Orlando Magic are betting favorite to trade for Brandon Ingram from New Orleans Pelicans
the Orlando Magic we’ve talked about numerous Brandon Ingram trade locations but somehow Orlando are the Bing favorite is that a surprise I’ll tell you why that is and what the pals could get in return in today’s episode of Locked on Pelicans let’s go you are locked on Pelicans your daily New Orleans Pelicans podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day welcome to another at more Brandon Ingram trade rumors here because the Orlando Magic per FanDuel are the betting favorite to land Brandon Ingram seems a little strange right that’s a bit of a surprise and I’ll explain why Orlando is maybe the betting favorite for it what the PS could get in return and if this is realistic plus CJ McCullum is an award winner so that’s coming up here in today’s episode of Locked on Pelicans today’s episode of Locked on Pelicans is brought to you by FanDuel make every moment more right now new customers get $150 in bonus Bets with any winning $5 bet it’s 150 bucks with any Pelicans podcast covering everything you want to know about this Pelicans team so please subscribe wherever you get your podcast join over 10,000 Pelicans fans on YouTube as well so let’s get into this trade around the Orlando Magic because as the betting odds have come out for br and Ingram this is a team that genuinely surprised me a little a little bit to see in the running for them they were a good team this past year and the Orlando Magic finished fifth in the Eastern Conference they lost in seven games to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a young team that hadn’t made the playoffs really in a minute or had much success that’s a really successful season there’s a lot of young guys on this roster so why are you looking to change that right if you look at the guys who played the most games for them poo banero is 21 jayen sugs is 22 Vagner is 22 Wendell Carter Jr more on him in a moment is 24 Anthony black was just drafted he’s 20 right there’re a they’re a young team there’s just they’re a young team it’s really kind of as simple as that when you look at all of these guys and what they were doing why do they need to make a change unless they’re just kind of trying to really jump start contention a little bit more and then maybe it is Brandon Ingram on their radar but I think the real reason you’re seeing the Orlando Magic in this one is they’re young there’s tradable guys there you know they’re not going to be able to keep everyone pay everybody right it’s always kind of the issue here so maybe you move two of them for one guy that’s better than some of the players that they have now and more on what that trade will look like in a moment here but I think one of the main reasons why you’re seeing them and you will see them linked to other big names is they have cap space there are very few teams in the NBA that actually have cap space to spend and given it’s a lackluster free agent Market maybe they just want to go bigname shopping through a trade this giv them flexibility in taking more money back than they send out that’s not always what you see in the NBA world when you’re looking at trades and we say the salaries need to match and things like that well if one team is Camp space they can take more money back than they send out that makes just gives you greater flexibility in terms of making a trade and trying to figure out the logistics of a deal and I think that’s why the Orlando Magic are on there because honestly I I don’t quite see a ton of the fit around Brandon Ingram fron Vagner plays the three for them and he is very good you know this is someone that they kind of have figure as like one of their prized young guys here after three seasons in the NBA playing 231 games someone with a career average of almost 18 points per game 3.4 assists 4.6 rebounds he takes threes shoot you know things like that he a good rebounder for his size and kind of his position just a useful player you know B Caro is their main guy do they want you know someone to take shots away from them things like that and I’m not entirely sure that that’s what they want to do you know Jaylen Suggs is in there too he’s young we’ll talk about him in a trade and everything in a second here so I I really don’t see it unless you’re going to move fron Vagner or brain inam to being a two and they both can probably play that I struggle to see the fit here a little bit but one of the things when you look at a trade here is you can probably get a deal done without first round picks being involved and maybe that means the Pelicans want to make a deal like this to use the first picks they have to Target other areas and what areas should they be targeting we’ll talk about in the next segment so you look at this and it at first it doesn’t make a ton of sense and then you’re like you know what like maybe maybe it does and we can kind of get behind some of this and I think that goes a long way towards trying to figure out a deal that makes sense so what what’s the trade here and then you look at their roster and you go oh there are pieces that New Orleans would probably like let’s start with Wendell Carter J this is a center who has switch ability years left on his deal and makes sense because the Pelicans were linked to him at the NBA’s trade deadline as they look to upgrade from Jonas valunas and looking back on it New