The top takeaways from the Denver Nuggets’ failed title defense season?

[Music] stay on charade we’re just lying to ourselves damn it oh no it’s too good oh it’s too good what is everybody Welcome to the off seon oh I’m not going there is airn for kale hell yeah I when you can bring the air horn about I know we might have to retire for the summer um I’m actually very excited for today’s show got a chance to sleep on it I’m serious I’m excited because it’s a tone Setter for the O I think it is one of us just want to solo this show you know what if we need me to I can do it based on our conversations but I’m excited for it because what we’re going to try to do today is Define the season what happened what’s the big takeaway of the Season not of the playoffs but the season at Large we’re also going to have a little Witch Hunt The Witch Hunt man who’s the blame is there somebody to blame are there multip people blame we always love that and of course we’re going to talk about what’s the top story line now for the off season very quick little dip our toe into that before going deeper later on in the week to help me out man did we all wear black set for dline today I got brenon vote man well at least it was a really gloomy cloudy Monday I noticed that on my walk over wasn’t that gloomy it’s like a little gloomy maybe I just have Gray colored glasses on today I think we solved I think we cracked the code over here is dline co uh guys I’m ready to get into some offseason talk I’m totally ready for this this is exactly where my head space is I’ve got great perspective and I’m I’m built for this yeah um what did you just say that we are not back on Parade yeah dude uh stay on charade oh no we’re lying to ourselves I’m feeling dismayed at the moment um over there Harrison wind just let me know when I can talk Zach Ed just say the word I will never say the word man yeah don’t say the word don’t say the word we got three super chats about him last night what is the word exactly backup center that’s the two words what about Zeke though we got Zeke we got a vco yeah Zeke I think might be the word trigger the eeve talk we’re going to start though with hangover takes as we always do you get a chance to sleep on it we covered a lot of ground but I’ll be honest one thing we did not discuss in the the proper detail that I think I this first segment maybe stings a little bit it’s a little spice on the the first time but it’s smooth on the Finish okay like a Chili beer okay you ever have a chili beer yeah it leaves you with a [ __ ] heartburn ruins the rest of your day first of all that was the oldest thing you haven’t had a chili beer a chili beer that doesn’t sound good to me oh I actually like a Chili beer it like spicy beer dude who drinks spice that’s a terrible D but I got some chili beer creers in in the chat I’m sure of it um the thing we didn’t talk about yesterday enough just what a collapse the game was it really is a top story but as much cuz we contextualize it all within how the game went numers tired they were short at this they know the Wolves were able to do this or that and we almost analyzed it as game but the truth of the matter is they’re up 20 and one of the conversations I’ve seen around like Denver Sports Talk Radio today was is this the biggest collapse in Denver Sports history and my first instinct is like come on but then you go it was 20 points in the third quarter it might actually be the biggest collapse it was the biggest collapse in game seven history yeah so it’s up there it’s up there and I I really quickly just cuz I I that’s where I went with it right away and I saw that there were a lot of I think takes that are worth hearing out but I there are a lot of like consequentialist takes where once the loss was cemented you just go like okay and now I know that all of these philosophies were wrong and these were the mistakes the nuggets made right and to me it’s always going to be the biggest mistake they made this season was blowing a big lead in game seven right for all those factors they very much could still be favorites in the Western Conference Finals right now and uh those factors are relevant but the biggest thing is they blew an 18-point lead when you have flaws and you win you don’t talk about the flaws when you have flaws and you lose it’s like oh my God these is what killed you this game really was closer to a coin F the Nuggets were up 20 they collaps and those things like like yoke said afterward and I love it he’s like the team that won is the best team I don’t believe this oh man but they were the better team and they didn’t get it done I’m with joic on this when you lose it’s like something about you manifested itself in that moment that being said the margin was so tidy it was so tidy and there’s an alternate world where we’re like man this nuggets team was flawed but dang it did they have fight and get over the hump but they collapsed yeah they did I remember that um the worst part for me are we just St we just talking about the worst Parts we’re staying on charade yeah we’re staying on charade Keep It Coming uh worst part for me was that the Nuggets lost in the same way that they beat the Lakers every single game they got up early and then they tired it they got tired and they started taking horeshit 3 after horeshit 3 because they were tired this the stuff we were clowning the Lakers for the Nuggets did the exact same thing and then they just slowly fell apart and it just was a it just felt inevitable because they were so tired and I can’t believe that team our team the home team that was the worst thing you’ve ever done uh just ran out of gas in such a miserable fashion and like man I don’t know I mean I you know obviously if you’re looking to assign blame which we’ll spend a lot of offseason doing it’s our fault we did it this is a we got so excited after that Lakers series we made all sorts of shirts I said some [ __ ] I made a lot of proclamations delay on Parade delay on Parade we’re going to be back on Parade you guys we’re just delayed on Parade listen the Spurs never won two in a row the nuggets are still have Nika yic there’s a lot of reasons to be positive just not today not today today we are airing out the Grievances and we are flushing out the toxins total aing of grievances on today we’re allowed to be like really pissed and like disgusting on the show I could spit but you brought up my least favorite thing I thought we were going to save it for later that what really happened this year the fan base was too arrogant I’ve actually seen this take and I’m like it’s hilarious what the hell does a fan base have to do with a team plow a team plays this is my least favorite this is my other thing is there’s no greater collection of arrogance and miserable fan base uh the Lakers than the Lakers and the Warriors people Championship yeah the Warriors fans were so arrogant yeah they’re repeatedly rewarded for it if we show any if we’re even excited for 10 minutes it’s like you need to be more humble it’s like was even me I watch and with no judgment I watched woles fans realize that they were allowed to be confident for the first time in their life they went for blood it’s good on them you know we all did the same thing it’s my least favorite TR but just means I hate nuggets fans the people that say it and the people that say that actually hate nuggets fans like true you know oh dude I love how nuggets fans handled handled themselves this year I love it and I love how we handled ourselves time MVP we were trying to stay on Parade without derailing segment one I do just want to push back I just it felt inevitable but I just don’t think you can call an 18-point collapse in game seven inevitable 20 20 like there’s just in the third quarter in the third quarter so like I and again I don’t want to cuz I don’t think you necessarily have to choose one or the other their fatigue mattered right all the factors we’re going to talk about they’re all real some of these are necessary conversations they still could have and should have protected that lead even as tired and then I would be taking them in the Western Conference Finals I would so they could have taken the ex I just want to acknowledge before we do all the sliding take kind of margins are thin in sports and and and sometimes you’re the losers and this is where you’re at but I just want to acknowledge that they could have taken the exact same path and and been the victors this morning and to me it’s just like I know you’re tired hold that lead find a way cuz that’s what they do they find a way to win