago I mean coming B coming to the draft you have to feel I suppose in some ways you’ve got to feel for Detroit because for another year they Dro massive amount of places incredible I feel sorry for them I don’t feel sorry for all oh God SP fans we really are the worst well we’re we’re the ones rebuilding correct and they’ve really botched theirs haven’t they they really have what about another option what about Patrick Beverly I can’t say it without laughing I will say this when we when he came to us I wish we’d have kept him at that point I wish we’d have kept him and I still think he could have offered us something I still think he would have been that veteran voice uh who could help I do think he could have done something I mean there were other names on there that I could have included you could have I could have thrown in a James Harden and wored to others um but they’re not realistic though are they no no no no so yes okay what about you then M you’ve introduced P Beverly no no no absolutely not no no but I think what I think as it stands because look it’s only what’s today it’s only the 17th of May like a could change between now and the first of July in free agency and and around the draft but right now I think what we know we want to upgrade the point guard position but all these names I think what it proves is there isn’t an obvious standout candidate you can go right that that person’s the perfect place player plug and place next to jayen Suggs and France and Paulo um if that player’s not there then you could see a stop Gap like a Chris Paul if he gets bought out but yeah I just think tyus Jones is probably the safest bet at the moment for me yeah I can see that off of those names I can see that mate also probably for efficiency and fit the cheapest option but he would have I think the defense would potentially be an issue for for the Magic’s identity and our front office actually looking and thinking that’s the guy that we could we could use unless it’s just that he’s been on a bad team and he’s actually a better Defender than we think we’ve been playing next to Jordan Paul for a start you could be overed let’s be honest exactly right we’re going to now talk about B I’ve called scoring the ball um and I think that in here there is one name that would have fit in the previous section particularly uh who we will no doubt talk about let’s let’s the reason that we’ve got to talk about three-point shooting and scoring the ball is that the mic magic finished the season as one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the league it hurt them in the playoffs I think we all agree the offense would be much smoother if Paulo was surrounded by players who can stretch the floor it would allow him room to work um having one solid shooter I don’t think he going to be enough I think we need to be looking to add further so I think we’re all in agreement that we expect the magic to change this during the summer so G yes talk talk to me talk to me Goose so so you’ve given us a list of them now start with start with the name start with the name that we keep getting linked with first yeah yeah I’ll start with I got with Anthony SS first okay um he’s was he the name that you wanted to add to the first S as well that’s that’s the name that I would have put in potentially put in the first list as well absolutely so he’s 24 fifth year in the league shooting D capable of putting that you know big numbers uh on the same timeline as all of the young guys obviously these is he’s commanding 25 million in salary I think he’s got two years left on his deal so it’s going to be one of those we going have to trying match salaries uh and whatnot with the Portland fail blers probably give them uh a few picks we talked about this on the trade deadline kind of special we did uh then we were afraid that Porton would be insistent on a cising pill and that would be the Andre Eaton and his horrible contct um but in terms of you know shooting uh 3.43 per outing 38.5% 22.6 uh qus per game scoring and the last two the high qu final assist b g to do a bit of everything there to say to orando to Anthony Mr hard way um for me he’d be the idea if the PR is right and that you know I’m to go through a tle more players now uh on all to agreement at the end but for me Anthony simers is probably the one of the last out of the bench in s with uh onity and what he’s table are doing with uh you know I the same age yeah Gary I’m going to come to you about an that continue to gets link with us um available by a free agency uh and potentially an expensive option I think Klay Thompson what would be your thoughts mate well I think people need back we talked a bit about this last three me and G and I think people just need to accept that we are not getting option b CLA Thompson or Allstar CA Thompson anymore you’re getting a guy who would be third or fourth on the magic offensively it’s what he wants in terms of money could I say the magic silent Thompson possibly I I I could see it