Orleans not making a move there is probably the worst thing they could have done and I was very wrong about that at the time so Wendel Carter Jr comes to New Orleans there’s your new starting center after that it gets a little bit tough I would have them throw someone in like Jonathan Isaac who just had his most healthy year in a while and while not an elite player maybe a useful role player off of the bench just for his defense he’s not a good shooter there’s no offense there but just for some defense that’s not too bad he also makes $17.4 million next season that salary that could be packaged at the trade deadline along with picks or something else to go get you another useful rotation player for you and the Pelicans are lacking some of that mid-range salary that they really are going to try and need so Jonathan Isaac being a guy that you would get now but flip later makes some sense and then it comes down to what’s the final piece of this you know the Pelicans I think would be asking for jayen Suggs I don’t think they would get jayen Suggs here from the Orlando Magic his defense he’s one of the better defensive guards in the league but he doesn’t necessarily fit what this team totally needs I mean he’s young enough he shoots threes well too but he’s not like a true point guard or anything like that 12.6 points per game 2.7 assists three rebounds he shot almost 40% from three on five attempts but that was a significant increase from his previous shooting years where even when you include that season he’s still a 33% shooter from Deep you’d still try and get him but I think he’s so young and there’s so much talent there that Orlando wouldn’t try and get rid of a guy that is a significant player for them that started 75 games for him this season so you take him out and maybe include a guy like Cole Anthony so your trade in this works would be something like brandan Ingram going to the Orlando Magic Jonathan Isaac Cole Anthony and wend Carter junor coming back what do you think about that deal let’s talk about it a little bit more going into the next segment here and then we’ll talk about how you kind of need to look at the positions that you’re targeting and how that’s going to impact a Brin and Ingram trade that’s coming up here next in today’s episode of Locked on Pelicans right now though I’m excited to tell you about FanDuel because it’s winner take all time in the NBA and and NHL and FanDuel is giving you a shot to bring home a big win of your own right now new customers get $150 in bonus Bets with any winning $5 bet that’s 150 bucks to bet on spreads money lines player props and more so visit fanduel.com locked on to make every playoff shot count look I’m not a fan of any of the teams left really but I like watching playoff basketball and I like to make it more interesting to give myself a rooting interest getting on FanDuel picking the player props the spreads whatever it might be that’s going to make the game more more interesting so again you get $150 in bonus bets to bet on spreads money lines and everything so FanDuel America’s number one Sportsbook and you can also get in on the player Futures things like that FanDuel America’s number one Sportsbook and the official sports book of locked on and thank you for making locked on Pelicans your first listen today and every day we are here Monday through Friday the number one Pelicans podcast covering everything that you want to know about about this team including making sense of a lot of the trade rumors around particularly Brandon Ingram right now and now for your second listen don’t be watching ESPN Fox Sports any place where they’re just not talking sports or anything like that if you have to turn down the volume with all the yelling or they’re just not getting to the topics that you want to hear make the switch to lock on sports today a free 24/7 Sports streaming Channel programmed for you every day to bring you the biggest stories without all that yelling lockon sports today brings you the can’t miss analysis opinions and news streaming 24/7 on YouTube or the free Amazon Fire TV channels app part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day so let’s let’s go back to the trade that I had just said in this here bran Ingram in an exchange the pelons get Jonathan Isaac Cole Anthony Wendler Carter Jr if you propose that to Orlando Magic fans they are going to revolt and say absolutely not but I think this is the most realistic deal that I can really see coming you’re not going to get Jaylen Suggs not unless you include a bunch of first round picks and I don’t think Orlando’s really interested in first round picks Jonathan Isaac gives you some salary that you can repackage later and also a useful role player Off the Bench Cole Anthony you can maybe plug in as a starter or have him be your kind of guy off the bench that’s a score Cole Anthony it’s worth pointing out though isn’t a true point guard this is a guy who last year off the bench in 81 games right 11.6 points per game three assists four rebounds and shot 34% from three he’s not a particularly good or Elite three-point SHO shooter and doesn’t do it on volume is there some microwave scoring in him where you put him in the game and he can go and take over particularly against New Orleans as he always does yes but I wouldn’t say that this is the true point guard that the team is looking for he’s more of a combo guard than anything