and and they didn’t last you always thought they were going to find that extra gear of course especi when they look dead tired like you thought they were going to find a little something extra and they just never did and the team that made the plays was the Timberwolves I mean the Conley three late the goar turnaround those are plays that last year Denver was making I mean the joic play as much as we know joic can make those it’s also like there was a little luck involved but it was also like yeah but he makes the big plays when they matter and in this game he didn’t and to me that’s another part of this is the Nuggets were missing a key ingredient this year that I kind of felt this why I said I wasn’t that surprised last night is cuz it didn’t feel like last year where the team nuggets felt like a team of Destiny they were so hungry and so confident so driven this year was missing a little something and it could be overstated cuz like we said they almost won anyway but there was in that third quarter something that was like you said yeah nothing’s going right for us but hold the line hold the line and there just wasn’t that yoke was missing threes and taking them Non-Stop and you’re like man this is a moment where you just need to put a stop Gap in there and Denver didn’t have it this year cuz I think they were missing something can we just say what they were missing let’s hear it were missing the fire that Bruce Brown played with last year I I agree with this I don’t think Bruce lets that happen and the biggest thing about Bruce like that’s the biggest part of Bruce they missed you know it wasn’t his points or his defense it wasling maybe some of that I think the biggest part was like just the fire and the passion and theough determination and toughness that he played with that’s what this team was lacking the most this season too and it’s the trust they had in Bruce they wouldn’t they didn’t feel confident to go to anybody so they ended up burning out their starters because they didn’t feel they meaning Michael Malone didn’t feel com comfortable going to Christian Brown pton Watson Christian’s the one guy he did go to but I know but he didn’t rely on him heavily in the way that you would like Bruce Brown was closing the finals like um so yeah it really comes down to like Bruce Brown just brought it he brought that extra little something in every playoff game and every game he played in you know he brought that extra grit and toughness and spirit and there were so many times this season you know even in that Lakers series and obviously in this series where Denver needed that and they didn’t have anybody that could give that but they also didn’t have as much of that from their starters that’s this yes and so again like aute like they’re a better team if they had Bruce Brown also could have still won this series if they’re start so Jamal muray admitted after the game that was the that was the one note I really wanted to hit in the postgame hit it’s tough for these guys cuz it just happened but I asked him like what do you think now that you’ve tried to what do you think makes repeating so hard and he said it was the motivation he said last year they had a chip on their shoulder every single night to prove everyone wrong uh that they were the hunters and not the hunted and I think Jamal Murray in particular thrives in that mental place as a competitor and he essentially admitted it it that edge was missing a bit this year and I I just thought that that was really interesting so uh By the way when I say they could have won I’m not sugarcoating anything I’m I’m just redirecting the criticism to the basketball that was played and they came up short but this is part of it and and I think it was really interesting to kind of hear jbal admit as much after the game they didn’t have the same Edge this year that’s unacceptable I agree I think that’s worthy of criticism but that that was the answer Jamal G I thought it was an honest one and and I would agree with it I mean I think there was some Aaron Gordon kcp all those guys it’s not that they weren’t driven it’s that there is an extra drive you had when you’ve never done it this is why Malone in the in media day said winning is all about talent but repeating is about character yeah and again I’m not questioning their character I’m saying when things hit the wall this season Denver seemed a little less hungry than desperate and if you ask me what the Minnesota timberwol was played like all series long all year long and especially in that third and fourth quarter they played desperate as if it would kill them not to win this title and there was lots of guys that had that desperation and look it’s hard to match that and I think the thing you need to match that to be a repeat Champion to like deal with success and to continue to win is you need personalities like a Bruce who Bruce is a guy that I imagine will talk the most [ __ ] in a game of darts you know you can play Go Fish and he’s going to be over there like trying it to win and when you have the requisite amount of guys like that that’s who you are and when you’re of that you lose it and I think again we’re not making this just down to Bruce it’s more when we start to talk about roster construction you need length we need defense you need a ball handler but you also need the spiritual piece that they were missing this year that was a [ __ ] yeah and you also lose that edge when you’re just tired of [ __ ] exactly but that’s but let’s not I think we hit the nail on the head right but then let’s and then just to frame it and put a bow on it that’s not an excuse it’s something this team didn’t have which is why they’re not one of the few teams to have gone back to back that’s like the biggest takeaway is how tired and and tiring and exhausting these runs are some teams have done it yeah some teams have pushed through and gone back to back and and the Nuggets were missing whatever that is that gets you there the last piece I have for this and people are going to hate me for saying this like I could already tell it’ll be an unpopular opinion but I but baby but I feel oh I feel it’s true this is by no means on joic he was phenomenal all series he’s always the best player the team but if you would have asked me can joic just overcome it can joic do this up 20 in the lead is slipping I would have bet my life on the answer being yes and the truth was in that third quarter I actually don’t mind him taking the threes I mind him missing them all and I do mind at a certain point it being like hey man go to the rim and do something to settle things down and again I would just have staked my entire life on the fact that yoke will come through in those moments and in this game wasn’t that he was bad but that he was wasn’t enough to make up for Denver shortcomings and I felt like the margin was wide enough in that moment that he could have done it so that’s one thing that’s just a bummer like it’s just a bummer he’s our guy I still trust him next time and all this but there was something where I was watching that game going the only thing that’s going to save us is yok’s about to have four minutes to settle everything down and to put this game away and it never came it never did and I’m with you man that was really disappointing and with how the first half went it felt like yoke was saving giving something for just a third quarter takeover me too I except for his defense was so good and it did turn out that it did turn you know in the end it did seem like he he and the Nuggets spent all that energy in the first half um but yeah we were watching the game and they took Rudy goar off the floor and it was towns and Nas Reed and we were saying take him to the rim go to the rim go inside and um it was just three after three after three and I’m I’m with you you expected more out of him in in that specific situation and even if they supposed to take the three I just like if you told me will yoke make a three with the season on the line I’d be like every time I know man he’s making at least just the right amount and he missed them all and the one that did fall was the first and then really last spark of hope I felt in that game of oh here we go but even then it felt a little late you’re like are we too late for this and we were toally totally totally man and then and that’s the thing man there there are some intangible things to a title run that I think we could now easily identify if not necessarily easily articulate having watched the Nuggets do it and then not do it and yeah when Mike connley hit the pump fake