I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility because it’s an attractive free agent destination and even as he is now he does solve problems of three points shooting veteran presence someone who’s been there and won it all um the volume he can shoot threes in obviously last game for the worriors wasn’t great so he fits all of this however if he’s going to come in and demand Allstar money or foure contracts no um G mentioned it last week if it was a two-year contract that actually might be serviceable which the him and Paul George you probably put under that Banner of players who are going to be on the downside but I just don’t see that the magic front office throwing out a four-year contract and putting ourselves where we’re C locked for somebody who’s given us a points per game in three years time that’s a night bear scenario and then you’re back in that position of offering people tactics and stuff to take people off your hands and then you may be that locked in that you got someone like Paulo who might walk I mean I in putting this together I didn’t realize that his stats were I think they were better than I thought they would be for the season I’ll be honest with you I didn’t realize that he um in take in his 268 made threes that was the fourth most in the league last season I didn’t realize that um 38.7% from three last season what what a thought at all he’s far from a BM he’s just is he going to come in and demand Allstar money because there is no upside to clear Thompson as a player out that isn’t there so it’s he’s got to be seen as a l player if he comes in if he’s a ro player and you put you T out in the corner no one’s leaving him alone this is the thing look look at what we got from Gary Harris in the playoff and look at what you could get from CLA you’re right G nobody’s going to say all well we’ll just leave CLA Thompson unlocked out there whilst we try and throw a triple team with Paulo Bank Caroll because all Paulo’s going to do is he’s going to find him each and every time and you’re going to die by threes and that’s probably for Clear THS the you Leal life it’s been I think the magic are being used as a pawn right not because we’re the cat room we’ve got a keal is not where someone’s going to go why would you go to Orlando it’s actually now it’s back to the oh there’s no stay attack there think about the weather think about the lifestyle look at the upside of this team could you be the guy who takes into East finals or further this has happened before when they’ve had Shack anded why how and that’s the type of things you’re hearing now but I just it’s not like we’re signing Horus Grant or rard Lewis where Horus G was in his prime when we signed in and Rashard Lewis was coming into it it’s a different it’s different you You’ mentioned him and I’m gonna ask you about him as well Gary um for the same reason that’s clay that’s Kay Thompson fre agent uh we are being mentioned as the possible suit to for him um and in that same way I think that there’s that usage by certain interested parties for Paul George to create a market but what’s your thoughts on Paul George Gary Paul George years old was like him signing with us when you say with the cers not for probably on a power Boston next season that’s all good Paul like Paul George was an excellent player he’s been a tremendous player and if you if you had a guy who even now with 34 is giving you 22 and a half points per game decent rebound and and giving you over 41% from three again probably at worst the second seed in the Eastern Conference so he Contender but he’s doing it at 34 and I think Paul George wants to stay la like J made the part last week where it was cl door want to go the new Arena loing but CLA Thompson and Paul George aren’t coming from us we know this yeah from their agents and saying oh he could go to Orlando Max here obious again we’re not playing Paul Georg and Ma contract at 38 years old I I I wouldn’t disagree with you on any point on either of those two players Mikey another interesting one um I don’t know quite where he fits in the team but let’s talk about it Brandon grou what your gos yeah I’m not sure about the fit um I like Brandon Ingram my my biggest concern with probably all three of these players that we talked about um obviously Paul George and Klay Thompson are a little bit on the oldest well a lot older but it’s the durability with all three of these players and Brandon Ingram yeah is it just feels like he’s always injured um last season was the first season he’s been relatively first and and they missed him at keep points didn’t they um I mean if you look back over the last few years he played 64 games this year 45 the year before that 55 61 so so he’s never really played more than 60 62 games in a season um and for a guy who’s 26 I mean he might be a nine-time Allstar and he might he might put the stats up there for you and he he’s obviously an offensive weapon um he’s going to be a threat from three he’s going to take I think with Brandon Ingram I think Brandon Ingram and Paul George