else and more of a Score first gu coming off the bench that can be useful I think but for someone who played significant minutes on this Orlando Magic team that was good by the way which is worth pointing out here he he was like fourth in minutes for that team this didn’t get really any voting or any interest in six Man of the Year Jose Alvarado got more votes for six man of the year than than um Cole Anthony did now he’s young he’s young he’s 24 you know not amazing size at 62 taller than Jose Alvarado though and has a lot of potential but it’s worth keeping in mind that I don’t think he’s an elite player and just because he lights up New Orleans that’s not necessarily a reason to go and try and get a guy like that you know I think if you’re doing this trend you get one for sure starter and Wendell Carter Jr and two you know one guy that could be a starter maybe Cole Anthony or at least be a prominent role player for you off the bench and then a guy like Jonathan Isaac who okay whatever and I think he would get moved later that’s kind of trading Brandon Ingram it feels like for depth not for the Difference Maker I don’t think any of those guys on this team is a Difference Maker I think Wendell Carter Jr is your next starting center is useful but I don’t see him as like the guy that like unlocks everything for this team you know he shoots threes you know last season he took 3.13 Point attempts per game 37.4% but I feel like you can do better than that he’s not an elite rebounder he’s not an elite scorer he’s not like an above the Above the Rim like dunk threat lob threat anything like that you know it feels like if you’re trading Brandon Ingram and that’s kind of gets to what I want to talk about in this segment you you got to do it for something Elite right Trey young to Jon Murray I think fit that bill if you get another Center in there it’s kind of like not the main piece for it or you trade him and we’ll we’ll talk about them on trade Target Thursday the Cleveland Cavaliers and do a whole show about that because you can come up with a million trades with the Cleveland Cavaliers you know for Jared Allen or Darius Garland or maybe both that kind of fixes I think what the Pelicans are looking for when it comes to some of this and so while I like the idea of Wendell Carter Jr here I don’t think that’s like as Elite of a move as you want to make and this is just kind of trading for depth that’s not necessarily what this team needs you need them to take a step forward if Wendell Carter Jr somehow unlocks that yeah maybe and I think a lot of y’all will point to PJ Washington and what he’s done for the Dallas Mavericks and that’s true to an extent but in that closeout game seven win it was Derek Lively the second the guy they drafted to that made a difference in PJ Washington was flat out bad is there may maybe a guy in the draft a center and we’ve looked at some of these names Kyle Kyle filipowski right Kell wear is another option EES Missy I think could be an option too and there’s one or two others as well in there right those are the type of guys that I may be looking for to make a bigger impact having them and Wendel Carter Jr isn’t bad but this just doesn’t feel like the most exciting trade for me maybe just because I’m not super insanely high on Cole Anthony given how his whole season went so that’s the way I kind of look at it with this you know I would Target specifically one of those positions right point guard or guard or creation I don’t like using pure point or point guard it can be a two guard it could be it could be a three I don’t care someone who just has creation right and that’s not Brandon Ingram’s thing other than creating mid-range for himself creation whatever that looks like whether it’s a point guard or another position Target that and go aggressively after it right Trey young is a guy that will create even Murray will create or at least fit in better right or really go and upgrade that Center Spot Jared Allen Miles Turner and I that’s probably out now right given how well the Indiana Pacers have done go after that type of guy that really elevates you that would be significantly better than a Wendell Carter Jr is that’s the direction I think I’d like to see them go and then you can figure out everything else whether it’s in free agency they’re going to have and we’ll do a show on this you know about 12 million to spend in free agency with the with the their their mid-level exception one of the three they have one of them available that’s probably what they’re going to go with right to kind of fill a hole in free agency because that’s where they can do something you know you also have potentially two draft picks here so if they as you’re building out your big boards and doing your scouting and there’s a consensus on the players kind of coming to fruition here you can kind of see who you’ll be able to get and if you think there’s an answer there cool you can go and fill that hole or does One impact the other right if you build out your big board and I think there’s going to be a bunch of big men available in that right spot for the Pelicans at 21 that I think could have a kind of Derek Lively II impact maybe not be as good as him but have the impact that he kind of had for this team I think if you draft that you don’t need to go get a Jared Allen kind of guy you can focus your efforts on Trey young and whatever it might be and I think