redeem for game 73 that had no business going in and then Rudy goar hits the the turnaround you just like it’s something more than luck and I’m not I’m not going to say like magic or fate or any of that it’s just the juice like the Wolves had it they they earned the right for for those shuts to go in with everything else they did in a way where you’re like you know what what is it fortune favors the Bold it’s like they had a bold second half and Fortune came their way and I always did and still do think like the Nuggets were in the Inner Circle of contention this year they just lost in game seven to in my opinion the second if not third best team in the league um they were good enough to win but I did feel like all year they didn’t quite have the juice yeah and and that did materialize it felt like maybe bone grinding against bone at times yeah um all right let’s move on we’re GNA get to the next segment which is defining the season so now we did our hangover takes I know that was a tough hang that was a rough hangover wasn’t it dine uh who’s over the just my car $200 man $200 for that first one $200 for my first car and it ran it for about one year oh not bad not that’s a great that’s how you do it baby um let’s go on now to defining the season now that it’s over early thoughts you know how it is you can’t ever really fully Define a season until you remove yourself from it a little bit so it’ll be nice to match this up maybe a month from now from how we feel about it but W I’ll let you start if you were to define the season what is like the defining takeaway man um season’s defined by what’s happening in the playoffs and what happened in the playoffs and I got to think it’s going to be defined by Jamal Murray not playing up to his standards in the playoffs agreed that’s what what the season comes down to if Jamal Murray’s better against the Timberwolves Nuggets win that series I there are a lot of reasons they lost but I think you can boil it down to that if he just is better the Nuggets win they win last night I mean he was good in the first half they probably win you know maybe game one if he was better as well that’s what it comes down to that’s what the season comes down to um and look he just wasn’t Jamal Murray the Jamal that we’ve come to know in the playoffs this time around and I think there were a lot of reasons for it the injuries were definitely one the defense he faced in round two definitely another reason for that um but all in all like I don’t think his season lived up to the potential that we thought it had and then in the playoffs he disappointed I would go further though about the playoffs it part of the story for me and the Nuggets is the team ran out of gas and one of the reasons the team ran out of gas is they had to Sprint to carry his bags you know if we look at his Seasons now as a nugget 82 games his rookie year 81 his sophomore year 75 his third year then 59 that’s not his injury Year by the way then 48 that is the injury year then misses an entire season missed 17 games last year coming back from injury somewhat understandable but still a lot missed 23 games this year somehow more than he has basically since his third season to me it’s not just again I’m not trying you could blame whoever you want for his own injuries the point of the matter is we are now five seasons in a row of him missing 17 or more games in a season five yeah and that to me is as much a part of it as him not being great in the playoffs as well I I agree and I even think it’s part of why everyone looked so stretched and tired as they got there it’s not just that for example Jaylen picket didn’t play it’s just that it’s just that the second most important player Miss as much time as he did and like that everyone has to kind of overextend or play different positions or make things work so I think that’s a huge part of it man and injuries are tough because I don’t want to look at any one single injury and be like this is your fault because you weren’t in good enough shape like I don’t freak things happen but Murray has had lower leg injuries or just general soreness for really the vast majority of the time that I can remember that they’ve that I’ve covering him and I do think we have talked at times about him needing to come into the season in better shape I want to make a distinction between that and blaming him for all of his significant injuries that are not necessarily his fault but I do think maybe that’s something to examine as well is could he be maybe better prepared for how long the season is um it’s it’s all connected man all all the injuries are always connected regardless of who it is and what we told ourselves the whole season and I think what the Nuggets told themselves too was okay we can overcome a Jamal Murray turned ankle you know we can overcome this absence because we know in the playoffs he’s going to be Jamal Murray we know in the playoffs he’s going to show up he’s going to be this huge playoff Riser and the joic Murray 2oman game is going to take us home we know that’s going to happen because it’s happened in playoffs before but it didn’t happen this year and now you look back at all the regular season stuff and say we can’t have that see for me like Jamal Mur played a good game in game seven like he had a good half he scored 35 points that should be enough the second half was not good but that should be enough like we get nothing else like Mike scor six points whatever SC like this was kind of but that to me that’s like you look at the season you’re like wow it was a little bit this was disappointing from Jamal Murray it was another m P campaign from nikic U so you you know it’s hard you want more from Jamal but like in the biggest moment he did show up he just got tired like he actually but he gave them what should have been enough to get over the hump and then there were just so many other guys that just didn’t do anything like no like Aaron Gordon did nothing in that game like Michael Porter Jr did nothing in that game but you know what Aaron Gordon didn’t get this year 23 days off 23 games off well but I mean like you don’t think fatigue was a factor for Aaron Gordon in this season I’m sure that it was a fatigue was a factor for everybody like Anthony Edwards played FEA like he like that he played all the entire offseason he played just as much as any of the Nuggets like I don’t know that you can look at Elite level athletes and be like well they just they were you know they should have been in more in shape it’s just it was so on Jamal and joic to rescue the rest of the Nuggets because they weren’t getting anything from them that it you at the end of the day you’re like man why couldn’t they have done more and it’s like you can’t ask two guys to do more than they did you really can’t Jamal was great in game seven I’m with was more about the collective performance in they win game seven and then they probably win the title you know it’s it’s yeah and it’s just yeah but there’s a you know there’s a trust factor to all of this like if you’re if you’re a teammate there I think there is an accumulation of like okay this guy hits the game winners he does this or that but we carry like I said I put it as carrying the bags everyone has to carry the grunt carry a single bag last night like Jamal scored 35 points well I do think we could make a distinction between the story of the season the story of game seven cuz the story of game seven I strongly agree with you Eric like huge I don’t know if you guys know I I I’m on the more optimistic side when it comes with mpj he was just not good enough in game seven so but I know that but we’ll get to him we’ll get to him in a second I know I know but I’m I’m just kind of acknowledging that maybe you guys are having two different conversations here’s what I will say about Jamal because this is the big the number one takea away from me for me personally my trust in Jamal is now shattered because he has always been that guy when it matters he’s always been great and I you suffer through the fact that he’s nowhere close to an All-Star in the regular season you suffer through it because he is so integral to what they do but now you ask me like is you get to the playoffs if Murray has the same season which by the way he has the same season every year almost exactly the same points rebounds like it’s it’s almost identical if he has the same year next year and you go into a playoffs I will have a hard time picking the Nugget cuz it’ll be like what’s Jamal going to be if he tells me for 82 games he has a 21 Point per game score on