I think what it does it probably makes France the third option and me and Gary had this conversation I think you guys have as well I think in an ideal scenario I think for the magic to be a contender in the East France then becomes maybe third the the third option offensively um Brandon Ingram is capable of taking off the offensive low you can take a little bit off of France France can then be a bit more of a maybe a spot up shooter um you’re not asking him to do as much offensively and I think that would help his game um and obviously it would take a massive burden off of Paulo because it’s not I mean we saw it against the Cavaliers didn’t we that they were interested in defending one player and it’s Paulo they were France France made them pay on a couple of games I think it was game four wasn’t it that France was big for for us um but I think that was something the Cavaliers were happy to live with because France has proven this season he’s not being as consistent as maybe we’d like him to be um you guys discussed that last week but um I think Brandon ing would be a nice player to add but the the injuries really worry me for a 26 year old um personally if you had to ask me out of the three of them who would I rather sign it would be Paul George I I think he’s the player that’s probably capable of giving you the most and I think he fits the best out of all three of them um but again the age is the concern isn’t it what do you think Paul yeah well before I give any thought I just want to ask you about one more player iy um who I thought was an interesting addition to the list as a free agent uh two times Champion now and still in the competition davus cwell Pope what’s your thoughts mate on his potential fit to the team well I said it earlier didn’t like as it stands these we’re talking about players who are going to be available Cas kcp could be one of those players that suddenly no nobody’s really thought about being available and then if if the Nuggets decide to De or he decides to decline his player option and Denver aren’t going to pay him then he suddenly becomes a really nice option um I don’t know how old kcp is I think he’s 30 31 without even looking I’m say now hold on but anyway regardless of that I think for a shortterm move yeah 31 guess wasn’t it um I think for a shortterm move maybe for for two for two or three years I’m not that clever def the of all NBA players my it is is just it’s just all the the the hours of us spending watching all these players over the years it’s all it is um yeah I I think kcp would be a really nice addition I think he would come at a price that probably would be attractive to us I think and I know we’ll probably going to talk about Malik monk in a minute but I think him and Malik monk financially would be really nice fits for us and I think kcp is obviously capable of being a starter but I think he’s also player you could bring in off bench as well and you obviously got that veteran leadership he’s he’s won two titles with that horrible that that team that won’t be mentioned in Los Angeles OB yeah exactly he’s got two rings but one of them doesn’t exist one fasting ring that’s the fair I I think he fits perfectly think look he’s a 40% three-point shooter with a lot with with good volume really good Defender um and I think in terms of maybe his tenacious side I think he fits play Imagine playing next to kcp and Jaylen SS I mean it’s been hard enough for teams this year as it is but I think he would be a really nice addition for me definitely yeah and that’s the reason I am said I want to say about another play first because of what we’ve talked about outside of Simons and I’m not sure that the magic would like Anthony Simon’s defensive abilities which makes me that’s the only that’s the only thing that makes me wonder if we would ever go for him your chips in if you go for S that’s the is yeah but I really like the option of kcp really do we need to push our chips in that’s the question no we because there’s there’s but I think as long as we’re aggressive enough we’re obviously we have to be an attractive destination I mean there’s enough options there if we get there first then we could upgrade roster without really giving up anything I think it’s the important thing yeah so G I’m going ask you a question now Mike just mentioned one of the guys there’s two guys want speak to you about both all three agents what on Malik monk what’s your thoughts and who at is the one of you particularly like to see as a make a run out I L to is a no-brainer of one of them um but I start with the other one and but he he had a decent H season finishing in Philadelphia he’s 31 he’s very good command quite the salar probably going to be his last big pay date um 12 points a game 39% from three last season decent he’s a sharp shooter he can get get it then he he went off in one of the sixes games I can’t remember which one it was was a game six perhaps I think he might have been um so proven player but does he F the time life is he with command to