that’s maybe the direction New Orleans should go with or is they’re building up their big board and they’re like don’t like any of the big men but oh there’s a guard Prospect or two in there and there is right there’s one or two guys that Mak sense for the Pelicans in that range and I think that’s the type of thing that maybe that’s going to influence what you are doing when it comes to the trade market with uh with Brandon Ingram right if like Isaiah Collier Falls to 17 like is that the type of guy you want to then try and draft right and I think that’s what you could kind of look at Devin Carter had a very good combine he’s out of Providence could he be that kind of point guard that you need even if I think he’s not quite kind of like the passing first point guard so when you look at that maybe one influences the other and again that’s why you’re not seeing a ton of traction on brain Ingram rumors or things like that yet because there there isn’t going to be a market yet there’s teams still playing there’s some teams that need to hire head coaches this was always going to be a bit of a drawn out process and not something that was res olved right away and was probably going to get resolved closer to the draft or sometime soon after it I think and now with the draft being two days you know the first round is on one day the second round is on another day I don’t know what my hair is doing here that opens things up for a little bit more tinkering between picks between rounds and I think that’s when you’re going to see like a flirty of deals get done and I find that to be kind of interesting because that’s where we haven’t seen this before because this is the first year that they’re doing those two rounds in the draft on different days that maybe opens things up for more trades because guys you know guys front offices have time to kind of discuss reevaluate in a way that they haven’t before and we’ll see how that goes but I think that could be kind of influential on it but let me know what you think Cole Anthony Wendell Carter Jr and Jonathan Isaac for bran Ingram is is there a needle mover in there is it more H we’ll wait and see what another trade could be or even just resign brand Ingram let me know what you think in the comments Down Below on YouTube so coming up next CJ McCollum Award winner I’ll tell you what he won and why I like this I think this is a great thing for the team for CJ McCullum in particular here with what they’re trying to do in terms of building the fan base in connection with the city and also we’re about to hear some news hopefully good even if it’s just like an hourlong interactive live show that’s just like a YouTube special or something like that which is probably what we’ll end up doing if you have ideas though let me know in the the team hopefully that’s going to be soon Jackson’s talking about it over the lockon Saints podcast so let’s switch gears from the trade market because we like players on the team winning Awards and CJ McCullum is an award winner he’s already won a couple of other Awards in the NBA by the way but CJ McCullum it was announced on Monday wins the 2023 2024 J Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award so I’m going to read the press release to yall here New Orleans Pelicans guard C.J McCullum has been named the winner of the 20232 24 Jay Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award as administered and selected by the professional basketball uh writers association PBW named after the NBA’s second commissioner the honor is presented annually by the pbwa to a player coach or athletic trainer who shows outstanding service and dedication to their Community McCullum is being honored for his extensive Community work in and around New Orleans with a focus on education Social Justice Reform and efforts to provide Equitable resources and opportunities for youth MLL was one of five finalists for the awards what I love about this I’m not reading from the press release Here is that it encompasses not just players right but coaches you know a their they trainers just people who are involved in the community so it’s harder to win this because there’s a much larger you know body of people who could win more constituents for it he beat out people like Kuran Butler who’s a assistant coach on the Miami Heat Anthony Gil with the Wizards Kyrie Irving with the Mavericks and jiren Jackson Jr with the Memphis Grizzlies the finalists were chosen by Committee of pbwa members from nominees submitted by NBA teams the winner was determined by a vote of the entire pbwa which is composed of more than 200 writers and editors who cover the NBA regularly for newspapers magazines and online news outlets quote CJ’s passion generosity and commitment to improving the lives of uh the youth in his community is truly impressive says pbwa president Howard Beck of the ringer also friend of the show you’ve seen him on here the members of the professional Riders uh basketball writers associate ation salute him and the nominees for their inspiring work in January McCullum partnered with the nonprofit College Beyond to launch the McCullum Scholars Program and needs based scholarship program that will provide 11 New Orleans students with $100,000 each total commitment of 1.1 million to pursue 4year degrees as part of the initiative the McCullum Scholars will also be offered academic coaching Services mental Wellness Resources