that efficiency I’ll think they’re going to get that from him whereas in years past including this year I’d walk into it going yeah but he’s not that he’s something more I don’t know to me it’s just like I think it’s it’s just there’s a lot of issues that we’ve dealt with over the course of the season of you know wanting Murray to be more present waiting for him to come back you know where is this guy he’s not scoring enough in the playoffs um but again like at the most critical Junction he did show up and you can’t say that for anyone else outside of he and yic and to me like that is the bigger issue is that there’s just a bunch of guys that were just like going along like all right Jamal uh yic like you got us right like you got us like like hit a three Michael J again those things are also true those are things are but I’m just to belabor this point I think the heat look at Jamal Murray the Miami Heat and are like yeah that guy is a a stud I think the Lakers look at him and think that I don’t think the Timberwolves do in fact they were asked about it and they were offended by the fact that Jamal Murray is considered a guy that might beat them in a series that’s how lowly they look at him and that’s my point is Jamal to me in the playoffs gone into every series and they’re drunk right now with like with confidence Anthony Edward scored 16 points and looked like garbage almost that entire game but I thought Anthony Edwards was good very good in that game person he was good he got good defensively but they look at him it was 98 to 90 well I understand but like the way that he’s looked he’s not looked at as a defensive lockdown player he’s looked at the next Mich as the next Michael Jordan which obviously is a great defensive player but I’m saying like the way that now we’re talking about like oh man this is ants League it’s like bro it that wasn’t they didn’t win because of ant they W because of cat which is a wild thing to say and it’s a hurtful thing to say I also just look I just think these are two different conversations the story of the season the story of game seven I think they can blend together but ultimately I just think that’s why you guys have such different conclusions is cuz you’re kind of answering different questions also also yic has played more minutes than anybody over the last 5 years that’s cool cuz he is in his 20s for now but that’s over now like the nuggets have to find ways to win without yic in the regular season going forward they can count on him to carry them to to a certain degree but if you count on him to carry to the degree that he has these last two really three years he’s going to you’re not winning another title because you need him to be able to have something left in the tank and you’re need of this or that and the only way you get that is by splitting that burden with a player of Jamal’s caliber and my only point is my faith in him is less now than what it was going into this playoffs and into this season as a whole and to me it’s the biggest takeaway um regular season management goes hand inand with this because again I think Michael Malone has had a huge luxury that he can ride Nia because he’s such a Workhorse he never misses games and he to this point has been young but I do think we can start to look at yol’s long ity now and say we want him to play six seven more years for Denver to do that you’re going to have to be able to not ask him to do the craziest carrying of this team for large stretches every single year and that is one on Murray but number two I think it’s a little bit on Michael Malone I think there was a little writing the starters and the the the key players way too much this year this is my number one thing on my to-do list for the Nuggets this off season they need to have a total refocus of their philosophy in the regular season they need a total realignment like everything that they’ve been doing during the regular season it’s worked but they have to rethink it man well they needed home court in case they played a game seven and that’s everything from how Michael Malone plays his lineups he’s got to start staggering more than just one starter with the bench like that [ __ ] has got to stop um and I guarantee the bench unit’s going to be better if he does that um he’s got to stop riding his starter so much during the season did you know that every nugget starter played more minutes this season than they did last year except for Jamal Murray cuz he was just hurt that’s wild man and that was with the Nuggets bench being statistically better with joic off the court this year than they were last year he’s got to just trust his bench and use his full roster even if it might lead to a couple losses it’s going to pay off in the long run you see other teams do it you see other coaches do it he just got a contract extension he’s good he won a championship he’s cemented he’s got to just loosen the reins a little bit and change how he approaches the regular season because he did wear out the Nugget starters I think this year and by the end they didn’t have a gear they didn’t have a switch to flip in the playoffs and I think that was because because of what happened during the season but which decision specifically is it like not playing Jaylen picket cuz I mean pton Watson played Christian Brown played it’s not playing Reggie Jackson 82 games yeah well again part of that is Jamal missed 20 F but I get it it’s not playing joic as many minutes as you did it’s being okay with like like the bench giving up these leads which they did right and then it’s also about changing your lineup so it’s not just Jamal Murray and four bench guys here’s a news flash like if any other team plays one starter and four bench guys together that lineup’s going to suck right like that lineup’s just going to suck um that’s just got to change and I think there’s also something to the minutes versus the role like what are you allowing players to do and I think there’s a little bit of like Reggie is your bench scoring you know Payton and Christian you guys are stand in the corner and shoot threes and it’s like okay well what are we developing here and then pton was not even an option in this series because none of that stuff was explored or developed right I get it that’s a good idea um what do you think I mean you’ve you’ve kind of seen it differently so far um I don’t know I mean to me it’s like the the margin of success and failure is so thin on this it’s like like I don’t I don’t think that the timber will I mean I have to look at the the minutes and everything but I I can’t imagine other teams rode their players less like didn’t Denver starters everybody did by a lot by meaning amount if you talk about starting lineup together by a crazy margin I mean I’d have to see I don’t know I just to me like they obviously wore down in the but to me it was more of a management inside that game than it was an indictment of just the way that they play like they went you know they during the season I didn’t have the sense it was like oh my God we are just absolutely riding these guys it just was like okay cool we did talk about it a lot yeah well here’s the thing they played 960 minutes as a unit the second best was 799 which was OKC who famously had no one miss games this year they were not injured Murray missed 23 games and yet Denver still had 160 more minutes together as a fiveman lineup I mean I get it I get it and that’s in 15 fewer games I get it and you know when we’re talking about looking at this game specifically and how it wore down and they obviously ran out of gas at the end of the game it was like it sucks because they played them that entire game together so you know inside of that game like I can point to mismanagement and then you look at you’re saying okay well who do you spell them with if you don’t trust anybody because they’re not right coming off the bench I don’t know some of that is you know is that like is Malone being given players that he can rely upon like did did he not like I I didn’t necessarily feel like the the the bench was not being allowed to um mature as much as they needed during the season I mean we talked about it a little bit but it’s not like they didn’t see the floor um they’re just young they’re young young and like part of that is like drafting a very young pton Watson like what 19 or whatever when they drafted him like he needs a lot more season Christian Brown stepped up in the playoffs um yeah he did so I don’t know it’s it’s hard for me to like really condemn the way that they went about their business except for the fact