much of the salary whereas you know Malik M and he’s a different player and I think somebody asked coach MOS about Mar mod before we played Sacramento this year and I don’t know if you’ve seen a clip but he was big massive grin on MOS his face like ches attacks he was always lik to try to hi s you know I mean he was like like you just asked a question about the GU want you know I mean and so yeah just backr on him was you know you given us all 26 years old stand stand dur the season 35% career from downtown but last season 15 points game off the bench on I say yeah yeah um and then you be the r the six man had he not been for injury I think you would have been in that conversation six month of the year this m of the year but obviously you know having the c space and would be attractive um destination for them to consider and one we definitely should try to uh explore Sly um I think it’d be a decent addition to this team um I did have one more player call that wasn’t on yeah go for it I’ll throw him in there it would require train I’ve said about in this Lots but he’s 27 year old sharp shoots at his Worst season in the league he shot 39% from down out he is about 43% I think he was 44 last year he’s had few little injuries luk Canard yeah so he but he was so close to being on the list yeah he was so close to being on the list he’s so one year last in Memphis so it might not be something for this summer some just throw out this something on a trade Deadlight I’m P year and think right time to move him on 14 million he’s making next year he’ll be 27 28 probably um by the time the trade Des comes along so we’ve seen Canard go on it s we how many times oh yeah you know for Detroit for Memphis um as timee and he’s certainly some someone I’d like to have on the roster for beas so might not be something for this summer but tree dead loan perhaps but he was so close to being on that list he was one of those names I sort of looked down thought I to put him in but I went I went with I’ll tell you who I went with this I want to ask Gary about this trade that the reason went for he didn’t come in was because I saw this trade as I was doing research for for this suggestion I saw and I’m coming to you Gary simply because it involves one of our favorite players so the trade suggestion is Cole Anthony and the 2025 second round pick to go to Golden State for Moses Moody and Trace Jackson Davis so how would you feel about that as an interesting move really um because I think we give the best care in the trade for starters um but I I’ll flip it back cuz I think there’s an alternate trade in a kind of Segways into the next section where you’re talking about SE I could see a world where the magic go for n [Music] Clon I can see that happening I lean towards flax them because of his age and because of his blocken whereas valus is that to the center fills the PIN for really on for his room protection if that happens then Wendell becomes kind of expendable in that sense if you increase your 3.2 at the same time who does very much the same in terms of Threes as Mo Moody with Cory kisas and if you were looking for a trade if you look at what the Wizards lack the Wizards are got badly send there so they need a five and it works trade-wise where you would get Wendell going for tyus Jones and Cory kisso so well wor Kord could still be traded I believe tyus Jones could be as well but neither of those are free agents from what I’ve seen and when they think show was the three agent I had him down as wasn’t but was my stuff out of date but three agent be look see where throw the free agent but something along those Lin mes really I quite like the IDE I just don’t think he’s to himself enough to give up what call potentially brings called and me go like that’s that I I thought Trace Jackson had a trace Jackson Davis had a decent rookie season he looked quite a reasonable player I wasn’t I I I I kind of looked at this one the reason I put it in was I thought Moses Moody was actually the guy I thought we might take eight um in that in that original in the 2021 draft uh I know he actually went a lot lower um but was kind of projected to be further up the draft and I think he he he just doesn’t get the opportunities behind the veteran play of Golden State uh in Moses Moodie particular there um 36% from three uh and last season he was scoring 8.1 points per game I think he’s got more in him than that personally I thought he was interesting but is he’s good enough like is it peski or something who plays Southern the one look um yeah the broccoli guy he he got into the lineup yeah so I think that’s a fair point I think that’s fa point I just I think if you look at it we we spoke about where CO’s issue was and it’s the same thing withs basically where there there injuries just one’s physical and one’s mental um but if you get Cole Anthony prior to where these issues off the court were being talked about Cole was in the Sixth Man of the Year conversation so why would I give up call Anthony for Moses Moody who