career preparation and internship placement the program aims to close the education literacy and racial wealth gaps through access to Quality education and create pathways to obtaining a postsecondary degree in March McCullum opened the CJ McCullum Dream Center at the West Bank Boys and Girls Club of Metro Louisiana the center which has been transformed to Dynamic Hub of innovation and inspiration is stocked with new laptops uh tablets smartboards Laser Printers a library virtual reality headsets and a podcast studio is the third Dream Center that McCullum has opened in the first in Louisiana where he’s resided since joining the Pelicans in February of 2022 he’s described the uh the centers as beacons of Hope and a safe haven where youth can learn grow and explore he’s also worked with the Louisiana Center for children’s rights and the National Basketball social justice um Coalition and so you see that he’s done a ton of work here in the community the reason I read all of that off and that was long is because you want the Pelicans to be involved in their Community right Chris Paul was Notorious not notorious that’s a probably a poor word for to use with it but did that right it made him bopt Anthony Davis a little less so even though he did things but not to the degree like this when you’re trying to kind of build lifelong fans and have the city have a strong connection to the team and the players doing really good things in the community is a really big big part of that that’s I think part of the reason why David Griffin even if it sounds a little cliche at times talks about trying to get really good humans and things like that on the team that stuff matters right you know at times you you just want good basketball players certainly and McCullum is that but you also want people that are doing work in the community and making an impact because that does create deeper ties between the community at large the city at large New Orleans and you know various surrounding areas and the team and I think that’s important for a place that you know at times and it’s not always true doesn’t have the best relationship with the team in terms of attendance things like that having them do stuff like that I think is important and I think that does go towards building lifelong fans and seeing kind of people in there and sometimes it just feels good to root for a that’s doing good in your community so a ton of credit to CJ McCullum for winning the J Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award here think this was just an awesome thing to see from him and things we like to see in the off season we’re expecting tomorrow I’m recording this on the 20th tomorrow though the 21st maybe when you’re listening to this so today tomorrow today whenever you’re listening is the announcement of the all defensive teams in the NBA and we are hoping to get good news about herb Jones and see where he will fall he is almost certainly going to make one of the teams almost certainly going to make one of the teams it should be the first team it absolutely should be the first team will that actually be the case we’ll see he he should have made this before but this year herb Jones finished fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting he was the top non Center here and you know behind Rudy gar Victor wanyama ban metab bio and Anthony Davis so the first non Center to make it finishing fifth in the voting should mean first team right that really feels like it should be first team on this on the ballad but we’ll see sometimes it just gets a little bit weird here and so let’s find out what happens we’re going to do a segment on it for sure I hope to do herb Jones Award winner I mean he’s going to be on one of the teams should be on first team it’d be a travesty if not we’ll see we’ll talk about the voting the breakdown from and kind of the respect herb Jones is getting from around the league in hopefully a very positive way that’s probably coming up in tomorrow’s episode of lock on Pelicans that’s going to do it for this episode of Locked on Pelicans thank you all so much for listening as always I’m your host Jake Madison at Nola Jake on Twitter we are part of the lockdown podcast Network your team every day subscribe wherever you get your podcast join over 10,000 Pelicans fans on YouTube and I’ll see you all tomorrow

Mr. ErryDat'rr 👈🏾 Thanks Jake. Ummmmmmm No. HORRIBLE trade!!!
Every dayer!! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🔥
Brandon Ingram
for Franz Wagner , Jonathan Issac –
CJ & Dyson for Donovan Mitchell
Two words Jake: hair spray
(Just jealous because I lost mine).
Seems Atlanta or Cleveland are teams that can fill our holes at the 5 & 1 or both.
As someone who roots for and follows both Magic and Pels,I don't think BI is a good fit for Orlando. I Would love to see a collab with you and Phillip,I am a everydayer for both of you.
Bump dat, the trades proposed here with Orlando absolutely suck
Every dayer
Paolo!
Yall do not know Brandon Ingram was the one who said he need a point guard. Why would team need a point guard if by your own logic. Zion just need shooters cause he can play guard
As you pointed out, Jake, all three of those guys are like bench. We don't need to strengthen our bench. It is already plenty strong enough.
What happened to all the tre and Murray trade talk you know neither one of them coming here you selling wood nickels jake