that they faltered in the last game and again I just feel like the the margin was was such that they could still be standing right now they could easily still be standing I I didn’t I don’t think that there was an an absolute fatal flaw in the way they went about everything except for in game seven right the criticis and it’s still a criticism completely the basketball absolutely mismanaged game seven a million per uh and it’s a bummer I’m with you it’s really easy to unleash like all the big big scale philosophical takes and they might be right it’s just at the same time man how close were they anyway to breaking through but the thing is it’s stuff we were talking about all year and it’s what eventually bit them at the end I agree it’s just they never played a game like they played that game like there was not a game that where they played joic all but one minute until game seven yeah you know right right um real quick we got to go to break we’ll continue this conversation on the other side Denver had the number one most used fiveman lineup their starters and the number 11 most used starting lineup they starters plus Reggie for Murray just to show you how frequently they ride that those lineups more than any other team in fact the 10th most team was half the minutes that Denver was the 10th most used fiveman lineup in the entire ba let’s show you the drop off I mean does that does that is that like how many minutes did joic play as opposed to you’re saying individual players yeah I mean like to me is that speaking to the fact that they had continuity or is that speaking to the fact that they it speaks to the fact that Michael Malone plays his starters together more than any other coach yogish played the fourth most minutes behind Josh Hart Jaylen Brunson and Luca Don but other than that the Nuggets don’t have a player I don’t think in the top 15 I was doing playoffs there I was it’s the fact that they just played they starters together but I mean is isn’t that good like it means your bench sucks well it does mean your bench sucks but is that it means is that Malone’s fault well I mean I’m I’m saying like if you just mix it up a little bit I feel like there’d be a little drop off from the starters but a huge pickup from the bench and and in the playoffs you’re going to have to play those lineups is I think the point like last night the reason you don’t go to your bench is you don’t trust them and if you were to throw out some of those guys it would have been the first time you would have had that configuration on the court outside of Justin holiday and Reggie Reggie Jackson let’s go to break though we’ll continue this because what we’re really getting at is a philosophical question here between what to me is a top three we just did two of the biggest stories of top three and that is is there an alignment within the de nuggets organization right now probably not right now it’s a good question not at this moment guys we’re in the Toyota Lounge Toyota the official vehicle of dmvr trucks have always been part of open a cold one check out the beer locator at bre brew.com to find a brew near you um all right we have we are back segment three here let’s get to this topic here which I think is another defining one of the season I don’t think that Malone ever bought into the front office’s plan Calvin Booth was very clear in his plan they’re going to and and honestly you could say Calvin Booth was also realistic about how that plan might go when he said we might lose next year but at the expense of opening up a window for years to come but one of the things that worries me about this year is I don’t know how much closer pton Watson is I he’s probably not as close to what I hoped he would be you know at the start of this season Jaylen picket is a guy that might just not be on the team next year I don’t even know what they’re going to do because he never played including playing Colin Gillespie over him so now you go into next season thinking is he an asset he’s a total mystery box at this moment in fact maybe even less than a mystery box because when you don’t play for an entire year he’s just the Box yeah you like lose value you know like you don’t you’re not sitting on the shelf and and the appreciation sets in inflation sets in so I so to me Calvin Boo’s plan was very obvious wings with a lot of length going to try to give joic a bunch of those types of weapons but you’re going to have to develop them try to get those guys in the pipeline Julian STW who played some this year then got hurt and even Zeke Naji who got you know some money to try to be given the Rope clearly zero trust from Michael Malone and less than trust he didn’t seem interested in that plan seemed like a plan that he immediately rejected and said we’re not doing that this year yeah um there’s not a ton of alignment there and I think you can just look at the jayen picket situation specifically with this I’ve said this on the show many times I said it going back to last summer when you talked with people with the Nuggets like last off seon heading into the year and you ask them about backup point guard they would go yeah jayen pcket might be our backup point guard you know by the end of the season halfway through the season Midway through the year maybe probably going to be jayen picket at back of point guard the f that he just never played I think he played two games in the rotation in November or December and the fact that Colin glesby played over him like that pretty jarring that that’s pretty jarring and I think it shows a lack of alignment again this is a third string point guard rookie on a championship contending team right but it’s just an example to show that I don’t think there’s a ton of alignment there and that’s a big question for the summer you know can they get more on the same page Michael Malone and Calvin Booth um I don’t know if they will I i’ actually guess that they wouldn’t um but it’s going to be interesting yeah a lot of this is like you don’t necessarily make changes to what you do until it proves to be false and Michael Malone just never he just doesn’t play rookies that’s not says nothing about jayen picket it says nothing about Hunter Tyson or any of these guys it’s just like he is a coach that relies on the contributions of veterans more so than rookies like it’s just what he does but you know when you come up and you flame out like this then you know Michael Malone has shown that in the past who knows what what we see get moving forward but he’s shown to be a guy that that learns from his mistakes um I don’t know what that means as far as alignment with uh Calvin Booth maybe those are players he just straight up does not like uh maybe he felt just like you know they should be on the same timeline as any other rookie um hard to say right now it feels really bad it’s like looking for any kind of answer um and more than moreover I mean especially with that game seven the way that that shook out with the 20-point lead that you couldn’t hold and it comes down to your main horses getting so tired that they couldn’t hold on to the lead and you’re looking for any other answer it’s like [ __ ] man I wish we would I wish we would have gotten to a point where but he didn’t trust Reggie like I don’t know that he would have trusted anybody in that moment you know true yeah and look I mean I think Malone threw some carefully planted lines throughout the season in postgame pressors we did hear a lot about how difficult it was to be young and contend at the same time we I think maybe saw how he felt about some of those philosophies justtin how he his rotation played out as when just just explained and I even think last night uh he kind of alluded to what a grind the season was potential interpretation there because Malone never really wanted to go with that plan was a thought that cross my mind I’m not going to speak for Michael Malone that’s my interpretation on a podcast but I I yeah I thought that was to be honest I thought it was blatant all season and until really last year I think there was a decent amount of organization alignment from ownership to front office to coaching and it was one of the more impressive things about Denver that was happening beneath the surface of how good joic was and this stuff can be navigated and overcome but I do see and send disconnect for the first time I think on that scale yeah and and it might come to a head next year because you need proper alignment to bounce back and here’s the thing about Cal’s Vision whether you agree with it or not and we’ll probably have a lot of