couldn’t crack the worriors rotation and for a rookie who where is he going to get Clint in oron that’s right that’s you know like I just I look the condition I had was about John’s being a you know like coming into the end of his qura obviously that’s not correct but it would be something along those lines where I just saw he it’s I see it as low risk moves for the magic like just we’re not going to give up a lot so again would Jones be a massive salary probably not would it take a lot to get Cory kissper probably not consider where they extend him and I think all Washington’s in a PR rather blown it up probably and listening anything so I think K could be had relatively cheaply and then I think the other thing that’s out there is that we’re not discussing is the role of where jet Howard and Anthony black fit into this any negotiation the magic start with any of these players are we’ve got the these two guys are ready to contribute next season cuz we are not going to go into a meeting and say we are desperate tonight that’s what well was getting at in his presser he’s going to play a to hand P to hand he’s not sacrificing the future he’s not giving out a ridiculous deal it’ll either be something big for two years if we P one of the the names or it’ll be something where we do L risk guys like it’s there ch um last team r with J the is KAG in is a the guy going to draft get into nothing if he wanted to stick of in the G league and see what he does I me there you mentioned it I’ve not I’ve gone nowhere near the draft uh I think that’s a conversation for another time but there’s option there there’s options there to fill some of the needs that we have we’re not talking about today one of the needs I still feel like we need one of the needs I feel like we need is is whoever weike I know I just I’m tired and I’m Rusty so go with that um but I think whoever we I think whoever really add I think the other thing we want think of is the age and the experience of the players are bringing in I think somebody like Moses Moody yes he’s playing with STA and clay and he’s been playing in a few pressure situations with the Warriors but he’s not he’s not a really important player for them he’s a role player he might only be 21 but to me if you’re adding a 21y old you may as well bring somebody in through the draft like iear I don’t actually think it’s it’s it’s it’s a great trade I thought interesting think I don’t think Moses Moody moves the needle whether you include or not it just doesn’t move the needle enough for me that’s exactly it for me mate I think we could all agree that I think Malik monk in terms of this position is probably top of the list in terms of he’s a free agent I think he’s getable I think there’s going to be interest there from us um I just think if you add somebody up Paul George I don’t think it’s going to happen I don’t think we’re going to make that big of a swing I don’t think we need to if I’m honest if if you factor in we’re all expecting Paulo to take a big jump next season again like years two to three players make a big big jump in the summer he’s got all Su of the work on his game he’s not going away to the Olympics with Team USA at the moment um so you expect Paulo to take jump Fran he can’t be as inefficient as he was this year like he is not the worst shooting shooter in the league at all we’ve seen what he can do so to me we’re just tweaking the roster to make the offense side of the ball more efficient um and I think Malik monk adds that perfectly whether he comes off the bench or he you can start him in games as well um I I for me I think him or kcp if he does become an option of the best two yeah I think that’s fair I trade I’d prefer Trace jackon Davis so was mity he you mention it I thought he had a great season you know he take five rebounds L had minut it and he came in I did a job for Golden State when Draymond Green was uh suspended so uh yeah m i i I would agree with you his his production for the team were every each time I I I saw Golden State not very I didn’t see them that often but each time I saw him um he looked a really good player looked a really good player didn’t look out place in the league at all no he didn’t I think is his dad one of the Davis boys D Davis or Antonio Davis I’m not mistaken I don’t know I I don’t know yeah I think he on left so yeah okay now final section and uh Gary you’ve already alluded to a couple of names on this list about the possibility of if the magic wanted to make a change at the center we all know when they’ll have a season that was a bit of a step back in fairness he was hampered by injury um it was a major factor at at times in someing consistency and certainly there was more than one occasion where he was really having to play catch-ups try and get himself back to a match Fitness and sharpness uh in part we certainly treated to what he’s capable of um but if we chose to seek a new starting option at the center I don’t see it I I’ll be I will say before we go any further I don’t see us putting heavy