time to debate this in this offseason this next month but here’s Cal’s philosophy as he St on the record the new collective bargaining agreement there’s a reason that there is a different Champion every year and there’s a reason that these dynasties break up very very quickly and that is the NBA doesn’t want you to be able to hold on to teams because Michael Porter is on a Max contract that compounds with Denver where they’re going to have their top five guys making a ton of money and you’re just going to have to have minimums everywhere else on the contract now you either get veteran minimums which usually require a free agent wanting to go there Allah Justin holiday but even Justin holiday like if you’re expecting better than Justin holiday I I just don’t know that Denver is going to get better than that I think Denver is always going to get Justin holiday and ish Smith and Jeff Green and and those types of guys so the other other way to get that is if you hit on these young guys and that’s why he thought going into this year pton Watson Julian straw those guys might actually cost you the title this year but if you push through that wall then next year you’ll be set up to okay thank God because we needed minimum contracts and now we have second and third year guys that can get you there but unfortunately that’s what I’m saying about this year in the alignment is unfortunately what’s the opposite of have your cake and eat it too we didn’t get cake and we didn’t get to eat it because now you lose you lose and I don’t feel like you’re closer as close as you needed to be to be confident in next year’s plan yeah I kind of think Bruce Brown was the best and worst thing to happen to nuggets fans because Bruce Brown’s signing at that number was a total outlier you got to find another one it’s a miracle like that was such a lucky set of circumstances that led Bruce Brown to Denver and of course you know he wound up making 20 times that or 10 times that on his next contract but yeah like just in holiday is the more apt example of minimum contract guys that the Nuggets could Target so you’re right your choices in this CBA environment are to do that to fill out your roster or have an influx of guys that you draft and develop and have in your culture and system and keep funneling that into your rotation yeah those are the two choices he’s chosen the latter every coach will take the former by the way right every single coach right but I think this is like the part of what makes Calvin boot’s plan so potentially like lucrative down the road it is the tougher path yeah um yeah but maybe the more rewarding one but that’s why next year and the funny thing about it is Michael Malone was fired for something that was out of his control DeMarcus Cousins got mentis menitis and I I’m this is Matt Moore’s take which I actually agree with Michael balone Learned in that moment that they’ll tell you don’t worry of course they’ll tell you follow this plan but if it doesn’t work they’ll fire you for their plan not working and I think that honestly has stuck with him to where he’s so paranoid about it they gave him an extension last off season they gave him an extension that’s the ultimate don’t worry about this year but even then it was not enough and now you’re going into next year where you can be let go like I mean I’m not saying we’re we on Malone head watch here but if he did if if next year does go south it’s very realistic that they would move on from Michael Malone so now next year you’re saying okay with the less security now you need to lean in even more to this really tough plan to buy into yeah and I don’t know if it was Panic or maybe principal he’s such a princi dude man he’s so he’s so stubborn and I think in some ways in certain circumstances that can work out quite well for a coach especially in a league where like a lot of stuff can be out of your control and things can be reactive people are reactive uh but ultimately I I think this disconnect reared its head in this series when pton Watson was a non-factor and the starters looked tired the craziest thing though and I’m with tline on this like I I just don’t think they punted this year I think they blew a lead in game seven they were really close yeah nobody ever said they punted no no no I I I uh just because of the way like Calvin Booth was prepared for maybe this year to not people take that quote as him saying yeah we knew we weren’t going to win this year that’s is not what it was and that’s what I wanted we have maybe a slightly less chance to win and honest to God dude two of the three best teams in the world just played in that series won seven games they blew a big lead where whereas the alternative would be is if you traded away the pick last year you trade away PW and you end up getting a player who’s slightly better than Justin holiday and now you have seven guys and does that get you over the hump honestly probably the mark were so thin but then you’re out of the assets and next and then the ride’s over and that was his fear was hey we could go all in but who knows if it works and if it doesn’t work it’s over for forever well I was just going to say I mean you can look to that quote that he said of like he being Calvin Booth of like the way he saw this going like we’re not punting on it but there’s a good chance that this we could cost ourselves a championship this year for you know a future glory and say that there is alignment there like they there is a lot of time for all these guys to develop you know it’s it’s it’s unnatural to rely that heavily on a rookie class its first year in the NBA to be the thing that carries you over the top like it kind of was like okay like we’ve got these players we know they’re not going to be developed but we’ve got our core and our horses that we feel like is still enough to get us there and they were they [ __ ] were they were up by 20 points man I saw it with my own eyes like um so like the plan is still like nothing’s [ __ ] here dude you know like they’ve got they’ve got the plan place that they really have stated publicly like they’re looking towards next year for the for the jayen pickets for the julan St Hunter Tyson all these guys to start to emerge and that’s when you start to look to a rookies as there’s second year in the NBA guys to make the leap guys to like really take that next step pton Watson took that next step but obviously and they did play this year juliia Str and pton Watson played this year was getting plays draun up for him before he went down so so there was at least a little bit of of run there from the Nuggets all right let’s take our last break though on the other side we’re going to finish with a just want to be angry I know for real like I’m I’m mad at the nuggets and somehow I’m mad at Brendon I just want to be a sign blame to everybody this week I know are you are you rooting for the Timberwolves anybody on the I don’t I don’t care I actually don’t care wolves every time my team is out of any competition I root for every [ __ ] team to lose I respect that energy dude I want the Timberwolves to crash burn cry I don’t care dude I will say Anthony Edwards yoke going over him and trying to tell him like hey B you got to active short Jaden McDaniel trying to do the dunk that stuff was a little low rent you and I’m sure what anth Edward told was if you want us to stop then you got to beat us also a fair thing but I will say I’m glad that Yoke’s not that guy I’m glad he’s I’m glad you know that to me is a bit of a bad look also a bad look we didn’t even talk about this Michael Malone metaphorically threw a heating pad on the floor during his postgame press confence thre someone’s nose he actually threw it right at Port Bennett uh durando great reporter for The Denver Post beat reporter doing his job and Michael Malone kind of snapping at him was it a dumb question asking about a 20o loss you know what it is dumb to blow a 20-point lead that’s what’s dumb it was the story of the game the story of the game and he snapped at him in a way that to me I was like bro that’s the weakest Michael Malone has ever looked other than the time he yelled at Cassidy hub for calling him Michael Mike not Michael but it was the same energy he’s feeling he’s in his feels yeah and it’s like oh now you’re looking weak again not the worst thing but I just did want to call it out that Malone in that moment looked weak I would have done the same thing a million bro the Nuggets went out like losers and two losses in this Timber sus that was embarrassing basketball gods were watching man and I thought you know this team was above stuff like that they were but Jamal Murray doing that stuff in game two throwing that heating pad on the court loser energy Malone after the series like come on man and that’s criticism of mental toughness again that’s not I think it’s always interpreted as reporters looking out for each other being sensitive like I Bennett can handle himself he’s an adult he probably doesn’t get he probably doesn’t care but that’s a criticism of mental toughness like the Murray criticisms were so stuff to learn from for Malone here as well like everyone else yeah and more than anything like I said I just we’re we’re us what do you always say those teams think they’re us we’re us part of that is the basketball gods are always watching I feel like Rudy goar hit a 20 foot turnaround Jumper in the clutch of this game and I was like oh that was the basketball we need to spend this summer repenting to the basketball Gods yeah like we need to win their trust back yeah I don’t know what we have to do but we have to do something I can’t believe we’re not allowed to feel any good feelings like that’s a that’s a sin we have to take the trophy off the set yeah dude I we don’t deserve it anymore all gold has been removed the road to Gold came to nugget change the profile picture back change back I’m telling you you want to know where this started you want to know where the [ __ ] this started you’re right you a tone of message being sent all right let’s get into our super chats Super Chat from Goose 5280 is that the goose that just gave birth to some goslings behind my y I think it is goslings is that what they’re called yes so Ryan’s last name is go go yes dude Jay I don’t know anything dude in true fashion I became a DI hard today M truly does love company as they say # delay on Parade we have to have onay delay on Parade I like that else do we have the boy’s dad nuggets sputtered through the playoffs like a car running out of gas after 102 game 2223 campaign in the League’s shortest offseason starting five played 20.6% more regular season minutes that’s uh I did check your math on that though I think your kcp numbers might have been off but nonetheless it is uh a deal um would you say we straight off parade come on guys I think we stopped like walking on the parade so all right I think it’s a technically a delay okay yeah the parade is still up and running it’s just we’re not on it man there was a blockade on Parade wasn’t blockade on Parade damn it God damn it guys ad by the way looking at a at a rhyming list right now all right cool Goose 5280 got to be three years watching chiming in wanted to say thanks for the content you guys home as a Denver fan living in Seattle with no bball we love you brother I was so dismay on Parade God damn it the boy dad had to contribute 25% more points due to the weaker bench does this collapse really surprise no but I refused to accept that it was feudal or inevitable yeah dude it was totally not inevit whatever but the best starting five in the league was just exhausted hope an extra month’s rest this summer helps I was betrayed on Parade oh good stay how many minutes do you think Christian Brown’s going to play as the starting shooting guard next year 40 a game yes yes Michael Mak you wonder if the Nuggets all this time were just God damn it masquerade on Parade we’re getting we’re getting fileted on Parade over here oh Michael Lamb this year’s this was mpj’s version of the 2019 game seven loss this is the first true letdown that he himself has faced in the pros no one is harder on mpj than himself he will be back stronger dude I saw this on the timeline I forget who tweeted it I’m sorry mpj needs to have an Aaron Gordon like summer like AG had after the Warrior series promise I promise I also I promise to be harder on mpj than he is on himself I mean look it’s okay to be hard on mpj dude to your point you need to blame him for the whole I think I just did earlier in the in the when you guys were on Jamal npj I was say to Eric Point npj blamed himself after the game all right timer tier I apologize if I got that wrong yic needs to take way more mid’s and threes in the regular season next year R the playoffs more teams will copy bigs and take away the Pate Tony if yoke works on his three-pointer it’s over but here’s the thing like every team is going to here’s what I I swear to God think he works on his three-pointer too I he does joic improves his three-point per this is like when you’re like oh dandre Jordan needs to shoot more free throws um he just isn’t good at him uh you don’t think but here here’s what I believe is going to happen is that I I believe the Bost and Celtics are going to play an outside game and punish the Minnesota timber rules for having two bigs and so like if every team just gears up to beat yic it’s kind of how it is yeah you you can’t gear up to beat every team man the Celtics win and then we get a re reverse back to five out yes yes and then Y and then yic reign supreme again oh it’s not worth it for me okay is at times like these it’s good to remember Improvement isn’t linear it’s so true man I’m sure we’ll learn from this and we will come back better this was a straight line down Jared from Fuko I’m trying to build a a garden box with a scrap wood and I have no idea what I’m doing I’m officially in I’m not sure what to do with my hands territory yeah yeah these are the problems we run into during the offseason we start doing [ __ ] like that yeah get a bunch of buy a bunch of nails Man start nailing [ __ ] we all try to find Hobbies turns out boring and not talented people no Tamir T here again why did AG stop bringing the ball up the court in game six and seven dude thank you for bringing this up why was wor getting his pocket picked I thought we learned that lesson I’m angry all over again T goes on to say those were so rough to watch man why were they doing that the one where a gets it clean goes shut up Adam shut the [ __ ] up great Point kept soft switching guards on Cat and gobear which put them in the bonus so quick bad game plan in my opinion they did that was the other thing is they just I’m telling you cat cat did was awesome in this game but dare cat to post up Denver’s guards and it was a bad plan they also foued gobe like nine times in 30 seconds Jack Neeman on X I said on Twitter I said Malone and Booth have different mindsets it hurts them bogey from Atlanta for Zeke and cap filler would be huge love mpj and have faith this is the time of year where we’re all try to trade our garbage for other teams we’re like hey Jack I don’t think that’s a bad idea I I mean I love it too I would take it what if we traded Zeke and a second round draft pick 10 years from now is rebuilding they got the first pick donov wants out of there is Zach Ed available all right we talk Fernando para last year I thought they balanced youth with brown and Watson with having playable vets for the season is Jeff and DJ why does it have to be all youth or vets and not a mix you don’t need three rookies it was a mix this year it was a mixx this year but they’re also there the because of the way that they’re structuring themselves long term rainy Rainey Salman jents it’s been devastating and disappointing good to have some shoulders to to lean on will you guys been coming to Abu Dhabi for October preseason games happy to show you around you want to sponsor us now I want to we are we have actually you know flirted with it can we on the table we’ve inquired we need a big time sponsor for that can we get a falconry a falconry uh sponsor maybe iaka TV anything left in the all right Cameron boy they sacrificed themselves for for our trip to maybe worth it hard to I’m biased Cameron Boyd blaming Devonte Graham and Sandro mama oh that son of a m Mamu K I can’t say it I’m really sorry I do remember him I just can’t say it and I apologize M Kash M Mamu Kash I will learn it because I learned this lesson xenophobia like just learn the names you know would have the one seed one it is really hard off the bat I don’t have it a little even like Gilbert Arena slide on that one I’m saying if I covered him I would all right you guys The Denver Nuggets title defense season ended in heartbreak at the hands of their division rival. Nikola Jokic ran out of gas, Jamal Murray wore down against Anthony Edwards and the Wolves’ perimeter defense, and Michael Porter Jr. couldn’t hit a shot. So what are the takeaways from this season? The DNVR Nuggets podcast team answers that question and provides several perspectives on how we should remember the year.