cash investment into the position but let’s sort about one or two of the options Gary you’ve already mentioned mck Claxton um and I’ll come to you first Mikey somebody that I know you wanted us to assum when he was available previously uh free agent this summer from new currently playing in New York hartstein say no I don’t think he is I don’t know why he wouldn’t go back to New York that’s that’s the pl in symbol I think he would be I’m a big Wendell guy but I think if Haren Stein was available for the magic to go and get I think you go and get him um I think Wendell is a solid Defender he’s a good rebounder and he obviously sets GRE really well but that’s also things that har and Stein does really well um but he’s a really good passer of the ball I think offensively forget the 33% from three-point range for for Haron St you don’t I not I don’t I don’t really want the center taking huge volumes of three so I think if he can keep teams honest hartenstein can obviously help keep teams they’re going to worry about him shooting the odd threes here and there but I I think I think in terms of his passing his screen setting I think Paulo and Fran I mean we see how well France plays off of Wendel we’ve seen that for the last couple of years and I think hartenstein especially being German as well they’re going to have that connection there’s going to already be a bit comaraderie as well um yeah and he’s a good offensive rebounder something that we like to do get on the glass on both ends um but I just don’t think he’s getable I really don’t I don’t I don’t see why he would leave that would be a situation that he’s in no if New York if New York don’t make the Conference Finals or they hadn’t got through the first round I think he could look at it and go well maybe that situation is not as good as I thought it is but I think the Knicks can build on what they’ve already done this season again so for me it’s it’s unfinished business if he leaves um so to me I I don’t think he’s getable but yeah I’d love hardenstein if he was available for sure can I me the point onstein so the right friend the show last year did draft the mock draft and in it he traded the Magic’s 30th to get hardenstein and people just blasting around the room he saw it he he could seen what hardenstein was all about and um he’s G right so uh all done fa and um yeah I agree with what you just said maie um you know he’s very very capable player hard nosed uh you get his nose into places and um he’s been a real Warrior at this playoff for next and we game’ be fantastic but might be of our PR things now yeah I just don’t see a heavy cash investment in that position so Gary you’ve already spoke about Nick Clon and so I just want to hear G sace on on that guy pre agent yeah so why didn’t have to come to the brook and Bo he on the in in the utun well Nick cl’s playing his last game in Brooklyn um they seem to think he isn’t worth all of that um you know his numbers are pretty decent he’s solid when we’ve seen him play yeah screens rebounds well block shots um his three for shooting is a little bit suspect uh I think there been serious you know he’s been fou lady Games Etc um so it’s one of those he would be good but how much money do throw at him and how much is this going to impede future black ability you know we’ve got out of the cap hell when we had is Bondo and ser B and you know when we extended Timothy moscov umman and Hamin have done you know the super job in managing the finances um and I know Mighty ja next week uh to be very on it when it comes to uh the finances so look forward next week’s podcast so uh make sure you don’t miss that one um so if the price was right absolutely why not but then you still when the contract go he’s you know come out and said you like Orlando you know in B there so you have you know do you throw that much money in when you’ve already not three centers potentially or you get rid go who’s you know on a very very cheap deal so it’s about maraging ladies yeah um this what I’m GNA ask you about Gary I put in before the um the lottery was drawn and I think it it’s it becomes a point at this point but trying to trade for TR capella I just I don’t see us giving up massive amounts in a trade pull like CL again yeah he’s a double double guy but then when Del kind of is anyway just I think like out of the out of the big so available for me the one who intrigues me is valent Tunas y just because veteran and he’s got that absolute like size and we saw the the values of screens when we brought Wendell back into the uh indland team against Cleveland and we saw what why we need a screen set there particularly for Le po so it’s he would be interested for us if we fulfilled the three po shoot misses veteran the man fills the paint physical field goal percentage you know like you can put it in there he’s going to get your points on the inside post up games there Etc he does fill a lot of boxes and you probably get him for a couple of years because he’s not a huge n so he fits a lot but it only works if we can do something with the three points issue because if not we’re going to just end up being in a similar position to um New Orleans yeah wa the B junus was the name that we were talking about last offseason as well um of those four names he’d be my choice without a doubt yeah yeah uh being a free agent particular because I think heart and S is not going to be available but uh yeah but the I suppose the question the final question on that on that subject is do you three guys or any does anybody feel we actually need to upgrade the startup Center Gary I’ve got an issue my issue is this and I said it earli post this season I have an issue with us having the amount of injury Pro players on our boots that we do have and as it stands we’ve got Jonathan ISAC who misses a lot of games Gary Harrison misses a lot of games Mark El Filson this is a lot of games games when El cardo miss a lot of games so we have when we hit that bad Run part of it was because a lot of the injured guys that were usually injured were injured again so I think for me I said last week I think Gary Harris has played his last game for the magic I think you’ll probably end up back in Denver or another contending team as a guy off the bench um kind of saying okay Jan Isaac isn’t going to get moved sorry G but I think there’s there is a situation where I think Markel isn’t here and I think he’s even acknowledge that himself and then I think it makes Wendell going to make a trade the salary guy who would be used but we cannot afford to have the we can’t have four constantly injured players on the books it’s got to go down the two at most it’s impossible when El’s contct to exception yeah g do you feel we need to upgrade the center looking at these numbers and the players available if you got on this CL I know you guys said looking at the numbers is to you know you’re looking at potentially you starting Sensi the next long ter you know if you brought him in even if he you know and he plays a and fr and it’s another building block that you got there in place locked in then the other guys you talking about before you know all georgees they’re you know twoe things at Max so just talking about all the freat we’ve been discussing today I mean Malik man if you came away from three see with Nick Clon and Malik man I think’ be a fantastic pop SE you’d have got big building block at Cent with W out to master bench you got a scoring d uh the light H up and then you can just go and throw some many of some three point shooters to come off the bench you know and then there’s a few of them about you know not about you can get them for cheap on middle level exceptions and whatnot L can fre trade that my next sh so having gone through every the now n is ling a lot he good it’s just it’s just what he I I’ve liked him for a lot of Seasons I mean we had um we’ve had this discussion with you you mentioned it some of the Brooklyn Community we had them on the poll um and they’re genuinely not fans of P Tron every time I’ve watched him he seems to have a solid game I’ve not seen him have a p Force but again I don’t watch him that often no I understand he can be bullied at times 12 and 10 63% from the field he’s inning around the rim he’s protecting he’s you know he’s not than I but you know you have two decent Defenders down in the blast you know so add toate defense if you had Nick plon instead of when last season a def say even better so Mikey you’re you’re the W now guy do we need to upgrade Center no I don’t think you need to upgrade I think if the if there is an obvious out upgrade there I think you’ve definitely got to look at it my question is in terms of fit does Nick Claxton anchor the defense like Wendell does I I don’t think it’s quite as simple as how many rebounds he gets and how many block shots because we we’ve seen shot blockers in the league who who still look at mo bber mo bber is a shot blocker but he can’t defend the rim but teams were never scared to go at him I’m not saying Nick Claxton as moopa don’t get me wrong but in but is is is he switchable like we’ve seen games this year when Wendell’s healthy switching out onto onto wings and and guards when it on occasions where the defense is scrambling is Nick Claxton capable defending every position like Wendell this this I’m not being biased because I’m a Wendell guy at all I’m just being I’m just trying to think of the big picture like yeah is Nick Claxton a better fit is he is he that much of an upgrade over Wendell personally I think if if Nick Claxton and just then you’re then looking at the pecking order for me Wendell’s proven he can anchor a top five defense in the league like that’s that’s that’s not a tall order but that’s the standard now that whoever you bring in has got to be able to maintain that for me I think if you sign Nick Clon I bring him off the bench it obviously depends on how much money you’re thinking of of paying him as well but um I I don’t think Center is our biggest need and that’s why I think I think the point guard I think I’m