  1. … and stop saying "basketball Gods…" if you dont believe that arrogance is not impacting the game outcome… of all – players, coaches, media, fans…

  2. Mike Malone not playing rookies makes sense. Unless you jump out the box like Braun and make a name for yourself, stay in the gym.

  3. what is Adam talking about…what's the meaning of minutes played together, isn't fatigue supposed to be based on minutes played total? Total minutes for starters, DEN played about 35 more per player, that means one more game…non sense take, making up stuff at this point

  4. The beginning of the end was when Jokic went on Porters podcast–way to comfortable—-+ Malone ran the starting 5 into the ground all season + Booths grand plan now looks hubris infantile+ Murray was so disrespecful of other nba players he thought he could play himself into shape during the regular season

  5. something something joke about how they ran out of energy at the end when it’s the mile high city that makes other people suffer.

the defence was just too much. when the wolves were allowed to play hard post season defence the nuggets were getting frustrated and couldn’t play their game. wolves don’t have a flamethrower offence they beat you by defence. they were cold in the first half, Ant was struggling but KAT held it down and it was the perfect storm heading into the locker room. nuggets over confidence and wolves getting to talk about what wasn’t working. once wolves starting hitting shots and cutting the lead, rest of team gave Denver nothing and Wolves smelt blood.

i’m canadian and love all our guys, but lost a lot of respect for Jamal this series. funny that his old talking point was “he meditates and his dad made him do pushups in the snow” but the guy has no mental toughness. put some good frustrating defenders on him and he’ll freak out and crumble 5/7 times.

  6. There is no shame in losing in a 7 game series to a team with two all stars, DPOY and 6th man of the year. It is a great team, let alone that it was designed to defeat the Nuggets. The wolves wanted it more and in the end, they were better. If they continue to play the same way, they will win it all.

  7. They acted like they couldn't lose at the beginning of the second half. I think they played cocky and exactly, didn't have the edge. Hopefully the silver lining out of this is getting embarrassed like that will add another layer to the team that they can use next time they are in a situation like that. Hopefully it will propel the team to greater heights. Been up, now down. Bunch of salty ass old vets next year! Project dynasty is still in effect. Murray's health is the weak link. I don't wanna get rid of him but we need another solid guard if we're gonna get any kind of real milage out of him. If we can draft his future replacement somehow, do it 100%

  8. D-Line, come on about Murray. Adam and Harrison is 100% right. You can't excuse Murray's decent performance in ONE GAME and ONE HALF for the atrocious playoffs he had. The reason why the team was taxed and tired was likely b/c of Murray's 23 games off and how bad his shooting was throughout the whole playoffs. And D-Line, Anthony Edwards didn't score well in Game 7, but Edwards controlled his game and controlled his impact in Game 7 better (defense wise, passing the ball, ball handling, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, only 1 TOV, etc.) than Murray did in nearly all of Murray's playoff games this year.

  9. Jokic is very loyal to Denver but one thing that can push him away is these expectations from Denver media and organization that he should carry a sub par team that relies on average rookies to the title. All Denver opponents in the West have brought in multiple All-Stars or multiple top draft picks (OKC) to compete with Denver. Let's be real, KCP is not a Top 50 NBA player, Murray is inconsistent and Gordon and MPJ aren't All-Star caliber, Christian Braun and Payton Watson are below average draft picks, single digit contributors at best. Jokic is carrying too much load and this could push him away and Denver would go back to being irrelevant as they were before him.

  10. Big problem with Denver is that all thinks that Nuggete was so close to win title. Guys even if you pass Minnesota, Nugets would lose against Dalas or Boston.
Guys you have Jokic and no one else. Only 1 guy that needs to win 82 regular and 16 playoff games and Denver still do not get it that do not work. You are wasting Jok prime, and you do not have best starting 5 are you crazy. Minnesota won 1 game by 45, and few others 20 plus. On game 7 you lose 20 points lead, WHAT BEST 5 ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!! You need 3 more guys that will play offence, and defence, trade Murray and MPJ and make real team…. Look on other teams they are geting a lot from role players. Denver needs major rebuild…..

  11. Nuggets had multiple blowouts this season, OKC and Wolves blew them out in the regular season also. This didn't happen last season. West is loaded. Nuggets are not deep enough. This is the key issue. Wolves have several 25-26 year old solid players coming from the bench.

  12. I just hope we get a wake up call. Dont waste these jokic years….

Im not a genius in basketball finance wise.

But wth Denver gotta do to get back to championship form?

  13. Sooo. If we win another title next season. We are not repeating? Because of the mentality of Denver? We always gotta be the hunter? Lol…. Ugh

  14. “Adorable” nuggets fans y’all already praying on ants downfall and he’s only 22. better get comfortable on your knees 👋

  15. Nuggets also need to understand, the season starts game 1 of the regular season. Not after the all-star game. How can we expect Murray to be that guy in the playoffs when he misses so much games in the regular season. Building good habits is so important during the regular season coming into the playoffs. Look at how we went into this year’s playoff; losing a 20pnt lead to a team like the Spurs, losing us the #1 spot in the west, that really transitioned into the playoffs this year. This playoff we only relied on Jokic’s greatness to get us trough games.

  16. Coach changed his roatation in the game 7 and didn't adjust even with 20 point lead. Starters showed exhaustion but he didn't bring any energy off of the bench.

  17. Some teams go back to back: the teams that go back to back are fucking stacked. There's not one team that went back to back that didn't have multiple all stars or all NBA talent. Until Jamal decides he wants to bring it consistently throughout the regular season, we can just hope they win 2 more over the next 7 years. Also fuck all the Tim Connelly love, he's the one that handcuffed the team by giving MPJ a max contract