I’m going to differ from G I think if we walk away with tyus Jones and Milik K monk I think for me that’s a great offseason and I think if whether we use our draft pick and we’ll get into that another day but I think Gary Harris is probably gone so if you’re replacing Gary Harris or Malik Monk and let’s say I know Markel fols comes off the bench and tus Jones is your starter I think next season with the with the improvements of everybody else I think there’s not too much tinkering there where you’ve upset the apple cart I think that we there’s got to be that balance of you don’t want wholesale changes and then you suddenly bring in four or five players or you make a big trade for somebody and half the roster changes I think got to be careful keeping that balance and that chemistry right as well um yeah the the front officer got a real tough decision to make this off season is before before we finish is there any player who’s not really talked about at the moment who you think might become available in the summer who you would go yeah i’ make that deal like if Donovan Mitchell turned around and said I do you there’s still things that there’s still things with Donovan Mitchell um was it posted something in the social media this week and it just I doesn’t sound right does yeah didn’t it wasn’t a good fit um I think he’s he’s an excellent player but yeah I look if one name then but not been mentioned Bridges what you G the cdges where’s a possibility of becoming available that’s not necessarily being talked about a massive amount he not in a winning situation and are they are they are they wanting to move in a different way I think he’s I think he’s a third option I think a player who might come available but I don’t see us doing it because I think it’s far too expensive for what it would cost I think D Booker could become available when complete then what do you want to get up for Deon Booker cuz his stocks Fallen with the Suns and there’s a lot there players will be available that’s two of them who’s just being named now but it’s what team AR just going to give them two she got to think well okay if we want one of those guys you’re probably looking at going out the other way Sean s Jedd SS Jonathan Isaac all those names are going to be on the table as part of the deal probably alongside when was a salary T yeah the other thing you consider as well is so we’ve talked about Brandon Ingram Paul’s just mentioned K Bridges if you bring in a player like that I think suddenly there’s a lot of pressure on jayen Zs to be the point guard yeah a lot of the guys I’m talking about are not feeling the bo God R yeah I know in that Kyle kma watch the blown it up why not yeah I know we’re not the biggest fan of his but he’s capable up numbers it EAS enough say mold as is scoring Wings is what we’ve got but we’re loading up there scoring W Wings thatly yeah okay boys I think that’s going to do it for this week I’ve enjoyed that it’s been a good interesting conversation um I think what comes out of me is there’s so many options uh there’s no hard and fast answer that we there’s plenty of plenty of fit but are they all the does that fit necessarily give us an answer and does it overcommit what we have for the future um or we put it all in for the future we don’t want to be in a situation that we saw Brooklyn in for a few years back where they’ve put everything into getting one player two players during that offseason um we don’t want that we equally don’t want to be in that position we’ve we’ve just seen with s where they did nothing last summer and hoped to make a progression and haven’t so it’s interesting summer just before we finish there was two two other names I saw before we jumped on as well and Brian wior brought this up apparently clutch Sports I forgot to say this earlier during the point guard bit that uh apparently they’re going to meet the Cavs this offseason to facilitate a Theus Garland trade and so that was from Brian windhorse and the other one was I think it was Shams they were saying apparently there’s some members of the cabs who were frustrated with Jarrett Allen and whether there’s a few Rumblings of him being a bit upset there now to me that’s two clear upgrades if you can get one of them I would agree Dar darus Garland or or Jarett Allen Jarrett Allen is a better option to me take hardenstein off the list I think he’d be a better option than the rest of those free agents and a I think cl’s going be better than Allan experience opined yeah I know good it’s good we’ have no talk about if it was such a hard and fast clear yeah rule that’s what I love about this is so we there’s so many different opinions about what would work maybe we could put a poll up to see yeah what what people yeah I think it’d be interesting we put some of these names up as to if we could get one to fill this need which would you go for I think it be interesting to see interesting to see so yeah excellent so yeah that’s one up for this week um before we do go going to just mention quickly our our
